Joining me today is the legendary Mikkey Dee.Mikkey Dee is a legendary Swedish heavy metal drummer best known for his long tenure with Motörhead and his current role in the Scorpions. Renowned for his extreme speed, precision, and hard-hitting style, he is widely considered one of the most influential drummers in rock and metal history. Lex Legion: In 2026, Mikkey Dee reunited with the classic 1988 King Diamond line-up, alongside vocalist Nils K. Rue, to form a new side-project called Lex Legion. They released their debut single "Sleep Eternally" in May 2026 He tracked drums as part of a temporary metal supergroup—alongside Phil Anselmo, Kirk Hammett, and Billy Sheehan—for a reworked version of "Fast As A Shark" on Accept's 50th-anniversary album. Motörhead (1992–2015): Dee joined the iconic British band in 1992, replacing Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. He remained a core member alongside Lemmy Kilmister and Phil Campbell for over two decades, recording 12 studio albums including Bastards, Inferno, and their final record, Bad Magic. The band officially dissolved following Lemmy's death in late 2015. Scorpions (2016–Present): In September 2016, Dee was announced as the permanent replacement for James Kottak in the Scorpions. It was great to connect with the legendary Mikkey Dee. This guy has been the backbeat of bands from King Diamond to Don Dokken, to Motorhead, to the Scorpions. Now you can add his latest band, Lex Legion, to that list. Made up of guys he played with in King Diamond's band, Andy LaRocque, Pete Blakk, and Hal Patino, then throw in vocalist Nils K. Rue, and you've got a band that delivers heavy-hitting, old-school rock/metal.The Motorhead YearsWe talked about his time in Motorhead, which lasted 25 years. He said if Lemmy were still alive, he'd still be in that band. He compared it to a tight family unit. He also said Lem was the kind of guy to stick to his guns. "And as frustrating as that was sometimes, because he did not know everything best, you know? We were a total democracy in this band. We voted him down many times, me and Phil. I was maybe a little bit more involved with the business as well. You know, they, we all made decisions. That's, that's now where I'm trying to get, get out. But I'm actually interested in numbers and, and, you know, the business side of it. And they were just like more, oh, what the hell, you deal with it, kind of." Mikkey went on, "You know, and he, he made me look in a different angle about it. And, he was right, you know, a lot of times about this, not compromising the band or selling out. And, you know, I learned a lot from him there."Lex LegionThe new self-titled album drops on June 12th. It's short, clocking in at around 35 minutes. Mikkey said they did that so the vinyl release wouldn't sound too compressed. It consists of 9 songs.Mikkey said he enjoyed making this album. "A hundred percent, you know, because a lot of people, rightfully so, compare us now to the old Diamond Records that we did. But that's how we wrote music those days. And we continue writing this way. We are probably a nightmare for a more regular producer who will tear his or her hair off. Because why is this part over here? Why are you doing a double solo there? Or why do you have guitar harmonies after there?And it doesn't make any sense. But that's how we wrote those days. And that's the whole point of this, you know. We continue doing this on this record. It's not just verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, verse, double chorus ending."He did tell me that they're already working on the next record! "We're riffing away already. And as I said, I'll be very busy with Scorpions at least up till October. The last thing we do, as far as I know right now, is the residency in Vegas."Playing With The ScorpionsMikkey has been in the Scorpions for the better part of ten years now. They have an upcoming residency in Las Vegas coming up again this fall. "We love it. And we have so many friends in Vegas. And what a great city. Great people. Great venue." As far as the setlist for that band is concerned, he said it's close to last years celbration of the band's 60th anniversary. "But this year is an extension of last year's 60th anniversary show. And it's really, really good. I mean, we have a great 70s medley in there. And the set works really fine. Because I was asking the guys before we actually started this year, what are we going to take out? What are we going to add about rehearsal and stuff? And they said they want us to continue doing the 60th anniversary show. And it's great!"The new Lex Legion record drops on June 12th. Filmmaker Dave Markey discusses his documentary "The Secret Lives of Bill Bartell", the punk scene's most fascinating, mysterious, and surprisingly influential behind-the-scenes figure. Dave bought records directly from band members at punk shows. Ian MacKaye sold Dave a first press Minor Threat 7". Dave bought Minutemen and Descendents EPs from D-Boon for a dollar. Dave made the Bill Bartell documentary for people who don't know him. Bill Bartell was unknowable — different things to different people. Dave tried making this film in the 90s; Bill refused to cooperate. The film was made ten years after Bill passed away. Bill Bartell faked backstage passes to get into arena rock shows. Bill named the Iron Maiden live EP Maiden Japan. Bill gave Steve Harris his outfit, worn in the "Run to the Hills" video. Bill saw no distinction between the Scorpions, the Germs, and the Beatles. Bill would tell artists exactly what he thought — no filter whatsoever. Bill told Steve Perry he was responsible for the worst night of his life. Bill told Beck "I don't like you" upon their very first meeting. Bill tried out as guitarist for Public Image Ltd in 1981. Kiss circulated photos of Bill to security: do not let him in. Bill befriended Sean Lennon, which led to a friendship with Yoko Ono. Bill's 1988 Beatlefest noise performance nearly caused a riot. Bill talked Kiss manager Bill Aucoin into discovering Generation X. That connection indirectly launched Billy Idol's massive solo career. Billy Idol himself didn't know Bill Bartell's role until recently. Bill gave Kurt Cobain Os Mutantes tapes, reviving the band's career. Pat Smear and Drew Barrymore were sought for the film but unavailable. Dave's band Painted Willie did Black Flag's final tour in 1986. Dave preferred Painted Willie's early Spinhead Records releases over SST output. The Bill Bartell documentary and Love Dolls films are now on Criterion Channel. Bill Bartell's Flying V guitar now hangs in the Punk Rock Museum, Las Vegas. Bill's money, connections, and secrets largely died with him — still a mystery. In the words of the Los Angeles Times, “A new book by (Patrick Radden) Keefe means drop everything and close the blinds; you'll be turning pages for hours.” Keefe is an award-winning investigative journalist, a staff writer at the New Yorker, the creator of a popular podcast, and the author of six books, including the bestsellers Rogues, Empire of Pain, and Say Nothing. “When I go out looking for a good story,” says Keefe, “I almost never find one. Instead, the really good ones tend to fall in my lap.” Say Nothing was prompted by reading an obituary. A wild-seeming rumor about the 90's heavy metal band The Scorpions led to the podcast Wind of Change, a sweeping tale of government secrets, Soviet spies, propaganda, and 90's power ballads. To call his research “meticulous” is an understatement. Keefe's book, Snakehead, required over 300 interviews to complete. Say Nothing found him speaking to thousands of sources. While writing about the opioid epidemic in EMPIRE OF PAIN, Keefe was blocked from speaking to the Sackler family, so instead, he amassed thousands of correspondences from personal emails to Bar Mitzvah announcements. Though Keefe's doggedness recalls the detective stories that inspired him early on, he is perhaps more hopeful than hardboiled. By approaching those forces that appear too vast to unravel, he proves that even institutions and systems that seem unassailable can, in fact, be broken down and examined—one interview, one receipt, one wedding invitation at a time. Like all the great whodunnits, his books contain breathtaking plot twists. Though he has, on at least one occasion, solved a murder mystery, Keefe is less interested in pointing to a perpetrator and more interested in holding up a mirror. The question at the heart of his work is one that pertains to everyone: What does it mean to be human? His newest book, London Falling, is an investigation into the mysterious death of 19-year-old Zach Brettler and its connection to both London's criminal underworld and its elite circles. The author Katherine Rundell says, “Nobody writes like Patrick Radden Keefe; nobody makes achieving something so powerfully complex and difficult look so easy. It's a form of intellectual generosity and, I think, a form of genius.” Patrick Radden Keefe is a staff writer at The New Yorker and the author of the New York Times bestsellers Rogues, Empire of Pain, and Say Nothing, which received the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction, was selected as one of the ten best books of 2019 by The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and The Wall Street Journal, and was named one of the top ten nonfiction books of the decade by Entertainment Weekly. His previous books are The Snakehead and Chatter. His work has been recognized with a Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Magazine Award for Feature Writing and the Orwell Prize for Political Writing. He is also the creator and host of the eight-part podcast Wind of Change.

Lena has spent the last few months teaching kids in East Africa, serving a long-term team who live there.Just a few years ago she was a student, learning about God's heart for the nations, working with international students on campus and taking various short-term mission trips.
