Send us Fan MailWelcome to you heard it hear last where we talk about news, you've already heard.Paizo is in the news again. But this time it sounds like good newshttps://www.enworld.org/threads/paizo-may-finally-get-its-inventory-back-from-bankrupt-diamond.720248/It seems that Paizo and Diamond Comics Distributors have reached an agreement to release millions of dollars of Paizo inventory they have held since January of 2025. Diamond Comics originally intended to sell the stock to pay their bills, but a flurry of legal activity brought that to an end. This agreement is a big deal for Paizo.I attended the Paizo address at GenCon and was very critical of the way it was structured. It was clear to me that Paizo built a wall to avoid having to talk about any of their financial troubles, but after this announcement it is clear that they couldn't because of this legal settlement.Mike, what does this news mean for Paizo going forward?[Kick to Mike]Christina, Will Paizo bounce back right away or will it take some time to get their stride back?[Kick to Christina]Up next is as they say, something completely different, and I think that is pretty cool.https://www.enworld.org/threads/classic-horror-dark-conspiracy-rpg-returns-using-traveller-rules.720279/The classic dark horror urban fantasy game Dark Conspiracy's is back and this time with a different rules system. Dark Conspiracy was originally printed by Games Designer's Workshop in 1991 and the setting was post-apocalyptic where the players were demon hunters facing off against an incursion of monsters in a near future world. The game has had three editions by three different companies, but the new version is being published by Mongoose and will be using the Traveller rules. That might be a first for me. I don't think I have seen the Traveller rules used to play anything other then Sci-Fi. I love Traveller so I think this is pretty cool. I only hope they keep the lifepath system.Mike, What do you make of this?[Kick to Mike]Christina, what about you, does this interest you?[Kick to Christina]And there you have it, all the news, you've already heard.

The Apocalypse Players — a Call of Cthulhu actual play podcast
In which our investigators go on a cobbled-road-trip with our favourite pub landlady, discuss what in the name of seven Montagues is going on in this “Whitby” gaff, and encounter something perhaps more deadly & terrifying than anything they have yet faced… A Call of Cthulhu scenario by Danann McAleer. Episodes released weekly. Cast: Dr. Henry Carraig-Muire - Joseph Chance Rev. Perregrine McCutcheon - Dan Wheeler Lady Helen Marjorie Bjarmia Potts - Dominic Allen CW: This podcast contains mature themes, strong language and cosmic horror. Human discretion is advised. The Apocalypse Players is an actual play (or live play) TTRPG podcast focused on horror tabletop roleplaying games. Think Dimension 20 or Critical Role, but fewer dragons, more eldritch horrors, and more British actors taking their roleplaying very seriously (most of the time). We primarily play the Chaosium RPG Call of Cthulhu, but have also been known to dabble with other systems, most of which can be found on our Patreon: www.patreon.com/apocalypseplayers We now have a free Discord server where you can come worship at the altar of the Apocalypse, play Call of Cthulhu online, and meet like-minded cultists who will only be too eager to welcome you into the fold. Characters are the lifeblood of TTRPGs, without them, there is no game, and most importantly, characters are what make a TTRPG game actually good. But does that mean all you need is some kind of Joe to play? Not reallyCharacter Concepts are the Outline of your character, they're a phrase, an image, something that really sparks that idea of the character for not just you, but mainly you! But how do we come up with good concepts? Inside the D&D side hustle that's really a masterclass in building AI systems that pay you back. Make money online by selling AI-generated D&D campaigns: Learn how tabletop creators use a two-pass AI content creation workflow to build balanced, ready-to-run 5e campaigns and monetize them on Patreon—a proven digital product side gig that takes hours, not months. This episode breaks down the prompt structure, explains why DMs buy convenience content, and shows the specific market opportunity overlooked by most AI entrepreneurs. https://DarkHorseEntrepreneur.com This episode explains how tabletop RPG creators are using a two-pass AI workflow to generate balanced, ready-to-run D&D 5e campaigns quickly and monetize them through Patreon, arguing this is an overlooked micro-business. It outlines why DMs buy convenience content, cites a growing market for pre-built campaigns, and shows a detailed prompt structure that uses official encounter-balancing formulas plus a second refinement pass in another model to improve balance, pacing, and coherence. It emphasizes that success depends less on content creation and more on repeatable systems, subscriber acquisition and retention, and audience-building via TikTok/YouTube Shorts, including using subscriber requests to drive loyalty. It also describes higher-paying customers (streaming DMs), backend monetization through licensing to publishers and marketplaces, risks from shifting AI behavior requiring documented prompts and quality gates, and a potential future SaaS tool that could disrupt Patreon sellers. 00:00 AI DnD Side Hustle 01:18 DM Pain And Demand 02:18 Encounters Are Algorithms 03:06 Base Prompt Blueprint 04:08 Specificity And Constraints 04:48 Two Pass Quality System 06:08 Patreon Content Calendar 07:25 Retention And Requests 08:36 Premium Streaming Clients 09:51 Marketing Reality Check 11:03 Patreon As Funnel 12:17 Scaling And Version Control 13:13 SaaS Disruption Angle 14:06 Build Moats With Systems 15:00 System Over Content 15:50 Whiskered Wisdom 16:42 Action Step 17:23 Wrap Up AI side hustle, Make money with AI, Patreon subscriptions, licensing, SaaS, ChatGPT business ideas, prompt framework, generating D&D campaigns, AI content creation, campaigns, NPC stat blocks, encounter modules, D&D campaign generator, tabletop RPG, make money online, TTRPG, Dungeons & Dragons, D&D, Roll20, D&D Beyond, Wizards of the Coast, Patreon, ai automation business, online side hustles, business motivation, work from home, business mindset, entrepreneur motivation, entrepreneurship, ai content creation, side hustle ideas, entrepreneur mindset, business tips, how to make money online, make money from home, ai automation agency, AI, AI Tools, ai entrepreneur, make money online, side hustle ideas, make money from home, online side hustles, AI start up ideas, entrepreneur, ai business https://DarkHorseEntrepreneur.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. With Cho operative Grant Holliday firmly in custody, Team Meatbag looks for a safe location to engage in a little interrogation. Hopper presents an idea. It's an interesting idea. It's a concerning idea. We cannot stress enough that it's an idea that leads to a potentially distressing series of events that make words like salsa sound downright wholesome. Join us as we discuss degrees of pacifism, some tools you can use to play these characters, and why these characters - more than most - especially need a Session Zero discussion. Send us Fan MailNormally we'd all be sitting around the microphones, arguing over games, movies, roleplaying, and whatever other rabbit hole we decide to wander down. But this week... well... life got in the way in the best possible fashion. We went to Gen Con.You know, there are some places that just have an energy all their own. A baseball stadium on Opening Day. Walking into Disney for the first time. Maybe your favorite band's concert before the lights go down.Gen Con has that same feeling. But for many of us our favorite time isn't actually when the convention is packed. It's setup day.You walk through those giant convention center doors and everything is buzzing. Forklifts are backing up. Pallets of games are everywhere. Booths are half-built. Someone is hanging banners thirty feet in the air while somebody else is frantically looking for a roll of duct tape they swore they packed. The halls are busy...But they're not crowded. Not yet. That's the strange part. You've been here before. You know exactly what these halls are going to look like in less than twenty-four hours. Right now you can actually see the floors.Tomorrow...You won't.Tomorrow every aisle will be shoulder to shoulder with gamers, collectors, cosplayers, families, creators, publishers, artists, dice goblins, card sharks, miniature painters, and people carrying bags that somehow weigh more than they do.You know it's coming. And everyone setting up knows it's coming too. That's what makes setup day so fascinating.Every booth tells a story.Somebody spent years making the game sitting on that table.Someone mortgaged vacation time, emptied a savings account, drove across three states, or spent months designing artwork just hoping people will stop, smile, and say..."Tell me about your game."That's where we are this year.Over at the Oddfish Games booth we've got a whole table full of products we're proud of. Adventure Scents. How to RPG With Your Cat. Cooking with Dice. Radiance. And this year...Leviathan Rising. It's Christina Stiso's brand-new roleplaying game, and we've poured an incredible amount of time, creativity, testing, rewriting, and plain old worrying into getting it ready for people to experience. And that's the thing about Gen Con.Hope.Every publisher hopes people stop at their booth.Every game designer hopes someone sits down to play.Every artist hopes somebody notices their work.Every creator wonders..."Did we make something people are going to love?"You don't really know. You can playtest for months. You can have friends tell you it's great. You can polish every page until you're convinced you've found every typo. But none of that answers the only question that really matters. Will complete strangers care? That answer doesn't arrive until Thursday morning.Ten o'clock. The doors open. And then...It happens.Thousands...and I mean thousands...of gamers surge into the exhibit hall. They actually have a nickname for it.The Running of the Nerds. And I say that with absolute affection. It's glorious.People aren't running because they're escaping danger. They're running toward games.Toward their favorite publishers.Toward limited editions.Toward demos they've been waiting all year to play.Toward that one booth they've had circled on their map for six months. It's one of the happiest stampedes you'll ever witness. There's nothing quite like it.Because for four days, Indianapolis becomes the center of the gaming universe. Now, because Gen Con has a funny way of consuming every waking hour we had planned for recording, we didn't have time to put together a traditional episode this week.So instead...I grabbed a couple of microphones.I wandered the convention.I cornered my co-hosts.I talked with friends.I chatted with designers.I may have accidentally eavesdropped on a few conversations that were just too good not to share. What you're about to hear is Gen Con as it really happens. Not polished. Not scripted.Just real people experiencing one of the greatest gaming conventions on Earth. We're going behind the scenes. We're getting first impressions. We're talking to people while the excitement is still fresh. And that's where we're going to begin. Our first guest is someone pretty special to us.He had just finished playing one of the very first public games of Leviathan Rising. The dice had barely stopped rolling. The adrenaline was still there. The story was still unfolding in his mind. Before he had time to overthink anything, we handed him a microphone and simply asked..."So... what did you think?"Here's his immediate reaction, recorded just moments after the game ended.

The Apocalypse Players — a Call of Cthulhu actual play podcast
In which two men in a smoking-room are talking of their their private school days… (This episode is meant as a classic ghost story in many ways, but one which adds directly to the narrative of An Uncommon Burial - and which also acts as a form of "recap" for the previous connected scenarios 'A Christmas Inheritance', & 'A Residence at The Bay' [along with the already published first section of this scenario], so... SPOILERS, I guess) A Call of Cthulhu scenario by Danann McAleer. Quick pivot to play a recommended one-player one-shot of Tiago Junges' Ronin, recommended by this month's Perspective Checks guest Cezar Capacle! Ronin is a solo TTRPG that was the mechanical and framework precursor to the excellent NOTORIOUS & OUTSIDERS which I played on this podcast. You play the part of a Ronin, a masterless samurai of Sengoku period Japan on a journey to achieve your goal. I condensed what could have been a whole series into one hour, but I highly recommend you play this game and let me know how your story goes! I want to play more of it now, and I already have the successor to Benjiro, Little Bear Ronin to do it with :) Get Ronin (for FREE) here! and now I want to check out Shinobi - an expansion for Ronin! ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord channel! and Get in on playing some Wicked Good Adventures!
