What is your current energy level? Are you tired? Do you feel worn out or run down? In this episode, I share three takeaways from reflecting on Isaiah 40 that offer hope to the weary.God is more aware of our weary state and the reasons for it than we ever could be.God’s power is inexhaustible, which is good news for finite and fallen people like you and me.Waiting on the Lord is less about time and more about trust.
In this episode, I give three reasons why I believe we should not only seek to know John 3:16, the Bible's most famous verse, but we should also seek to know the verses that surround it.John 3:16 is part of a much larger story. These verses show us the gravity of our sin. These verses show us the greatness of God’s love. Have you ever been in a conversation with someone where either you or the person you’re talking with awkwardly tries to share a verse of Scripture only to bumble through the wording? Or maybe you’ve tried to come up with a favorite passage to share with someone but struggled to remember where to find it? At best we are able to recall bits and pieces of Scripture, but really what we end up with is just the gist of the passage. With this podcast, I want to help people move beyond the gist. In this episode, I want to explore three ideas that will help us move beyond the gist in order to increase our familiarity with Scripture and to deepen our understanding of the Bible as we seek to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. What’s wrong with the gist? Why do we struggle to remember the wording of Scripture? What are some practical ways to begin to move beyond the gist?Links and Resources:Ten Passages for Pastors to Memorize Cold: http://bit.ly/2lvats5Habits of Grace: Enjoying Jesus through the Spiritual Disciplines, David Mathis: http://bit.ly/2mVjtaaESV Journaling New Testament, Inductive Edition: http://bit.ly/2l13F5kConnect on social media:Twitter: @beyondthegistFacebook: @beyondthegistInstagram: @beyondthegistbeyondthegistpod.com
