In this program, we continue to discuss the prospective impeachment of the President by the House of Representatives. Rich Procita, an attorney who specializing in helping clients get their social security benefits, often deals dwith poor and disabled people. He is also wishes to encourage society t conform to its highest ideals, centered on social justice, not exploitation for the few at the sake of the many. One of Rich’s concerns, as expressed in his blog,”Modern Lectionaries,” is trying to reach out to Churches to be able to reach its congregations with a progressive message. He points out in this interview that there are something like 3000 mentions of justice in Scripture and points out how the more modern interpretations of Scripture have been largely displaced by the Orthodox interpretations, favoring dogma over social justice. He points out how Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey on one side of the City while the Imperial Roman legions, mostly on horseback, enter with all their massive weaponry, on the other side of the City. He warns against authoritarianism trying to overturn the concept of self-rule as favored by the Constitution. Je says that we cannot have a President who gets away with crimes and, given the Department Justice’s ruling against convicting a President of a crime during his terms, impeachment is the only answer. Also, it is probably the only way to get him convicted after his terms. Impeachment may be the only way to defend democracy by getting the story out to the American people. He sees the Bible as largely a political document- the story of occupied peoples. In this manner, he counters a more conservative point of view of Scripture. It is the view of Inalienable and Free that all scriptures and all spiritual movements contain seeds of Truth, but often they have been modified over centuries in a fashion that distorts their original message which is consistent with the Inalienable and Free Clause in the Declaration: namely, all men are created equal in the eyes of God and entitled to the full range of their inalienable rights. This program is being recorded in the middle of a very toxic government shutdown. This shutdown is probably going to be more costly than the $5 billion or so dollars that President Trump is demanding for the wall on our Southern Border. Repercussions of the shutdown are not just limited to hundreds of thousands government workers who either work without pay or are sent home and will never recover their lost work paycheck- but economic repercussions, dangers to health by the absence of food inspectors, airplane safety and security and multiple costs to government contractors, small businesses, even our country’s credit rating and performance of our financial markets. The problem for the Democrats is that allowing a President to hold the government and the American people hostage for something that should rightfully be legislated to Congress. They are blamed for the shutdown by Trump, who publicly stated he would take the blame. Democrats say that his claims of an emergency are significantly blunted by the facts. Yet to many in his base, the dangers at the border are real- including human trafficking, drug running and terrorism. They picture the border as being flooded by criminals attempting to invade the United States. And Trump is the master of this enormous security problem, whose wall as a true security measure is discounted by the Democrats and many experts in security. For one person, Jeremy Montanez, this conflict between the two views of Trump and the potential toxicity of this contradiction came into stark contrast when he was invited to participate in a CNN panel. As a result of what happened on that program, including the fact that it was edited in a way that distorted Jeremy’s own publicly-intended statements, Jeremy’s life was altered. His few minutes on this 15-minute program were followed by extreme, continual death threats and harassment. Despite Trump’s campaign promises to diminish the use of our troops in foreign military excursions, after his reign began, he showed that he was not just willing to provide this country with a strong military foundation, but he was willing to use it, directly and indirectly. Accordingly, On September 19, 2017, Trump gave a speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations which concluded with very serious allegations against the government of Nicolas Maduro. Maduro, who took over from Chavez, has overseen a country with serious a serious currency problem and an emigration crisis of massive proportions, as well as pockets of extreme suffering of components of its population. There were pockets of hunger and unsatisfied health needs as well as unemployment. Nonetheless, there is a debate over the actual corruption and authoritarianism of the regime as well as discussion of the extent of the suffering as described in media. In this program, various alternative media views will be presented. It is up to make up our mind whether or not, storm clouds are brewing and whether or not some kind of peace has a chance of prevailing or whether either a direct or indirect military actions by the United States is immanent. This is the third show of a new series, Recipe for a Perfect World- A Geopolitical Perspective, a series intended to look at the old and current geopolitical perspectives and then produce paradigms that would change the results. These results would retain sovereignty among nations but produce co-operative solutions- economic, political, cultueral0 that would be beneficial to the planet. In this show, Don Newsom (owner of BBS Radio and entrepreneur) and I began a new set of programs for the serious- called Informed and Awakened Part I- Deprogramming the American Electorate. There is no question that the only sure guarantor of success for any type of new geophysical perspective would be that people throughout the world become informed and awakened so that they can take part in the electoral processes in their own countries, whenever possible. There are, however, problems standing in the way of becoming so informed and awakened. The first problem is that things are immensely complicated these days and one has to commit time to do this. The second problem is that the proliferation of online activity offers a challenge to selectively find enough information to act on responsibly. The third problem is the selectivity itself in finding information- because of the deliberately deceptive information extending from both governments, corporations and media. Fake news abounds, even from people or organizations utilizing that phrase to characterize most everyone else. Since our goal in Inalienable and Free is to produce a paradigm consistent with core spirituality, which we feel involves the mandate of righteous behavior for all people and is present in all true forms of spirituality and religions, we view the goal of being informed and awakened as partially a spiritual goal. To quote from the program itself, we are reminded of the words of Thomas Jefferson- "Convinced that the people are the only safe depositories of their own liberty, and that they are not safe unless enlightened to a certain degree, I have looked on our present state of liberty as a short-lived possession unless the mass of the people could be informed to a certain degree." --Thomas Jefferson to Littleton Waller Tazewell, 1805. It is clear that, by now, after all these years- we can safely say that our safe depositories are being locked up by the bank, by which I mean, metaphorically, the government. People’s ignorance, apathy and self-concern- have given us a democracy that is being locked down by forces that do not believe in liberty. But we ourselves have voted for those resources. Eleven years later, after that first letter, Jefferson wrote to Charles Yance, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." Yes, though the timetable is more than critical- and we have lost so many of our rights, this edition of Inalienable and Free explores the steps for getting them back, asking the question- How can we become awakened and informed?- the very first step. To make decisions affecting other people on this planet without the attitude of love and conern for their challenges and their suffering is a departure from human conscience, which is a human psychological mirror of the righteousness inherent in the experience of the Divine Presence. Peace on Earth, however seemingly unreachable and challenging now, demands that we get rid of the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction. This is probably agreed upon by all world leaders and all governments knowing that the human species and, in fact, all animal and plant species could face radical extinction if there is a full scale nuclear war. Still, considering the continuing refining and upgrading of these weapons, the idea of true disarmament is largely lip service. Reducing stockpiles of weapons that lesson the exponential power of destroying the whole planet- is a set of fascinating but largely useless political dance steps. What we need are elected officials who see the dangers we are in and have made the decision to take action, action which would create and validate international legal requirements, agreed to by all nations- that would validate the end to the MAD scenario, destroy entirely these weapons systems and all other WMP weapons and their strategic and tactical scenarios. Furthermore, a very sophisticated and iron clad international policing force would need to be set up on a permanent basis. In this program, we discuss two weapons of mass destruction developed respectively by the U.S. and Russia. These weapons, a submarine and a more advanced ballistic missile, demonstrate the extraordinary firepower that could instantaneously embroil the planet in unstoppable and lethal nuclear scenarios. Having faced the multiple tragedies and degradation following the zero tolerance policy which led to family separation for hundreds of parents and children who had crossed the border illegally, the challenge was to try and find a way of handling border problems differently. And since the border problems have reached a crisis point for many nations, we decided to think of ways that the entire international community could participate in a generous and graceful solution to this mammoth problem. While protecting the borders of sovereign nations, is there a way to deal with grievous problems that lead asylum seekers and others to penetrate borders illegally? Although we came up to the idea independently, there was one element in the European Migration settlement that we had thought of and had been acted on several years ago by the EU. It was to move migrants to countries that had space for them that were not on the contiguous borders which migrants had attempted to cross. But since driving impoverished and desperate people to a different place often results in very unpleasant refugee centers, we tried to think of a more prosperous win-win situation for both refugees and their ultimate destination. We called where we were sending them to a “border empowerment community” which we discuss in this podcast along with “cooperative trade zones,” which entails a different type of paradigm for engaging with trade, with a philosophy compatible with border empowerment communities.
