I'm realizing how important Africana studies education is in relationship to world news, politics, and how we imagine freedom. So, huge shoutout to Black Power Media for their work in revolutionary news and media. Much of the information in this episode is synthesized from Dhoruba Bin Wahad and Ajamu Baraka's interview with Kalonji Chonga on Riot Starter TV. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/support

Why? @umimaji @danielleelainebenjamin and @mulema_alchemy get into it all and so much more. Happy Black History Month!!! I think we give more fuel to exaggerated differences as African people than we do our similarities and origins. The diaspora wars have been running rampant this past week - I was in a Tariq Nasheed twitter space where it was a clear “Foundational African American” versus the African world vibration. I'm tired...I'm tired of the exaggerated differences made amongst African people all over the world. I think these imaginary borders have caused HUGE cognitive dissonance about who we are. WE ARE AFRICAN. TO BE BLACK IS TO BE AFRICAN. And our liberation is connected. Being CLEAR about identity and how we name ourselves is very important to how we align ideologically. Harriet Tubman was my case study at the end of this episode, let's talk. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/support

Many of us suffer from this need to be perfect so much so that we don't respect our ignorance and the importance of being a student. We're human and we don't need to know everything to be worthy to speak, be, or create. What is time?

Do you know how to rest? I've definitely been learning how to, and getting out of the habit of feeling like I'm not "on time". Capitalist society has us feeling like we're never enough so we should never allocate time to rest. Like what is time really? Of course, we need to show up for ourselves and be in alignment but why feed into this idea that resting isn't productive? Why can't stillness be "work"? Make room to rest, cultivate peace, and be in alignment with your assignment - and sometimes that's sitting yo' ass down. The timing of your life is a process of co-creating with God (so it ain't always about you and “your time”).  :P --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/support

Systems around us are crumbling and sometimes we find our faith doing the same. Continue to do the work, continue to surrender, and continue to have faith. Because amidst your doubts, the creator and your ancestors still bless and carry you. But you have to continue to do the work.  Trusting ourselves is so crucial to our growth and development and you aren't alone in relearning how to trust your intuition, spirit, and mind again. This week we talk about why trusting yourself is important. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/support

Our people die if we don't tell our stories!

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 16, 2021 10:12

This was a very powerful message - I got emotional thinking about how cultures, stories, and people die if we don't talk about them. Do you know your story? The story of your people? Who are your people? Where did they come from? What is their story? Storytelling is how Africana people's families, cultures, and philosophies have lived on for thousands of years. But if we stop learning, stop speaking, stop telling our story— what will live on? You never know how your story may transform someone. Your story, culture, or interest could make way for someone to unleash their gifts, release a burden, or transform an idea. Human connection is magical in that way. You give life and energy to experiences and ideas, and every time you speak. Share your story! Prose on about your people! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ayanmo-radio/support
