Cuban exile turned CIA operative Ricardo “Monkey” Morales justifies his moniker by orchestrating decades of chaos in the world of international espionage. The legend of Cuban exile turned US government operative Ricardo Morales Navarrete has been known in espionage circles for decades. Dubbed “The Monkey” for his disruptive and unpredictable escapades, Morales grabbed headlines for decades as tales of his bombings, arrests, assassination attempts (both those he executed and those he suffered), and testimony constructed a real-life spy adventure unlike anything brought to page or screen. His story delves into diverse aspects of American history, including our nation's conflict with Cuba, our anti-communism military support overseas, JFK's story before and after the Bay of Pigs, and the explosion of the illegal narcotics industry in 1970s Miami. Morales was a contract agent for the CIA and a valuable asset for the FBI; he even shared how he'd met Lee Harvey Oswald at a CIA camp in Florida before JFK's assassination. Morales's counterintelligence skills-for-hire were also a prized utility for Cuban drug kingpins in Miami, many of whom were discarded ex-CIA operatives.Monkey Morales blends James Bond, Rambo, and Scarface—a concoction of danger, politics, and family drama told in its entirety for the first time by authors Sean Oliver and Morales's son, Ricardo Morales, Jr.https://amzn.to/48fcltTBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

There are various ways of referring to the old way of telling time used in Japan that was based on the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. The two most common terms are kojikoku (古時刻) and jūnijishin (十二時辰). Much of the information this episode was based on was gathered from the Japanese-language sources below. Jūnijishin (十二時辰) This is the Japanese-language Wikipedia entry. 昔の時間の古時刻・十二時辰とは?初刻や正刻の鐘の意味は This is an in-depth article focusing on the old system used in Japan for telling time. Although it is not as thorough as the Japanese language articles above, the Japan Times article below does give some general information on the old Chinese Zodiac based system of telling the time that Japan used to use. Telling time with animals In the Chinese Zodiac-based way of telling time the day would start with the hour of the rat (ne no koku) and end with the hour of the boar (i no koku). Below you can see the terms used for all 12 animals/time divisions) and what two hour block each corresponds to. Also it should be noted that both English and Japanese-language sources are unclear on when exactly each two hour block of time begins. In general sources go with wording like "between 11 and 1," thus I have been unable to determine with 100% certainty if, for example, the last minute of the hour of the rat is 12:59 (which seems more likely) or 1:00. While this degree of precision was likely not a matter of concern for most people when this method of telling time was still being used, the question of when exactly each block of time ends is nevertheless one that remains and is unfortunately not solved in the information below. 11:00 p.m - 1:00 a.m. Rat 子 (鼠) ne 1:00 a.m. - 3:00 a.m. Ox 丑 (牛) ushi 3:00 a.m. - 5:00 a.m. 寅 (虎) tora 5:0 am. - 7:00 a.m. Rabbit 卯 (兎) u 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Dragon 辰 (竜) tatsu 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Snake 巳 (蛇) mi 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Horse 午 (馬) uma 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. Sheep 未 (羊) hitsuji 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monkey 申 (猿) 酉 saru 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Rooster 酉 (鳥) tori 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Dog 戌 (犬) inu 9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Boar 亥 (猪) i Information about the two articles by Salvador Jimenez Murguia that were mentioned in this episode can be found below. This week on Smashing Secrets Feng Shui, Chloe and Jo ride the wave from a very real forest-fire moment (with a heroic cat Theo) to the soothing science of Blue Mind, before landing on your feng shui guide for September. We unpack the shift from Monkey month → Rooster month (starts 7 September) in a Snake year, what that means for BaZi (Chinese astrology), and how to work with yin wood over yin metal for clarity, creativity and calmer communication. In this episode Storytime: Chloe stumbles on a live fire in Epping Forest and rallies help (and records an interview!)—a lesson in intuition, earth energy and serendipity. Energy weather: What the Rooster month brings in a Snake year—endings → beginnings, polish, elegance, communication upgrades. Element check-in: Why yin wood creativity meets yin metal refinement—and when to lean on Water if your Day Master is Yin Metal. Blue Mind 101: Remembering Dr Wallace J. Nichols—why being in/near/on/under water calms the nervous system (and how to tap it when anxiety spikes). Nature prescriptions: Forest bathing, barefoot grounding, and why September–November wood energy loves you outside more than “activating” wood sectors at home this month. Feng shui compass tips (September): Luckiest sectors: South, South-West, West, North Trickier sectors: North-East, East, South-East, North-West → add appropriate remedies and go gently Your diary, sorted — 3 “banging” good dates (for everyone): 9 September (best 15:00–17:00 and 19:00–21:00) — success, heavenly happiness, relationship uplift 17 September — romance, weddings, stability, long-term moves, study starts, investments 23 September — openings, acquisitions, business launches; communications smooth as Rooster energy beds in Key takeaways September Rooster Month Feng Shui: Expect refinement, polish, and better communication after the 23rd. Chinese Astrology (BaZi) tips: Strong yin wood can feel pressurised against yin metal—support with Water (Blue Mind practices). Feng Shui Directions September: Prioritise S/ SW/ W/ N; apply cures in NE/ E/ SE/ NW. Wellbeing: Use water, nature, forest bathing, grounding to regulate and inspire. Lucky Dates September: 9th, 17th, 23rd—bookmark for proposals, launches, romance, and big conversations. What do filthy teeth, cable cars, sugar-crazed monkeys, and salad dripping through a handbag at 30,000 feet have in common? More than you think. In this wild ride of an episode, we dive into the gross, the hilarious, and the downright shocking moments that expose how sugar isn't just a “treat”, it's a force hijacking our brains, bodies, and even our families. From monkeys going feral over candy to kids bouncing off the walls on Capri Suns, we draw the line between the animal kingdom and our checkout aisles. You'll definitely rethink the snacks in your pantry. Buckle up, this one swings from outrageous travel stories to life-changing truths about health, addiction, and why sugar might just be the most dangerous pet we've all let into our homes. Join Pearl and Serene on the Trim Healthy Podcast (a.k.a. “The Poddy”). Savanna's back from her wild world tour—healed, not rested—and ready to tell all. From being attacked by a monkey (yes, really) to navigating rabies shots and surviving the most expensive surf resort in Bali, this episode is chaos, laughter, and life lessons.
