Welcome back to the Sisterhood of Sweat podcast, where we celebrate the power of women coming together to support and uplift one another. Today, we have a very special guest joining us - Ben Winston, the acclaimed producer behind the iconic Grammy Awards show. Now, you may be wondering, what does a male producer have to do with the Sisterhood of Sweat? Well, as you'll soon discover, Ben's story and insights are incredibly relevant to the women in our community. Ben has built an impressive career in the entertainment industry, but what sets him apart is his unwavering commitment to collaboration, kindness, and embracing change. In our conversation, he shares the valuable lessons he's learned about surrounding yourself with experts, continuously learning, and the transformative power of connection. His perspective on navigating the ups and downs of the industry, as well as his advice for aspiring professionals, are sure to resonate with the ambitious, driven women in our audience. Ben's humility and passion for his craft are truly inspiring, and we know his words will leave you feeling empowered and ready to take on new challenges. So get ready to be motivated, uplifted, and reminded of the importance of embracing your unique path. Let's dive in and hear from the one and only Ben Winston. What I asked: What do you find to be the most enjoyable part, your favorite part of putting this whole [Grammys] show together? What is the difference between the best record of the year and the best album of the year? Do you also pick gospel music? Is that part of this? This the awards as a genre? What do you find to be the most challenging part about getting this and putting this all together? What do you attribute your being this successful at such a young age? Did you dream of doing this when you were a kid? What do you think your secret was to getting these big jobs, you know, for people that are there right now that want to excel in their careers, what do you think was the secret to moving ahead in this industry? What were the things that you did differently, you think, than other late night shows? I was listening to an interview where you talked about when you were first getting your start, like that, you would work for free sometimes, and get coffee. You did whatever you had to do. And I think people are looking for opportunity, thinking it's going to drop like from manna from the sky. Speak to that a little bit? Quotes: "As soon as you start thinking of yourself as successful, then you probably aren't that successful because you're taking your way off the work." "I've always felt like I'm learning. I will learn something new this weekend at the Grammys." "The thing that made us different was having James Corden, who was unknown in America but hugely famous in the UK." "The decisions you make at 17 or 18 can change your life, usually years later." There is a federal law (enacted as a result of Trump's first term) that Congress must be given 30 days notice before an inspector general can be fired. Laws be damned. Trump and his team fired at least 12 inspectors general over the weekend. These jobs at federal agencies came about after Watergate and were meant to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse in the government. Inspectors General hold agencies to account and help keep everything on up and up. Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warn that this IG firing is Donald Trump's way of showing he's terrified of accountability. We'll check in with iHeart TV and radio political analyst Gary Dietrich to get his take. This week on the Active Self Protection Podcast we sit down with self defender Hart and discuss the night he was walking home from a late shift when he took a shortcut and immediately regretted it. Active Self Protection exists to help good, sane, sober, moral, prudent people in all walks of life to more effectively protect themselves and their loved ones from criminal violence. On the ASP Podcast you will hear the true stories of life or death self defense encounters from the men and women that lived them. If you are interested in the Second Amendment, self defense and defensive firearms use, martial arts or the use of less lethal tools used in the real world to defend life and family, you will find this show riveting. Join host and career federal agent Mike Willever as he talks to real life survivors and hear their stories in depth. You'll hear about these incidents and the self defenders from well before the encounter occurred on through the legal and emotional aftermath. Music: bensound.com
This week the ladies sit down with Timothy Olyphant! Timothy Olyphant is known for a wide range of film and television roles including the award winning shows “Deadwood” and “Justified”. We of course loved him as Dunder Mifflin's traveling salesman, Danny Cordray. Jenna, Angela and Timothy chat about his early days in show business and what it was like playing Danny and working on the set of “The Office”. We also ask Timothy the call sheet questions and Jenna and Timothy get into a discussion about bread making, (we might need a spin off podcast called Bread with Timothy). Angela reminds Timothy of a time they drank bourbon on Late Night with Conan O'Brien (she thought it was fakey bourbon, it was not). Timothy is an absolute delight, maybe we do need to take this show on the road! Look out Southwest terminal in Austin because "Office Ladies on the Road with Timothy" might be heading your way.
