In this one, Cody talks to Dan Egan, better known as IG. In 1986, he started IG Boarding Shop. At the time, he was competing in big wave surfing, but there really wasn't much money to be made in it. So, he thought, instead of trying to be in the contests and scraping by, maybe he'll just make surfboards for all surfers he knows. His surf shop soon blossomed into a full retail store and for 25 years IG made and sold his own surfboards, skateboards and snowboards. In total, he hand-shaped about 4,500 surfboards, thousands of skateboards and about 1,500 snowboards.   But what he really wanted was to make enough money so that he could go surfing and snowboarding. So, every year he would take weeks and months off work to ride. And as snowboarding got bigger, IG found a new place to explore: Valdez. Those early days of riding Thompson Pass saw heli rides for as low as $15, $20 and $25. It was a common occurrence for anyone riding that area at that time to get a first descent. And they were doing it with no guides. They'd ride mountains all day long — Diamond, Python, Stairway, Hog's Back, Billy Mitchell — and then party all night. It was a wild time, on and off the mountains.   And in the middle of all this, IG, along with my dad, Scott Liska, were pioneering surf spots out of Resurrection Bay. At the time, most everyone they talked to about surfing in Alaska told them that it was impossible, it was just too cold. But they were determined. IG tells the story of the first time they found surfable waves out by Latouche, Elrington and Montague islands. It was IG, my dad and Giles and Sebastian Landry of Turnagain Hardcore and the waves were barreling. My dad checked the fish finder for depth and water temperature. It was a little cold for the wetsuits they had, but they jumped in anyway. The first wave IG caught was a triple barrel. It was only about a foot overhead, but it barreled right over the rocks. Over the next couple of years, they would find about 25 surfing spots.   IG says that his outlook on life comes from his relationship to surfing. That the unique thing about surfing is you have to trust your own judgement — to be optimistic — because you're relying on so many unpredictable things — the weather, the tide, the wind, the swell. Because when you paddle out to the spot, sometimes it's flat, so you hope and you dream that it starts pumping and a perfect wave is on its way to you, in that specific spot. That's the hope IG carries with him throughout his life. When he was just a kid with the idea to start a surf shop, when he came to Alaska because he heard Valdez was the North Shore of snowboarding, and then when his shop closed after 25 years of business and he transitioned to the weed industry.

LaTouche, Burford (Bill) III, 74, of Sandston died peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2023. He was mostly retired as Senior Vice President and salesman from Momar, Inc. He was predeceased by his parents Burford LaTouche, Jr and Honey LaTouche. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances Asher LaTouche; two daughters Katherine Poarch (Jacob) and Anna Otey (Frankie) both of Sandston, VA and his brother, Dr. Thomas M. We simultaneously profiled gene expression and chromatin accessibility in 45,549 cortical nuclei across 6 broad developmental time-points from fetus to adult. We identified cell-type specific domains in which chromatin accessibility is highly correlated with gene expression. Differentiation pseudotime trajectory analysis indicates that chromatin accessibility at cis-regulatory elements precedes transcription and that dynamic changes in chromatin structure play a critical role in neuronal lineage commitment. In addition, we mapped cell-type and temporally specific genetic loci implicated in neuropsychiatric traits, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Together, our results describe the complex regulation of cell composition at critical stages in lineage determination, serve as a developmental blueprint of the human brain and shed light on the impact of spatiotemporal alterations in gene expression on neuropsychiatric disease. Synopsis On today's date in 1956, one of the most successful of all American operas had its first performance at the Center Opera House in Colorado. “The Ballad of Baby Doe” was created by composer Douglas Moore and librettist John Latouche, and was based on a real-life tale of love and loss that had played out in that state. Elizabeth McCourt Tabor, better known as “Baby Doe,” became the second wife of the Colorado prospector, businessman, and politician Horace Tabor in 1883. Tabor's messy divorce and remarriage to the young and beautiful Baby Doe was a major scandal at the time. Tabor was immensely wealthy, and had built an Opera House that bears his name and still stands in Leadville, Colorado, where he met Baby Doe. In 1899, Tabor had lost his entire fortune, and after his death, Baby Doe lived on in a poor miner's shack near Leadville, where she was found frozen to death in 1935. And it was on a cold winter's day – a year before the premiere of their new opera – that Moore and Latouche paid a visit to Tabor's Opera House in Leadville, and stood on its stage for inspiration. A witness of their visit recalled: “I was intensely aware of a great and eerie silence that suddenly came over the building. Rashad LaTouche (@rlatouch_rmt) is a massage therapist, educator, and coach located in Toronto and the GTA. Rashad played football at Laurier University before pursuing a career as a massage therapist. He treats clients all over the GTA both in clinic and in home. Massage therapy is often misunderstood. It's not lathering up with scented cream and someone just rubbing your neck for 15 minutes. It's a form of manual therapy requiring extensive education and a high level of care. Rashad and I spoke about this throughout the episode. It's important to understand this so that you know how massage therapy might fit into your care, and how you can best utilize it. With massage, and any manual therapy, there is a level of home care that's needed. If the therapist could do everything for you, they certainly would. But they can't come home with you, so there's a level of responsibility needed to keep up your end of the recovery process. We discussed some of the thought process behind this and how to best implement them. Bear in mind, everyone's home care should be individualized and overseen by their practitioner. This also led into regular maintenance recovery tools like theraguns, ice and heat, foam rolling and other tools. Similar to almost anything, the individualized approach is best. Massage and your personal care is no different. What works for you may not work for me, and vice versa. We spoke about strategies to find the best methods of care and lifestyle choices that could suit you. Hopefully this sparks you to consider what you're doing, and make some important changes. Rashad and I worked closely together at a gym in Toronto in what feels like a previous life. One day soon we'll get the “Cafe Dell” crew together for a fun story telling podcast from those days. Pierre Cesarini et Julien Latouche - Portraits d'entrepreneurs avec Stéphane Soumier et B Smart

Émile Deschamps de Saint Amand, dit Émile Deschamps, né le 20 février 1791 à Bourges et mort le 23 avril 1871 à Versailles, est un poète français. Deschamps avait déjà composé quelques poésies et écrit, avec Latouche, deux comédies, dont l'une, Le Tour de faveur (1818), avait eu beaucoup de succès, lorsque se produisit le mouvement romantique, dont il devint l'un des premiers représentants. Il fonda en 1824, avec Victor Hugo, la Muse française, à laquelle collaborèrent Vigny, Nodier, etc. Il y inséra ses meilleurs morceaux de poésie et des articles de critique publiés sous le pseudonyme du Jeune moraliste. À part quelques livrets d'opéras et celui de la symphonie dramatique Roméo et Juliette de Berlioz, Émile Deschamps, poète élégant et gracieux, n'a guère écrit que des pièces isolées, des vers de circonstance, des nouvelles, des esquisses figurant dans une foule de journaux et recueils littéraires. Ses œuvres sont précieuses pour l'étude des mœurs et de l'histoire littéraire. Il avait publié en 1844 une traduction en vers de deux tragédies de Shakespeare : Macbeth et Roméo et Juliette. Il fait partie des 99 poètes qui ont contribué au Parnasse contemporain : le premier recueil (1866) comprend huit poèmes de lui, le second (1871), trois. Il fut plusieurs fois candidat à l'Académie française. Sa tombe se trouve au cimetière Notre-Dame de Versailles. Elle porte comme seule inscription : « Ci-gît un poète. » C'était le frère d'Antony Deschamps.

Les visites et contacts étant actuellement limités en physique, je vous le propose chez vous…Dans ce premier volet, le Proviseur M. Laurent Strupler ainsi que la directrice de l'Ecole Maternelle Mme France Dervaux se présentent à nous, et décrivent aussi bien la structure de l'établissement que ses possibilités. De 3 ans au BAC, on se soucie de la réussite de chacun : voilà le message général et rassurant.Les thèmes de gestion de crise sanitaire, comme ceux de l'inclusion, de la pédagogie générale, et je dirai surtout du Post-Bac et de l'orientation des élèves seront évoqués. Vous apprendrez aussi comment l'école a été fondée avec 9 élèves et une enseignante unique, et aujourd'hui ce qui fait son attrait. Cet épisode vous fait entendre ma belle et joyeuse rencontre avec Vincent Combe.Axé communication, Vincent continue d'apprendre à vie, il aime se diversifier… Nos points communs littéraires, d'études, et sur le professorat nous amènent à débattre. 2'40 : Vincent voit le littéraire comme un parcours pratique, et non pas détaché de la société. Vincent commence à entreprendre.3'15 : sur ses origines, il est fils et frère de professeurs, de chefs d'établissement, cela s'imposait de soi-même.Vincent rebondit sur le professorat pour ouvrir d'autres activités.4'00 : sa sœur Christelle et lui ont déjà parlé ensemble dans des colloques. On a des compétences naturelles quand on est enfant de profs, il faut trouver sa propre personnalité.5'00 : les méthodes et les voies d'un parcours littéraire. On apprécie les œuvres dans leur environnement historique, on apprécie l'analyse du schéma textuel, on lui donne de la valeur et on comprend ce qui fait une œuvre réussie. On apprend à parler des textes…On en apprend sur l'humain, par assimilation sur les personnages, ou bien de répulsion.6'20 : Les élèves ne comprenant pas l'utilité de la littérature, aiment retrouver les aspects humains. Vincent cite Mme Bovary, Bérénice.7'15 : Son sujet de thèse, a été trouvé de manière concrète, dans le Lagarde et Michard, un auteur l'intéresse et a été peu étudié : c'est un gain de temps et cela permet de mettre un jalon. Les récits sanglants écrits par les auteurs catholiques pour promouvoir la religion. Ce sont des nouvelles de revendication, de punition de criminels ou de mécréants. Le châtiment prend une grande part. La France risquait de devenir protestante, et ces récits ont été missionnés.9'50 : sur la littérature médiévale et son utilité pour les jeunes d'aujourd'hui. Pour Vincent, la part importante de ces récits est bénéfique, il s'agit de récits violents parfois. L'ancien français et le moyen français permet aux élèves de voir qu'ils s'inscrivent dans une langue en évolution, le français même ancien n'est pas une langue morte !11'00 : sur les thèmes de l'apocalypse, la catastrophe, l'actualité et les discours actuels peuvent être mis en perspective. Les fins du monde -il y a eu plus de 200 annonces de fin du monde- jusqu'en l'an 1000 c'est l'Europe qui était au centre de ces annonces. Cela a amené une dimension plus commerciale, plus tournée vers la jouissance de la vie, si les jours sont comptés. Au XX° siècle, les Etats-Unis prennent le relai des annonces d'apocalypse, avec les différentes églises et théories. Armageddon, les Mayas.13'00 : des humains pessimistes ? qui se libèrent du carcan des religions, de leurs craintes. Une conscience qu'on est à la merci de quelque chose qui dirige le monde.13'30 : les origines et le parcours de Vincent. Venant de Lyon, les mutations l'ont fait voyager en France, Vincent a dû s'adapter, s'est enrichi, il a rencontré beaucoup de monde. Vincent a des amis partout. Il a grandi dans les Alpes, garçon de la Montagne, puis a étudié à l'Université de Nice et salue ses professeurs. Sa carrière de prof a commencé à Paris, pendant 6 ans, puis 6 ans dans le Sud. Entre collèges et lycées, Vincent a souvent changé d'établissements.15'10 : Vincent arrive à Genève en 2012, souhaitant avoir un poste enrichissant, dans un établissement privé qui l'a bien formé sur l'examen de maturité suisse... L'institut Florimont, privé, a accepté sa candidature, il les remercie de leur confiance. Il y est resté 5 ans, il a trouvé un regard différent à la France, s'est senti considéré.16'45 : les attentes en littérature pour la Maturité sont très différentes de la France, cela traduit l'état d'esprit du pays : dans les pays anglo saxons l'approche est encore différente d'ailleurs.Dans le système français on se concentre sur la méthode et l'analyse du texte hors de son contexte. L'élève doit pouvoir le situer, en parler, disserter.Dans l'examen suisse il s'agit d'œuvres intégrales, et très axé sur la culture générale, ce qu'il y a autour du texte. Il faut tout connaître de l'œuvre pour l'oral. (dans le nouveau Bac on a aussi des œuvres intégrales désormais)La maturité Suisse demande une restitution empirique, transversale.Sur l'implication des élèves étant en gymnase, seulement 20% des élèves, cela fait une différence. Les universités suisses sont très prisées, et la Suisse augmente ses conditions d'accès aux étudiants étrangers. La langue du canton est aussi déterminante.19'30 : sur la reconnaissance de diplôme et de compétences, comment font les professeurs de l'Education Nationale française pour se faire engager en Suisse ?Vincent évoque son expérience, le Canton de Genève qui reconnaît CAPES et Doctorat, c'est une démarche administrative à faire. A creuser pour Zürich.20'25 : Dans le podcast d'Hortense on a évoqué que les professeurs sont employés par leur direction, ils ne sont pas en mission pour un Ministère contrairement à la France. Qu'est-ce que cela change de devoir se vendre ? Cette situation de mise en alerte sur la carrière impacte les professeurs sur des questions de choix, de mettre à jour leur CV, envisager l'établissement comme une entreprise les stimule sûrement plus ! Les établissements publics recrutent comme une entreprise. On doit prouver sa valeur, c'est un plus.21'50 : pour les élèves cela peut donner lieu à des instabilités. On est dans un rapport de service. Certains professeurs doivent s'y habituer, ce challenge permet d'avoir des responsabilités supplémentaires et la profession prend un autre éclairage, une plus grande implication.22'50 : Vincent part aux Etats-Unis après Genève. Il a une forte attirance avec les USA, mais y habiter est différent. La French American School of New York l'a pris en 2017 (il avait été accepté à NY Washington ou Los Angeles).24'13 : Vincent est alors rentré dans l'AEFE le réseau d'enseignement français à l'étranger. Vincent avait grâce à cet esprit AEFE un lien aux méthodes et esprits français, et il a développé son réseau.25'00 : L'AEFE est un réseau d'établissement, une grande famille, on se connaît presque tous, à travers le monde. On partage les informations sur les postes vacants.Après 3 ans à New York ville monde, Vincent a souhaité se retrouver, retrouver ses montagnes. Il a été mis en contact avec le LFZ, Sandrine Kéroullé qu'il remercie infiniment. Sandrine est très professionnelle, un plaisir de travailler avec elle. Les différents projets d'établissement et le numérique ont été déterminants pour son choix du LFZ aussi. M. Latouche lui a fait confiance et lui a confié la mission de professeur référent pour le numérique, il l'en remercie.26'40 : Vincent décide de monter sa boîte de conseil en « relocation » de professeurs, les aidant à s'expatrier : Time2Leave. Vincent évoque sa formation à la Haute Ecole de Commerce de Genève, qui a cultivé sa fibre entrepreneuriale et pratique, en 2 ans. Son projet de fin d'étude était cette idée d'agence de conseils pour les professeurs.En 2020 Vincent souhaite concrétiser cette idée, il crée son site internet.L'objectif est d'aider les professeurs dans leurs démarches, les accompagner, ou bien pour être mis en relation avec des chefs d'établissement … Ce sont aussi des conseils fiscaux, des renseignements plus spécifiques aussi. Vincent administre le groupe FB : échanges entre professeurs à l'étranger, qui regroupe 15'000 professeurs qui échangent sur de précieux renseignements de détachement, disponibilités etc…30'25 : Le conseil, l'esprit altruiste anime Vincent, on a besoin de spécialistes à certains moments de sa vie. Vincent est une vraie motivation.31'26 : le temps de l'idée à l'action, la mise en place du projet. Le fait que Vincent marie ses centres d'intérêt par ce projet, met à profit ce qu'il a pu apprendre. Il a mûri le projet en parallèle de ses cours.33'00 : la solidarité francophone, le développement de contacts, permet de la croissance.A propos des jeunes professeurs après le Master.34'18 : à propos du nouveau BAC, Vincent y voit une dimension cyclique, le retour de choses déjà demandées avant, comme la mode ! C'est un format de type agrégatif.35'30 : sur le BAC international, plus anglo-saxon on apprend qu'il a été créé à Genève pour les enfants de l'ONU, pour donner à tous un socle commun de connaissances. Ce BAC brasse un grand nombre d'œuvres issues du patrimoine mondial, traduites ou en langues étrangères, c'est fascinant de voir des œuvres contemporaines, peu connues, cela amène une grande ouverture sur l'enseignement et l'apprentissage.36'42 : le goût pour le cinéma. La passion de Vincent pour les short movies… Quand on aime la littérature on aime le beau cinéma. Cela recoupe les mêmes techniques de point de vue, d'angles, d'analyses. La beauté de l'image c'est la beauté des descriptions d'un roman. Son premier poste était à Cannes, face à la Croisette et aux marches du Festival. C'est excitant cette création cinématographique. Il a fait le concours de la critique filmique avec ses élèves. Il a fait une spécialité cinéma, le cours Florent à Paris.39'20 : personnalité qui veut plus, veut apprendre plus, ne reste pas dans sa zone de confort. J'ai touché mes rêves, ou participé à des accomplissements. En terme humain et amical, Vincent coach aussi ses amis et proches.40'25 : le projet cinéma du LFZ. ( Festival Focus on French Cinema) La pandémie a ralenti les projets.41'50 : ses élèves du LFZ, l'approche : de beaux moyens mis en œuvre pour donner les meilleures conditions de travail aux élèves. Vincent a eu son heure de club ciné.42'44 : bloggeur pour la WWF, implication pour la cause animale et environnementale. Implications en politique. Militantisme et citoyenneté sont proches pour prendre soin de la planète. Les actions ponctuelles aident, s'intéresser aux éco-systèmes, au réchauffement climatique. On apprend la biologie.45'00 : Vincent a deux facettes dans ses goûts littéraires, il évoque l'Apocalypse de Saint Jean, La Terre de Zola et les effets de climat. La littérature hyperbolique : Rabelais, baroque, les passions extrêmes lui plaisent.Mais aussi les textes joyeux bucoliques : Saint John Perse, Paul Claudel. La révélation littéraire de Vincent c'est Zola. Cette dureté l'accroche.Plus qu'un mentor, c'est les textes qui l'ont guidé, des morceaux choisis l'alertent et le guident.Vincent croit à une constellation littéraire, la mise en relation des textes.
