The AFR is a fantasy football competition run for AFL fans. The podcast is hosted each week by Andrew Caple and Steve Watson where talk about everything that is AFR (Original League, Super League and all Cup Comps that are running), with some special guests popping in now and then for a chat. While…
In what will be the last podcast of the season, we take a look at the final round of the home and away season. Who made the finals, who missed out, Commish Medal winners.
We've only got two more rounds in the home and away season and just when we think things couldn't get more interesting the top 5 continue to fight for the best position going into the finals. A few teams in the Cup comps are starting to get nervous as well, the Champions League is really looks like it'll come down to the final round.
With only three rounds remaining in the season each game is really starting to mean 8 points - for the teams at the top of the ladder and the bottom! There were a couple of close ones this week except if you were playing the Warriors ...
I'm sure you're all like me and happy to send the end of the bye rounds, with the NBA draft completed and Round 13 done it means only one thing ... 1 more week until the trade deadline! If there are any trades that you have any players that you don't think that will make the cut .. now is the time.
This week we had the first try of the new system for the bye, I might be bias, but I loved it - other that a late withdrawal of my ruck which killed me - anyway that's a conversation for the podcast. We had a couple of high scoring games this week and I sure all Tex Walker owners were left wondering why, why this week.
We've been away a couple of weeks as life has got in the way again, but it's come around, that time of the season that we all dreed - the bye rounds. But fear not, Steve has come up with a way that will limit the damage to our minds and the scores.
I think for the first time in history we've had two ties in the same week, with only a couple of weeks out before the Mid Seaosn Draft those could make a huge impact on the draft order.
This week we had some massive scores by some teams and the Forwards set the scoring records alight across both leagues! While most people are looking at the league ladder we can't forget about the Champions League, we're down to the pointy end of the Group Stage now and some groups will come down to points scored - not just wins.
We had a week off last week due to Steve being sick and losing his voice, but we're back for a quick chat to talk about all the latest AFR news from Round 6.
Can you believe that we're 4 weeks into the season already? Put your hand up if you thought that you'd be doing better than you are … ok, so it's only the Chargers and Warriors that have their hands up.
Some of the scores this week came back down to earth as some of the teams started chasing the stats. The first two round of the AFR have been made up of some high scores, but Round 3 historically sees them come down a bit as some clubs start to figure out game plans. We announce a trade live on the podcast this week as it came through just as we were about to press record.
Round 2 saw some close games and some even coming down to the final few minutes of the AFL games, in saying that unlike most tipping comps out there the favourites still managed to win in most cases. This week Steve and I spend a bit more time looking at the Champions League and some of the how the Group Stages are looking.
Isn't it great to have football back .. last week I couldn't be bothered with it and this week I'm looking forward to Round 2 already. It might have something to do with me walking the Oxfam 100km trail walk and this time next week means that I would have (hopefully) completed it. There were some big scores this week and some if the teams probably exceeded expectations once that a once off or will it be the start of something big this season.
Where was the offseason? Yesterday we all got together for the pre-season draft, thanks to everyone for making it run so smoothly as always - although the question still gets asked: "Why does the Original League Draft always take longer than the Super League?". Tonight Steve I and catch up pretty much for the first time since the end of last season and we have a chat about the draft, our season predictions and take a look at Round 1 that starts this week.
We had a couple of technical issues to start the podcast today but we're back!! It's been a couple of weeks since Steve and I had some time to sit down and record the podcast, it's almost like getting the band back together again. The home and away season has completed and we're now into the finals and Cup Finals. We take a look back at some of the games at the end of the season and review the games from the weekend.

We're getting to the pointy-end of the season now with only three rounds left in the Home and Away season so many places are still up for grabs - at the top and the bottom of the ladder. Although everyone wants to make finals Champions League positions for next season are still up for grabs and the Phamtoms are showing both leagues how to end the season.

It's been a couple of weeks since Steve and I were able to have a chat and record a podcast, so we have a little bit to catch up on. I think we can all agree that it's great to see the back of the bye rounds .. but that now means that we have the trade deadline upon us. Any trade made after the round starts will come into effect after the end of season delist.

Last week was another bad week for Steve and I to fit in the podcast, as I came down with COVID and he's work was crazy ... but that was last week!! This week we take a look at the wash-up of the Mid Season Draft some of the things that took us by surprise. The Champions League is in full swing and the STANDA Cup kicks off.

It's upon us ... Mid-Season Draft week. Quite a few teams having been hanging out for this period as they hope for the season changer that will catapult them straight up the ladder. In terms of who to pick up, we'll leave that for you to decide but Steve has had a look at the teams and has made a prediction on the priorities for the teams. We also take a look at the latest round - as always.

With only a couple of weeks to the mid-season draft each win or loss has a dramatic effect on the draft order, this week the Brawlers felt the force of the Convicts as they stay undefeated in the Super League. Natas had a tight game with the Blue Flames but continue the march towards breaking the longest winning streak.

Remember the days where getting over 200 happened every 5 years!! Nexus smashed the highest AFR score this week with 226, however it was the Blue Flames and Titans score that took all the headlines - possibly one of the greatest AFR games in history. With only a couple of weeks until the mid season draft the order seems to be changing each week.

Round 5 is completed and a couple of things are starting to stand out .. there is a massive gap between the have and have nots. There are a couple of teams struggling to get their season off to the start they were wanting and some others that seem to make their own luck. Cam is away so we don't think there will be a Judge for a couple of weeks - so it's up to Steve and I to give a critique on peoples teams.

Another record-breaking round, as Natas break last week's record with a score of 214, perhaps it's the Convicts that are stealing the show as they are 4-0 after defeating The Thylacines in a tough high scoring game. Where to for the Phamtoms as they are the only team without a win across the two leagues.

The Original League looks to be the season of Natas .. however they look like they might have some competition from the Blue Flames, after putting up over 200 on the weekend could Round 7 see the end of the Natas run for the longest winning record. Meanwhile last years premiers in the Super League are currently 0-3.

We're only two rounds into the new season but the ladder is already looking like the top five has been set. Needless to say we know Cam is glad Naomi is in the Super League as Natas are looking almost unstoppable in the Original League. The Brawlers are requesting for the season to be called now, yeah nah.
It's March and the Judge has posted his first article on the site ... this means that AFR season is now underway, Steve and Andrew finally get together to record the first podcast of the 2022 season.

Another season is completed and as the new tradition states we have the two winning Managers on the Podcast to talk about everything Original and Super League. Dan and Cam give us a run down on how they saw the Grand Final and the 2021 season. We also have a chat about the bomb Steve dropped last week. Thank you to everyone that followed us throughout the year, we'll be back next year for the 20th AFR season!
What a massive week, the Champions League final and the right to see meet the Warriors and Natas in the finals for the league. The Bucks and Atoms have surprised everyone and pushed for their first Grand Final appearance. Will the minor premier show some class or will the new comers knock them off? We also give you an insight into our thinking ....
The Semi Finals are done and we've seen a few massive wins on the weekend, the Bucks and Nexus start to flex and the other teams are now looking over their shoulder. The Brawlers take the AFR Cup and look to block Natas this week in the Champions League.
It all came down to the final round of the season, as a comp we love it when this happens ... as a manager you hate it!! This week we take a look at the final round of the home and away season and who won the Commish Medal. Next week we also have the STANDA Cup Grand Final and the ever important Champions League Semi Finals.
What a night to record the podcast ... Andrew was watching the Blue Origin launch and trying to concentrate on talking about the AFR. With only one more round remaining in the 2021 season we take a look at how things could turn out and who's in the best position to make the Original and Super League finals.

We've had a couple of weeks off while Steve was away .. but we're back for the run home, we take a look at the Round 16 results and a quick look at the run home with only two rounds to go in the season.
Steve is away for the next couple of weeks, so Cam joins me tonight as we review the past two rounds ... as we rejoice that the bye rounds are finally over. We know we're getting to the pointy end of the season when the trade deadline comes around - no trades can occur once the next round starts.
Round 11 is completed, can you believe we got there in the end. It just made us all think that we're not out of the woods yet with COVID and we'll need to be ready for the fixtures to change at any moment. Speaking of which, that brings us to the bye rounds ...
With the mid season draft now completed all managers have their eyes on the end of the season, some looking forward to finals and some I'm sure already have an eye on the final delist. The trade deadline is the next deadline we all have coming up quickly - no trades can happen once Round 14 starts. This week we take a look Cup games and of course the Round 10 scores ... we have another team joining the 200 Club.
With the Mid Season Draft upon us, this weeks podcast is a preview of the 2021 MSD. Although we spend some time looking at the results from the weekend we'll take a look at the delists and the draft order as well as a small prediction from Steve.
With Round 8 now completed all teams will be looking forward to the mid season draft next week, reminder to all Managers that delists are due now with the deadline next Monday night. This week also saw the completion of the first phase of the Champions League - it certainly went down to the wire in some of the groups.
We're only a couple of weeks away from the mid season draft and the ladders in both leagues are very tight, one win and everything could change. The Champions League is mirroring the league and with one round to go some spots are still up for grabs.
