Hold onto your Mickey ears, folks, because Marq and Beth are taking you on a thrill ride through the latest Disneyland Paris developments, World Premieres (yes, plural) questionable naming choices, and Beth's emotional breakdown over  some shocking attraction news (RIP, old friend).    Here's what to expect:    * Abu Dhabi has joined the chat: Disney's Big Royal Expansion.  There's a whole new world rising in the United Arab Emirates, a Disney Adventure made for and paid by actual Princes and, we assume, princesses. Somewhere in the world where they don't cry over spirit jersey prices. Beth and Marq debate: Is this Bob Iger's final genius move before handing over the keys to the Kingdom?   *Studio One's Grand Reopening: Now with More… Confusing Music? Back in our humble expansion park, Studio One has reopened—but now it's called « World Premiere » (because Disney loves a rebrand). Visitors are loving the glow-up, but the music playlist?  A bit baffling, not that we are hating on John Williams.  Is it Hollywood glam or an overly modern muddle? You decide.    * Hollywood Gardens: Great Vibes, Meh Menu  The atmosphere? Chef's kiss ! The food? The chef is not ready to kiss anybody quite yet. Beth and Marq discuss why this spot nails the aesthetic but fumbles the food variety. This place deserves more than fish burgers and star nuggets. But the dessert do look sweet!   * Disney's Naming Conventions: What's in a wor(l)d?  Park terminology. We've discussed this before, but why does Disney have  to reuse the same three words in every park name? Like, do you need a Premier Access to have a World Premiere Adventure? Send help !   *

A Note for Jacob: Since my second podcast recording with Matt, I am pleased to report that General Admission Seating for the May 5 event is SOLD OUT!!   It is a pleasure to welcome actor Matt DeAngelis back to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.  Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Matt grew up on showtunes and Boston sports. Matt studied theatre at the University of Southern Maine and The Boston Conservatory before heading down Route 95 to NYC in 2004. In June 2009, Matt got the call to make his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning production of HAIR with Tony Award winner Diane Paulus at the helm. Matt continued with that production, “Across the Atlantic Sea,” to the West End in the role of “Woof” and then launched the first national US Tour of HAIR and was seen back on Broadway in the “Summer of Love” revival of HAIR.Following his time with the hippies, Matt launched the first national tour of Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT as the “Representative from Jingletown”. Matt's cross-country adventures continued in 2014 with the first national tour of ONCE, where he played “Svec” and five instruments. Over the last five years, Matt has been a veteran of almost 2,000 performances.   Thankfully, Matt returned home to Broadway (again with Diane Paulus) in the hit musical WAITRESS, where he starred opposite Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller, two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz, and seven-time Grammy nominee and the show's composer, Sara Bareilles. He then toured the country with the WAITRESS National Tour as Earl opposite his real-life wife, Christine Dwyer, as Jenna. Upon returning from the road, Matt was a part of developing the World Premiere of The Secret Life of Bees at The Atlantic Theatre Company, directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold. He also appeared in Orpheus Descending at Theatre for a New Audience.  Matt DeAngelis also started the Janice Jam in memory of his mother, Janice, who passed from metastatic breast cancer in 2022. This annual event channels the magic of Broadway to honor those we've lost, uplift those fighting, and fund critical research. This event serves as a yearly celebration of Janice, her love for theater, and raising money for those affected by metastatic breast cancer.   On May 5, 2025, a group of Broadway all-stars will join Matt and Christine for this event. Golden Globe and Oscar-winning actor Ariana DeBose, Tony winner John Gallagher, Jr., Tony-nominated actors Jeremy Jordan and Jenn Colella, Caroline Bowman, Kara Lindsay, Krysta Rodriguez, Omar Jose Cardona, Rachel Potter, and Stark Sands are expected to perform. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Matt DeAngelis previewed the 2025 Janice Jam, revealed this year's music director, and explained how you can support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

Susan Oxtoby, Director of Film and Senior Film Curator at Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA), discusses the work of the great Belgian-French film maker Agnes Varda (1928-2019) with host Richard Wolinsky. The first major biography of Agnes Varda, A Complicated Passion: The Life and Work of Agnes Varda by Carrie Rickey, was published in 2024 and will come out in paperback on August 12, 2025. Agnes Varda began her career as a stills photographer and became a director with La Point Courte (1954), having seen very few films in her life. She went on to international fame with Cleo from 5 to 7 and Vagabond, but her late life films The Beaches of Agnes and Faces, Places established her as one of the most important directors of the modern era. My guest this week is the three-time Tony award-winning Broadway orchestrator Doug Besterman, whose 31 Broadway musicals include The Producers, Fosse, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and his very first show, the 1991 revival of Damn Yankees, to name only a few. During this current Broadway season, Besterman will achieve something unheard of in his field: he will have three big musicals — Death Becomes Her, Boop!, and Smash — all running simultaneously on Broadway. Making it even more remarkable, two of those shows began previews on the same night and now open on Broadway in the same week. Besterman's film credits include the live-action version of Beauty and The Beast and Frozen. TV credits include the Marc Shaiman/Scott Witman compositions for Smash, ABC's version of Annie, The Sound of Music Live, and Peter Pan Live. As Tony Award-winning choreographer Susan Stroman's orchestrator of choice, his work has been heard on Little Dancer (co-orchestrator with Larry Hochman) at The 5th Avenue Theatre and the Kennedy Center and Crazy for You at Chichester Festival and on the West End. His most recent regional work was the World Premiere of Schmigadoon at the Kennedy Center and Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil at the Goodman Theatre. Become A PATRON of Broadway Nation! [Editor's Note: We experienced some technical difficulties with the audio of this episode. Our apologies, and thank you for your understanding!]Meghann Fahy's been thriving on screen for quite some time now. She was in over 80 episodes of One Life to Live as Hannah O'Connor and starred in the hit Freeform series The Bold Type which ran for five seasons. But, there's no denying that The White Lotus was a different kind of game-changer. Not only did Mike White's HBO series continue to be a pop culture sensation in its second season, but the quality of the new episodes earned nine members of the ensemble Emmy nominations, including Fahy.Since that Emmy nomination? Fahy's downright soaring. She had a role in the 2024 genre mash-up gem Your Monster starring a Collider Ladies Night favorite, Melissa Barrera. She was in The Perfect Couple with Nicole Kidman, she was in Rebuilding with Josh O'Connor which earned high praise at Sundance, and is also in Molly Smith Metzler's highly anticipated Netflix series Sirens with Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock. All very exciting achievements, but there's something extra special about the movie Fahy has hitting theaters on April 11. Christopher Landon's Drop marks the very first time Fahy is #1 on the call sheet for a feature film. She headlines as Violent, a widowed mother reluctantly going on her first date in years. While dining in an upscale restaurant with her dating app match, Brandon Sklenar's Henry, Violet starts getting a string of unusual and alarming anonymous drops to her phone. Is it her date? Is it another diner? Or perhaps it's an employee at the restaurant. Violet doesn't know and she'll have to figure it out on her own because the assailant is watching and they insist she tell no one - or else.Drop rocks a sharp script and the much-needed skilled mind and eye to execute it in Landon, but the success of the film heavily depends on Fahy's ability to deftly navigate the production challenges that come with such a concept while also ensuring the viewer can feel the threat Violet's under, and she excels tackling both - big time. While celebrating Drop's World Premiere screening at SXSW, Fahy visited the Collider Media Studio at the Cinema Center for a Collider Ladies Night interview to go back to the beginning and recap her journey to landing at the top of the call sheet. 7 Ages Theatricals is producing the world premiere of Fool, Austin Tichenor's adaptation of Christopher Moore's New York Times bestselling comic novel. Tom Berger, 7AT's executive artistic director, talks about how this theatrical collaboration came to be, and reveals how the combination of Tichenor and Moore creates "a match made in Shakespeare comedy heaven" (Broadway World). Berger discusses the pleasure of being a theatre slut; the importance of staying in one's artistic lane; the stress of not wanting to disappoint each other (or Fool's creator); the paradox of having written "Schrödinger's Play;" the trick of making sure the audience catches what we're throwing; and the fateful coincidence of being a Christopher Moore superfan and a Reduced – as well as a real – Shakespeare guy. Send us a textA powerful convergence of art and advocacy unfolds in this episode of Queer Voices as two transformative leaders share their visions for Houston's LGBTQ+ community.Pulitzer Prize finalist Lisa DeMoore invites listeners into her boundary-defying theatrical world, where traditional storytelling meets immersive art installation. Her fourth collaboration with Catastrophic Theater, "The Frozen Section," imagines a surreal post-apocalyptic grocery store where survivors maintain humanity through collective performance. "We meet the people who are the workers and the people who are the shoppers," DeMoore explains, revealing how this strange microcosm explores community resilience when societal structures collapse. The playwright's description of her previous work—including a six-hour installation where audiences witnessed a fabric forest appear and vanish—showcases her unique approach to creating theater that functions as both poetry and social commentary.Meanwhile, Montrose Center CEO Avery Belyeu reflects on her first year leading Houston's largest LGBTQ+ resource hub during increasingly challenging political times. With previous leadership roles at Lambda Legal and The Trevor Project, Bellew brings both professional expertise and personal perspective as a transgender woman navigating the current landscape. Her vision for the Center emphasizes community connection as the ultimate solution to political scapegoating and potential funding threats. "I think that's where it's so important for all of us to make sure we're taking care of ourselves," Bellew advises, highlighting the Center's comprehensive services for 55,000 annual clients across all age groups—from youth programming to senior housing. The conversation weaves between artistic expression and practical advocacy as both guests demonstrate how Houston's queer community creates resilience through creativity, connection, and care. Whether through DeMoore's surreal theatrical worlds or the Montrose Center's tangible support services, this episode reveals how LGBTQ+ Houstonians continue building futures despite uncertainty.Don't miss "The Frozen Section" running March 28-April 19 at The Match, and mark your calendars for the Montrose Center's circus-themed "Empowering Our Future" gala on April 26, where you can directly support vital youth services while celebrating community joy.Queer Voices airs in Houston Texas on 90.1FM KPFT and is heard as a podcast here. It is a privilege to welcome actor Matt DeAngelis as a guest for a special edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Matt continued with that production “Across the Atlantic Sea” to The West End in the role of “Woof” and then launched the first national US Tour of HAIR and was seen back on Broadway in the “Summer of Love” revival of HAIR.Following his time with the hippies, Matt launched the 1st National tour of Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT as the “Representative from Jingletown”. Matt's cross-country adventures continued in 2014 with the first national tour of ONCE, where he played “Svec” and five instruments. Over the last five years, Matt has been a veteran of almost 2,000 performances. Thankfully, Matt returned home to Broadway (again with Diane Paulus) in the hit musical WAITRESS, where he starred opposite Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller, two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz, and seven-time Grammy nominee, and the show's composer, Sara Bareilles. He then toured the country with the WAITRESS National Tour as Earl opposite his real life wife, Christine Dwyer, as Jenna. Upon returning from the road Matt was a part of developing the World Premiere of The Secret Life of Bees at The Atlantic Theatre Company, directed by TONY winner Sam Gold. He also appeared in Orpheus Descending at Theatre for a New Audience.Matt DeAngelis made many performance appearances on television with these multiple shows, including Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Matt is also seen on Person of Interest, Madam Secretary, Marvel's Daredevil, EVIL, For Life, Chicago PD, FBI, and Waitress starring Sara Bareilles. Matt lives with his beautiful wife, fellow performer (and Bostonian) Christine Dwyer, and their Boston Terrier “Chowdah". Matt and Christine also co-own THE WORKING STUDIO, a music theatre and acting studio dedicated to unlocking people's potential and embracing individuality in the audition process. They have also launched a successful master class series, UPGRADE YOUR AUDITION, with other top industry professionals to demystify the auditioning and booking process. Matt DeAngelis also started the Saloon Sessions. The once-a-month jam session features Matt and his cast members from Swept Away as they perform a combination of Broadway, folk music, and pop tunes. DeAngelis has brought together an impressive group of performers in honor of his mother and the countless others affected by the disease. The series serves as a celebration of his mother, Janice, who passed away in 2022 from metastatic breast cancer.  Janice's love of theater and music and raises money for the millions of people affected by breast and other types of cancer. The show also welcomes special guests. For their upcoming March 16 show, Tony-nominated actor Tony Yazbeck (On The Town), Emma Pittman (The Outsiders and Back to the Future), and Stephanie Torns (Waitress and Wicked) will join the festivities at Hurley's Saloon in New York City.  Proceeds from the show will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.    On this special episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Matt DeAngelis spoke about performing in Hair, Swept Away, and Waitress. He also discussed starting the Saloon Sessions and how some of Broadway's biggest stars rally around the residency.Let's connect on social media: A) BlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/jacobelyachar.bsky.socialB) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JacobElyachar/C) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jacobelyachar/D) Threads: https://www.threads.net/@jacobelyacharE) Twitter (X): https://x.com/JacobElyacharF) YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@JacobElyacharBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

Alright, buckle up, because this episode is a goddamn BLAST! We're jumping into the sweaty, raw, and unapologetic world of From Parts Unknown. A couple of weeks back, I ditched the studio and infiltrated their practice space – think concrete floors, ripped posters, and the kind of energy that makes your eardrums vibrate before they even plug in. We talked everything: from their new bass player, the real stories behind their gritty lyrics, and how Ben wants to take a dump on the Orange mans stage. These dudes are the real deal, no frills, just pure, punk passion. But here's the kicker, folks. I managed to snag an exclusive. You're hearing it here FIRST. We're dropping the WORLD PREMIERE of their brand-spanking-new track, "On and On". This ain't hitting streaming platforms until TOMORROW, so consider this your VIP pass. It's a furious, anthemic banger that'll have you screaming along by the second chorus. Trust me, you'll be hitting replay.Follow The Austin Young Show:www.austinyoungshow.comMusic By:From Parts Unknown - Barrymore, Teddy Ruxpin, On and On.Hotcake Hand Grenade - Grape Soda The Austin Young Show theme song was created by The Fullstops*DISCLAIMER: I hereby declare that I do not own the rights to this music/song. Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and her daughter, poet and writer Ruby Aiyo Gerber, talk about co-writing the opera, “This House.” Taking place in a majestic Harlem brownstone, the opera explores themes of gentrification and losing Black histories. It also delves into what connects – and binds – people to history and to one another. “This House” will have its world premiere at Opera Theatre of St. Louis this May.
