Dr. David Griffin, a Charleston, South Carolina native, is a nationally recognized leader, speaker, author, and fire service professional whose life was forever changed on June 18, 2007. As the driver of the first engine on scene at the devastating Sofa Super Store fire that claimed the lives of nine Charleston firefighters, David was thrust into a journey of trauma, transformation, and ultimately, purpose. Haunted by survivor's guilt, Griffin initially spiraled into destructive coping mechanisms including alcohol, painkillers, and professional mixed martial arts fighting. After a punishing bout with UFC veteran Houston “The Assassin” Alexander left him battered and soul-searching, he came to a powerful realization: the path he was on did not honor the legacy of the nine lives lost. That moment became the catalyst for his life's mission to lead change, challenge outdated systems, and promote healing and resilience among first responders and organizations worldwide. Today, Dr. Griffin holds a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership and Development, a Master's Degree in Executive Fire Service Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Citadel, where he also played Division I baseball and later coached. He currently serves as the Assistant Chief for the Charleston Fire Department, having held every uniformed rank, and leads the department's Honor Guard and Mental Health Peer Support Team. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer program and has completed executive education at Harvard, Yale, Cornell, and through the IAFC's Fire Service Executive Development Institute. He is a Certified Fire Officer IV, Chief Fire Officer (CFO), and Chief Training Officer (CTO), and is an active member of the IAFC and the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE). Beyond his fire service career, Griffin's personal journey is one of grit and resilience. From overcoming doubts as a young athlete to becoming a state bodybuilding champion, professional MMA fighter, marathoner, and Ironman triathlete, he lives what he teaches. He was a rider in the 1,700-mile Brotherhood Ride from Florida to Ground Zero and continues to pursue fitness through boxing, surfing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and more. In 2013, David launched The Find Your Mission Tour, an international movement of leadership, mental health awareness, and cultural reform. Over the last 12 years, he has spoken to more than 1,300 organizations across 47 U.S. states and multiple countries, reaching over 550,000 people in five languages. His audiences include fire and police departments, military units, universities, private companies, and nonprofits. He is also a best-selling author with four published books: In Honor of The Charleston 9: A Study of Change Following Tragedy ACTION: 9 Missions for Personal and Professional Growth From PTSD to PTG: A Firefighter's (MY) Journey After a Multiple LODD Incident Tattoos and Trauma: The Healing Power of Tattoos for Emergency Responders Griffin is currently working on three new books: I'll Stand By You, Principled Leadership From The Road Less Traveled, and Handwritten Hope: Poetry and Prose to Cope. Today we are deeply honored and privileged to speak with journalist-activist Yousef Aljamal, one of the editors of a remarkable, gripping, and altogether inspiring collection, Displaced in Gaza: Stories from the Gaza Genocide, 27 stories written by Palestinians in Gaza. We talk about the conception behind the book, and concentrate on certain keywords like obligation, pride, inventiveness, and resilience. Aljamal talks about how Palestinians are relying on a long history of survival and persistence—educating, caring for, and continuing life under the most oppressive circumstances imaginable. We end by echoing the voices in this collection, which call on the international community to continue to fill the streets, pressure politicians and to fight for Palestinian freedom.Yousef Aljamal, born in a refugee camp in Gaza, works as the Gaza coordinator at the Palestine Activism Program at the American Friends Service Committee and recently received his PhD at Sakarya University in Turkey. He is the editor of If I Must Die Poetry and Prose by Refaat Alareer. He is the co-editor of Displaced in Gaza: Stories from the Gaza Genocide.

Send us a text"The Exposé" delivers a gut-punch exploration of what happens when our talents and compromises collide with our relationships and integrity. At its heart are two parallel journeys of people discovering that their attempts to course-correct may have come too late. Valene has written a manuscript based on Gary's famous Texas family that's caught a publisher's interest. Her excitement quickly turns to anxiety when Gary finally reads it and declares it can never see the light of day. Though fictionalized, the story contains enough truth about the Ewings that Gary fears public humiliation. What follows is Valene's painful realization that her newfound talent has become a threat to her marriage. When she agrees to shelve the book in exchange for Gary spending less time with Abby, we see a woman sacrificing her creative voice to preserve her relationship. But Gary's immediate breaking of this promise triggers something in Valene that many viewers will recognize—that moment when compromise becomes capitulation, and you finally say "enough." Meanwhile, Richard Avery's storyline offers an equally compelling examination of compromise gone wrong. A talented lawyer reduced to arranging escorts for his firm's clients, Richard embodies the soul-crushing reality of being valued for all the wrong reasons. His desperate attempts to reclaim his professional dignity backfire spectacularly when Marnie, one of his regular call girls, secretly records him discussing his arrangements. The televised exposé leaves Richard professionally ruined, scapegoated by the very company that demanded these services. The episode brilliantly captures how we sometimes find ourselves trapped in stories not of our making. As our characters discover, you can make accommodations, follow the rules, even stand up for yourself when things go too far—and still end up paying the price. What would you sacrifice to tell your truth? Or to reclaim your dignity? These questions linger long after the credits roll. Ready to dive deeper into vintage primetime soap opera debauchery? Gamache, paying his ex-wife's attorney fees, an unknown figure for the third party parasite, Guardian Ad Litem and $8,395.00 for reopening a case (not William's idea) on the 365 Day Rule. On top of that, his ex has legal and physical custody with full decision making and first right of refusal. All of this documented in a 35 page order by Judge M. Kimmons at the taxpayer's expense.     Essentially they are trying to force/demand William to sell his home and imputed his income by three times a figure he has never made. But by morning, something is very wrong. Part 2: As an exchange student studying superconducting oxides, Karoline Mueller tries to save money by gold-coating a cheap crucible instead of using a solid gold one. Ro is an award-winning empanada eater with a penchant for storytelling. His credits include Prose of Pie, Tiny Tales, Story Boom, Story Collider En Español, and producing the Westchester-based 'Say Word' show. He is most remembered for his groundbreaking trio with his 14yr and 3 yr old . They've since broken up due to ‘creative differences'. When Ro isn't telling tales, he is a social justice warrior for human rights non profits. Karoline is the youngest of 4 siblings. Growing up in Germany, the family interests included music, art, nature, and building things. From fairly young, there was no question in her mind but she would study music and teach private music lessons. Her plan got smashed in the audition process and she was not accepted into a conservatory program. It took her some time to recover from this huge disappointment. In a relatively random way, she stumbled on the book, Urban Systems in Crisis, by a biochemist and network thinker and was fascinated by this new way of solving problems. She was reminded of fun chemistry demonstrations and enrolled at the Saarland University in Chemistry. Despite low confidence in her English, Karoline pursued a semester abroad and came to the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston. Delighted by the amazingly supportive mentorship at the center, she decided to return for her Ph.D. in Chemistry. She has been working there as researcher and student mentor ever since. Karoline's passion for science outreach grew over the years and now she takes great pleasure in organizing presentations and demonstrations of superconductivity.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
