Today, we're diving deep into a topic that many parents grapple with: why we might still be rocking or feeding our older babies and toddlers to sleep, even now that they're beyond the newborn stage. Let me just say this upfront: this is a non-judgmental space. No guilt, no shame—just exploration, awareness, and empowerment. If you know me or follow me online, you know I'm all about minimising stress in parenting. My ultimate goal is to help you thrive—whatever that looks like for you. Parenting is not one-size-fits-all, and your emotional well-being matters just as much as your child's. Stress impacts the quality of your parenting, and what works for you is just as important as what works for your child. This episode is all about bringing awareness to why we do what we do during sleep time and giving ourselves the grace to ask, “Does this still align with me? Does this still feel good?” Because, as we know, nothing changes if nothing changes. Once we're aware of why we're doing something, we have the power to decide: do we want to continue, or is it time to pivot? Here's what we'll unpack in today's conversation:Choice vs. Habit: Are we rocking or feeding to sleep because it aligns with our values, or is it something we feel “stuck” doing out of habit or fear?Knowledge Gaps: Understanding how self-soothing and natural sleep processes evolve in babies and toddlers, and how we can nurture this growth while staying responsive.Parenting Mindset: Recognising if control, fear, or societal pressure is playing a role in our sleep routines—and how to break free of those cycles. The Role of Support: Why a lack of support, whether from a partner, community, or resources, can make these routines feel like the only option.Empowerment Through Awareness: How to read your child's cues more clearly, trust yourself as a parent, and step into a confident, balanced approach to sleep. If today's episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Share your insights or questions with me, and let's keep this conversation going. Until next time, Thrivers—keep growing, keep thriving, and know that you're doing an amazing job.

Dropping In to Power: Personal stories of the transformational power of surfing from women of all levels, all ages, all over.

Are you ready to become your most confident, fluid, in-tune surfer? Go to 5:19 for a Surf Hypnosis Meditation - BUT NOT WHILE DRIVING!And now, a brief farewell, dear friends. I began these conversations three years ago with women surfers to find out if surfing had transformed them as profoundly as it had me. Check! It has been such a gift to interview dozens of ROCKING women, and be moved, and lifted, by their stories. As I reflect back over the conversations, I see one clear throughline: surfing is more alchemy than sport, or even therapy - it helps women tap into a sacred power source within ourselves. As a hypnotherapist, I am finding a similar alchemy. And so in this parting episode, I leave you with a Surf Hypnosis Meditation. It starts at 5:19 if you want to bookmark it , but please DON'T LISTEN TO THAT PART WHILE DRIVING! Find a comfortable position, tune out the world, and let your own powerful mind transform you into the surfer you truly want to be.  With all my love, you belong in the water!Sheila

We talk about their great new movie directed by Alex Ross Perry and then we pick our favorite songs by the magnificent slackers from Stockton. PLUS: Steve Reidell outdoes himself (trust us — you're gonna want to stick around for the final song). Happy voting, America!

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a list of members of Parliament who are either actively engaged with or at high risk of foreign interference, putting Parliament Hill in crisis. The bombshell disclosure came at Canada's Foreign Interference Inquiry, during which Trudeau expressed frustration at Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre's continued refusal to receive top-secret security briefings about the threat.   I have the names of a number of parliamentarians, former parliamentarians, and/or candidates in the Conservative Party of Canada, who are engaged or at high risk of, or for whom there is clear intelligence around foreign interference,"  PM Justin Trudeau under oath.   The Prime Minister emphasized that his government has directed CSIS to inform the Conservative Party leader about these security risks, but Poilievre's refusal to receive classified briefings means "nobody in his party, nobody in a position of power knows the names of these individuals and can take appropriate action." Indian Government's Deep Infiltration Exposed The revelations come amid mounting evidence of Indian government interference in Canadian politics. The RCMP has uncovered evidence linking Indian government agents to a campaign of violence, including homicides, coercion, and extortion on Canadian soil. In a dramatic development, Trudeau confirmed he confronted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about these allegations during what he described as a "very uncomfortable" conversation at the G20 summit. The Prime Minister disclosed that Indian diplomats and consular officials in Canada had allegedly leveraged their positions to engage in clandestine intelligence-gathering activities. Conservative Party Operative Under Investigation Adding to the growing scandal, recent reports indicate that Arpan Khanna, who served as Pierre Poilievre's Ontario co-chair during his successful leadership campaign, is under investigation by CSIS for potentially receiving support from the Indian government.  Khanna's nomination in the Oxford riding has come under particular scrutiny. Two senior riding officials resigned in protest, claiming the party leadership "hijacked" the process to favor Khanna. About Dean Blundell Dean Blundell, a legendary figure in Canadian broadcasting who hosted the boundary-pushing morning show on Toronto's 102.1 The Edge (2001-2014) and later Fan 590, has transformed from self-described "shock jock" to one of Canada's most important investigative voices through his Dean Blundell Show podcast and Crier Media empire. Under the Crier Media banner, which operates dozens of podcasts and works with a collective of reporters, journalists, and lawyers while maintaining complete independence by refusing government funding, Blundell has emerged as a leading investigator of foreign interference in Canadian politics, breaking significant stories about threats to democracy that mainstream media outlets often hesitate to cover, including early reporting on Pierre Poilievre's refusal to obtain national security clearance and exposing connections between Canadian conservative movements and international actors.

What The Riff?!? makes another scary trip down the Halloween rabbit hole with these theme songs, movie and TV music, and rock songs with a bent towards the macabre.  We hope you enjoy this third edition of "Halloween" from What the Riff?!? Highway to Hell by AC/DC  The opening track to the 1979 album of the same name features Bon Scott on his last album as lead singer of the group before his untimely death.  The name of the song was inspired by the group's gruesome touring schedule.Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue  The Crue's 1983 breakthrough album of the same name would establish them as one of the most successful metal bands of the 80's.  The song was controversial, with many believing that it encouraged devil worship, though the lyrics themselves do not explicitly do so.Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins  Off their breakout album "Siamese Dream," this song references "the killer in me is the killer in you" is inspired by Billy Corgan's contemplation of his negligent parents and suicide.  The lyrics "cut that little child" caused the song to be banned by the BBC.Demons by Imagine Dragons  This song off Imagine Dragons' major label debut studio album became their second top 10 single.  It is really not about demons in the Halloween sense, but more the tragedies of life like abuse, PTSD, and mental illness.Voodoo by Godsmack  The third single from Godsmack's self-titled debut album was inspired by Wes Craven's film “The Serpent and the Rainbow.”  This song became Dave Bautista's theme song as Leviathan when he was in the WWE.  Mommy's Little Monster by Social Distortion  The title track from Social Distortion's debut album tells a horror tale of a kid becoming a punk rocker.  It is another song about dealing with personal demons rather than the supernatural. Witch Wolf by Styx  Early in their career Styx put out this song to lead off their third album, “The Serpent is Rising.”  James Young takes lead vocal duties on this song that tells about a person accursed by a creature called the witch wolf, and night rider.Dragula by Rob Zombie  The lead single from Rob Zombie's debut album may be his biggest hit.  The audio clip at the beginning of the song is taken from the 1960 horror film “The City of the Dead.”  The name comes from the TV sitcom "The Munsters," where Grandpa Munster has a dragster called "Drag-u-la."The theme to the TV series "Twilight Zone" This menagerie of bizarre tales from the early days of TV still has staying power in our sci-fi culture. Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones  Mick Jagger walks us through a discussion with Old Scratch himself in this well-known classic from the Stones' catalogue.  The idea is a narrative from Satan's point of view as he reviews historical events. That Old Black Magic by Frank Sinatra  Old Blue Eyes gave us this romantic song with a Halloween bent.  It was a jazz classic originally written in 1942 with lyrics penned by Johnny Mercer.  Love is "that old black magic" in this tune.Night of the Vampire by Roky Erickson  From this cult classic album "The Evil One," this song is one of a plethora of horror-oriented tracks on the album.  Erickson spent a significant amount of time in mental institutions. The Kill (Bury Me) by Thirty Seconds to Mars  Jared Leto, front man for the group (and perhaps better known as an actor today), has said this song is about the relationship you have with yourself, and confronting the dark side of who you are.Take Me to Church by Hozier  This haunting hit song compares falling in love with a kind of death, and compares the lover to a kind of religion. Blige, Kool & the Gang, A Tribe Called Quest, MC5 and Dionne Warwick. Saturday night's ceremony will be condensed into a three hour highlights show that will air on ABC on New Year's Day.  Jelly Roll loves interacting with his fans -- but he won't be doing it on X anymore. Jelly says he's quitting the app formerly known as Twitter, calling it "the most toxic negative app to exist ever — PERIOD." In what presumably will be his final post, he wrote, "It's a safe place for everyone to say mean [crap] to each other with no consequences." This isn't the first time he's ducked out on X. Back in April, his wife Bunnie XO said he'd quit due to excessive heckling over his weight. Ahead of the 20th anniversary edition of American Idiot coming out on Friday, Green Day have shared a previously unreleased live video for "Holiday" filmed at The Warfield in San Francisco on October 13th, 2005. The Struts have shared a new single called "Can't Stop Talking." Liam Gallagher has shot down a report that Apple TV+ wanted to pay big money for a documentary about the Oasis reunion. Gallagher tweeted, "We're not doing one... There's been enough said about this band -- it's time to get Rocking and Rolling, not yapping and scrapping."  TV Remember Benjamin Glaze? He was a contestant on "American Idol" back in 2018 who told the judges that he'd never kissed a girl. He was 19 at the time. So Katy Perry called him to the table and made him kiss her on the cheek. But then she made him do it again. The second time, she turned her head and kissed Benjamin right on the lips.  Welp . . . Benjamin has just been arrested for possession of CHILD PORNOGRAPHY. A lot of it. More than 700 images and videos were allegedly found on his phone. He was arrested on Friday. Remember Joe Exotic from "Tiger King"? He's been quarantined in prison due to scabies. MOVING ON INTO MOVIE NEWS: Horror sequel Smile 2 is the No. 1 movie in North America this weekend, earning $23 million at the box office. Congrats to Jennifer Lawrence, who is pregnant again! Sylvester Stallone showed off his dance moves on Instagram over the weekend putting on a performance to the Motown classic “More Love” by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. Ever wondered how our favorite music videos and movies from the past still influence us today? Join us as we journey through some iconic pop culture moments, like Yellowcard's unforgettable MTV tribute to "The Breakfast Club" and Charlie Sheen's legendary cameo in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." We reflect on the emotional power of the Foo Fighters' performance with Taylor Hawkins' son, and even entertain the idea of rocking a "November Rain" inspired wedding dress. Of course, we also couldn't help but feel a bit of concert FOMO over missing Adele in Munich. Our tales don't stop with music and movies. We share our recent travels, contrasting visits to historic sites and the introspection they inspire, with lighter stories about tattoos and redemption. Discover the significance of places like the Badlands and the Black Hills, and hear about a unique tattoo parlor owned by a former felon now supporting others on their paths to better lives. Amidst these reflections, we sprinkle in some lighthearted banter about movies, celebrity culture, and even the intriguing possibilities of alien existence with special guest Shane Hawkins, who brings his infectious energy and drumming prowess to the episode. We're also exploring cultural contrasts, like the charmingly slow-paced hospitality found in German beer gardens and how it contrasts with the hustle and bustle of American service. Get a peek into the world of sports fandom, as we reminisce about soccer matches at Soldier Field and marvel at the sheer size of American college stadiums compared to their European counterparts. From extreme cave diving stories to curious political discussions, our conversation meanders through the quirky, the profound, and the just plain fun—proving that sometimes the best journeys are the unexpected ones.
