Discovery One Interior ambience — hey, we're back at the movies and inside everyone's favorite Jupiter-bound phallus rocket. This episode is mainly based on a composite of the internal Discovery-1 scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is primarily based on the circuit tests (about an hour and thirteen minutes) with some orchestra elements. Hal's not in this ambience, by the way. That bot creeps me out. My parents forced me to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey on the Home Box Office in the 1980s. I know how much everyone loves the Space Odyssey, but I was utterly coerced. “It's in space, like Star Wars.” “Is it actually like Star Wars?” My parents played that same “it's like Star Wars” sh!t with John Carpenter's the Thing, and I had spider-head nightmares for years.

Clarke, starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, and William Sylvester.Plot Summary: "2001: A Space Odyssey" is a visionary science fiction film directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on a story co-written by Arthur C. Clarke. Released in 1968, the film is an epic exploration of human evolution, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial encounters. The story begins during prehistoric times when a mysterious black monolith appears to a group of primitive hominids, triggering a significant shift in their cognitive abilities. Millennia later, in the year 2001, a similar monolith is discovered on the Moon's surface, buried beneath the lunar soil. Upon excavation, the monolith emits a powerful radio signal towards Jupiter. In response to the signal, a manned mission is launched aboard the spacecraft Discovery One, led by Dr. David Bowman and Dr. Frank Poole, along with three other astronauts in hibernation. The onboard computer, HAL 9000, an advanced artificial intelligence system, assists the crew throughout their mission. As the spacecraft nears Jupiter, tensions arise as HAL begins to show signs of malfunction and unpredictable behavior. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok (@gmoatpodcast) or find our Facebook page at Greatest Movie of All-Time Podcast. For more on the episode, go to: https://www.ronnyduncanstudios.com/post/2001-a-space-odyssey-1968For the entire rankings list so far, go to:Full Graded List - Greatest Movies of All-Time Ronny Duncan Studios

Whether you have your own children or not, are a stay at home parent, or a working parent each one of us can relate to the idea how we perceive challenges represents whether or not we truly have failed. If we see them as opportunities we are more likely to muster the resilience to keep trying over and over, as you will hear from Keisha's parenting journey.

Welcome back, Wolf Pack, to another Positive Cinematic Spotlight! Last week, we looked at Samwise's support of Frodo as he tries to destroy the key to Sauron, the evil all-seeing eye from taking over Middle Earth in the Fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings.” This week, we are looking at another evil eye, this time from the future; HAL-9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey. 2001 is a movie that addresses many themes and concepts, but one of the most memorable segments of the movie deals with the artificial intelligence, HAL-9000. Through HAL-9000, director Stanley Kubrik and writer Arthur C. Clarke explore mankind's fear of new technology. HAL-9000 is put into the Discovery One spaceship to maintain systems, but it starts to malfunction, leading to a confrontation between HAL-9000 and the crew who can no longer trust the AI. When schools had to adapt our teaching practices due to the Coronavirus, many of us had to take on a significantly different, technology based style. We were being asked to learn many new computer programs to deliver the educational content to students through the transmitting eye of a webcam. Interestingly, I recently heard a comment and was asked a question that many echo and show a concern about education's future. I was asked recently what I thought things were going to be like for the next 2021 - 2022 school year. I also heard from another teacher that there was a feeling of defeat after virtual lessons. Both within one week told me many of us are worried about the future and are unsatisfied with virtual teaching. But one thing I know is that as much as we would rather be in the classroom face to face with a full class, parents also want the return to traditional teaching. As a father I have children who struggle virtually, but excel in person, and children who are not hindered by virtual education… except when it malfunctions… like HAL-9000. I do think virtual teaching isn't going away, but I believe after the pandemic subsides, it will be greatly reduced and used to better accommodate student needs. Imagine not having to make up days cancelled due to inclement weather, because we can put assignments online. Students assigned to detention could avoid falling behind because we have work they can do online. We can see virtual schooling for extended periods of time doesn't work for everyone, but short spans of virtuality can help students to keep up and teachers to keep moving in their curriculum. We need not fear virtual teaching, but use it as an alternative to traditional when traditional isn't an option, or virtual increases student safety. If anything, people are learning how important it is for us to be in the classroom. Before, we were expected to be here. Now we are needed to be here. Being needed gives us influence. When Dave Bowman asks HAL to let him back in Discovery One, HAL respondes, “"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that!'" But our experiences with new technology, programs, and apps can now increase our ability to say, instead, “I'm glad to say I can do that,” When families and students ask for alternative solutions to accommodate their needs, But we have proven our importance both in the classroom, and in front of the webcam, and on the keyboard. It can be difficult and overwhelming trying to adjust to the increased technological needs, but we can adapt and incorporate these new tools to better reach more students. Just remember, a tool is useless without someone choosing to use it. They are here for us to use, not here to replace us. I want to thank everyone for all that you do for our students, and for being the best.

Have a movie recommendation?DM me on Instagram or Facebook: @themoviecommentarypodcastEmail me: themoviecommentarypodcast@yahoo.comIn the history of cinema, there are certain films that come along that seemingly define their genre. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for spaghetti westerns, Ben-Hur for the epics, The Shining for horror films, and so many more, but no film defined its genre better than the 1968 Science-Fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The making of 2001 is almost as interesting as the movie itself. In 1964, legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick met best-selling science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke. Together, they started working on a story that was based on a previous short story that Clarke himself had written. In a very unique development process, Kubrick made the movie as Clark wrote the novel.  Not only the writing process, but the filming of the movie itself was groundbreaking as well. Specialized sets had to be designed to give the illusion of being in space. Groundbreaking camera tricks were designed to help with the illusion. The special effects were the best of the time, and still somewhat hold up even today, including a special photography trick that gave us the most famous sequence in the movie. (Kubrick won his only Oscar for the effects on 2001) The story of 2001: A Space Odyssey is honestly too convoluted to be typed out in a few short paragraphs. It spans millions of years, beginning in the pre-man era of Earth all the way to the first year of the 21st century. There's feuding man-ape tribes. There's a space station and a moon-base. There's a mission to Jupiter. There's a malfunctioning (or not) computer. There's a bunch of stars. And in the middle of all of it, a big black rectangular monolith. How is all of this connected? In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite films: the 1968 epic science fiction film "2001: A Space Odyssey" directed by Stanley Kubrick who also produced and co-wrote the screenplay of the film with Arthur C. Clarke. The story of the film was inspired by a number of short stories by Arthur C. Clarke, most notably his 1951 short story "The Sentinel" - which depicts humanities encounters with mysterious alien monoliths that profoundly affect the course of human evolution, as well as the voyage to Jupiter by the spacecraft Discovery One to reveal the source of a mysterious alien signal. "2001: A Space Odyssey" is a film that is a masterpiece of cinema in so many ways and it is a film that truly redefined what a science fiction film could be, because it covers several themes - such as the evolution of humanity, artificial intelligence, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life - that continue to be contemporary because of the way that technology and the question of if we are alone in the universe continues to evolve and influence the lives of everybody on Earth. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

This One Mic Session is a Reboot of an idea I tried 2 years ago...but just like life, sometimes excuses clutter your vision and momentum to accomplish things. So, it's back to stay! The Dozen Months of Discovery.Part of the premise of the Just Get Started Podcast is to get out of your comfort zone and try to accomplish things far greater than you ever imagined. Whether it is changing your eating habits, a better fitness routine, starting a business, etc. At the micro level, everything you do has to be “started” at some point but are we truly pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones as much as possible and learning new skills or knowledge that can become valuable. Or, maybe it doesn’t become something valuable but you can say you tried it because it was interesting at the time. That’s okay, too. That, my friends, is the whole premise of the Dozen Months of Discovery.12 months to have 12 new adventures. This could be anything from committing to a workout plan one month to learning how to play the piano another, learning a language, or detoxing from Social Media. Whatever it is you have to invest time into it and you have to practice but more than that is your mindset and focus on accomplishing the challenge must be present everyday. We (and I certainly mean me) say over and over “I wish I could do….” Or “I wish I tried….”. As the old saying goes, “You can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which gets filled up first”. Stop wishing. Why not go out and do it? I know your answer. I don’t have time. It may actually take less than you think. Malcolm Gladwell famously wrote that you need about 10,000 hours to master a skill. But I’m not asking you to master a skill, I’m asking you to try and learn a new skill and become good at it. So, how long would that take?Well, someone already did that research for me and his name is Josh Kaufman. Now, Josh did a phenomenal Ted talk about this topic and, in short, concluded that to learn and be good at a new skill it would take about 20 hours. I highly recommend you watch the entire Ted Talk here – How to Learn Anything in 20 Hours - as it provides a lot more context. Also, Podcast Guest (Episode 76) Scott Young and his book "Ultralearning" is a fantastic guidebook of some useful techniques and stories to speed up your learning and actually make it sticky. So, the question I posed to myself a little while back and will pose to you right now is…How far did you advance yourself this past year? How much more could you have done that would have led to increased skill development, more fulfillment or joy in your life, new doors being open…all of it….How far did you push that needle? Get out of your comfort zone and try to make the next year your best year even. You certainly won’t get there by doing the same thing you are doing now. You must broaden your horizons and I think this is one way to do it.So here’s the challenge.Pick 12 new skills/challenges/topics you think would be cool or interesting or maybe something you always wanted to learn. If you can’t think of that many then ask your friends and family or post online and ask your larger community to throw out ideas.Next, write them down and share with the world those 12 you are going to learn. Finally, each month you need to pick a goal that will be the accomplishment you are trying to achieve by the end of that month. If you don’t pick a goal you can’t conclude if you truly learned anything. Don’t make it too easy but push yourself. Now, start with the first one on the first day of the next month and do it. Learn by taking classes locally, watching videos online, syncing up with a friend skilled in that craft, whatever. Invest around 20 hours that month and see what you can accomplish. I’m starting this endeavor on January 1st, 2020. My first monthly challenge is to not launch one social media app (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter) for the entire month. I'll document each journey prior to starting and the week after I finish each month. Some other ideas I have are Stretching for 1-hour each day for a month and learning a new language over the course of a month. The list is still getting worked out and look forward to any suggestions! If you are down to join, let me know and we can hold each other accountable. If not, we'll catch you for the next one and I'd love to hear what you are trying to do to challenge yourself and push beyond your comfort zone.........For more episodes of the Just Get Started Podcast visit https://www.brianondrako.com/ or Follow the Just Get Started Podcast on Instagram at @justgetstartedpodcast or Facebook https://www.facebook.com/justgetstartedpodcast To learn more about me and what’s going on in my world check out https://www.brianondrako.com/now/ or find me on Instagram at @brianondrako See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Qu'est-ce qu'une conversation vide? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARJ8cAGm6JE   « Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore.
