846 · Mary Poppins: Untold Stories and the Making of a Disney ClassicMary Poppins is practically perfect, but the process behind it was emotional, unpredictable, and filled with incredible stories that most fans have never been told. There are very few "perfect" movies in this world: Jaws... The Shawshank Redemption... The Shining... Back to the Future... and from Disney, there is only one on this list - Mary Poppins. This week, I'm joined by author and Disney historian Todd James Pierce, whose new book Making Mary Poppins: The Sherman Brothers, Walt Disney, and the Creation of a Classic Film uncovers the deeper, more emotional, and often surprising history behind the film. Together, we explore the Sherman Brothers' remarkable journey, Walt Disney's creative vision, and the behind-the-scenes breakthroughs that shaped one of Disney's most beloved classics. My friend… these stories will change the way you watch Mary Poppins forever.
Do you love the music of Walt Disney World? The optimistic ambience of EPCOT's World Celebration, whimsical sounds of Magic Kingdom, organic vibes at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and cinematic orchestrations of Disney's Hollywood Studios each set the tone for the theme parks, as do the music loops found at the hotels (each one carefully curated to match the theme of the resort). In this episode, we dive into our favorite background music loops at the theme parks, resorts, and beyond. Be sure to check out ResortTV1 (thanks to Josh for joining me on this episode). Join Erik and Tage this week as they are joined by Sara and J.R. as they discuss If they would have kept Bugs Land, Avengers Campus, or changed it into something else, their favorite Disney villains, what modern rooboots they would like to see for today's technology and sensibilities, and what would make them stop going to the parks. Support the podcast by going to https://www.thehubcrawl.com/support. Question 1: Bugs Land was converted to Avengers Campus. Would you keep this the same, or change it to a different theme/land. If so, what would it be? Question 2: Who is your favorite Disney villain and why? Question 3: Is there a classic Disney property that you would like to see get a modern reboot or expansion of sorts, reimagined for today's technologies and sensibilities? Question 4: What would make you stop going to Disney Parks? Are you already there? Maybe closer than you would like, or still a far off nightmare? Bonus Question: For WDW trips – would you rather stay in a nicer room in a moderate resort or a “base level” room in a deluxe resort (assuming the price for each option would be comparable)?

What if innovation wasn't about having more resources, but about unleashing the creativity you already possess? In this episode of World's Greatest Business Thinkers, host Nick Hague sits down with Duncan Wardle, former Head of Innovation and Creativity at Disney, to share actionable strategies for fostering innovation in any organization. From sending Buzz Lightyear to space to transforming slum lighting with water bottles, Duncan reveals practical tools, playful mindsets, and techniques like "Yes And" and "What If" to break conventional thinking. Leaders at any level will gain insights to unlock creativity, drive collaboration, and generate breakthrough ideas. What You Will Learn: How to overcome the "river of thinking" that limits creativity The "Yes And" framework for building collaborative ideas instead of shutting them down with "No, Because" Encouraging playfulness and nurturing a creative thinking environment The "What If" tool for breaking rules and generating breakthrough ideas How to use the "Stargazer" framework to select the most promising innovative ideas Why intuition and empathy will become increasingly valuable skills in an AI-dominated future The power of asking "Why" five times to uncover true consumer insights and innovation opportunities How to create effective innovation processes without massive resources or budgets If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to subscribe, rate, and review it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube Podcasts. Instructions on how to do this are here. Duncan Wardle Bio: Duncan Wardle is the former Head of Innovation & Creativity at Disney, where he led groundbreaking initiatives across Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Disney Parks. Today, he serves as an independent innovation consultant, helping organisations embed creativity and strategic innovation, and regularly contributes to Fast Company and Harvard Business Review. He teaches innovation masterclasses at Notre Dame, Stanford, and Yale, delivers inspirational keynotes worldwide, and runs workshops that combine creative ideation with actionable strategies, empowering teams to generate breakthrough ideas and measurable results. Quotes: "Here's the problem - when you ask a room full of adults, 'hands up who's creative,' less than 3% of them put their hands up. I wanted to create a toolkit that had three principles: take the intimidation out of innovation and make it accessible to normal, hardworking, busy people, and make creativity tangible for people uncomfortable with ambiguity. Far more important, make it fun, give people tools they choose to use when you and I are not around." "When that door is shut, you're only working with your conscious brain. Do you know what percentage of your brain is conscious - 13% conscious, 87% subconscious. But when the door is shut, you don't have access to it." "Stop being scared. Stop chasing quarterly results - you could iterate up to 2020, but you don't get to iterate in the post-pandemic world, you innovate or you die. The challenge is this: innovation is hard, and nobody's made it tangible, easy, and fun." "Two very simple words from the world of improv that have the power to turn a small idea into a big one really quickly. You can always take a big idea and value engineer it down, but it's very hard to take a small one and turn it around the other way. Far more importantly, it transfers the power of my idea, which never goes anywhere inside an organization, to our idea and accelerates its opportunity to get done." Send us a textA Halloween drink in hand and 13 Disney nightmares on deck—this one leans delightfully spooky. We start with a DIY sangria riff worthy of Disney Springs: Pinot Noir softened by pear liqueur, Cointreau, apple juice, and those gummy eyeballs that stare back. Then we push straight into the chills and chuckles: stuck-ride purgatory with looping music, the sudden dread of being named Rebel Spy right after a Dole Whip, and the slow horror of a limited-edition popcorn bucket rolling into the crowd during fireworks, never to return. From there, we get bolder. Imagine outdoor-only queues with no shade or fans. Picture an app that nags you to book Lightning Lanes when all you want is to eat. Consider step limits that end your park day at 10,000 and turn zigzag lines into strategic minefields. And yes, we talk food—because nothing shakes a Disney loyalist like messing with snacks. How about fenced eating zones with 15-minute time caps? Or a property-wide pivot to pickle-flavored everything: churros, shakes, beignets, even a briny breakfast wrap. We also mourn the idea of beloved staples disappearing and debate what happens when the only ice cream is divisive. It's funny until it isn't.We keep it human with the small moments that sting: kids correcting your lore with absolute certainty, balloon-photo pileups that halt foot traffic, and the Skyliner pausing midair while strangers share your glass cube. We even let Figment judge our snack choices from the walls and joke about a Jar Jar mover ride that tests patience and canon. Under the laughs is a real point: the magic relies on freedom, variety, and tiny kindnesses that keep the day feeling effortless. Take those away, and the happiest place gets a little haunted. If you're here for theme park talk with humor, honesty, and a dash of Halloween, you're in the right place. Press play, sip something spooky, and tell us your own Disney nightmare. And hey—if you're enjoying the show, tap follow, share it with a park pal, and leave a quick review so more fans can find us.

Disney is always looking for new ways to share stories. And increasingly those stories are trying to be more interactive, more immersive and more personalized. And at the same time, high tech companies are trying to be more interactive, more immersive and more personalized. One of those is Meta, or Facebook as many have come to know it. And as Mark Zuckerberg recently announced a new version of their Meta/RayBand eye wear, Disney has also announced that it will be partnering with Meta to create more interactive, more immersive, and more personalized experiences. With a pair of original Meta Glasses I recently received, I visited Disney's Hollywood Studios to test them out. The outcome is this: Meta Glasses are astonishingly smart while being amazingly stupid. This episode shows you how they accomplish both. But in the wake of it, offers some glimpse of what the future might do. So kick back and enjoy this episode as we explore the AI Possibilities at Disney through Rose-Colored Metas. ________________________________________________________ Disney Insights YouTube Page--Check it out and subscribe.
