This week, a permit to remove an attraction has been filed, a big timeline change is coming to an area of Disneyland, more updates to the Disneyland app, some rare discounted merchandise at the resort, we finish our discussion with Kevin Rafferty, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: A popular attraction in Disney California Adventure is moving towards extinction. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue! has had a permit filed with the city of Anaheim for demolition. In addition to the attraction, the Hollywood Lounge beverage stand is also included in the demolition permit. The timeline to start demolition is not until at least late 2027. - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/04/19/confirmed-this-disney-ride-will-permanently-close-in-2027/ We are just about a week away from the timeline expanding at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. On April 29th, Batuu will welcome original trilogy characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solor, and Leia Organa. This has been a long time request from guests who want to interact with characters from across the trilogy in the Star Wars themed land. There is some criticism that the characters are not close enough to their appearance in the films, but we will have to wait and see. In addition, the area will have the classic music of John Williams playing from the movie score. - https://www.micechat.com/434704-disneyland-update-star-wars-land-glow-up-app-shake-up-toy-story-5-build-up/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/photos-dok-ondar-changes-april-2026/ In the latest update to the Disneyland app, there have been some good quality of life improvements. Under My Visit, the Tip Board has been renamed to Wait Times & Showtimes, and My Day has been renamed My Plans. These updated names better reflect what can be found in each section. MyDisney Wallet has been added to the account settings where you can add your credit or debit card for payments. There still is no option to add a gift card. - https://www.micechat.com/434704-disneyland-update-star-wars-land-glow-up-app-shake-up-toy-story-5-build-up/ With the Disneyland 70th celebration coming to a close this summer, there are some good discounts to be had. Many 70th anniversary items are marked down up to 50%, including some Loungefly bags. In addition, there are some new Duffy and Friends items that have arrived at the resort from Aulani. Pins, a button up shirt, and more are available. - https://www.micechat.com/434704-disneyland-update-star-wars-land-glow-up-app-shake-up-toy-story-5-build-up/ A classic attraction is retuning to the Disneyland Resort. The Skyway is coming back! Ok, only as a straw topper, but still! Starting April 22, guests can add this to their collections. It features the classic rectangular, four person gondola from 1965. - https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-skyway-straw-clip/ SnackChat: New Menu Items - https://www.instagram.com/p/DXV432qlrJ3/?igsh=MWw5aDRwNHFybzZx Discussion Topic: Imagineer Kevin Rafferty Magic Journey: My Fantastical Walt Disney Imagineering Career - https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Journey-Fantastical-Disney-Imagineering/dp/1368020488 Marty Note pdf.pdf Marty's Marty Note pdf.pdf Marty's Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. News: On March 22, a beloved character from down under will debut a new show at Disneyland. “Bluey's Best Day Ever!” at the Fantasyland Theatre will celebrate the heart and humor of Bluey. The theater will be transformed into Bluey's school where Bluey and Bingo will appear on stage at set times throughout the day, with two unique shows. A group of comedic performers and musicians will join them to bring to life popular board games, music, and dances. Chattermax, Unicorse, and a troupe of Grannies will also make appearances. There will also be a life-sized Gnome Village and Fairy Garden with interactive areas. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/bluey-at-disneyland-resort/ Magic Key Holders will have a new way to enjoy the resort with the Magic Key Road Trip pit stop scavenger hunt to celebrate Disney California Adventure's 25th anniversary. Key holders will pick up a special map at Kingswell Camera Shop on Buena Vista Street and use it to complete the hunt. After the hunt is completed, collect a prize later in April. Check the Magic Key Portal in the Disneyland App for all the details. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/california-adventure-25-scavenger-hunt/ Continuing this Road Trip theme, Magic Key holders will also want to keep an eye out in their mailboxes for a complimentary gift coming soon. An exclusive set of car air fresheners inspired by attractions and experiences from Disney California Adventure! Each mailer will include three themed air fresheners, with a citrus smell for Grizzly Peak and Soarin', new car smell for Cars Land and Radiator Springs Racers, and Sakura for San Fransokyo Square. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/magic-key-road-trip-2026-air-fresheners/ Ever since Josh Gad was made a Disney Legend and he shared not getting to be a cast member for the Jungle Cruise, it seems like Disney has been trying to make up for this. So far, he has been a Jungle Cruise Skipper, a Disneyland Railroad Conductor, a Haunted Mansion cast member, and more. This time, he is taking guests on a journey through Storybook Land Canal Boats. This time, he doesn't know the script and snuck onto the boat to entertain guests. Check out the link in our show notes to watch all the chaos. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/gad-in-storybook-land/ The Disneyland Resort just held an event to celebrate cast members with service of 10 years or more. Jan Fleener and Richard Ruiz were in attendance, celebrating 55 years of service at the resort! The two were celebrated by being driven down the Performance Corridor in the Five and Dime classic car. Cast members are invited to these events starting at their 10th anniversary, then every 5 years of service after. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-cast-service-celebration-2025/ Actress Jennifer Garner has a baby food brand called Once Upon a Farm that is now available for purchase at Disney California Adventure. Guests can pick some up at Fillmore's Taste-In in Cars Land. The food features cold-pressed pouches and plant-rich meals for babies, toddlers, and big kids. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/once-upon-a-farm-at-disney-california-adventure/ Two unfortunate events occurred at the Disneyland Resort this week. The first was a hazmat situation backstage near Star Tours that resulted in cast members being transported to the hospital out of caution. Nobody was seriously injured and it was limited to backstage. Anaheim Police were summoned to the resort in a Swatting Incident that claimed a mass shooting event at the resort. A swatting is where someone calls in a serious call to 911 that turns out to be a prank, even though police, and sometimes SWAT teams are sent. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-swatting/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-hazmat-incident-star-tours-backstage/ SnackChat: Bluey-themed bites – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-bluey-food-beverage-at-disneyland-resort/ Discussion Topic: History of Fireworks – https://www.micechat.com/335190-disneyland-fireworks-history-all-shows/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On Episode 131 of The Dreaming of Disney, we're taking you inside the D23 25th Anniversary panel for Disney California Adventure and breaking down everything we learned .From the 1995 Aspen retreat where Michael Eisner and Imagineers dreamed up a second gate… to the budget constraints that shaped the original park… to the mind-blowing logistics of filming Soarin' Over California… we're diving deep into how DCA was born. Then we shift into the reimagining era. How Buena Vista Street transformed the entrance. How Pixar Pier found its identity. The emotional, controversial switch from Tower of Terror to Guardians of the Galaxy. The genius behind Cars Land. And how World of Color almost didn't happen until Bob Iger asked one simple question: “When can we do this?”Plus, Audreyann shares why Guardians might just be better than Tower (yes, we said it), and we reflect on how Imagineers honored the past while building the DCA we love today. If you love park history, Imagineering stories, and behind-the-scenes Disney magic, this one's for you.

This week, Jeff and Julia (from the Pal Around Podcast) go back in time to 2001 and take a stroll through the opening days of Disney's California Adventure in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Listen to our memories, anecdotes, and a few rare sound bytes as we pay homage to Anaheim's second Disney gate. As a special bonus, we take a quick trip back to the 2013 PNW Mouse Meet to revisit a classic Mousetalgia interview with Imagineer Kevin Rafferty about his work developing Cars Land for DCA. All this - and much more!
Planning a 2026 Disneyland trip without drowning in tabs? We've got you. We walk through the year's biggest dates and smarter strategies, calling out the can't-miss festivals, the ride overlays that actually change your day, and the cultural moments that add heart to the parks. If you're torn between a spring food crawl or a fall haunt, this guide helps you pick your window and build a plan that fits your style and stamina. We start with early-year standouts: Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure brings Mulan's procession, the Hurry Home pre-show before World of Color, character attire, and yes, irresistible food booths. February layers in Celebrate Soulfully with live gospel on the Downtown Disney stage and a heritage trail spanning both parks. We flag runDisney weekend as a crowd mover and give a quick reality check on what's included with a regular ticket versus extra-cost events. Anaheim Ducks Day pops in late February with limited wristband photo ops and a lively fan rally.Spring is where flavor leads. The California Adventure Food & Wine Festival (Mar 6–Apr 27) delivers chef demos, beverage seminars, tight LA studio bands, and the Sip and Savor play that makes tasting more wallet-friendly. We share a pro tip for the resort egg hunt: grab the keepsake when you pick up the map to avoid backtracking. Then come the Star Wars choices: Hyperspace Mountain returns Apr 28, while May 22 marks The Mandalorian and Grogu joining Smugglers Run and a looser Galaxy's Edge timeline. If you want thrills now or fresh canon later, your timing matters.Summer stretches the 70th celebration with park-wide decor, new character looks, and a Main Street theater exhibit featuring a surprisingly emotive Walt Disney animatronic. June 19 brings HBCU drumlines to Downtown Disney for a thunderous set you'll feel in your bones. On July 2, Soarin' Across America returns for the nation's semiquincentennial, likely feeding patriotic holiday surges. Fall ushers in Halloween Time from Aug 21–Oct 31 with Haunted Mansion Holiday, Cars Land overlays, nighttime projections, and seasonal snacks, before holidays begin Nov 18 with festive decor, parades, and fireworks. On this episode of Podcast Like It's the 2000s, Phil and Emily continue their Pixar 2000s miniseries by finally pulling into Radiator Springs to talk Cars with critic and scholar Myles McNutt.Often dismissed as “the lesser Pixar,” Cars is also one of the studio's most commercially dominant films and one of its strangest cultural phenomena. The trio digs into why this movie connected so deeply with kids, how Disney merchandising helped shape its legacy, and why Cars feels philosophically out of step with Pixar's more emotionally precise storytelling. They also explore the film's obsession with nostalgia, small-town Americana, Route 66 iconography, and the uneasy politics lurking under its warm glow.Along the way, they discuss Pixar's evolving reputation, the film's place in the studio's broader lineage, Cars Land as a theme-park response to Harry Potter, and why even if it's flawed Cars might still be essential viewing to understand Pixar's 2000s run.Ka-chow!Follow us:Guest: Myles McNutt @Memles on instagram and X and SubtackPatreon: http://patreon.com/PodcastlikeitsTwitter: http://twitter.com/podcastlikeitsInstagram: http://instagram.com/podcastlikeits Hosted on Acast. This week, a look behind the scenes on how Disneyland transforms a land for the holidays, the new Magic Key calendar released, a popular attraction is getting it's first refurbishment, guests can send letters to Santa Cars in Cars Land, we talk about a little known version of Tomorrowland that never was, and more! Howard Johnson – http://www.wyndhamhotels.com/hotels/01051?corporate_id=1000098677 News: The Disney Parks YouTube channel is at it again with a new glimpse behind the curtain to show what it takes to get Cars Land ready for the holidays. In the latest Disney Unscripted episode, they follow the crew that transforms the land from Halloween to Christmas overnight. From warehouse to park and all the work to get completed in one night before the guests show up in the morning, this video shows it all. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/cars-land-halloween-holiday-transformation/ Disney has posted the availability calendar for the new Explore Magic Key that we spoke about last episode. The new key will have extended availability in the summer, opening up a lot of days in June and July that the Enchant Key was blocked out for. There are some other dates that are blocked out on the new key, so take a look at the link in the show notes if you are interested in comparing. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/blockout-dates/ The standard refurbishment for Haunted Mansion after the holiday season has an end date. January 23rd will be the return of the classic Haunted Mansion variation. Also added to the refurbishment list for the first time is Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. It will enter refurbishment on January 20th, with no current return date. – https://www.micechat.com/428675-disneyland-news-construction-portos-rise-of-the-resistance-haunted-mansion/ Navigation around the park after nighttime spectaculars might be a little easier to see. New electronic signs have debuted that give guests directions on where to go to get to certain locations in the park. This replaces the cast members yelling directions, or the dimply lit handheld signs that were previously used. – https://www.micechat.com/428675-disneyland-news-construction-portos-rise-of-the-resistance-haunted-mansion/ A fun activity is available in Cars Land. Inside of Sarge's Surplus Hut, there is a display with a red mailbox. At this mailbox, you can write a letter to Santa Car. Mater will then take everyone's letters to Santa Car to the North Pole, along with his friend Lightning McQueen. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/12/14/confirmed-this-might-be-the-best-holiday-thing-you-can-do-in-a-disney-park/ A small version of “it's a small world” appeared on the Disneyland Instagram this week. The video showed off a model of the classic attraction in the park, in front of the full-sized attraction. The video goes on to show the creation of the miniature, which features 120 individual bushes, trees, and shrubs, and took over 200 hours to create. The miniature is on display in the small world toy shop. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-small-world-model/ As we reported last week, work has finally begun on the new Porto's location in Downtown Disney. Construction walls have gone up and encircle the ticket booths on the Disney California Adventure side of the west esplanade. This is a great sign of progress. Another area slow to redevelopment has been the old ESPN building, which now has signage up for lululemon! The old Tortilla Jo's location, which has been sitting stagnant since demo finished in the summer, is still happening, but waiting on permits with the city to continue. Construction here should hopefully resume soon. – https://www.micechat.com/428675-disneyland-news-construction-portos-rise-of-the-resistance-haunted-mansion/ SnackChat: Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/downtown-disney-district/jazz-kitchen-coastal-grill-patio/menus/ Discussion Topic: Tomorrowland Star Wars Retheme – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-star-wars-retheme-concept-art-from-doug-chiang/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. From Disney Visa mailers and annual passholder calendars to Stitch-heavy gift guides, they dig into how Disney is trying to steer your holiday shopping. • Disney's “Home for the Holidays” Disney Rewards Insider issue and the surprise AP calendar reveal a full-court press of plush, Stitch, cruises, and watch-list marketing aimed at shaping your seasonal shopping. • Stitchmas dominates both online and in-park displays, with plush, pajamas, and matching family sets claiming a massive share of holiday floor space. • Disney Parks Blog releases multiple holiday gift guides spotlighting games, books, Frozen favorites, Zootopia tie-ins, and Lorcana must-haves for fans of all stripes. • While Disney pushes big-ticket items like the $399 LEGO castle, Jim and Lauren highlight personal picks including Dick Van Dyke's new book, Disney-branded Crocs, the Tokyo Disney Mickey gnome, and the classic monorail set. • Despite limited Cars Land holiday merch in the parks, Jim notes stronger Cars Christmas selections at Kohl's, Walmart, and BoxLunch, plus his near-purchase of Target's leftover 2021 Winter Series die-casts. • A listener tip confirms the red truck Mickey popcorn bucket sells out nightly at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, creating steep eBay markups. • Looking ahead, Zootopia 2's box office success is backed by a large retail program, while Pixar's Hoppers gets a lighter rollout as Disney gears up for major Toy Story 5 merchandising. • 2025's Toy Story and Tangled anniversary lines show mixed traction, as Jim previews everything from collector dolls to Woody's Clint Eastwood-inspired poncho look and recommends watching for Twice Upon a Year markdowns. Holiday season at Disney is more than lights and garland—it's a choose-your-own-adventure of music, culture, food, and after-hours magic. We dive into what's new, what's worth your time, and how to shape a plan that fits your vibe, whether you're a parade chaser, a foodie, or a character hunter. On the West Coast, Disneyland Park sparkles with snoap, shimmering castle lights, and the long-running Christmas Fantasy Parade, while the Fantasyland Theater turns into a cozy hub of crafts, carols, and animated shorts. Over at Disney California Adventure, the Festival of the Holidays brings Epcot-style energy to Anaheim with diverse entertainment like Viva Navidad, Mirabel's Gifts of the Season, and live mariachi near Carthay Circle. Cars Land overlays add charm, and hotel dining debuts striking Christmas Carol character costumes that nail the playful, ghostly aesthetic. Pro tip: grab your Downtown Disney ornament hunt prize when you pick up the map!In Florida, Magic Kingdom's Frozen Holiday Surprise transforms the castle, Jingle Cruise leans into seasonal puns, and two big-ticket nights split the audience: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party for classic cookies-and-parade nostalgia and Disney's Jollywood Nights for live jazz, Muppet-hosted spectacle, and rare meet-and-greets. EPCOT's Festival of the Holidays offers globe-spanning storytellers, Joyful's gospel and R&B, Holiday Kitchens, the cookie stroll, and the moving Candlelight Processional. Hollywood Studios layers on vintage decor and projections, while Animal Kingdom's Tree of Life Awakenings and the Merry Menagerie puppets deliver heartwarming, low-crowd magic. Disney Springs ties it together with the Christmas Tree Stroll for a relaxed, festive wander. We share honest takes, time-saving tips, and simple strategies to pick the right party, catch the can't-miss shows, and still leave room for the serendipity that makes a trip feel special. If our guide helps you decide between Very Merry and Jollywood—or convinces you to add a storyteller set or a cookie stroll to your night—hit play, plan your route, and go make some sparkle. The Tiki Room with Elizabeth and Sarah | Let's Talk Disney World
We're so back. Thanks for listening to our first episode back with a new name, Parkside Breaks. For our first episode we introduce our guest, Emily Dostie from Glass Slipper Concierge. We follow along with her as she reviews her trip to Disneyland. We break down why the West Coast parks feel calmer, kinder, and more walkable—and how that shift turns a packed itinerary into a truly luxurious experience. Think: direct hotel-to-park access at the Grand Californian, characters actually roaming, lighter Lightning Lane pressure, and mornings that don't start in a sprint. We compare the energy of Disney California Adventure to Hollywood Studios, gush over the length and thrill of the Incredicoaster, and get honest about Guardians of the Galaxy vs Tower of Terror. Cars Land glows like a memory you get to step into, and seasonal overlays—like Haunted Mansion's Nightmare Before Christmas—show how Disneyland layers charm without adding chaos. Oogie Boogie Bash wins points for balance: sold-out party, but breezy lines, organic character moments, and candy trails that keep things moving.Pulling back, we map smarter ways to travel across the Disney universe. VIP Tours that prioritize presence, Disney Cruise Line's expanding ports for easier access beyond Florida, and curated Adventures by Disney that erase planning friction across Europe, Africa, and the American West. For the explorers at heart, National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions offer small-ship journeys to the Galápagos, Antarctica, and Iceland, guided by conservation and storytelling. Our takeaway is simple: luxury at Disney isn't just a price point—it's less stress and more time together. If you loved this, tap follow, share it with a Disney friend, and leave a quick review. The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station
836 · Inside Imagineering: Zsolt Hormay on Sculpting Stories in Disney ParksDo you ever walk through the Disney Parks and say, "How did they do that?" or better yet, "WHO helped bring these incredible places and spaces to life?"I was recently invited into the hallowed halls of Walt Disney Imagineering to discover the answers to those questions, and will have a full recap of what (and who) I saw, as well as just some of Imagineering's legacy, people, and projects as I was taken behind the scenes into where Disney magic is made. And while I was there, I has the privilege of sitting down with Zsolt Hormay, Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering and the sculptor behind some of Disney's most breathtaking environments – from the Tree of Life to Cars Land to the floating mountains of Pandora and Galaxy's Edge. I have known of him and admired his work for decades, so this was not only a special moment for me personally, but we had a wonderful, one-on-one conversation not just about his journey from Hungary to becoming a leading figure in theme park design, but how rockwork becomes storytelling, and the emotional and cultural depth behind the places and spaces he and his team create. From the Tree of Life to Fantasy Springs in Tokyo DisneySea, his work is quite literally etched into the parks we love.I also posted the entire video version on the WDW Radio YouTube channel, and will share even more about what I saw, experienced, and learned during my unforgettable visit to Imagineering on an upcoming podcast episode, so stay tuned!

News: More and more keeps being announced for the 70th Anniversary of Disneyland. A new light, sound, and projection moment will be coming to Carthay Circle and Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure. The moment will be set to the tune “Celebrate Happy,” the theme song for the anniversary. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/guide-to-the-70th-anniversary-at-disneyland-resort/ We have some new details about the Walt Disney animatronic experience coming to the Opera House in July. Various media outlets were invited to the Imagineering campus to see the life-sized concept sculpt, and to learn more about the show. Walt's voice in the show will be his own, with clips of his actual voice were painstakingly assembled from interviews. The animatronic itself is very lifelike. The posture, facial structure, and skin texture are “uncanny” according to MiceChat. – https://www.micechat.com/414430-disneyland-walt-disney-a-magical-life-revealed/ Another character from the Marvel Universe will be dropping by Avengers Campus for a limited time. Red Guardian, who first appeared in Black Widow, and is featured in the new movie Thunderbolts, will be meeting and greeting with guests. You can be sure to find him by checking the Disneyland App. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/meet-the-super-amazing-red-guardian-at-avengers-campus/ If you are going to be in Avengers Campus heading into Cars Land, or the other way around in the near future, be aware that the path between the two by Luigi's is closed. This has been done for construction of a new restroom facility to compliment the new additions to Avengers Campus currently under construction. – https://www.micechat.com/414422-disneyland-news-70th-anniversary-improvements-red-guardian-appearance-store-changes/ May the 4th was this weekend and the Disney Parks Blog shared a recipe from A Galaxy Far, Far Away. The Felucian Falafel and Hummus Garden Spread from Docking Bay 7 may take some planning – with one step taking from 12-18 hours – but is sure to be a tasty treat! – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/disney-eats-exclusive-plant-based-star-wars-day-recipe/ Later this month, a fun team will be visiting the parks. The Savannah Bananas, a baseball team similar to the Harlem Globetrotters, will be at Disneyland on May 28, 2025. Special entertainment moments, and themed food and beverages will be on hand to celebrate. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/savannah-bananas-disneyland-may-28/ On Monday, May 5, there was a Heroes Salute Cavalcade to honor the first responders of the fires back in January. The Heroes ticket also kicked off to coincide with the cavalcade. – https://www.micechat.com/414422-disneyland-news-70th-anniversary-improvements-red-guardian-appearance-store-changes/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHGVwxv9H1E A rather abrupt change has come to New Orleans Square. The Port Royal Curios and Curiosities shop, right next to the Royal Street Veranda, has been changed into a seating area for diners.
