Listen to hear about two young entrepreneurs and their experience #figureingitout after graduating college. Both Emily and John took the nontraditional route and didn't get full time jobs after school. Jon now a year out of college reflects back on what he has learned in the past year and connects with Emily on the challenges she is currently facing. Bio: Emily Elizabeth Duong was born and raised in a very small town between Reading and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. From the age of 7, her life consisted of figure skating and at the age of 10, she picked up competitive tennis as well. Throughout her teenage years, she spent most of her time training in both sports, with a stronger focus in figure skating and committing to a schedule of waking up at 5am to skate before school. She was a two-time Keystone State Champion in both figure skating and tennis and ranked number 1 in Central Pennsylvania in USTA Junior Tennis in all age divisions. At the age of 18, she packed her bags and moved to Southern California on her own to begin college at UC Irvine before later on transferring to Chapman University. During her college career, she discovered her passion for content creation online and writing about self- improvement topics revolving around one’s mindset. In addition, she began her business Elite Skate Wear at the age of 17 and continued to scale and grow the brand while in school and continues to serve the skating community worldwide. Emily graduated in May 2019 with Cum Laude honors and a degree in Strategic and Corporate Communication and a minor in Entrepreneurship. She plans to continue to focus on scaling her business, podcast platform (Young & Ambitious), and pursue professional work in digital marketing or potentially law school in the near future.
