Their stories reflect the complex migratory patterns that define Caribbean identity itself: birth in one nation, heritage from another, and contributions to a third.Most provocatively, Oliver poses an existential question gaining urgency as climate change threatens island nations: "How do we preserve who Bahamians were outside the physicality of the Bahamas?" This challenge demands innovative approaches to cultural documentation that honor indigenous and African diasporic traditions while embracing new technologies and platforms. By framing arts education as a form of Black radical thought, this episode reveals how cultural expression functions as political resistance and nation-building. The conversation ultimately demonstrates that art doesn't merely reflect Caribbean identity—it actively creates it, serving as both anchor to our past and compass toward our future.Keisha Oliver is Bahamian assistant professor of Art and Design at the University of The Bahamas, and a PhD candidate in the dual-title Art Education and African American and Diaspora Studies program at the Pennsylvania State University. As an artist-scholar whose research intersects heritage studies and arts pedagogy, Oliver's current work focuses on mid-twentieth century transcultural African diasporic art histories and archives. She currently stewards the Charles Blockson Collection of African Americana and The African Diaspora at Penn State and serves on several boards for arts organizations in the Caribbean and United States.     Slam the Gavel podcast, welcomes back Jessie Lake to the podcast. Jessie was last on Season 5, Episode 241. Today Jessie had an update on her case as well as a recording that was revealed to her of proof of  the forged hair follicle tests, "somebody did something here." To think that an important test could be forged to remove her first set of twins from her is egregious. Her lawyer NEVER provided the court this evidence while Jessie wasted $8,000.00 as her lawyer rushed her, gaslit her and told her he would subpoena until she paid him another $200.00.    Jessie did say that she is now on unsupervised visits for four hours, every other weekend. The girls are calling her "mom" but sometimes call her by her name, but they are also calling another woman, Keisha, "mom." Jessie suspects that the guardian is selling her daughters while letting this other woman raise them. This is child trafficking and child psychological abuse.     Continuing to fight to have her daughters back in her life is something Jessie will not stop fighting for and longs for the day that they are all together having a "normal" family life. General Hospital turned 62! And there was no money in the budget for even one or two clips! But there were still some nice moments, mostly led by the veterans--Laura, Anna, Sonny, Tracy. They've spent a lot of time in Port Charles, and Gia and Keisha thank them for their dedication! On the downside, Sidwell is back, and it looks like he might be front and center for awhile. Meanwhile, Jason really has his hands full being the pretend father to Sasha's baby, keeping Carly safe from her own bad decisions, and trying to persuade Sonny to agree to heart surgery. Prior to his current position, Marc was the Vice President of Development, helping to lead the launch of The Pilgrim’s Progress and iBible, a visual and interactive Bible app through Revelation Media. Dr. Drew Dickens is a leader, AI expert, and scholar who has contributed to the integration of technology, spirituality and faith-based engagement. He was able to combine those things when he founded Encountering Peace, an app that provides guided meditations in the Bible, and the Encounter Podcast. Dr. Dickens has also written a book called “Whispers of the Spirit: A 40-Day Guide to Intimate Prayer,” which will be available April 1, 2025. Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith is a board-certified internal medicine physician, an international speaker, a podcast host, and the CEO of Restorasis, a health and wellness consulting agency. Dr. Dalton-Smith is also an award-winning author and just released her book, “Being Fully Known: The Joyful Satisfaction of Beholding, Becoming, and Belonging.” She also is the host of the podcast, “I Choose My Best Life.” Keisha Toni Russell is a constitutional lawyer with First Liberty Institute, a legal organization that defends religious liberty. “I can't just sit there and watch life pass me by - I wasn't built for that,” says Keisha Robinson, a Brian Connection with this one. They first met when she ushered him to a seat at an AODA (Accessibility For Ontarians With Disabilities Act) round table event at King's University College, at Western for International Day For Persons With Disabilities. When, in fact, we have a more personal family/community connection to our first 2025 guest. Our first guest of the year and of February, Keisha Robinson describes herself as a social butterfly, now, but what was it that made her come out of her shell? She grew up with pain, was labeled “drama queen,” and with a diagnosis realised it all finally made sense. Keisha shares about her life lived (before and after) the progressively deteriorating muscular disease diagnosis she received as a teenager, about the umbrella of various symptoms and deterioration predictions and timelines of Muscular Dystrophy (MD, and the philosophy she has gained with her plans with work giving back to sick children in hospital and her study of disability. Robinson is working towards a double major in Childhood and youth studies and Thanatology—which is the study of death, dying, grief, and loss including all sorts of non-death losses. This week on Outlook we're learning more about her studies and discussing how to demystify loss and grief and normalise the open dialogue on these parts of life we all share. We explore the inaccessibility to be found out there (IE housing design) and hear about how it is to get around Western and King's University College as a wheelchair user, not to mention around the city she lives in, along with some of her tools for doing that. So while one host says he doesn't miss a friend he's never met, the guest might miss ice skating or swimming, while the other two hosts might miss seeing colours or video games and that's the cross-disability perspective in an example of a non-death loss we've been navigating grief over. The good news is Lulu is softening, and she and Dante are getting along. The bad news--Drew and Sidwell are back and as awful as ever. The only good thing about Drew is he seems to inspire those around him to become more interesting. Sidwell doesn't appear to have this effect on those around him. Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Gregory Green. Coaching and mentoring are in Green's DNA, and he concurrently serves as REACH Advisor and Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Tuskegee University. Since college, Green has been no stranger to hard work and has mastered being a student-athlete. He earned a Double Major in Psychology and Kinesiology from Winona State University and a Master's in Kinesiology from Ashwood University. He is the gold standard for any student-athlete. Gregory L. Green Sr. has been an intricate part of athletic success on and off the field since 1995. While cultivating his coach's acumen Green has humbly executed various roles in the collegiate athletic arena and has excelled in each capacity. Coach Green began his journey at Savannah State University in 1995 where he reveals that he is not just any coach. For the next four years this Cleveland native would serve as Defensive Coordinator for Football, the Judicial Affairs Coordinator, and the Head Men/Women Tennis Coach. Under Green the Women's tennis program flourished toting the following accomplishments: the highest team GPA in the SIAC four times; SIAC Tennis Champs three times; and three NCCA Tennis Tournament appearances. While at Savannah State Coach Green's prowess did not go unnoticed, he was the SIAC Conference Coach of the Year three of his four years there. Green's career would lead him to Tuskegee University in 2000 where he served as the Compliance Officer, Defensive Coordinator for Football, and the Head Men & Women Tennis Coach. While at Tuskegee for the next five years Coach Green's legacy of success still reigned true on the football field with a nationally ranked defense each year and four SIAC Conference Football Champs. This success was mirrored on the tennis courts with four SIAC Conference Tennis Championships; six NCAA Tennis Tournament appearances; five-time SIAC Highest Team GPA for Men and Women; and four SIAC Conference Tennis Coach of the Year. Green's prowess was recognized in house as well as he has also received Tuskegee's Coach of the Year Award.Green has touched various institutions as he has coached football at Winona State University, Kentucky State University, Texas Southern University, Alabama State University and Miles College consecutively. Green's Midas touch is ever apparent as he has been a part of eighteen championships as a player and coach earning him the name, “The King of Rings.” Coach Gregory L. Green Sr. continues to cultivate the lives of student athletes as he serves as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Support Service at University of Alabama at Birmingham since 2011.
