A podcast about people who live with the idea that failure isn’t fatal, rather it presents an opportunity. They live their life in such a way that they continue to rise up and overcome rather than become victims. They allow struggles to push them rather than define them. They live their life with heart and allow all opportunities to refine and change them. Join me each week as I meet with individuals from all industries and walks of life. Start on your journey of acquiring a growth mindset of inner strength and resilience!
Genius is defined as exceptional intellectual, creative power, or other natural ability. And yet so many of us equate the word genius to only a select population. People like Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Bill Gates, or Stephen Hawking. People that seem to have abilities or intelligence that we will never obtain. And yet what if we argued that though these individuals truly have earned the recognition and title of GENIUS, we too hold an exceptional intellectual, creative power, or other natural ability. We too are GENIUSES. But a significant key to discovering that brilliance or genius within us is setting our focus and “the bar so high that it takes a lifetime to pursue”.
Happiness. Such a simple word that many of us spend our life trying to find. As children we typically have exuberant happiness. We find joy in the small details, take time to smell the flowers, and laugh at our mistakes. And yet as we progress in our journey that happiness that we once had typically finds its way out of us. Struggle, disappointment, hardship, and sickness tend to beat that carefree happy nature out of us. And yet if we can find those moments to laugh, those moments to be cheerful, and those moments to be happy we will be better equipped to handle difficulty as it crosses our path. We will be better able to not just endure the journey, but we will truly be able to enjoy our journey. Each and every one of us has been born into different circumstances. We come into a home and are at the mercy of those who brought us into the home. For most of us the home we grow up into shapes us into the person we are to become. Some of that molding comes from loving parents or caregivers, but for some that definition comes from being put in a home where they are pushed to defy the odds and do differently than the pattern and example that they have seen. We become who we are because of the experiences and choices that cross our path. And yet for some born into adverse circumstances they find it difficult to break the cycle and defy the odds. They struggle to break the trap that they feel they have been born into and pursue greatness. So how is it then that we can pursue greatness no matter our circumstance no matter how many odds we must defy? How is it then we can become the small percentage that breaks the pattern, overcomes, and rises? How do we pursue greatness if our circumstances were far from great? Individual strength is a funny concept because true strength and resilience can not be developed until one has been tested. It may seem counterintuitive that true strength can not be found without resistance. But it is in these moments of resistance that one refuses to accept or comply and therefore prevents the action of failure. They may reach the point of exhaustion and what may appear to be failure, but the constant struggle against accepting or complying with what is, is where one develops that strength. That capacity to withstand the great challenges, adversities, struggles, and pressure of life. The ability to continue with the fight and demonstrate the intensity to push forward even when that load may seem far too big to bear. And yet without that load true strength could never be obtained. So why is it then that we associate the load negatively? Why is it then, we don't recognize that without resistance we can't find strength? How is it then that we begin to let resistance act as both our and our children's greatest teacher and how do we begin to welcome challenges as opportunities to develop that capacity to withstand the great force and pressures of life? Have you ever had that thought that you should do something more? Do something that truly allows you to demonstrate and even utilize your skills, talents, and abilities? Do something that you know you love? Have you ever pushed that thought to the back of your mind because you are too scared to even try? So many of us can relate to the idea that we are often paralyzed before we even begin. We don't attempt some of our best thoughts because we don't have all of the details ironed out and we are too fearful of having to learn on the go and potentially mess up along the way. However, some of the best products and outcomes come from the messy, unplanned, undetermined grind that is connected to success. Success comes from pursuing what we love and never allowing fear to take control. Success comes when we act on our thoughts and use what we know to take a leap of faith into the unknown. Our mental narrative is dictated by the events of our life story and at times we do not pursue our hopes, desires, goals, and dreams simply because something in our past paralyzes us from moving forward. We build walls around us and never seek to find a way around those walls because our past instills a sense of fear. The fear of making mistakes. The fear of not meeting expectations. The fear of making a fool of ourselves. The fear of simply taking a leap and heaven forbid epically failing. As humans we are scared of what we perceive as failure and rather than taking the risk, we let our past stop us from progressing. How much more capacity would we have to reach our potential if we broke down those mental walls and took the risk? Opportunities will always be there but the question remains, will you live in fear or live in action? Wrapping up yet another year comes with a feeling of renewal. It comes with a sense of opportunity and refresh. So many of us start the new year believing that absolutely anything is possible. After all, a new year means a new you, new chances, new choices, and new opportunities. And yet as the year progresses we tend to gravitate more to the thought process of I can't, I won't, whatever simply because as we face resistance with each new opportunity we draft a narrative that leads us to believe that what we thought was possible now is impossible. How much more power would we have if we carried this sense of renewal not just for the month of January, but each and every day of the passing year? How many more opportunities would we get to experience and live if we lived with the undenying belief that the choices we make will ultimately write our story? No matter where we have come from we have the power to make our own success. We write that success each day we make the choice to do so. Coming out of a season of gratitude, it is so easy to use that time to express gratitude for the year. Often we go through the day and forget to look for the glimmers of light until we get to a season that forces us to find them and then express gratitude. We cease to remember to find those glimmers and then be grateful. Especially during our darkest days, we often find that it is the most difficult to recognize anything that is going well for us. How different would our experience be during trials, adversity, and struggle if we looked for those glimmers and then expressed our gratitude for the things that have gone well or better than expected. In this episode we will discuss the significant impact that simply finding the good and expressing gratitude can do for us during some of the darkest places and lowest lows we will reach. In this episode we will be exploring the concept of persistence from a trained High Fitness Instructor's experience. Persistence is often one of the hardest attributes to exhibit during difficult experiences because we typically want what we want when we want it. Often we struggle to get to the end of the challenge because we feel so incredibly frustrated throughout the process and we lack the patience to recognize that going through the grind can be the ultimate teacher and refiner. Many of us are not willing to keep pursuing our passions when we are met with initial resistance and struggle, however through the unwillingness to quit, we become more persistent, more relentless, and ultimately stronger in our thought process and action. In this episode we will be looking at failure through the lens of someone within the Medical Field. What we invest our efforts in doing begins with the simple choice to actually do it. Such a simple phrase and concept and yet when we involve logic and emotions, it is often extremely difficult to see our passions and dreams come to fruition. If we involve our human naturalistic heightened fear of failure and inadequacy, allowing passions to dictate our course is next to impossible. And yet allowing passions to dictate our destiny is such a critical component in our individual process of growth and refinement. When we stay the course and allow our hopes, dreams, and passions to become a reality we develop an inner belief and strength that we can do it. The resolve that comes from this experience is one that better equips us for the next bump in the road or hiccup in life. In this episode we will be looking at failure through the lens of someone within the fitness industry. Whether you are new to fitness or fitness is something that your life revolves around, we can all connect to the idea that the strength obtained from strength training is far more than simply physical strength, but strength training leads to greater mental stamina and resilience. We all know that exercise is important. After all we are told pretty much from birth the importance of eating healthy and exercising, but so many of us don't recognize the power that fitness has on not only our physique and physical wellbeing, but also on our inner stamina as well as our mental and emotional well-being. In this episode we will be exploring the concept of health and happiness, and how our ability to reach the state of pure happiness even during challenges is directly linked to our physical, mental, and emotional health. Sometimes we fail to recognize that true happiness can only be reached by ourselves. We forget that we are the captain of our own ship and we are responsible for not only how we feel, but also what we do to make us feel that way.
In this episode we will be looking at failure through my own personal lens and perspective. Through this lens, I hope that we can connect to the principle that investing time in our physical well being will ultimately lead to investing into our mental well-being. That investment ultimately carries over to an increased mental stamina and strength in all areas of our life. When we invest time into getting physically strong we become mental strong and become more resilient to challenges as you will hear from my own fitness journey.
In this episode we will be looking at failure through the lens of someone within the education field. Whether you are an educator or know someone who is an educator, each one of us can relate to the idea that grit and pure resilience can dictate situations as either successes or failures. Sometimes the inner strength of character will be the thing that propels our actions forward. Other times keeping sight of our why other times our defined why becomes the reason we keep playing the game, as you will hear from Chris's journey as an educator.
In this episode, we will be looking at strength and resilience through the lens of starting and running a business. Whether you have your own business currently, are thinking of taking the plunge and starting your own business, or know someone who has their own business each one of us can relate to the idea that persistence and an attitude of I can and I will, can carry us beyond the point of failure. Among another idea we will look at is the principle of evaluation and the importance of evaluating the situations in our life so that we may make changes as needed to strike balance and harmony with all the hats we may wear. If we start all endeavors with the attitude that failure isn't an option and understand the importance of evaluation and adjustment, then when challenges arise we are more likely to muster the resilience to keep pushing, as you will hear from Jenn's cookie business journey.
In this episode will be looking at obstacles as simply roadblocks rather than ending points. We will be looking at failure through the lens of being a parent and the opportunities presented to overcome failure while raising children. Whether you have your own children or not, are a stay at home parent, or a working parent each one of us can relate to the idea how we perceive challenges represents whether or not we truly have failed. If we see them as opportunities we are more likely to muster the resilience to keep trying over and over, as you will hear from Keisha's parenting journey.
