An Oakland resident for many years now, England-born Zoë Elton has colored the Bay Area's film and theater world with her many talents. She is a film curator, writer, cartoonist, interviewer, director, jewelry-designer, and the long-time Program Director for the Mill Valley Film Festival. Not only has her leadership and dedication to filmmaking helped the international Festival flourish, but her keen creative eye has helped the Festival choose films that would go on to win Oscars. Elton's passions and experience has allowed her to explore new avenues with the Festival, too. She initiated the Active Cinema Program, which examines artist's works with a cause, and Mind the Gap, a women's initiative that supports women filmmakers. Her long-time exposure to the Film world and knack for interviewing has also given her great opportunities to learn from successful filmmakers and luminaries such as Dustin Hoffman, James Franco, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren, and more. Zoë is infectious to be around. Her calm and gentle manner disarms those around her, allowing them to get to know her with ease. Her stories of traveling the world in search of films and accounts of her wonderful years in the Bay Area are endless. It was an honor and pleasure to document some of Elton's stories in this week's episode of Beyond the Fog Radio. What happens when life's hardships meets the proportionate strength of a spider? You get one of the best superhero movies ever made. The follow up to the groundbreaking and record smashing hit from 2002 had a lot on its shoulders. Sam Raimi upped the stakes for Peter Parker in every way physically but it was the mental and emotional battle which became the webhead's greatest yet. A multi faceted dive into the character that has set the standard for every movie since then, on todays show we discuss Spider-Man 2.
In the summer of 2002, a radioactive spider bit a mild mannered teenager and the world would never be the same. Gaining the proportionate strength of a spider along with tensile webbing and the ability to crawl on walls, Peter Parker became Spider-Man. Director Sam Raimi did what many had tried to do for years and brought the webhead from Amazing Fantasy to the big screen. With a stellar ensemble cast and crew, it would set a standard for a genre in its infancy and serve as a template for the next 20 years for superhero movies and film itself.

What a Creep: Casey Affleck & James Franco Season 13, Episode 1 A Duo of Acting Creeps Casey Affleck is a successful actor, writer, and director who was nominated for an Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actor in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in 2007. He also had roles in a string of hit films like To Do For, Good Will Hunting, Oceans 11, 12 & 13, plus Gone Baby Gone directed by his older brother Ben. In 2009, he and his buddy Joaquin Phoenix decided to direct a Spinal Tap-Esque film where Joaquin would play a hyped-up version of himself becoming a hip hop star after winning an Oscar for Walk the Line. It was called I'm Still Here and was a flop in many ways, artistically and financially (he used his own money to fund it) plus, he was later sued by two women who worked for him for sexual assault and continual harassment on the set by him and his buddies on the set. This lawsuit has not stopped the press fawning over his talent. In this episode, we will talk about the two lawsuits and their aftermath. This week we talk about arguably, one of the most hated Spider-Man movies to have ever been made. Even though Tobey Maguire, James Franco, and Kirsten Dunst are trying their best, this movie still wasn't as good as the first two. It's still very entertaining, but let's be real, this entire film is a meme within itself. Everyone's hitting their head multiple times. Peter Parker is a sh** boyfriend and has noticeably thin lips. Everyone is stupid in this movie for some reason. Eddie Brock sounds like he has Invisalign and Venom looks weird. ALAN IS FINALLY ON CAMERA!

The movie stars Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, Kristen Dunst as Jane Watson, Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, James Franco as Harry Osborn, and J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. For our seventh episode studying the film series which once asked us to go ape, we find ourselves in a state-of-the-art- circa 2011 anyways- digital playground with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the first of the most recent trilogy of reimagined primate action. Listen as we first discuss some recent films we've seen, including Robert Altman's 1979 uncharacteristic bore Quintet and the newly released Don't Breathe 2, which of course sparked a brief conversational revisit of the canny 2016 original. Upon finally getting around to the 2011 simian film, we weigh the various means through which this seventh entry retooled the franchise for yet another new generation, attempt to traverse across the tricky minefield that is James Franco as unscathed as we can, and do our best to come to terms with the likely permanent arrival of computer-generated apes. Here we are again! It's another week and we're back with another episode of First Smoke of The Day with a special guest for you, the one and only Ed Bassmaster.Ed Bassmaster hails from Philadelphia and is a YouTube star who makes some great prank videos. He's been on YouTube since 2006 and has been making people laugh and spreading smiles since then. He also has done "live" comedy shows. He makes videos posing as different offbeat and funny characters, and man, do we love his videos! You can get pranked by a CIA Agent or a zombie face, and it gets real, for there is no stopping him when he gets into character. After nearly a decade of great toil, he's begun to taste brilliant success, shooting bits featuring James Franco, Aaron Eckhart, and Tony Hawk. And we greatly admire the dedication he puts into his videos and work. He has a unique taste in the cannabis industry and doing stuff that we all love.In today's episode, Ed talks about the experience he had finding the best industry has to offer. He works with Berner from the 'Cookies' brand and has tried stuff from Blackleaf to Georgia Pie. As the talk shifted to his shows, Ed shared the different fascinating characters he plays in his videos. It was a real surprise to find that some of his characters impersonate people that he knows. We get to learn more about Ed's exceptional skills for character development that, combined with his excellent humor, makes hilarious content that's been making us laugh and love him.We can notice Ed's discontent about how misunderstood and misrepresented the cannabis community is and how people fail to understand that cannabis is helping many people out there and keeping them going, especially in times like these. We really enjoyed talking to him. This episode is not to be missed if you want to start your Monday in good vibes!Connect with Ed BassmasterInstagramWebsiteThank you so much for tuning into First Smoke of The Day. Honey's new music takes us on her journey of recovery and showcases extreme emotional depth with songs like "Oh Lawd" and "Sleeping Ugly". This week on the podcast, we're joined by film critic Robert Daniels (of 812filmreviews and a contributor to RogerEbert.com, NY Times, Vulture, and others) to break down an exceedingly strange double feature in our heroes' oeuvre! First up is Basic, the final film to date from John “Die Hard” McTiernan, which sees John Travolta return to the military-legal-thriller well after General's Daughter. Here, he plays (no shit) Tom Hardy, a sardonic crooked DEA agent roped into a murder investigation of his former hard-ass CO (Samuel L. Jackson, spitting ‘motherfucker's from beyond the grave). It's a wild, ropey ride with more twists than a loaf of challah. On the other side of the coin, we see what happens when Nicolas Cage ropes his actor friends into a warmed-over Tennessee Williams riff with his first (and only) director credit to date, the disastrous Sonny! James Franco pops up as a pouty gigolo-turned-army-vet returning home from the war to N'awlins and his brothel-madam mother (Brenda Blethyn), who just won't stop trying to get him to turn tricks again. Also, Cage shows up in a lace cravat for five minutes and shouts at Franco while trying to both kill him and suck his dick. Le cinema! Celebrity trainer Ngo Okafor shares how physical fitness has led to a fuller and happier life that includes modeling, boxing, and entrepreneurship. Guest Biography Part machine, but all heart, Ngo Okafor is a fitness expert and the owner/founder of Iconoclast Fitness Studio, the gym where quick, dramatic body transformations happen, using Ngo's tested and proven training system, that has dramatically transformed dozens of clients, including A-list celebrities. Ngo's offers results in 7, 14 and 28 day training durations. Ngo is also a father and philanthropist. After a childhood spent bedridden in Nigeria, he moved to the United States to study computer science at the University of Connecticut. Never one to shy away from hard work (he had his mother photocopy class notes when he was confined to the hospital, so he could keep up with his schoolwork), he took up boxing at the relatively advanced age of 31 — and proceeded to win two back-to-back Golden Gloves Championship, two years in a row. Using the same laser-like focus, Ngo built his personal training business into a model that others would envy, picking up accolades such as being named one of New York's “hottest trainers whipping beautiful people into shape” by the New York Post. Nike has also taken notice, signing Ngo as a chapter leader for its NIKE+NYC Training Program. Ngo has worked with bold-facers such as Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell, Chanel Iman, and fashion designer Marissa Webb. Ngo is frequently quoted as a fitness expert in publications as varied as Elle, Glamour, O-The Oprah Magazine, Men's Health, and is often a guest on television programs like Good Day New York on Fox 5. He's earned this loyal following by espousing a fitness belief that the mind is the most important muscle a person needs to develop. “I believe that the body is a slave to our minds and will do anything we tell it to do”. Ngo further says “when I decided to enter the Golden Gloves tournament at the age of 31, my friends laughed at me, people in the boxing gym laughed at me, but I believed in myself. None of them are laughing now.” However, the country of his heritage never left his heart. When he's not in the gym, Ngo works with the non-profit he founded, Champion Spirit Foundation, which provides facilities in Nigeria where children can exercise and learn to box, free of charge, in an effort to raise their self-esteem. As if all that weren't enough, Ngo's stature and physique has made him a sought after model and actor, appearing alongside the likes of Gisele Bundchen, Mary J. Blige, and Lil' Kim in magazines such as Vogue, W, V, and WSJ. He recently appeared in the movie, “True Story”, with Jonah Hill and James Franco. Most importantly, he also makes time to get to the local park with his wife and young son. In this episode, you'll learn: Doing what makes your soul happy Life lessons from a 2x Golden Glove boxing champion. How Ngo strives to outwork everyone… and even get less sleep so he can do more. Acting is an art that is learned through experience and good teachers. The art of acting is a representation of humanity. Often those outside 'Hollywood' and the stage overlook the complexity of what makes a great actor. That's where Michelle Danner comes in. She is one of the leading acting coaches helping the 'A-list' of actors from the stage to the TV Shows and Movies we watch. As a teacher, she co-founded the Los Angeles Acting Conservatory and the Edgar Center for the Arts. She can often be found at leading film festivals around the world. Her new film 'The Runner' premiered at the Conquest Film Festival in March. What makes this movie special is while it was filmed prior to Covid, all the editing and final production were finished after the lockdowns of the pandemics. In today's show we talk about what it was like growing up in the world of European Cinema, teaching actors, creating and directing movies, The Golden Box of Acting, the world of film festivals, and some personal stories of working with the leading actors and actresses in the world.Michelle's LinksWebsite: https://www.michelledanner.comThe Runner: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5886520/
