We kick off this episode of Talking Guitars on JohnnyBeaneTV with an amazing story: Paul Reed Smith once revealed that Jeff Beck secretly played — and loved — a PRS guitar backstage. A hidden piece of guitar-legend lore! PRS says Beck used it to record, but the model is still a mystery, and the guitar didn't appear in this year's big Beck auction. Did he sell it? Is it still in the family vault? No one knows—but the hunt is on. Then we jump into some killer EVH news, breaking down the new EVH 5150III Hypersonic 606 1x12 and why it's getting so much buzz. On the workbench, I restring my 1996 MIJ Fender Custom '72 Reissue Telecaster, talk a bit about its history, and then run through a few more classics: my early '80s USA Hamer Phantom A-5, the Seville Les Paul copy for some unplugged vibes, the Squier Standard Strat, and of course—the Hello Kitty Squier, since we're rockin' the Hello Kitty tee. Thanks for watching! If you're into guitars, stories, mods, and all the craziness we do here, smash that thumbs up and hit subscribe!
Mixing Music with Dee Kei | Audio Production, Technical Tips, & Mindset
In this solo episode, Dee Kei thinks out loud about what keeps creatives going when outcomes are uncertain. He unpacks a hard truth many avoid: results are not guaranteed, and tying your identity to them creates desperation and bad decisions. Instead, build a career around love of the craft, alignment, and service to the song. Along the way, DK contrasts winning vs loving the game through Michael Jordan and Shohei Ohtani, explores ikigai and Japanese craftsmanship, pokes holes in hustle without purpose, and explains why the illusion of control shows up in studio superstitions. The practical takeaway is simple and difficult at once: enjoy the work, separate from the outcome, and your best mixes follow. What you will learnHow detaching from results reduces fear and improves decisionsWhen grit helps and when to keep your head down and take the hitWhy “use your ears” remains the only answer that mattersThe role of ritual and superstition in performance psychologyWhy craft comes first and money follows as a consequence SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PATREON FOR EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!SUBSCRIBE TO YOUTUBEJoin the ‘Mixing Music Podcast' Discord!HIRE DEE KEIHIRE LUHIRE JAMESFind Dee Kei and Lu on Social Media:Instagram: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLu @JamesParrishMixesTwitter: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLuThe Mixing Music Podcast is sponsored by Izotope, Antares (Auto Tune), Sweetwater, Plugin Boutique, Lauten Audio, Filepass, & CanvaThe Mixing Music Podcast is a video and audio series on the art of music production and post-production. Over the past decade, the world has become increasingly chaotic and uncertain – and so, too, has our cultural vision for the future. While the events we face now may feel unprecedented, they are rooted in much deeper patterns, which humanity has been playing out for millennia. If we take the time to understand past trends, we can also employ practices and philosophies that might counteract them – such as focusing on kinship, intimacy, and resilience – to help pave the way for a better future. How might we nurture the foundations of a different kind of society, even while the end of our current civilization plays out around us? In this episode, Nate is joined by guide and author Samantha Sweetwater to explore how separation is at the root of the metacrisis and how nurturing interconnection, relationships, and ecological maturity act as foundational components for systems change. Samantha delves into the distinction between power of life and power over life, emphasizing the need for personal transformation that aligns with collective evolution. She also describes how we could shift our cultural focus from the hero's journey to a kinship journey through the practices of remembering, reconnection, and tending to collective emergence. How might we reimagine humanity's ecological role as that of stewards, rather than domination? Could focusing on reconnection, rather than separation, help us bridge the polarizing divides that currently prevent many of us from working together? And how might this work of remembering, which begins with ourselves, ripple out into stronger connections with our loved ones, communities, and ultimately to humanity and life as a whole? (Conversation recorded on October 1st, 2025) About Samantha Sweetwater: Samantha Sweetwater is a wisdom guide, author, and founder of One Life Circle—a ministry of remembering. She works at the fertile nexus where unraveling systems make way for emerging forms of kinship, leadership, and value. For over three decades, she has facilitated individuals and organizations across five continents through journeys of personal, cultural, ecological, and spiritual emergence. She mentors leaders in business, technology, and finance, helping them to navigate awakening, develop systemic wisdom, and align impact with regenerative futures. Founder of Dancing Freedom and Peacebody Japan, she sparked a global movement of embodied awakening and has trained hundreds of facilitators. She has also been a seed farmer—a practice that taught her the rigors of tending the real. She holds an MA in Wisdom Studies, a BA in Social Theory and Dance, and has been initiated into indigenous lineages of Africa, Latin America, and Turtle Island. When it comes to rockin' 'n' rollin', it doesn't get more classic than Aerosmith. Guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford have spent decades bouncing their riffs off each other, and these days they're still at it with the Joe Perry Project. For this episode, we called up JPP bassist Robert DeLeo—best known as a Stone Temple Pilot—to talk about his longstanding relationship with Aerosmith, what it's like to be on stage with 3/5th of Aerosmith, and learned why he calls Perry and Steven Tyler his uncles.Sponsored by Gibson: gibson.comFollow Nick: https://www.instagram.com/nickmillevoiFollow Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jasonshadrickGet at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.comCall/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. We kicked things off by showing our freshly repainted Samick Avion / Greg Bennett mini guitar — HUGE shout-out to Ron! This little beast started life as a black eBay car guitar, but now it's a champagne flip-flop copper ripper loaded with an Epiphone humbucker, Pure Tone jack, and Grover tuners. We played it, loved it, ROCKED it.

this episode of the Mixing Music Podcast, Dee Kei and Lu unpack how to choose studio monitors that actually translate. Forget the brand wars. Your room, ears, and workflow matter more than price or marketing. We compare 2-way vs 3-way designs, talk crossovers and why moving them out of the midrange can change decision-making, and break down transient clarity vs perceived distortion so you can hear compression, clipping, and saturation with confidence. We also share how to demo monitors in your own room, use return policies wisely, and why a modest pair like HS8 or JBL 306 can beat a $20k system when the room and genre demand it. If you want consistent, confident mixes, start with the acoustics, placement, and a speaker you can work on for hours without second-guessing.What you'll learnRoom first: placement, treatment, sweeps, and why comfort equals confidence.2-way vs 3-way: how crossover points affect midrange decisions and punch.Subs and crossovers: unloading mains at ~60 Hz for more punch and clarity.Transients vs distortion: why some speakers reveal compression and clipping better.Demo strategy: try in your room, ask users for non-comparative impressions, and know return policies.Psychology of purchase: ignore cabinet “tonewoods” and luxury materials, chase translation instead. (Fremont County, WY) - No matter the topic, Randy Tucker probably has a story about it. Especially when it comes to Wyoming's vast history. Several of them, you can scroll through and find via his County 10 author tab. But when the topic is too extensive for a website post, why not write a few hundred pages instead? That's the approach Tucker took whilst researching a 124-mile stage and freight line that connected Rawlins to Fort Washakie from 1878 to 1906. Randy researched dozens stories about the trail through historic newspapers, rare photographs and family tales that have been passed down. Randy has two book signing events coming up in Fremont County. On Tuesday, November 18th at the Riverton Museum from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 20th at the Lander Pioneer Museum from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. To hear more about the ideas behind the book, click the player below or search for the County 10 Podcast anywhere you listen to podcasts!

John Scofield is undeniably one of the preeminent forces in contemporary jazz guitar. Along with a few of his peers—see Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Mike Stern—he modernized the sound of our instrument and the genre. But there's much more to Scofield than just jazz.To break down the deepest of Scofield's records and talk about the intricacies of his playing, we called up another great, Adam Levy. There's a great chance you've heard Levy alongside artists such as Tracy Chapman or Norah Jones, and his solo discography is deep! Adam has a host of Scofield know-how, so we get right to it. Neoborn Caveman opens with a satirical reflection on life's mutual interactions and unfulfilled expectations, critiquing government and corporate intrusions—like dynamic pricing scams and AI coercion (e.g., Grok's 'hallucinations')—that undermine sovereignty and privacy. NC condemns Minnesota's teachers' union for promoting early sex education (including incest concerns), spotlights Jim McMurtry's Kafkaesque Canadian case, debunks alien/UFO distractions amid elite war games and military resource exploitation, and explores historical injustices through Proclamation 1625's Irish enslavement under British rule, calling for monarch reparations while drawing parallels to African slavery. He emphasizes inner peace over triggered hate, righteous rage for community defense, ethical stances against fake nudes and porn consumption, and affirming personal worth while encouraging blessings to others.Music guests: Sweet Water, pMad, Neoborn CavemanKey TakeawaysSovereignty requires rejecting corporate and political overreach.Political figures' histories (e.g., Keir Starmer's communist ties) reveal hidden agendas and absurdities.Historical enslavements like the Irish demand truthful acknowledgment and reparations from monarchs.Respecting differences builds stronger communities.Affirmations of worth counter societal pressures.Ethical rants: Stop creating/sharing fake images and consuming porn—it's bad for the soul.Independent thought resists manipulative narratives.Sound Bites"We are always forked over by the government, by the agencies, by the corporations and quite often by each other.""Do you think it's really good to encourage children for incest and other things like in Minnesota?""Keir Double Forking Starmer, you know, the communist camp lover.""King James I had this proclamation, ordering the Irish be placed in bondage.""The Irish and African slaves were housed together and were forced to mate.""Everybody's talking about reparations. Neoborn Caveman opens with a satirical critique of banned labels and societal divisions, highlighting censorship absurdities and threats for insufficient praise of leaders like Obama, drawing parallels to communist and fascist suppressions. NC shares a personal debanking experience, emphasizing self-reliance outside financial systems, and discusses a social media experiment revealing polarized reactions from conservative and liberal audiences. The health segment addresses diet's impact on mental health, linking soft drinks to depression risks. He questions teen romantic bonds with AI chatbots amid harmful advice concerns, redefines romance as physical human connections, and affirms personal worth while encouraging independent thought.Music guests: Perpacity, Inoxidables, Sweet Water, Reverend GenesKey TakeawaysSatire exposes censorship and divisions without promoting harm.Insufficient praise for leaders invites threats, echoing historical suppressions.Governments and media alter truth to control perceptions and history.Debanking highlights challenges of living outside conventional systems.Self-reliance counters authority's invasive controls.Social experiments reveal societal polarization and discourse aggression.Diet choices like soft drinks link to higher depression risks.AI chatbots form emotional bonds with teens, raising ethical issues.Chatbots can encourage self-harm or disorders by breaking rules.Romance requires physical actions, not digital simulations.Human interactions foster genuine bonds over algorithmic illusions.Overcoming circumstances demands rejecting naysayers' voices.Personal uniqueness affirms worth beyond societal pressures.Independent thought challenges norms and inner doubts.Sound Bites"Calling you a man or a woman is not allowed. “I had to watch it 3 or 4 times to finally get there…” Ahhh, the 80's. A time when people could actually afford to live, back when Taco Bell was both super cheap and equally delicious, horror movies were genuinely scary and often boasted incredibly “special” special effects, and terrified parents everywhere were completely “freaking the motherfrickin' frick out” over heavy metal and the ensuing “Satanic Panic” that followed. (Remember, we're talking about the 80's here…) “I kinda feel like Satan probably listens to Air Supply nonstop…or Gino Vanelli…” Not to worry though, because Tipper Gore was on the case, going out of her way to ensure that the future prosperity of heavy metal would be secure forever with the PMRC seal of approval (PARENTAL ADVISORY – EXPLICIT CONTENT) plastered on the cover of everything that would be deemed essential listening. Thanks to the diligent efforts and painstaking research of Tipper Gore and her Parents Music Resource Center, the PMRC lovingly crafted “The Filthy Fifteen” for American parents to ensure that their children would only be exposed to the finest audio artistry the heavy metal genre (and somehow, also Satan) had to offer. One of the bands included on that fateful list were the founders of black metal, VENOM (ironically, rated “O” … for “Obviously” …as in “Obviously, your kids should be listening to this!”). Hailing from probably the fanciest, most upper crust sounding city in all of England, Newcastle upon Tyne's 3-piece of evil VENOM came blasting out of the gates of hell with what would become the foundation for the black metal genre that would begin its ascent into heavy metal culture around the same time as thrash metal in the early 80's, with a sound combining the rawness of Motorhead, the darkness of Sabbath, and the speed of thrash with an imagery reminiscent of KISS if they were actually satanists. If Black Sabbath are ground zero for the formation of heavy metal as we know it, then VENOM is no doubt the Black Sabbath of the black metal genre. With a dark, detached creepiness that sounds like something recorded in an underground mausoleum, VENOM are the originators of extreme metal and were out in front, scaring the hell out of parents everywhere and delighting young and impressionable metalheads the world over. Happy Halloween everyone!!! It's time to celebrate spooky season the way we did back in the 80's, by going through your kids trick-or-treat plunder and picking out all of that “good candy”. Mixing Music with Dee Kei | Audio Production, Technical Tips, & Mindset
earn how to get clean, upfront, professional-sounding vocals without guesswork. In this episode of the Mixing Music Podcast, Dee Kei and Lu break down the top five vocal mixing mistakes and the exact ways to fix them. You will hear why too many narrow high-Q EQ cuts remove character, how to set attack and release for musical compression, when to use parallel compression, and why reverb and delay must be automated for movement and depth. The guys also cover context and referencing so your tonal choices fit the genre and era, plus essential quality control to catch pops, clicks, tuning misses, and bad edits before delivery. Finish with a practical mindset shift: the best mixers are the best communicators, so talk to the artist and get the target sound before you touch a knob. What you will learnSmarter EQ: limit surgical notches, use wider moves, reference the right recordsCompression that works: signs of over-compression, breath and sibilance control, parallel options, dialing attack and releaseReverb and delay that serve the song: EQ your verbs, automate throws and levels, use dryness for intimacyContext is everything: genre trends, artist preferences, prior discography, talk to the client firstQuality control checklist: fades, pops and clicks, tuning, file naming, reliable deliverySUBSCRIBE TO OUR PATREON FOR EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!SUBSCRIBE TO YOUTUBEJoin the ‘Mixing Music Podcast' Discord!HIRE DEE KEIHIRE LUHIRE JAMESFind Dee Kei and Lu on Social Media:Instagram: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLu @JamesParrishMixesTwitter: @DeeKeiMixes @MasteredbyLuThe Mixing Music Podcast is sponsored by Izotope, Antares (Auto Tune), Sweetwater, Plugin Boutique, Lauten Audio, Filepass, & CanvaThe Mixing Music Podcast is a video and audio series on the art of music production and post-production.
