Muy influenciados por la psicodelia, fusionaron con maestría estilos como el folk, rock, blues, jazz o country y los disfrutamos con: KURT VILE & THE VIOLATORS (con J. Mascis) - Box Of Rain (American Beauty) THE WAR ON DRUGS - Touch of Grey (In The Dark) HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER – Brown Eyed Women (Europe´72 / From The Mars Hotel) THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH - Ship of Fools (From The Mars Hotel) MOSES SUMNEY, JENNY LEWIS & FRIENDS – Cassidy (Reckoning) THE WALKMEN – Ripple (American Beauty) BONNIE "PRINCE" BILLY - If I Had the World to Give (Shakedown Street) PHOSPHORESCENT (con JENNY LEWIS & FRIENDS) – Sugaree (García) THE NATIONAL - Morning Dew (Grateful Dead) COURTNEY BARNETT - New Speedway Boggie (Workingman´s Dead) THIS IS THE KIT - Jack-A-Roe (Reckoning) THE LONE BELOW & FRIENDS - Me and My Uncle (Skull and Roses) ED DROSTE (con BINKI SHAPIRO & FRIENDS) – Loser (García) UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA - Shakedown Street (Shakedown Street) WILCO (con BOB WEIR) - St. Stephen (Aoxomoxoa) PERFUME GENIUS, SHARON VAN ETTEN & FRIENDS - To Lay Me Down (Reckoning)

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a lively chat between Philly friends Kurt Vile and Francie Medosch. Medosch is the singer and main creative force behind the band Florry, which exists in the same sonic universe as Courtney Barnett and the currently exploding MJ Lenderman—loose, rocking, a little bit jammy, a little bit indie, and frequently catchy as hell. The Lenderman connection makes even more sense when you realize that the upcoming Florry album was recorded with help from Colin Miller, who plays in Lenderman's band and has recorded music from the band Wednesday. That upcoming Florry album is called Sounds Like… and it's due out May 23 on Dear Life Records. It's a corker, kinda rambly and rockin' in all the right ways. You can pre-save and pre-order at all the usual spots. Check out the song “Hey Baby” right here. The other half of today's chat is a longtime supporter of Florry's, fellow Philadelphian Kurt Vile. Vile first came out swinging as part of the War on Drugs way back when, but pretty quickly established himself as a genius of hazy, dazed guitar songs pitched somewhere between the ‘70s squall of Neil Young and more contemporary indie-rock. As you'll hear in this chat, Vile is working—at his own pace, of course—on the follow-up to 2022's Watch My Moves. Whenever it's finished, it's sure to be intriguing, like all of his work. In this chat, Vile and Medosch talk about their shared hometown as well as the fact that Medosch recently moved to Vermont and is working in both a dispensary and a record store—kind of a perfect combo to describe her music, come to think of it. They also chat about a lot of stuff that they love, including John Prine, the recently departed Michael Hurley, and the deeply lovable Bob Odenkirk, who Vile was very excited to meet recently. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast and thanks to Kurt Vile and Francie Medosch for chatting. People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith is taking over Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Luminaries including Bruce Springsteen, Michael Stipe, Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, Ben Harper, Kim Gordon, Flea, The National's Matt Berninger, Susanna Hoffs, Chrissie Hynde, and many others are participating in the festivities. https://musicof.org/ And, damn, if this epic event didn't make us think about our VIDEO with Amy Brenneman telling her story of a very awkward encounter while trying to snap a selfie with Patti in front of a live audience at Stephen Stills' Autism Speaks event. Word to the wise...don't do it! WATCH HERE: https://youtube.com/shorts/DwbYjiVEg68 Plus, in this episode Amy recounts being the first person ever to take off their clothes on network TV; offbeat moments with legends Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Joel Grey, and Sylvester Stallone; and, in all seriousness, what it means to be a good man in show business (and anywhere else). On this week's show, we cellebrate the therapeutic nature of out-of-town rock shows with old friends, let there be rock with Drive-By Truckers, wake up to albums we slept on by Tuxedo and Chuck Prophet, and and spin fresh tracks from Parlor Greens, Waxahatchee & The Waterboys. All this & much, much less! Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is over 2 rock-solid hours of musical eclectica & other noodle stories. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004.

I am honored to be on Radio Promotor Angela Backstrom's contact list for new music being released by the amazing cadre of Americana/Roots Artists she represents. Angela reached out to me to arrange a phone interview to highlight Kiely Connell's appearance at Kansas City's recordBar venue in support of her amazing sophomore record “My Own Company.” I went down the rabbit hole, as I so often do in preparation for this conversation. I was entranced by Kiely's voice, her affinity for some of my personal favorites like Courtney Marie Andres and Patsy Cline, and her totally relatable lyricism. Kiely Connell is a Nashville-based, rustbelt-born Country singer who has widened her musical horizons by recording My Own Company in Portland, Oregon with producer Tucker Martine (Roseanne Cash, Courtney Barnett, Madison Cunningham). It is a gritty and generous display of heartbreakingly honest lyricism, powerhouse vocals, and a deep-dive into recovering after heartbreak, staring down the barrel of depression, and coming out the other side…to choose oneself. Instrumental backing provided from bassist Nate Query (the Decembrists), drummer Andrew Borger (Tom Waits, Norah Jones) and long term musical companion and guitarist Drew Kohl. In Connell's own words, “It's about a love that you work so hard on that doesn't work out in the end, so you ultimately end up working on yourself. You learn that the most important relationship is the one you have with yourself.” Enjoy this conversation with Nashville's Kiely Connell.

Escuchar audio

Ka mua, ka muri. To walk into the future facing backwards. What exactly does that mean? If you let your imagination explore that idea for a second you might start to get an idea. How do we, specifically pākehā New Zealanders, move into the future with an eye on our history, personal, national, religious etc, to help guide our actions. What implications does this have for how we live? Join Petra Bagust in this episode as she explores the whakatauki of ka mua, ka muri. Petra's first guest is Dr Alistair Reese. Alistair gave the dawn service kauhau/sermon at Waitangi Day 2024 and has a PhD in Theology titled 'Reconciliation and the Quest for Pākehā Identity in Aotearoa New Zealand'. He has a new book out, all about the history of the relationship between Māori and Pākehā (with a specific focus on the church) called He Tatau Pounamu. You can buy a copy here. Petra is also joined by Elliot Collins. Artist, teacher and Dr (another one!), Petra wanted to talk to her friend Elliot to find out what it means to him to live as a treaty partner in day to day life. Our newest member of the 'Three Timer Club,' renowned music journalist / author / photographer Michael Goldberg, joins us this week to discuss some of the most iconic images of the classic alternative era. What are some of the photos, logos, and icons that come to YOUR mind? The first-ever collection of Addicted To Noise founder and former Rolling Stone senior writer Michael Goldberg's photographs, Jukebox: Photographs 1967-2023 (Hozac Books), features an impressive array of underground figures and outcast luminaries captured in their natural habitat, most seen here for the first time anywhere. Bridging the gaps between the late ‘60s psychedelic era, primitive first-wave ‘70s punk and soul & reggae, as well as never-before seen images of country & folk iconoclasts and rule-breakers across the spectrum of all that is captivating, and even including some modern artists still making waves, Jukebox is a riveting photography collection that truly feels as good as it looks. The photos in JUKEBOX are drawn from the thousands he's taken over the years. Included are photos of the Sex Pistols, Crime, the Ramones, the Avengers, Devo, the Nuns, the Clash, Tom Verlaine, Lou Reed, John Cale and the Dils as well as Tom Waits, Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile, Janis Joplin, Ben Gibbard, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Muddy Waters, Toots and the Maytals, Patti Smith, Bettye LaVette, the Who, Neil Young, Jonathan Richman, Townes Van Zandt, the Flamin' Groovies, and many many more. Photos from JUKEBOX will be on display from July 25 through September 22, 2024 at the Haight Street Art Center in San Francisco, where the exhibition, We Are the One: San Francisco Punk 1970s & 1980s, curated by Goldberg, will also be featured during those two months. For this episode of Sounds Seen we're joined by Jemma Burns and Charlie Lempriere of Pulse Points, to speak about their work on the Netflix reboot of the Australian TV series Heartbreak High. Drawing from their storied experience in music, specifically in the Australian scene, Jemma and Charlie have created a soundtrack for the series that reflects back what it means to be a high school kid in Australia - taking influence from around the world but leaning into the dynamism and richness of the Australian music scene across the spectrum - including The Veronicas, DJ Plead, Courtney Barnett and Troye Sivan. We talk about how Australia is having a moment right now (musically and culturally), how music is perhaps THE key tool when trying to resonate with younger generation audiences, and Charlie also explains how he got his start as a music supervisor.
There are heavy hitters, and then there's The Dirty Three. A trio comprising violinist Warren Ellis, guitarist Mick Turner, and drummer Jim White, these Australian independent rock legends recently returned with their first album in 12 year, the aptly titled Love Changes Everything. Though they are perhaps best known for their work with artists like Nick Cave (Warren is a foundational Bad Seeds member and works with Cave in a variety of other contexts), Cat Power, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Bill Callahan, and Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett, a very particular magic happens when they gather together. It's on full display on the new record, which does everything you hope a D3 record will: it rocks, it drifts, and it ventures boldly toward the unknown. That magic comes down to...well, as you'll learn in this episode, it's very tricky to pin down where magic—or love for that matter—comes from, and it only grows more elusive the more you try to name it. This week on Transmissions, The Dirty Three explore their history, reflect on the life and work of Steve Albini, and recall their days opening for The Beastie Boys.
