An actual-play D&D podcast made up of theatre majors and bisexuals, with less crossover between the two groups than you’d expect. Either way, players and characters alike blunder their way through perilous battles and podcast production in this collaboration between Petty Theft Podcasts and Maked with Good Intentions
Petty Theft Podcasts and Maked With Good Intentions
Hi everyone, this is Jono speaking on behalf of the entire Goofballs & Goblins team. You’ve probably noticed that we’ve taken some time off recently. This is in part due to the state of the world right now, partly because we still haven’t quite figured out remote recording, and partly because of recent events in the TTRPG community. We’d like to take this moment to properly address those events. As many of you may know, Wizards of the Coast, the company who makes D&D, let slip over a month ago that they were still working with Mike Mearls, who they had previously claimed was no longer employed by them in the TTRPG department. For those who don't know, Mearls was involved in enabling abuse within the tabletop community, in addition to further endangering abuse survivors by exposing them to their abuser. We firmly believe- and I cannot stress this enough- that Wizards of the Coast needs to fire Mike Mearls. When we initially wrote our statement regarding Wizards, this was the most recent news. We were still hopeful that they would appropriately and publicly address this failure on their part and work to rectify the situation. It was our belief that once that action was taken we could perhaps continue playing D&D with a clear conscience, and what’s more we planned to use this platform (however small it may be) to uplift and showcase indie creators making D&D content. I recognize now that that belief comes from a place of privilege and naivete, especially after this past weekend. On July 3rd, Orion D. Black, a Black nonbinary former Wizards of the Coast employee, posted a thread of their experiences working for them and the continual mistreatment they received during their time there. If you’ve not seen it or read it yet, their statement will be linked in the transcript for this recording on our website. (https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sra9pq) This was the last straw for a lot of people, ourselves included. After reading about the hypocrisy, toxicity, and unwillingness to change that Wizards has shown time and again (not to mention their deafening silence when it comes to #FireMikeMearls), we cannot in good conscience continue to play Dungeons and Dragons on this show. To do so would be to give our tacit support to them, and I speak for all of us when I say we do not now nor will we ever support this kind of behavior. So, what does this mean for Goofballs and Goblins? The details are as of yet unclear, but I can assure you that the Frighty Fellows’ story will continue using a different system as the medium. We have found several options that we will be privately trying out over the next few weeks. Once we find something that works for us as a group, we’ll transfer this story over and get back to bringing you the content of dubious quality that you’re used to. As for the several backlogged episodes that we hadn’t released before everything went down, we’ve decided as a group that we’re just not comfortable putting D&D content into the world anymore. But at the same time, it would be really hard to recreate three to four episodes of actual-play tabletop role-playing, so as a compromise, you can look forward to what I’m sure will be a sizeable and pretty bad plot recap of those episodes from me! We will have those out shortly before we begin putting out new content, which will be all brand-new starting fresh where we as players left off. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as we figure out our next steps. Hopefully we’ll continue the adventures of the Frighty Fellows real soon.
It's baby's first dungeon crawl, babey!!! And what would a potentially life-saving quest be if it didn't start with a visit to the one and only Reginald Pullyourselfupbyyour Moonsocks? Bad news: we have discovered a dead body. Good news: the dead body came with free dog! Last but not least, I've heard of saving the bees, but this is ridiculous.
You didn't think we would leave Pygmalion out of our down time interlude, did you? The Frighty Fellows' favorite fighter finally favors a fascinating subclass with a little arcane training and a lot of patience. Speaking of patience, thank you for bearing with us during the pandemic. It may be difficult or even impossible for us as a group to keep turning out full episodes on a weekly basis, but we will maintain as much of a regular schedule as possible and are determined to provide plenty of fun bonus content in between. Check the official Twitter @GnGCast for more.
We join the Frighty Fellows for a little dowmtime. A series of one-on-one vingettes both heartbreaking and sidesplitting give us all a deeper look at our heroes amidst all the action and adventure.
Our very first semi-canon bonus episode, and Theo's DMing debut! Don't forget to check our official twitter for a puzzle card so you can play along at home! Craig, Harmony, Piper, and a fourth character who is equal parts endearing and forgettable engage in a brain-twisting series of riddles and logic puzzles. Well, we know at least 3 of them get out alive.
Rude frogs, bitter exes, and a fungus-centric puzzles? Turns out this podcast literally has it all. Our would-be heroes secure a fresh source of drinking water in an unprecedented D&D move. Like literally this isn’t a mechanic that would ever work on paper. In this house we are NARRATORS FIRST, TABLETOP GAMERS SECOND. Wizards of the Coast can take it up with Jono and God.
Goat soap, party drugs, and a parrot that takes voicemail? Just another day of rise-n-grinding for our heroes five. Craig finds and shares some REALLY good soup. Piper has yet to master the art of tiptoeing. Harmony's mushroom and plant logs continue to grow. A stranger disrespects Tawny's textile trade. Pygmalion kills a man and has a crisis of faith-- not in that order. Quiet, please--don't wake the owlbears!
The gang tastes their first blood with a breath-taking 45-ish seconds of combat. A beast gets a scare, Piper is a bear, Moonsocks has seeds to share, and it finally seems like we're getting somewhere. Jono does his best to impersonate beloved, fan-favorite character Pygmalion, and Theo is told to make his episode descriptions "less biased."
The five of us go full Stardew Valley on this bitch as we set out to find three important resources (food, water, shelter) and may find something even more valuable... friendship. OK, maybe we spend way too much time wandering around the forest playing I-Spy, but we're doing our best., I swear to god. Pygmalion struggles with conversation starters. Harmony got game.
In this first collaborative episode between Petty Theft Podcasts and Maked With Good Intentions, we meet our five would-be heroes as they apply to participate in the social experiment of the century. A mix of laughs and intrigue, this actual play D&D podcast will steal your heart. And that good, good, sponsorship money. ....We don't have any sponsors? Aw, fuck. I spent my student loan money on these dice.
