The guest is a favorite of mine, Paul Bloom, a psychologist who specializes in moral psychology, particularly in children. If anyone was going to find a chastity belt for your phone, of course it will be Wip. Who knew these even existed? Apparently they help you stay off your phone... Plus Scott Cam joined us live to give us all the goss on The Block and what it was like for him to live in Phillip Island and get recognized while just trying to buy his Woolworths roast chook. And Wippa claimed he took only three hours to complete the City2Surf, but we found his time and it was actually 4 hours and 55 minutes. How embarro. Here, I am delighted to report that I have full support, with Chino very much on side and Shaun happy to be on that train too… after last week's Chastity Belt flat refusal, I was due a win… check out what Shaun and Chino have to say on the matter. From my own dining epiphanies to Kristie's plans for skin-contact white wines, we celebrate the release—and quick disappearance—of the Tessier 2022 Soul Love, leaving us yearning for just one more sip. Revel in the stories of Alsatian delights and get a peek behind the curtain of the natural wine movement, paired with a hearty dose of transparency talk and its impact on the wine industry.Ever wondered how a graphic health warning might change your next bottle of wine? We take a deep look at government's hand in alcohol consumption awareness, comparing the potential effects on the industry to the seismic shifts caused by similar warnings in the tobacco world. Kristie helps us navigate the cultural ripples from Ireland to South America, and we ponder whether the pursuit of transparency will shake up our buying habits as profoundly as the latest scientific findings disrupt public perception. And for those with a taste for the novel, we explore the tantalizing realm of CBD-infused wines, considering whether they're complicating or enhancing our imbibing experience. To top off the episode, I share the comedies and melodies currently fueling my life—think Lonely Island and Waxahatchee, with a dash of Chastity Belt for good measure. There were not, in the Middle Ages, any chastity belts. They did not exist. Really, they didn't. They show up later, when enlighted ages say that they were used in the Middle Ages. Then, enlightened ages invented them, and now you can buy them on Amazon. Michelle explains how we know they didn't exist, and how they got invented, and why the later ages that invented them said the Middle Ages did it. Anne, on the other hand, had a lot of fun researching the state of chastity belts now. Oh, and that hacking episode. Pro tip: don't attach your private parts to the internet.

Julia Shapiro and Gretchen Grimm are one half of Seattle's noisy dream pop legends, Chastity Belt. Their 5th album, Live Laugh Love (out March 29th via Suicide Squeeze Records) is a dreamy layering of guitars, vocals and gentle rhythms that guide the listener through both emotional sincerity and lighthearted nostalgia, all with the sheen of cheekiness that the band has celebrated from the beginning. Julia and Gretchen share the process and inspiration behind the new record, its cover art, and how the power of simplicity guided the recording. The three discuss biking in Seattle, essential skills learned on the road and their relationship with music in their formative years. For the first time we take a few questions from friend of show John Atkins that leads to a thorough education on The Harp Twins and how to make a Renaissance Faire hat on the cheap. As always we hear a few tunes from the record. Chastity Belt Suicide Squeeze Episode supported by Distrokid Episode supported by Izotope

Another week's end, another show from Lucia. She plays some old favourites including a hark back to her first ever Morning Glory show, a Courtney Barnett version of Chastity Belt's Different Now, as well as some brand-new vinyl including Nina Simone's beautiful live album You've Got To Learn recorded at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1966. An in depth and irreverent look at 90's TV classic Dawson's Creek hosted by Kathryn and Katie. This week, we're hurtling towards the end of the season and very little seems to be actually happening… Pacey is interacting with Audrey Horne from Twin Peaks (or Tamara Pt 2 if you will), Joey is trying to get rid of Charlie and Dawson and Oliver inexplicably seem to have managed to reschedule that big important meeting they should have never cancelled in the first place. We're chatting the actress who plays Alex (Pearl Necklace), a great Status Quo joke, whether Dawson's Creek is sponsored by Levi's and another reedy vocal performance. So, let's get fired or not get fired, mess up a meeting then save it and want Charlie but not actually want Charlie and wonder what the hell is actually going on (nothing. The answer is nothing). Telehealth - Taliesin Grid a 2023 single on Very Famous. Telehealth is the Seattle-based project of Alexander Attitude (Deep Sea Diver, Brian John Appleby) and Kendra Cox (Lemolo) that make Devo-esque synthscapes targeting capitalism and the absurdities of our modern world. Their debut album Content Oscillator was released in March and specifically delves into Alexander Attitude's transition from musician to architect and back to musician, after discovering his disillusionment with their utopian visions and the aesthetics of sustainability which consequently became a tool for developers to sit comfortably within a political domain that is essentially capitalist and centrist. Our Song of the Day “Taliesin Grid” specifically hones in on this idea. “Straight line, black suit /Just when you see it, start to move /Not made, great men /Stuck in repetition,” Attitude declares in monotone over arpeggiated synths. He continues on, “A name that still survives /Dank Lloyd Wright /Architects they come, yeah /Architects they go /But materials finite.” Content Oscillator features production from Trevor Spencer (Valley Maker, Spirit Award, Deep Sea Diver, Chastity Belt) and mastering by the legendary Ed Brooks. Who Is She? - My My Orca Card a 2023 single on Father/Daughter. Seattle supergroup Who Is She?, made up of Bree McKenna of Tacocat, Robin Edwards AKA Lisa Prank, and Chastity Belt frontwoman Julia Shapiro, have been making sweetly sardonic music since 2017, when they released their debut record Seattle Gossip. After a few years of silence from the trio, the band went from Who Is She? to Where Are They? (Admittedly, busy with their other bands.) But they came back in a big way when they were invited to be the house band for Seattle's newly established hockey team The Kraken for a weekend and played “My My Orca Card” at “Jeff Bezos' Climate Pledge Arena.” A reimagining of Le Tigre's 1999 song “My My Metrocard,” the song takes aim at Amazon's head honcho and multi-billionaire Bezos. “Oh, no /Jeffrey Bezos /He's such /A total jerk /Shut down /all the bookstores /Billionaires /Do not work.” They were swiftly fired after one night of playing the song, making it the most punk, anti-establishment music moment to happen in Seattle in far too long. Hear more about the story of how this legendary moment came to be in KEXP's Dusty Henry's interview with the band prior to their performance and watch Lisa Prank's KEXP in-studio session from 2016 at KEXP.org.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Seattle supergroup Who Is She (members of Chastity Belt, Tacocat, and Lisa Prank) were slated last week for a residency performing at the Kraken hockey games at Climate Pledge Arena. The band only made it one performance before they were asked to not come back after singing a song calling Amazon founder Jeff Bezos a “total jerk.” Prior to these developments, KEXP's Dusty Henry did a tongue-in-cheek interview with the band about their love of hockey and jock jams.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/sound/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Our guest today is Julia Shapiro. Julia is a musician who is perhaps best known as the lead singer and guitarist in the band Chastity Belt, which formed in Washington state in 2010. Chastity Belt have released four studio albums, including, most recently, 2019's self-titled record. Julia's work isn't just limited to that band, though, she's also part of the group Childbirth and has released solo records too. A key theme throughout her work, Julia says, is her Elliott Smith influence, which we, of course, discuss in this interview. We also talk about her views on Elliott's songwriting style and why she's never stopped listening to his music. Hope you enjoy the episode! Wesley calls us about a girl named Kyla who he matched with on Hinge—this beautiful brunette who's smart and super sweet. They got to know each other by messaging a little from the app and a couple of phone calls here and there. So they decided to finally meet up in person and grab dinner at 53 By The Sea—this upscale seafood restaurant. He picked her up from her place and the connection from then to the end of the date was amazing. They even ended up going back to his place for a nightcap—and no, nothing happened. He was a gentleman. When he dropped her off back at her place, he told her he'd love to see her again and she said the same, though he sensed something was a bit off. When he tried reaching out some time after, it feels like she's been breadcrumbing him. He wants to know what happened.
