CIA or Scorpions? The Whistling Conspiracy That Rocked the Berlin Wall

One whistle. One wall. One wildly chaotic comedy podcast trying to figure out if the CIA secretly wrote a power ballad.Today on The Rizzuto Show, we spiral into a Cold War rabbit hole that somehow involves the Scorpions, the Berlin Wall, and a conspiracy theory so good it almost makes sense. Did the CIA plant “Winds of Change” as a psychological earworm to destabilize the Soviet Union? Or was it just a German rock band vibing in Moscow and accidentally soundtracking the end of communism? We break down the timeline: Moscow Music Peace Festival. The Berlin Wall falling. A whistle so catchy your dog might start questioning geopolitics. We debate whether government agents in suits at Langley were secretly ghostwriting ballads. We investigate Doc McGhee's wild backstory. We ask the hard-hitting questions like: is whistling rock propaganda? And could Moon be recruited as a sleeper agent if it involved a Garth Brooks duet? But that's just the start of this daily chaos. We also dig into the tragic anniversary of the Station Nightclub fire and how it changed live music forever. Then it's a full “Crap on Celebrities” sprint featuring Foo Fighters new music (and Dave Grohl's ongoing drama), Journey reunion rumors getting crushed in real time, and Fred Durst volunteering to front Van Halen like it's an open mic night. There's Summerfest flexing (Moon casually “playing with Garth Brooks” a week apart, but we're counting it), a Toy Story sequel that's basically about iPads ruining childhood, and a reminder that yes — Ryan Reynolds had a slump once. It's conspiracy theories, celebrity chaos, music nostalgia, questionable impressions, and just enough sarcasm to keep this comedy podcast legally non-threatening to the CIA. Probably. If you like your history lessons with a side of roast, your celebrity news unfiltered, and your daily humor served with St. Louis flavor, this comedy podcast is exactly what your brain ordered.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Status Quo's John Coghlan: Founder, Drummer, Rock Survivor

A Breath of Fresh Air

John Coghlan is one of British rock's most instantly recognisable drummers — a powerhouse player whose relentless, no-nonsense beat helped define the sound and success of Status Quo, one of the UK's most enduring and best-loved rock bands. As a founding member, John was there at the very beginning, helping to shape a career that would span decades, rack up millions of record sales, and soundtrack generations of fans.Born in London in 1946, John Coghlan's musical journey began early. Like many drummers of his era, he was drawn to rhythm and energy rather than flashy technique, developing a style that was solid, driving and unmistakably his own. In the mid-'60s, he joined forces with Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster, forming a band initially known as The Scorpions, later Traffic Jam, and eventually Status Quo. From the outset, Coghlan's drumming was the engine room — dependable, muscular, and perfectly suited to the band's evolving sound.Status Quo first found chart success in the late '60s with their psychedelic hit “Pictures of Matchstick Men,” but it was in the early '70s that the band truly hit its stride. As Quo pivoted towards a heavier, boogie-driven rock style, John Coghlan's role became even more central. His straight-ahead, four-on-the-floor approach powered classic albums such as “Piledriver,” “Hello!,” “On the Level,” and “Blue for You.” Songs like “Caroline,” “Down Down,” “Whatever You Want,” and “Rockin' All Over the World” simply wouldn't work without that relentless Coghlan groove. What set John Coghlan apart wasn't technical showmanship, but feel. He understood exactly what Status Quo needed — a beat you could march to, drive to, and lose yourself in. His drumming became a signature part of the band's identity, locking in tightly with bassist Alan Lancaster and giving Rossi and Rick Parfitt the perfect platform to do what they did best. In an era full of increasingly complex rock drummers, Coghlan proved that simplicity, when done right, could be just as powerful. After more than a decade of non-stop touring, recording and chart success, John Coghlan left Status Quo in '81. The decision came after years of intense work and personal pressures, marking the end of an era for the band and its fans. However, his departure was far from the end of his musical story. Coghlan remained deeply connected to music, carving out a respected second chapter as a live performer and bandleader. In the years that followed, he formed John Coghlan's Quo, later known as John Coghlan's Status Quo, a band dedicated to celebrating the classic Quo sound. Fronting the group from behind the drum kit, John brought authenticity and first-hand experience to audiences around the world, performing the songs he helped create with the same energy and conviction that made them famous in the first place. For fans of early Status Quo, these shows became a chance to reconnect with the raw, boogie-rock spirit of the band's golden years.Beyond the stage, John Coghlan has also been open and candid about the realities of life in rock and roll. His autobiography, “Spud – From the Hood to the Good Life,” offers a refreshingly honest account of fame, friendship, excess, and survival in the music industry. It's a story filled with humour, grit and reflection, shedding light on both the highs of global success and the personal challenges that came with it.Today, John Coghlan is widely recognised as a foundational figure in British rock history. His influence lives on not only through Status Quo's vast catalogue but also through generations of drummers inspired by his commitment to groove over gloss. He represents a time when rock music was built on stamina, sweat and connection with an audience — night after night, song after song. For fans of Status Quo, classic rock, and the musicians who kept it real, John Coghlan remains exactly what he's always been: the beating heart behind one of the most reliable rock rhythms the UK has ever produced.

In this episode of "Seeing Them Live," host Charles welcomes back Paul Peterson, a retired technology manager and lifelong audiophile who hosts the podcast 'An Avid Listener.' Together, Charles and Paul explore the complex world of bands performing with significantly changed lineups. The conversation was sparked by Paul's recent concert experiences, including seeing Alan Parsons and the Doobie Brothers with almost entirely new members, which led him to question what makes a band authentic and what concertgoers are really seeking when they buy tickets based on a famous name.Charles and Paul examine numerous examples of lineup changes with varying outcomes. They contrast successful transitions like AC/DC replacing Bon Scott with Brian Johnson and Iron Maiden swapping Paul Di'Anno for Bruce Dickinson, with more questionable situations like Grand Funk Railroad touring without Mark Farner, the Beach Boys performing with only Mike Love, and Queen continuing with Adam Lambert. The discussion reveals how fans often purchase tickets unaware of major personnel changes, raising questions about transparency and the power of brand names in the music industry.Paul encourages listeners to research bands before attending concerts and seek experiences that offer more than nostalgia. He emphasizes the value of artists sharing stories and offering unique performances rather than simply recreating studio recordings, praising innovative approaches like Steely Dan performing entire albums in sequence and intimate acoustic sets from aging rockers. While lineup changes are inevitable, the key is transparency and delivering an experience that justifies the ticket price—whether through musical excellence, storytelling, unique venues, or discovering new bands at smaller, more intimate settings.BANDS: AC/DC, Alan Parsons, Beach Boys, Beatles, Black Sabbath, BoDeans, Brian Auger, Doobie Brothers, Duke Tomato and the All Stars, Eagles, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Flaming Lips, Fleetwood Mac, Gov't Mule, Grand Funk Railroad, Grateful Dead, Heart, Iron Maiden, James Gang, Johnny Reno and the Sax Maniacs, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin Two, Motley Crue, Pink Floyd, Queen, Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Steely Dan, Super Tramp, The Doors, The Who, Toto.VENUES: Arcadia, Auditorium Theater, Candlestick Park, Chicago Stadium, City Winery, Empty Bottle, Fitzgerald's, Hollywood Bowl, House of Blues, Living Room, Riot Fest, Shea Stadium, The Sphere. 🔥 TRACKLIST_LA HORA DEL ROCK N. 361: KISS – Escape From the Island - Music From The Elder (1981) Horseman - No Surrender in Dark Days – Sending Fire (2026) Kubika Disorders – Fight or Flight (2026) In Flames – In The Dark - Foregone – Limited Edition (2023) The Ferrymen – Adrenaline - Iron Will (2025) Petra – Kiss the Coals - Hope (2026) Siska – We’ll Return - Broken Dreams (2026) Siska – Lonely Tomb - Broken Dreams (2026) Armando De Castro – Survive - Hard Rock (2025) Malas Artes & Jimmy Navas – Regalando Estupidez - El Bufón (2025) Bourbon Kings & Def Con Dos – Haka (Single, 2025) Social Insanity – Ides of Time - Ides of Time (2025) Hammer King – Kingdom of the Hammer King - Kingdom Of The Hammer King – Remastered (2025) Rob Zombie – Superbeast - Essentials (1999) Crematory – Ghost of the Past - Oblivion (2025) Exodus – 3111 (Single, 2026) Kreator – Psychotic Imperator - Krushers Of The World (2026) Megadeth – Made to Kill - Megadeth (2026) Asgard Warriors – La Leyenda del Dragón - Sombras del Alma (2024) Unbounded Terror – Fear of Dying - Something is Rotten in Humanity (2024) Venger – Impaler of Souls - Times of Legend (2026) Edenbridge – Our Place Among the Stars - Set The Dark On Fire (2026) Acanthus – Fall for the Ink - Pay for Impressions (2025) Megadeth – Hey God! - Megadeth (2026) Marianas Rest – Again into the Night - The Bereaved (2026) Heavy Pettin – Bullets and Pills - Rock Generation (2025) Scorpions – Rhythm of Love - Savage Amusement (1988) _ (Homenaje a Francis Buchholz) dArtagnan – Ruf der Freiheit - Herzblut (CD1, 2024) STAY FUCKIN HEAVY !!

Welcome to the second annual Seeing Them Live Year End Concert Review show, where a panel of returning guests shares their favorite live music experiences from 2025. Host Charles brings together an eclectic group of music enthusiasts including award-winning documentary filmmaker Eric Green, podcast host Jessica Catena, nurse practitioner Summer, antique shop owner Art Gregg, executive assistant Dawn Fontaine, accountant Steve Pothel, high school teacher Andy, and producer Doug Flozak to discuss the concerts that defined their year.Eric Green kicks off the discussion with an impressive lineup that showcased both legendary side projects and emerging talent. His year began with Close Enemies featuring Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton at City Winery Boston, followed by Kim Deal's solo tour at the Wilbur Theater. He caught Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame doing an intimate VH1 Storytellers-style performance, and witnessed Shane Hawkins honoring his late father Taylor Hawkins with Chevy Metal at Brighton Music Hall. Eric also saw the Joe Perry Project's supergroup lineup featuring Chris Robinson and Robert DeLeo, enjoyed a nostalgic double bill of Billy Idol and Joan Jett at the Xfinity Center, caught the rising stars Wet Leg at a packed Roadrunner Boston show, experienced Jeff Tweedy's multigenerational band at Royale, and closed out his year with Throwing Muses at the new Racket venue in New York City.Jessica Catena attended three memorable indoor concerts that kept her dry after previous years of rain-soaked shows. She saw young jazz sensation Samara Joy at the newly renovated Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut with her uncle, experienced the Broadway spectacle of Moulin Rouge featuring Wayne Brady and Taye Diggs with updated contemporary songs, and capped off her year at iHeartRadio's Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden, where she saw Ed Sheeran, Laufey, and a diverse lineup of pop and folk artists while dealing with some challenging sightlines.Summer's concert year included the intimate Metro show with Bridget Calls Me Baby where her son met the bass player's parents, a record-breaking night at Lollapalooza featuring Olivia Rodrigo's surprise Weezer collaboration, an energetic Yungblud performance at the Riviera that included some crowd drama, and a unique operatic interpretation of Smashing Pumpkins' Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness at the Lyric Opera of Chicago during a snowstorm.Art Gregg had a remarkable year highlighted by three unforgettable shows. He saw childhood hero Burton Cummings of The Guess Who at the North Shore Center for Performing Arts after accidentally meeting him in the lobby without recognizing him, caught Michael Schenker's 50 Years with UFO celebration at the Desplaines Theater, and scored a last-minute ninth-row ticket to see Robert Plant at the intimate Vic Theatre, where the Led Zeppelin legend performed six classic songs including an electrifying version of Ramble On that earned a rare standing ovation.Charles rounds out the discussion by mentioning his own concert experiences at new Chicago venues including Space in Evanston where he saw Mdou Moctar and The Old 97s, the female-focused Motoblot festival at Beat Kitchen, an incredible Buddy Guy performance at the Rialto Square Theater where the 89-year-old blues legend walked through the aisles playing guitar, shows at the new Garcia's venue and City Winery, and his anticipation for an upcoming Iron Maiden show. The episode concludes with a teaser for part two, which will feature Dawn's private jet experience with the Rolling Stones, Andy's Bonnaroo adventure, and Steve's concert highlights.BANDS: Aerosmith, Alex Warren, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Belly, Benmont Tench, Billy Idol, Black Crows, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, Bridget Calls Me Baby, Burton Cummings, Chapel Rowan, Chevy Metal, Close Enemies, DJO, Dogs in a Pile, Ed Sheeran, Elastica, Elastica, Elvis, Foo Fighters, Foghat, Foster the People, Gary Newman, Generation X, Gigi Perez, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, Jeff Tweedy, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Joe Perry Project, Johnny Cash, K-pop band Monsta X, Katy Perry, Kim Deal, King Gizzard, Laufey, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin 2, Liz Fair, Mdou Moctar, Metallica, Michael Shanker, Miles Smith, Ministry, Neil Young, Nelly, Nine Inch Nails, Olivia Rodrigo, Ozzy Osborne, Pixies, Psychedelic Furs, Radiohead, Robert Plant, Rolling Stones, Runaways, Samara Joy, Sarah Larson, Shonen Knife, Smashing Pumpkins, Soraia, Stone Temple Pilots, Taylor Hawkins, The Babies, The Beatles, The Black Crows, The Boudines, The Breeders, The Guess Who, The Old 97s, The Police, The Scorpions, The Velvet Underground, Throwing Muses, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, UFO, Van Halen, Walk the Moon, Wayne Brady, Weezer, Wet Leg, Wilco, Wrought Iron Soul, Yungblud.VENUES: Aragon Ballroom, Barclays, Beat Kitchen, Box Center Wang Theater (Boston), Brighton Music Hall (Boston), City Winery (Boston), City Winery (Chicago), Credit Union One Amphitheater, Desplaines Theater, Garcia's, Grant Park, Great Woods (Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts), House of Blues, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Madison Square Garden, Metro, North Shore Center for Performing Arts (Skokie, Illinois), Penn Station, Racket (New York City/Chelsea), Ravinia, Rialto Square Theater, Ridgefield Playhouse, Riviera, Roadrunner Boston, Royale (Boston), Salt Shed (Chicago), Sonia (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Space (Evanston, Illinois), Thalia Hall, Tweeter Center, Vic Theatre (Chicago), Wilbur Theater (Boston), Wrigley Field, Xfinity Center (Mansfield, Massachusetts). What goes through your mind in the second before you die, and is that moment worse than the pain itself? Nuclear weapons and energy warfare. The psychology of fear, and why dying instantly might be preferable to surviving what comes after. Autoerotic asphyxiation, public shame, and how families rewrite uncomfortable truths. How cultural perception flips overnight, from fear to obsession. K-pop, Netflix, and the line between admiration and fetishization. Scorpions, snake venom, and the idea that sometimes survival isn't the point. Corporate media, the collapse of local radio, Covid guilt, money stress, aging, and the low-grade anxiety underneath everyday life.

Choses à Savoir HISTOIRE
Pourquoi les Égyptiens dormaient-ils sur des oreillers en pierre ?

Choses à Savoir HISTOIRE

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 11, 2026 1:59

“And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, ‘God is tempting me.’ God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.” (James 1:13–14 NLT) We all know what it’s like to be tempted. But where does temptation come from? It does not come from God. James 1:13–14 says, “And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, ‘God is tempting me.’ God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away” (NLT). We play a key role in our own temptation. It’s like the scorpion who wanted to cross a pond. Scorpions can’t swim, of course, so he needed a ride. He walked up to a rather unsuspecting turtle and said, “I was wondering if you might give me a lift across this little pond.” The turtle said, “Are you joking? You will sting me, and we’ll both drown.” The scorpion said, “My dear turtle, if I were to sting you, I would go down with you. Where would the logic be in that?” As they made their way across the little pond, however, the scorpion pulled out his stinger and gave the turtle a mighty sting. As they both sank to the bottom, the turtle turned to the scorpion and said, “There was no logic in stinging me. Why in the world did you do it?” The scorpion replied, “It has nothing to do with logic. It’s just my nature.” This is a good point for Christians to remember. When we give in to temptation, it has nothing to do with logic. It’s just our nature. We like to say, “The devil made me do it,” or “Circumstances overwhelmed me,” or “I couldn’t control myself.” But in reality, it’s just our sinful nature. Let’s be clear here. We don’t have to give in to our old nature. The only power it has over us is the power we give it. The apostle Paul wrote, “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin” (Romans 6:6–7 NLT). We have everything we need to resist our old nature. We can turn to God for help. We can find comfort, strength, wisdom, and encouragement in His Word. We can talk to other believers. If we ignore these resources, we give our old nature a foothold in our lives. God’s Word urges us to be strong and steadfast. To opt for something better when our old nature rears its head. As Paul wrote, “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh” (Romans 13:14 NIV). Reflection question: How do you resist the pull of your old nature? With both a U.S. tour and a new session of Sky Academy booked for April/May, Uli Jon Roth is headed for an exciting Spring of 2026. It's all part of his passion to reach (and help his Sky Academy students reach) new musical heights. “A great musician is always growing,” says the German-born, U.K.-based guitar hero. Indeed, Uli could have rested on his laurels as the lava-hot lead player of '70s-era Scorpions hard rock. But, taking inspiration from the music of heroes such as Keith Jarrett, Jimi Hendrix, and Antonio Vivaldi, he has always strived for a much deeper level of artistic expression. In this exclusive visit to Sky Academy, we plug in with Uli and embark on some epic improvisational odysseys, gain insights into his hugely influential rock masterpiece “The Sails of Charon,” learn about his unique extended-neck Sky Guitars, and, best of all, learn why, as he says, “the fingers are the least important part of your sound.” Hosted by Jude Gold, this episode is brought to you by your online guitar instruction friends at TrueFire. He shares insights about improved relationships within the band after their year-long break and discusses his daily guitar practice routine that keeps his playing sharp. The conversation touches on potential future collaborations, his solo projects, and the fascinating origin story behind 'Don't Stop Believin'.' After that, former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth joins Eddie Trunk to discuss his upcoming 'Pictures of Destiny' US tour, which combines symphonic rock compositions with visual art and celebrates the 50th anniversaries of the influential Scorpions albums 'In Trance' and 'Virgin Killer.'
