Welcome to the Monday Breakfast show for October 14, 2024. On today's show: Rob spoke with Nina, one of the producers of the Untold Stories of Injustice podcast, a five-part podcast series produced here at 3CR Community Radio. The pair spoke about the prison industrial complex, how the podcast came to be, as well as barriers in creating such an important piece of media. Following that we play a clip from episode four of the Untold Stories of Injustice podcast titled 'The Injustice System'. The episode features a conversation between Formerly Incarcerated Girls; Justice Advocates Melbourne (FIGJAM) member Lyanne who spoke with Tizzie, an intensive outreach worker who fiercely advocates for girls, young women and non-binary folks in contact with justice system. Between their combined lived experience and practice wisdom regarding intersectionality, their understanding of the complexities that many vulnerable and marginalised people face is held with compassion and integrity. This enables a robust and thought-provoking conversation, picking apart themes & exploring in detail some of the common circumstances that push people into the injustice system. Explicitly naming the elephant in the room. Catch the full episode at 3cr.org.au/untoldstories or listen to the next episode on 9AM this Friday.Eric interviewed candidate for Lord Mayor Jamal Hakim and his deputy Esther Anatolitis, discussing the struggles facing community-led art spaces in the CBD. They discussed their 'Future Postcode 3000' initiative, which aims to address the exodus of arts spaces from the CBD and how they plan to support and revitalize community-led arts and creative spaces in the city. The show ends with a replay of Rob's conversation with Keiran Stewart-Assheton, President of the Black Peoples Union to coincide with the anniversary of the Voice to Parliament results being announced. The conversation took place before the results were announced last year and covers the Voice to Parliament itself as well as how its campaigns affected the Blak Sovereignty and Liberation movements across the continent. "Apart from that I love it, and in a lot of ways it was the first album that I fell in love with without influence from my family, it also feels weirdly “too close” in the current political climate. John Colapinto of Rolling Stone wrote about the album that it "gives voice to the disenfranchised suburban underclass of Americans who feel wholly unrepresented by the current leadership of oilmen and Ivy Leaguers, and who are too smart to accept the "reality" presented by news media who sell the government's line of fear and warmongering." And If that's not the world we are living in now…It was an album that changed me as a person, a freshman in high school in a lot of ways discovering who I was for the first time, this album became my anthem for a time and was the soundtrack behind a new version of myself and my departure from youth." -Abby Thank you so much for listening to this episode of the Album Files! We will be back in two weeks to discuss the latest round of listener picks: Japanese Breakfast's Jubilee (suggested by jlb1705), Alt-J's An Awesome Wave (suggested by Brooke Lendvay), and Camp Cope's How to Socialise and Make Friends (suggested by Andy Gerrie). We'd love to hear your thoughts, if you want to send us a voice memo to include in the show you can find our social media links below. What we've been listening to lately... Welcome to another iteration of the Monday Breakfast show, presented and produced by Rob Harrison and Grace Tan. This week we bring you four segments from across the spectrum of radical news. As Israel's genocidal conquest of Palestine continues to play out, the ways in which governments and companies all over the globe are complicit are simultaneously becoming transparent. One of those companies can be found right here in so-called melbourne. They're known as HTA Global. Rob spoke with Liz from Renegade Activists to talk about how. Come along to protest HTA Global's involvement in Israel's genocide of Palestinians on 11AM this Friday the 9th of February at 43B Lara Way, Campbellfield.Following that interview we revisited Grace's interview from last week's show with Dr Adrian Farrugia, Senior Research Fellow in the Drugs, Gender and Sexuality program at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University. They discussed whether pill testing is the answer to reducing harm of drug use and Australian youth drug education. We then played a speech by Uncle Robbie Thorpe, a fellow 3CR presenter. at yesterday's Free Palestine rally. You can catch him on the Bunjil's Fire show every Wednesday from 11am to 2pm. Rallies for a Free Palestine are ongoing every Sunday at 12pm at the State Library, please continue to show up for the people of Palestine. Finally we heard Cam Walker, from Friends of the Earth, speaking to Annie McLoughlin of Solidarity Breakfast to discuss FOE's plan for a 'Climate Ready Victoria'. You can listen to Solidarity Breakfast every Saturday from 7:30 to 9AM. Songs played: 'Perfect Home' by Diana Wolfe'Flesh and Electricity' by Camp Cope

From the start, Camp Cope have won over fans with their open-hearted songs about love, loss, sex, and sexism. Their latest release, Running With The Hurricane, is a gentler record, released at a time when we could all use a little gentleness, but of course, it's no less honest. In the Drawing Room, Georgia McDonald and Kelly Hellmrich discuss origin stories and vocal tips.

Camp Cope - "Running With the Hurricane" from the 2022 album Running with the Hurricane on Run For Cover. Melbourne, Australia-based trio Camp Cope find the calm within the storm on their latest full-length Running with the Hurricane. While their 2018 album How to Socialise & Make Friends channeled the intensity of '90s artists like Alanis Morissette or Courtney Love, the new LP takes a quieter approach. During the pandemic, guitarist/vocalist Georgia Maq returned to her post-rock world of nursing. Her work in COVID-19 testing and vaccine administration had an impact on her songwriting. As she explained to NPR, "Before when we'd made records, it was just like, 'Let's just record us live so that when people see us live, they won't be disappointed.' This was more like, 'Well, we're all gonna die of coronavirus, so let's just try to make something quite beautiful.'"

Rachel begins this episode with a brief statement on the #BlackLivesMatter movement; we all need to take on this mission wholeheartedly. Donate! After what can only be considered a jarring shift in tone, Rachel and Kevin kick off previously-recorded Episode 18 of the blogcast. After a brief intro to his new podcast in production "Devin and Kevin Stop Making Sense" (08:23), Kevin transitions into his h.e.r. reflections of the week (10:50). Kev and Rach touch on everything from perspective in times of hardshipw & Clinton Hall reminiscing, to quarantine hairstyles & Instagram bio politics. Next, Kevin requests his very own Swoon of the Week segment! At (24:52), Kev gushes about Camp Cope and the female Australian rocker of his dreams. Then, Rachel gives a rundown on the newest Bravoleb hottie on the block: Gavin Stewart of Camp Getaway. Next up: this week's Content Catchup (37:12) - Harry Potter, Avatar: The Last Airbender ("greatest story ever told"), Portlandia, Community, hyper-specific Spotify playlists, & coming-of-age NYC-set novels. Rachel and Kevin start to wrap up Part 1 at (44:27) with a discussion of Millennial vs. Gen Z. Are we all just terrified of repeating past generations' mistakes? Then, at (50:19), Rachel gives a brief Love Update: is the pandemic turning us all into f***boys? As always, thank you for listening! And be sure to tune in next week, when Kevin Verga is back to discuss all things PASSION!
