In the late 1960s, a quiet Bavarian law office became ground zero for one of the most disturbing—and most documented—poltergeist outbreaks in history. Lights blew out. Files flew. Telephones rang with no one on the line. And a parade of baffled experts descended on the building, unable to stop weeks of escalating chaos. Was the Rosenheim case the result of a powerful curse? A witchcraft attack? A psychic meltdown? Or was someone inside the office secretly behind it all? Anne and Renata dig into the evidence, the suspects, and the strange events that still defy explanation. This is one of Europe's most unsettling paranormal mysteries—and it refuses to stay quiet. Unlocked Patreon episode. Support Ordinary Unhappiness on Patreon to get access to all the exclusive episodes. patreon.com/OrdinaryUnhappinessAbby and Patrick are joined by one of their favorite writers, Sarah Miller, to talk about her new essay in n+1. Entitled “Pirates of the Ayahuasca,” it's a first-person narrative, at once understated and devastating, hilarious and cutting, that sees Sarah, struggling with depression and grief, travel from wildfire-ravaged Northern California to the Peruvian Amazon for two weeks of psychedelic treatment under a prominent indigenous shaman. Sarah relates and reflects on her experience, her relationship with the shaman and his other clients, the business model of the “ayahuasca center,” and much more. Along the way, Sarah, Abby, and Patrick unpack broader narratives about therapy, ritual, and healing; the ways we metabolize feelings of guilt, sadness, and desires for change; the unavoidable context of capitalism, global inequality, and climate catastrophe; our expectations for psychedelics, our fantasies of transformative experiences, and what we can learn from plants. Ivy, Winter Witchcraft & The Discipline Spell In this month's November Witchcraft episode, we wander into the winding, enchanted world of ivy — a plant steeped in folklore, protection magic, and ancient symbolism. We explore its historical associations, its role as a guardian of thresholds and the many ways witches can weave ivy into their craft with intention and safety. From there, we move into the heart of herbal magic, looking at how to use herb blends in spellwork, ritual, energy cleansing, and winter-focused practices. Next we descend into the witch's winter arc, exploring why the darker months naturally call us into commitment, devotion and inner alchemy. We discuss the role of discipline as a spell, and how neuroplasticity supports your magical practice. We take a closer look at the anterior mid-cingulate cortex — a brain region connected to motivation, persistence, emotional regulation and the ability to choose discomfort for long-term transformation — revealing how science supports what witches have always known - Winter is for recalibration, rewiring, and rising. We finish the episode with a Ritual for Sacred Discipline, crafted to help you anchor devotion, strengthen your energetic sovereignty, and align your daily life with the witch you are becoming. Some stories are kept secret for a reason, and among the Diné, the figures outsiders call 'skinwalkers' is one of them.In this chapter, we examine how this subject sits within Diné teachings about witchcraft rather than monsters, why many details are not shared publicly, and how 19th-century accusations, modern reporting, and internet mythmaking reshaped the idea for the rest of the world. We separate community perspectives and documented history from hearsay and pop-culture distortion. To many, the Skinwalker is another Urban Legend, but to those who know its secrets, it is far more than that.__________________This week's mid-roll ad features 'Out There: A Cryptid Podcast', a show that follows Josh and his team as they dive into the world of cryptids, paranormal encounters, and unexplained phenomena. It started long before she was born — back when her mother's side dabbled in things they shouldn't have. Black magic. Witchcraft. Doors opened, never shut. Years later, she and her siblings were still dealing with it: toys moving on their own, shadows in the house, and a woman in white only her mom could see. Then they moved to Illinois. Behind the house sat an old, off-limits chicken coop. One summer night, camping in the yard, she looked up and saw a little boy staring at them from the coop window. No one else saw him. The next day, the kids snuck inside anyway — found old children's drawings, a strange box under the floorboards… and shotgun shells in a home where nobody owned a gun. Minutes later, she looked down and her leg was covered in blood — but there was no cut. Later, she heard the rumor: a boy who lived there went missing and was never found. Some hauntings don't fade — they follow the bloodline. #RealGhostStory #FamilyHaunting #GenerationalParanormal #GirlInWhite #HauntedFarmhouse #MissingChildSpirit #OccultBackfire #ParanormalKids #CreepyChickenCoop #Paranormal #GhostStories Love real ghost stories? In a time when witchcraft, crystals, and “spiritual energy” are being disguised as harmless or even healing, the call for believers is clear: seek the Creator, not the counterfeit. In this episode, we'll talk about the danger of chasing false sources of power and the beauty of finding everything we need in God alone.
In the first full-episode MFFI livestream, Duncan opens the spellbook on the roots of witchcraft and the modern movements keeping the magic alive. So grab your crystals (or your skepticism) and settle in for a tale of treacherous ale-wives, black cats, pointed hats, and centuries of persecution. From sacred symbols to sanitized stereotypes, this episode unpacks how witchcraft was vilified, commodified, and eventually rebranded. ~ Support the show by becoming a Midnight Minion, Menace, or Maniac, and unlock exclusive bonus content over at PATREON ~ Chat with fellow insomniacs and vote on episode topics via DISCORD ~ Join the Midnight Masses! Known for his extraordinary mediumship paintings, Brian bridges the worlds of art and spirit in a way few can. Through brush and color, he channels energy, emotion, and sometimes even messages from beyond, creating what he calls Energy Portraits — stunning visual reflections of the sitter's soul and spiritual essence. From the moment he picks up a paintbrush, Brian opens himself to the flow of intuitive energy. As he paints, impressions, emotions, and spiritual symbols begin to surface, forming a living portrait that speaks to both the seen and unseen. Each stroke becomes part of a conversation between the spirit world and the canvas. During our conversation, Brian explains how this process unfolds and how he first discovered this rare gift of translating spiritual readings into art. Listeners will hear Brian share stories of readings that deeply moved his clients — moments when departed loved ones or guides made their presence known through colors, shapes, and unexpected symbols appearing in the artwork. We also explore how his empathic abilities guide him in paranormal investigations and what it means to truly "see" energy around people and places. Beyond his spiritual art, Brian is also the founder of Into The Afterlife Paranormal, a team dedicated to investigating haunted locations and helping others understand the unseen world. His work combines the analytical side of investigation with the intuitive sensitivity of mediumship. He also talks about his books, including Into The AfterLife: Paranormal World and Strange Tales from the Unknown, and how writing allows him to document and share the mysteries he's encountered. This episode dives deep into how creativity and spirituality intertwine — and how art can be a powerful tool for healing and communication. Whether you believe in the spirit world or are simply fascinated by how human intuition works, Brian's experiences will leave you thinking about the unseen forces that surround us all. Join hosts Joe and Jen Shortridge as they explore Brian's artistic process, his encounters with spirit energy, and the messages hidden in paint and color. You'll also learn about his company The Final Nail, where he channels his artistic and spiritual vision into every project. Don't miss this extraordinary conversation that proves the veil between art and the afterlife is thinner than we think.

In this special Business of Woo-themed episode of The Skeptical Shaman podcast, host Rachel White (of TOTEM Readings) chats with friend of the show and world-famous Tarot Lady: Theresa Reed. Theresa is an award-winning author of MANY Woo-based books-- not to mention an illustrious content creator providing live weekly readings on Instagram. In this episode, Rachel and Theresa dive into the tricky para-social dynamics created by social media, podcasting, YouTubing and content creation as a whole, and how Woo-based business owners can (and should) maintain appropriate boundaries with clients, subscribers and listeners. Theresa does a great job explaining how enforcing these boundaries CAN come across as bitchy, rude or even a downstream effect of believing your own myth. But she also explains that we in the Business of Woo can't always manage the perceptions or reactions of others, so it's best to just stay focused and in our lanes-- and within our healthy, appropriate "container".The summary? Modernity is bringing an increasing rate of change, particularly with regard to technology and its downstream effects-- particularly as it relates to near-constant, 24/7 access and stimulation. As psychics, energy workers and Woo-centric content creators, we need our downtime-- and our space and silence! So, don't feel bad about holding the line in the war of constant communication. You don't always have to respond right away-- and, sometimes, you don't have to respond at all! Every year around this time, the spiritual atmosphere gets heavy, but that is exactly when God calls His people to rise in authority. I share how to stir up the anointing within you, push back against darkness, and pray with the kind of power that breaks strongholds. You will learn how to use resistance as fuel, activate the fire of the Holy Spirit, and take territory in prayer instead of retreating in fear. On the podcast, we have covered the Salem Witch Trials and other witch hunts in America and Europe. When we originally produced the Witches in America episode, we touched on a couple of the witch hunts that took place before the Salem outbreak, some Native American witches and then a couple of infamous witches, the River Witch of Marietta and the Bell Witch. We are still going to include some of that here, but the witch hunt material got a more thorough treatment in Episode 307, so we pulled that out. This Redux will explore some other witch narratives from America that we didn't cover before and update the material on the Bell Witch. Most of the people accused of witchcraft in the past, weren't actually witches, but that does not mean that there were not or are not really witches in America. Witchcraft has long been practiced in America and Wicca is an accepted religious practice in our modern era. Join us as we explore witches in America. Episode 390: When most Canadians think of occult-related witch trials, their minds drift south to Salem, Massachusetts, or across the ocean to medieval Europe. The popular narrative suggests that Canada, with its reputation for tolerance and peace, remained untouched by the supernatural hysteria that gripped other nations. This perception, deeply embedded in the Canadian consciousness, paints our country as somehow above the dark chapters of witch-hunting that stained other societies. Even Dark Poutine listeners, well-versed in the country's hidden crimes and forgotten tragedies, might be surprised to learn the truth. The reality is far different from this comfortable myth. Canada has a complex and largely forgotten history of witchcraft accusations, trials, and legal persecution spanning over 350 years—from the earliest days of New France to as recently as 2018. From demonic possessions in Quebec City to fraudulent psychics in modern Ontario, the Canadian witch trial story is one of fear, prejudice, and the persistent human tendency to blame the margins of society for inexplicable troubles.
