IAHH's Doni Brasco speaks to Niquelle LaTouche (Head Of School) and Jonzi D (Artistic Director) from 'Academy Breakin' Convention'. Based at Sadler's Wells recently developed fourth venue in East London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Academy Breakin' Convention is the ABC of hip hop theatre, offering a full-time further education programme for creative and talented 16 – 19 year olds. Academy Breakin' Convention will cover the foundations of hip hop ensuring graduates are well versed in all ABC elements: Breaking, DJing, Emcee, Graffiti, Music Production, Popping and Hip Hop Social Dance. ABC will provide global perspectives of the socio-economic studies around the communities that create hip hop with a focus on creating theatrical performance.
We are joined by the dancing extraordinaire Dickson Mbi. TalkIING about his life and inspirations behind his upcoming piece Enowate at Sadler's Wells on October 14th & 15th 2022. “A dancer of extraordinary power and grace, Dickson Mbi summons multiple identities in this mesmerising solo performance inspired by a life-changing journey to his ancestral home in Cameroon. The symbolic presence of a two-headed snake, the tiger whose roar vibrated as part of a funeral ritual, the knowing touch of a blind elder…it was these unnerving encounters that profoundly affected the London choreographer during a recent trip to his family's village. They have all brought him closer to the animistic practices of his African heritage and to the mystical place where they meet with his modern East End upbringing. Enowate, meaning ‘truth stands', draws on sinuous elements of hip-hop and contemporary dance in combination with original music and otherworldly animated projections. In asking the relatable question, ‘who am I?', he connects with enigmatic forces to reveal himself and emerge from the shadows.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Links | Sadler's Wells | https://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/dickson-mbi-enowate/ Website | https://www.dicksonmbi.com Website | https://www.akramkhancompany.net/company-profiles/dickson-mbi/ Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/dicksonmbi/ Twitter | https://twitter.com/dicksonmbi ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi...Creativity Link Tree | https://linktr.ee/hicreativity ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I Am Hip-Hop Web | https://www.iamhiphopmagazine.com Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/iamhiphopmagazine/ Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/Iamhiphopmagazinelondon Twitter | https://twitter.com/IAmHipHopMag1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Definite Mass [Instrumental | Anniversaire | Produced by | Definite Mass] Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/defmass/ Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/DefiniteMassMusic Twitter | https://twitter.com/definitemass
