In the summer of 2001, something strange began appearing on the rooftops of Delhi.Witnesses described a hairy humanoid with glowing red eyes, metallic claws, impossible jumping abilities and, in some accounts, a helmet, illuminated buttons and mechanical roller skates. The reports spread across the city, police patrols filled the streets, frightened residents formed armed neighborhood watches, and people were seriously injured trying to escape a creature that was never identified or captured.The official explanation is usually mass panic. That may explain the hundreds of rumors and mistaken sightings that followed, but it does not necessarily explain what started them. In this episode of Idiot Mystic, we reconstruct the Delhi Monkey-Man outbreak, examine the stranger witness accounts, compare it with other temporary “monster waves,” and ask whether collective fear merely invents creatures or sometimes gives unexplained phenomena a way to enter the world.There is also a cyborg monkey on roller skates, because reality occasionally becomes irritated by our attempts to discuss it seriously.

A monkey with striking orange lips and a black furry coat has been officially recognised as a new species in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was first spotted back in 2008, but at the time researchers only managed to capture a blurry photograph, leaving many questions unanswered. Years later, after extensive fieldwork and research, scientists have finally confirmed it as a species new to science.
