What if Botox isn't as harmless as it seems? In this revealing episode of Vitality Made Simple, Dr. Debbie Ozment welcomes Gretch Elizabeth, researcher and advocate, for a deep dive into the overlooked risks of botulinum toxin A (Botox) injections. Drawing from personal experience and years of research, Gretch shares the story of her sister Heidi, whose life changed drastically after a small cosmetic treatment led to stroke-like symptoms and long-term health complications.Together, they unpack the reality behind the “purified protein” campaign, the FDA's black box warning, and how Botox can potentially trigger autoimmune flare-ups, neurotoxicity, and emotional dysregulation. Gretch also sheds light on the lack of practitioner training, misleading consent practices, and the cumulative nature of the neurotoxin's effects. The conversation explores broader concerns like societal pressure, emotional communication, and how facial paralysis may impact relationships, including how children read adult expressions. More than a cosmetic conversation, this episode challenges listeners to think critically about informed consent, wellness, and what we're truly seeking when we chase youth through injectables. Is looking wrinkle-free really worth injecting a neurotoxin that could mess with your brain, body, and hormones? In this eye-opening episode, I'm joined by truth-teller and health advocate Gretch Elizabeth from NeverTox to pull back the curtain on one of the most accepted—and least questioned—cosmetic procedures: Botox. What if the pursuit of smooth skin is quietly sabotaging your health? Gretch breaks down the science behind botulinum toxin—the neurotoxin that, with repeated injections, may have long-term, life-threatening consequences. This is the conversation every woman deserves before saying “yes” to the needle. Gretch Elizabeth is a passionate patient advocate who helps run the Never Tox Community Group—the largest international Botox injury support group in the world—dedicated to supporting individuals affected by botulinum toxin injuries through resources and education. Send Vanessa a Text MessageOriginal Air Date: 3/01/23This week, we are revisiting one of the most popular episodes of Intentionally Well, as it's been on my heart personally to re-share this important discussion. With a major lack of informed consent and continuous denial from practitioners, countless people have and are suffering from Botox injections worldwide. Despite growing awareness, the majority of society is still in the dark regarding this neurotoxin, and informed consent is critical when considering. Most providers today are also unaware of the suffering and negative effects for a variety of reasons, which complicates actual and factual informed consent from taking place. The Never Tox team has worked tirelessly to disclose correct patient information and set up a comprehensive support system for those who are in need of help post-injury or side effects. Gretch serves up some cold hard facts regarding statistics, shares plenty of anecdotal evidence, and answers all the typical "exception" questions one may have regarding the safety of Botox injections. She also educates us on the devastating reality of how it can play a huge role in one's mental/emotional health status. Never Tox is dedicated to helping people connect the dots between Botox injections and their health issues, and continues to compassionately advocate for those who've unfortunately been injured. Please see below for resources:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nevertox/Website: https://www.toxsafety.comFacebook Support Group (On holiday break, reopens 1/06/25): https://www.facebook.com/groups/224009391310103Never Tox YouTube Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Xbevgbh9f4&list=PLScjG_8vcfr1Zc0KKyrp28IxpZDK7GtHf&ab_channel=LSUTigerTV988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (U.S. residents): https://988lifeline.org/Never Tox Email: hi.nevertox@gmail.comVanessa's Discount Codes link: https://linktr.ee/thegiftofgoodsPodcast on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/well.with.vanessa/Podcast on YouTube: www.youtube.com/@IntentionallyWellPodcastVanessa on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thegiftofgoods/ Vanessa on Threads: https://www.threads.net/@thegiftofgoodsPodcast on TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@well.with.vanessaPodcast on X: https://x.com/wellwithvanessaEmail: intentionallywellpodcast@gmail.comSupport the showPodcast Website: https://intentionallywellwithvanessalopez.buzzsprout.comThis episode is for informational purposes only. On this educational episode, Gretch from @nevertox helps us understand the risks associated with Botox. With the percentage of women receiving Botox injections on a normal basis increasing rapidly, we all need to think about this very intentionally so we can make informed choices. She explains the history of Botox, what it is and all the uses for it. We talk about the warnings that are on the box and how the warnings given to patients are often woefully inadequate. She also explains how someone can be injured (FYI - it can be a single exposure) and what the wide variety of symptoms from Botox injury can be. Gretch believes that there is no safe amount of Botox. She works with a support group of 36,000 individuals injured by Botox, but this is still a very small percentage of the people who have suffered negative impacts. Lastly, we discuss resources for those who are dealing with a Botox injury. As women, this is something we need to be very educated about! So, after you listen. Rick Vito Live on Game Changers with Vicki Abelson What a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon. Grammy-nominated guitarist, singer, and producer, Rick Vito, probably best known as a member of Fleetwood Mac, was a sunny delight, hisself. Coming to us Live from Franklin TN, following the release of his recently dropped latest album, Cadillac Man, we wiled away the hour talking his tastes… The Stones, Duane Eddy, BB King, his passions, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green, his custom guitars, and his history… a 41-year marriage, two great kids, starting out with Delaney and Bonnie and Eric Clapton, what a story there! Moving to LA, crashing with Todd Rundgren, Something/Anything? Could I have played that album more freshman year? John Prine's Common Sense… oh please! An all-time favorite! Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, with our friends Russ Kunkel and Kootch, Bob Seger, and that idea of Rick's to play slide on Like a Rock, a tasty choice that would become an iconic anthem for Chevrolet and a generation. A great story about meeting John Fogerty, playing with Leon Russell, touring with Tina Turner, picking it up with Mick in the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band with Rick Vito, and getting nominated for a Grammy, and the last great show before the pandemic alongside Christine McVie (in her final performance), Billy Gibbons, Pete Townsend, David Gilmour, Bill Wyman, John Mayall, and a host of other musical luminaries in Mick Fleetwood & Friends Celebrate the Music of Peter Green concert filmed in London in 2020. We were treated to a glimpse of one of Rick Vito's Soul Agent Signature Custom Designed Art Deco Guitars which is available from Reverend Guitars. This pink beauty with black and white piping, Rick designed to have attributes of a Gibson, a Fender, and a Gretch. Rick's new album, Cadillac Man, is available now and has been on heavy rotation in the Snicki Mobile. I'm just loving it. A lotta rock n roll, heavy on the R & B. You can get yours here: https://www.rickvito.com It's easy to see why Rick's been in demand by so many diverse and stellar artists. He's a stunning talent, who plays from his soul, leaving space between the notes, and warmth within his smile. I can't wait to hear and see more!
