Julia reads old journal entries with friends.
A longggg one folks! Lots of topics covered here. Julia probably should've edited way more out especially because wow. Bonus ep vibes!
Fan favorite Kate is back ONCE AGAIN to continue reading journal entries from her trip to New Zealand in 2009 and the period following it. Julia shares some emails from that same period. Topics include: traveling, Cheeky Monkey, college parties, someone climbing a tree for attention.
Due to popular demand and Julia having too much free time, Julie's Journal is back with season 2! Fan favorite Kate Wheeler shares some journal entries from her time in New Zealand in early 2009. Julia reads some email exchanges between the two of them during that same period.
Fan favorite Kate Wheeler joins Julia on the pod once again to talk about their bender in the summer of 2014.
On this extra special episode of the pod, Georgia Maq from Camp Cope reads her journal entries from "primary school." Topics include: Georgia losing her virginity, smoking weed for the first time, speaking in Simlish, and a whole bunch of teenage drama.
Gretch joins Julia on the pod to talk even more extensively about college and the early days of Chastity Belt. Topics include: breaking bottles, Chastity Belt's legendary breakout performance at Betafest, Gretchen's thesis presentation on surreal numbers, and naked beer mile.
Kate joins the pod once again for another trip down memory lane. Topics discussed include: ice skating with Julia's dad and his coworkers, another lame New Year's party, Kate being a bad host when Julia visited her at college, a run in with James Franco, and getting shushed while seeing Trollhunter in theaters. Outro song: "Old Man (Warrior Music Remix)"
Robin Edwards a.k.a. Lisa Prank makes her debut appearance on the pod. Journal entries range from 2014 to 2016 and topics include: our first tour together, working in the Redwood kitchen, a bummer Grammys viewing party, Groundhog Day, late night heart to hearts, and the alternate timeline where Bree had a king sized bed and Robin died in a tsunami.
Andrew Hall, drummer of Dude York, joins Julia on the pod to discuss journal entries from late 2012 and early 2013, right after Julia had moved to Seattle and Andrew was drumming in Chastity Belt, a.k.a. the Dude Belt era. Topics include: Taylor Swift conspiracy theories, the pureness of music produced in our early 20s, the contents of Lake Washington, Mac Demarco's horrifying Canadian friend, body shots with strangers, etc.Outro song - "Fuck City" by Dude York: https://dudeyork.bandcamp.com/track/fuck-city
Kate joins Julia on the pod once again, discussing some of the shenanigans they got into before and after their trip to the UK in 2010. Topics include: a vicious rumor that Julia made out with a dog, a handful of mediocre parties, Kate's visit to Julia's college sophomore year, and a trip to Fresno to visit Kate's entire extended family. This is a very tender episode about growing up and "into yourself."
Bree McKenna, bassist of Tacocat, Childbirth and Who Is She? joins Julia on the pod. Julia manages to hold Bree's attention for an entire hour of both riveting and incriminating conversation about their first Childbirth tour, the extremely dramatic summer of 2014, and Julia's semester abroad in Florence, Italy in 2011.
Julia shares some lols with her bandmate Gretchen Grimm, drummer of Chastity Belt. They talk about sophomore and junior year of college, their first band "Combo Pack," and the early days of Chastity Belt.
Julia speaks with nearly forgotten Australian folk singer Darren Hanlon, reading journal entries from their 2015 US tour with Courtney Barnett. Darren explains Australian terms like "whipper snipper," "school camp" and "schoolies week." A lot of what is said between them is lost in translation, as they struggle to communicate while coming from vastly different cultures and generations. Julia's energy and enthusiasm on this episode is somewhat low, and she will try to do better next time, but she would've been more prepared if Darren had gotten the time of their Zoom call correct.
Julia talks with her oldest (not age-wise, but time-wise) friend Kate Wheeler about their infamous trip to the UK in the summer of 2010.
