Ep. 8 Scott Marquart - Stringjoy

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 22, 2019 66:01

In this episode AJ talks with Scott Marquart, founder and CEO of Stringjoy. The string is one of the most overlooked and underrated pieces of gear in the eyes of most musicians today. As Scott goes in depth about the string making process and the history and vision of the company, it's easy to see what sets Stringjoy apart from other, much larger competitors and why you shouldn't put just any old string on your instrument.Instagram @arob__13@not.so.nashville@stringjoyEmailajcannonnsn13@gmail.comscott@stringjoy.comWebsitesstringjoy.com

Whether you play gigs multiple times a week, once a month, or twice a year, you know that you're always in for a surprise; sometimes good, sometimes bad. The best way I can describe how to be prepared is to expect the unexpected. In this episode I talk about my last four gigs which were all VERY different from one another and interesting to say the least. I give some insight on how to solve problems and hold it together when it's all falling apart. Whether you play guitar, bass, keys, drums, or some other instrument, we all want the same thing; to sound good, look good, and make it as easy as possible to do so. I recently overhauled my bass rig. Ten months and a couple thousand dollars later I have a setup that I would be comfortable playing just about any gig with and it was worth every second and every penny getting to that point! Take the journey with me as I recount each step of my quest for tone, functionality, and style. You might just learn a few things along the way! (Mostly what not to do) If you have questions, comments, or feedback I would love to hear from you! E-mail: ajcannonnsn13@gmail.com Instagram: @arob__13 @not.so.nashville @drascoband

In this episode I take you through a mix from tracking to my faux mastering chain. I thought it would be cool to give y'all an in depth look into some of the tools and techniques I use to record, mix, and master a song called "In My Bones" by my band, Drasco. Come along with me and maybe you'll learn how or how not to track and record a song! Send in your comments, questions, critiques, and topics you'd like to hear me address to ajcannonnsn13@gmail.com. Cliche' Gear Talk

This gets talked about ALOT so it's only natural for me to throw my opinions into the mix right? We all love gear. But with so many options, scrolling through internet forums or flipping through the Sweetwater catalog oftentimes leads us into a labyrinth of reviews and opinions and before we know it were 3 paragraphs deep on some guy's college thesis level comment about germanium clipping diodes that he posted in a thread on Ultimate Guitar while he was taking a break from living vicariously through his 12 year old JV all-star quarterback son. Hardly enlightening. In this episode I talk about a few guidelines to go by that can get you headed in the right direction when deciding what, where, and when to buy the next edition to your killer rig.
