I ran for Congress as an independent. I knocked on 10,000 front doors and talked to anybody who answered regardless of party. Now I'm telling the stories of those conversations. This is what voters worried about, what didn't matter, and the surprising places where we found a civil agreement on hot-button issues that you hear on the news every day.

I’d been talking to Bobby, a late 60’s retiree on her porch; waiting for the other shoe to drop. Now it did.  She needed me to fix her property taxes.  Forget that Congress has nothing to do with this, that’s what she wanted. Still this would have been fine except for the reason she wanted the help.  She wanted it because “she was done paying for property taxes” now that she didn’t have any kids in school.   That kind of entitlement wasn’t the sort of thing I respond well to.  So yeah, I lost a voter.  Here’s how it went.   **Quick note!  No pod next week!!
