THE STAN BORESON-TENNIAL fun continues with this BORESON BONUS EPISODE, courtesy of Tom McArthur, who produced this circa 1981 half-hour show featuring an interview with Stan plus lots and lots of deep cuts from the Boreson catalog. When Mr. McArthur shared this audio with CASCADE OF HISTORY, he wrote: “KPLU had a weekly arts magazine show, at the time - FM88 ArtsPlace - they were always looking for content. As a part-time work-study employee, I suggested shows on Stan Boreson, the Irish Rovers, and others - and they let me do them! I remember borrowing the KPLU station field recorder and riding the bus up to Seattle to interview Stan in his office. He was amiable, kind, and more than generous with his time. Those were the days of old-school audio editing with grease pens and razor blades. I learned then that a microphone was a great way to meet people I never would have had the nerve to approach without it. Audio/video has been a big part of my life's work ever since. Thank you for honoring Stan on your platform. -Tom (a Stanophile and Patches Pal)” CASCADE OF HISTORY is broadcast LIVE most Sunday nights at 8pm Pacific Time via SPACE 101.1 FM in Seattle and gallantly streams everywhere via space101fm.org. A new law waiting to be signed by the governor would give you more options when your technology breaks. House Bill 1483 establishes a “right to repair” for consumer electronics, including tech like phones, laptops, and home appliances. Its partner bill in the Senate (SB 5680) also establishes the right to repair electric wheelchairs. This is part of a larger, nationwide movement to create more accessible technology. If the governor signs these bills into law, Washington will be the seventh state to have a right to repair on the books. But, what exactly will this mean for Washingtonians? And how could this change things when your phone next takes a dive into Lake Washington? Guests: Representative Mia Gregerson was the lead sponsor of House Bill 1483. She represents Washington’s 33rd district, which includes Burien, Normandy Park, Seatac, Des Moines, and parts of Renton Amanda Miller, Executive Director of South King Tool Library Related Links: Repair Economy Washington Thank you to the supporters of KUOW, you help make this show possible! As Mr. Chopp says in the interview, "Saving [this] apartment complex - it's not historically significant or architecturally significant - but the community is what's significant. So when we preserve something, it's not just a building, it's the community that's living there. And that's extremely important, to keep that sense of community together."
