Andreas joins Chris Pramas, Jenn Ellis and Keith Baker, GMed by Brett King. So yes, Andreas is playing D&D in Eberron with Keith Baker, the creator of Eberron. Not daunting at all, not in any way...We're normally an actual play podcast where professional actors play the best of Swedish RPGs published in Swedish! But sometimes, Andreas does interviews with other people from the ttrpg community. This time he joins a D&D Eberron oneshot!Music by: Andreas Lundström
One of the easiest ways to make your campaign and your setting feel real, immersive, and unique is by taking away the certitude that magic is always going to act the same way. This mysterious, world-altering energy should not ever be completely understood by your characters, as the discovery of it is a big part of the fun.In this episode, Tony, Chris, and Dave sit down to respond to a listener question about their homebrewed idea of making magic work differently in different areas of their world. They ask how we might approach it in our ever-growing, crowdsourced Boomtown campaign setting. 1:35 Our listener question from The OMG Father, Wyman!3:15 Simple ways to approach making magic change, altering Difficulty Classes and Damage output.4:15 DM Chris harkens back to the Green Lantern Corps and leans into our use of Components as trackable resources.6:05 How DM Dave altered magic in the world in our recent Dragonlance campaign.8:05 Making the zones of magic random, and DM Chris' concern of specifically targeting arcane casters.10:25 Motivating players to adventure by seeking tech.12:12 Employing more narratively focused elements by having the player and DM work together to create something new.16:45 Leaning into the resource management for spellcasting.21:45 Allowing the tech to be utilized by any character. A Gunslinger with a Staff of Healing? Why not?25:25 Good stories come from the characters having to struggle. Always beating the monsters is fun in a one-shot, but makes for a really boring campaign.26:35 DM Tony asks what the tech looks like in Boomtown?31:10 Charging up mundane tech… the Battery of the planet Oa and bringing in a usable Craft Item skill.35:50 Final Thoughts.
It's Unfathomable! That's our game for today and it is a tough one! Can our players make it to port safely, or will they be dragged into the depths by Lovcraftian monsters? And who amongst them is the traitor? Plus, we talk cartoons and Muppets.
Welcome to the Jaunty Mantis Mothership RPG Actual Play series! This is Part 2 and the chilling conclusion. Mothership is a sci-fi horror tabletop roleplaying game focused on survival, panic, and cosmic dread. Previously, the crew boarded a long-lost colony ship that vanished three centuries ago with 1,000 souls in cryosleep. Fired from a massive railgun and tasked with offering a corporate “resettlement package” to any survivors, the team quickly realized that this derelict ark holds more questions than answers. Strange behavior. Failing systems. Missing time. And when one crew member disappears without explanation, paranoia has begun to set in. Scenario by Rich Ranallo (Velvet Generation, 69 Card Game) Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/signal-interruption/1067942740

You know how every +1 sword in 5e feels like it came off the same enchanted assembly line? "Congratulations adventurer — your reward is… statistically adequate." This week, the crew grabs a metaphorical chisel, carves glowing symbols into that boredom, and asks: What if your weapon didn't just hit harder — what if it screamed cosmic philosophy while doing it? From axiomatic swords enforcing universal order to anarchic axes overthrowing alignment conventions, we dive into Pathfinder 2e rune system mechanics, shamelessly loot them for D&D 5e magic item customization, and then escalate into tone-bending chaos where you might play villain henchmen or survive horror scenarios for fun. Because nothing says "balanced campaign design" like rewriting metaphysics with Nordic graffiti and then handing the party an axe that hates bureaucracy. Show Notes In this episode, the RPGBOT crew examines one of tabletop fantasy's most persistent mechanical gripes: magic items in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition often feel numerically incremental rather than creatively transformative. The discussion pivots toward Pathfinder 2e's rune system, positioning it as a compelling model for deeper customization through layered item enhancement rather than static bonuses. The hosts unpack the distinctions between fundamental and property runes, emphasizing how property runes add unique mechanical effects to weapons and armor, producing gameplay that's both expressive and modular. They explore how these mechanics could be translated into homebrew D&D campaigns, addressing balance through level-based restrictions, rarity adjustments, and vulnerability considerations. Attention shifts toward practical experimentation — allowing multiple runes per item, adjusting enhancement bonuses, and porting armor runes to broaden defensive options. The conversation also touches on systemic design trends like emerging magic item pricing guidance in OneD&D, which could make cross-system adaptation easier for DMs. In true RPGBOT fashion, the episode expands beyond mechanics into narrative structure: The crew suggests using rune-inspired item shifts as gateways for tonal experimentation, recommending session-zero communication, short tonal arcs, villain-perspective one-shots, or survival-horror side stories to re-energize campaigns. The result is an episode that blends TTRPG system design analysis, cross-system mechanical hacking, and campaign tone strategy, demonstrating how rules innovation can reshape storytelling possibilities at the table. Key Takeaways Standard D&D 5e magic item mechanics often rely on numeric scaling rather than narrative identity. Pathfinder 2e rune mechanics provide modular item customization through layered enhancements. Property runes introduce unique combat and thematic effects beyond simple bonuses. Use level restrictions and rarity mapping to maintain balance. Experiment with multiple runes per item for player agency. Extend rune logic to armor for broader gear diversity. Price transparency (e.g., OneD&D item costs) supports homebrew adaptation. Rune mechanics illustrate modular system design principles applicable across TTRPGs. Discuss tonal changes openly with players before implementation. Run experimental arcs or villain POV sessions for variety. Horror survival scenarios can reframe player motivation and stakes. As they enter the plains they see a swarm of butterflies, which offers a moment of peace after Eight's loss. The pair set up camp after a long day's travel and reminisce about their journey with their former companion. Cela even joins in and shares the full story of the incident in Isha. In the morning, they are awoken by the sound of horses and people. They find that Indy & Co, sans Indy, are returning from the fortress with a contingent of the Sultan's army. They learn that, thanks to their connections, Indy & Co. were able to convince the Sultan to help them and raided the fortress while the party dealt with Erdir. The children were able to be saved but the Emperor somehow escaped. The pair join the contingent for a time, separating at Duskhollow, and eventually use the teleporter to get to Eulela. They travel from Kidohlva, ransacked and evacuated, to Liam's manor near the remains of Pineview. As they draw close to their ally's home, they spy a group of guards escorting an elf in a cage.Follow Dax @gmdax, Kappa @TheKappaChris, Sebastian @sebastianyue and Wren @ThornyDryad EPISODE CREDITS: Produced by DaxOpening theme music, editing and mixing by WrenLogo Artwork design by JessieCharacter Artwork design by RiyuskiSegment music and sound effects licensed through Epidemic SoundLINKS:Be sure to follow and tag Roads Uncharted on Bluesky!

Three more goblins step from the shadows, their bows raised.”Bob who was playing a first level fighter smiled. “This is perfect. Four Goblins against our Four 1st level characters. Let's Do This! I charge forward with a war cry.”20 minutes later as the players all sit in disbelief, their characters dead or dying with no possibility of survival. “What the hell just happened” they mumble as they start working on new characters. What happened is that no matter what the book says about Challenge Ratings, there is no such thing as a balanced encounter. On this episode Mike, Christina and I are going to talk about Balancing Encounters in your games. Why there is no such thing as a balanced encounter and the difference between a Roleplaying and Gaming at the table.Mike, this is your favorite thing to say, so why don't you kick us off.[Kick to Mike]Christina, you are heavy on the story telling side or what I like to call Roleplaying. I know you believe that the only way to balance encounters is between your ears.

Prep is an essential part of the TTRPG hobby, at least for one side of the GM Screen. DMs need to prepare for their sessions and some DMs prepare a lot of stuff while others just wing it. We talked about that before, however we didn't talk about one thing, the way prep can lead to GMs railroading their players and controlling the game...Can that actually happen? How does it happen? What do we have to say about that? All of that and more is covered in this episode of DoubleDM.Check here for all further information:You can find us on the Web under these Links: https://www.doubledm.com/ https://bsky.app/profile/doubledm.bsky.socialhttps://www.instagram.com/doubledmpod/?hl=de https://ko-fi.com/doubledmIf you want to reach out to us via E-Mail use: doubledmpod@gmail.comOur Midroll Music is "Midnight Tale" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Our Outro Music is "Ascending the Vale" Kevin MacLeod (imcompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Hosted on Acast.
