Blake is joined once again by Nick Diener—founder of Oneder Effects and guitarist/vocalist for The Swellers—for a wide-ranging chat that hits everything from vintage SGs and Freebird lore to dad life, Discord burnout, and the existential dread of messy workspaces. Nick shares stories of playing Gary Rossington's actual guitars, visiting Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, building pedals in cluttered chaos, and trying to stay creative in a post-pandemic industry hit hard by tariffs and uncertainty. They also dive into martial arts, musician mental health, content fatigue, the pros and cons of podcast video, and why dog-related GoFundMes might just bankrupt us all. This was a terrific Tuesday crossword by Enrique Henestroza Anguiano, featuring -- of course -- a terrific theme and a strong supporting cast of "other clues". As an example of the latter, we have 60A, Ocean, poetically, MAIN; 70A, They need a push to get started, PEDALS; and the indisputable 1D, Crossword construction, e.g., CRAFT.Wrapping it up, we have a great Triplet Tuesday™ segment, in which Mike demonstrates that stalling, too, is a CRAFT

There's a fine line to walk in developing a new product, especially as a new brand without an existing track record. Make something plain and in line with existing options, and you risk getting lost in the noise; go too weird and unconventional, and it can be hard to find willing early adopters.Outlier MTB took a chance with their wild-looking Void and Pendulum pedals, but they're not just different for the sake of being different — there's sound thinking behind the designs. So we sat down with Outlier founder Cam Belisle-O'Donnell to chat about where the concept came from in the first place; what their prototyping and development process looked like; the initial public reception & coming to market with something that looks so novel; some other projects they have in the works; and a whole lot more.RELATED LINKS:BLISTER+ Get Yourself CoveredTOPICS & TIMES:Founding Outlier & the pedals' notable features (4:36)“The Lefty of MTB pedals” (12:42)The first prototypes & early testing (19:50)Pendulum vs. Void & the tradeoffs (24:24)Manufacturing challenges & running a small company (44:54)Future Outlier products? VisitMineralWells.org Trading pavement for pedals, paddles, and parks, our journey through Mineral Wells revealed a Texas treasure trove of natural wonders waiting to be explored. From the moment we stepped into Clark Gardens Botanical Park, we were captivated by its magic – wheelchair-accessible pathways winding through vibrant displays, waterfalls sparkling in sunlight, and ponds where black and white swans glide gracefully alongside strutting peacocks. What makes this garden extraordinary is its humble origins as Max Clark and his wife's private yard, gradually transformed into a botanical paradise now recognized as an official best public garden in Texas. During our visit, we experienced their annual Grow Festival, a month-long celebration of art, wellness, and Texas heritage featuring themed weekends, hands-on activities, and special events like crawfish boils. The Quanah Parker "One Man, Two Worlds" exhibit tucked inside the on-site chapel, powerfully chronicled the story of Cynthia Ann Parker and her son Quanah, the last Comanche chief – a fascinating glimpse into the cultural collisions that shaped frontier America. Our adventure continued at Lake Mineral Wells State Park, where we hiked through the aptly named Penitentiary Hollow with its impressive sandstone cliffs and hidden caves. Rock climbers, hikers, campers and mountain bikers all find their paradise here, with access to a 20-mile trailway connecting to neighboring Weatherford. The highlight came when we partnered with Spartan Adventure and Rentals for some lake exploration – though one of us learned the hard way that "stand-up paddleboarding" can quickly become "stand-up splashboarding" when attempting to model a new shirt! Despite the unexpected swim, being surrounded by herons, ducks, and the gentle lap of water against our boards provided that perfect reset that only nature can deliver.Ready to answer nature's call? Plan your own outdoor escape at visitmineralwells.org and discover why this charming Texas town deserves a prominent spot on your travel wishlist. Spring is here, and things are busy in the bike world, giving Dylan and Simon lots to talk about in our March edition of Reviewing the News. They kick things off with a fun conversation about which pro athletes shred on both bikes and skis, which leads them into a recap of the very well-attended Red Bull Tennesee National DH race and who's going into the season with good speed. This time of year typically means lots of new products to get excited about, and the lads go over some of their favorites. As touring season approaches, another rig build is imminent. I've been working on some sounds and figuring out how I'm going to take this massive stereo image on tour with me for both playing live and recording. With tours in the US and Europe with Vital Information, solo clinics, bass days, and several large recording projects scattered around the world, compact and easy to carry is the name of the game with this board. But at the same time, I don't want to sacrifice anything when it comes to sound, and I want it ALL to be in stereo. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by a very special guest this week for Episode 551 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Tracii Guns tells us about his favorite pedals, plugins, and pajamas! Please be aware this episode contains infrequent swearing and drug references - not suitable for minors! This week the guys are pretty stoked to have one of Brian's all-time guitar heroes on the show. Tracii Guns is a legendary LA based guitarist, super talented player, and happens to be the founding member of a couple of huge bands you may have heard of. He also has a vast amount of stories and anecdotes to recount...and they are seriously funny. Brian drills straight into the culture of the Sunset Strip scene of the 1980s as the guys take a "behind the scenes" peek into the LA rock scene of that era. Tracii talks about some of the legendary bands he played alongside when LA Guns first made it, including Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, WASP, and a whole bunch more. Richard looks at the differences between the English and the US Music scene of that period and Tracii has some great insights and a mutual love of some classic British bands.Blake asks about the early days of Grunge and how that changed the direction of rock and Tracii gives us a candid and hilarious take on how that played out and what it meant for the musicians of the time. Tracii then tells us how Brian helped him through an existential rig crisis and you might be surprised by the fixes they came up with.http://www.lagunsmusic.com/ The Nigels, The Rock Sock, Kid Creole, Steve Vai, Rockman stories...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show
The I5N vs. GTC4 Lusso film is now playing on our original YT channel! For Tom in LA, the guys debate cars that drive as if Honda built a 911. Then, if your requirements include great A/C, what's good for Texas? Angel R. wants a cool family road trip vehicle. Social media questions ask if there will be a shift away from all screens in cars, do the guys get tired of people saying cars should only be practical, and is there disdain for floor-mounted pedals? Send us a textIn this episode I take you through my 5 essential pedals. These are the ones I use all the time and how I set them up. 1. Compressor PedalWhy it's important: A compressor smooths out the dynamics of your playing by limiting the loudest notes and boosting the quieter ones. It helps create a more consistent sound, adding sustain, punch, and clarity. A great tool for players who want their tone to sound polished and even, especially when fingerpicking or in clean tones.Popular choices: Keeley Compressor, MXR Dyna Comp, Wampler Ego Compressor.2. Overdrive PedalWhy it's important: An overdrive pedal is key for adding warmth and grit to your tone. Whether you're looking for classic bluesy smoothness or heavier, more saturated rock tones, overdrive is essential for shaping your distortion and helping you achieve expressive, dynamic playing.Popular choices: Ibanez Tube Screamer, Fulltone OCD, Boss OD-3.3. Reverb PedalWhy it's important: Reverb creates space and depth by simulating the natural reflections of sound in an environment. Whether you're after subtle room ambiance or lush, expansive reverb tails, this effect is essential for adding dimension to your sound and making your tone feel more alive.Popular choices: Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail, Strymon BigSky, TC Electronic Hall of Fame.4. Graphic EQ PedalWhy it's important: A graphic EQ pedal gives you control over your tone's frequency response, allowing you to shape your sound by boosting or cutting specific frequency bands. It's great for fine-tuning your tone, compensating for room acoustics, or dialing in specific sounds for different musical contexts. It also acts as a powerful tool to carve out space in the mix when playing in a band.Popular choices: Boss GE-7, MXR Ten Band EQ, Behringer EQ700.5. Looper PedalWhy it's important: A looper pedal allows you to record short sections of your playing and loop them in real time, creating layers of sound. This is great for practice, songwriting, or performance, and it enables you to build complex, evolving compositions on the fly. It's a versatile pedal for solo artists and can be used creatively to add texture, rhythm, or melody to your performance.Popular choices: TC Electronic Ditto, Boss RC-3, Electro-Harmonix 720.Honorable Mention: Delay PedalWhy it's important: Delay is often used in conjunction with reverb to add depth, space, and rhythmic complexity. While it's not in your top 5, it's still worth considering for creating ambient soundscapes, rhythmic echo patterns, or lead lines with a sense of movement.Popular choices: Boss DD-7, MXR Carbon Copy, Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail.Download the Triad Method: https://thebluesguitarshow.com/the-triad-method/Support the showTo get your hands on THE TRIAD METHOD: https://thebluesguitarshow.com/product/the-triad-method/Become a Blues Guitar Show Member: https://www.buzzsprout.com/950998/subscribeHead over to www.thebluesguitarshow.com to subscribe to the mailing list

I have some new pieces in the pedal library that are going into the new stereo setup. I'm actually most excited about the one pedal that makes no sound at all: The Walrus Audio Stereo Canvas. More on that in the episode!Could it be the solution to a Stereo/Mono all-in-one board that I've been looking for? If it is, that board might get even crazier with a stereo loop switcher in the end going out to four DI's… Massive thanks to everyone who has streamed the new album. It's by far my most successful release based on Spotify streams in the first week, and it's growing every day. I'm very happy to see this music get a fresh lease of life, and hear your feedback about the new bass tracks I recorded for the album. We also have a massive update to the website that I hope will give way more access to the books across the world. I've been racking my brains about how to solve the issues we've had over the past year with crazy shipping costs, and not having the ability to bundle digital and physical products together. Well… we've solved both of them! And have moved to Shopify for a way more streamlined and smooth user-experience. In some cases shipping is actually going to be free now!Shipping, to so many parts of the world, has been as much as the cost of a book itself. We've set some thresholds for each part of the globe that, if met, shipping will go to zero. That way we end up sharing the cost of the shipping a little, and you get more products for your money rather than burning it all on Fedex. It's the start of a new chapter, and I'm sure there will be a few bumps along the way. I appreciate both your support and your patience as always, and look forward to bringing you much more very soon. Janek Get full access to Janek's Newsletter at janekgwizdala.substack.com/subscribe

Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 540 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Crazy looper pedals, the Fuzz Bender wars, and triple transistors There can be no avoiding the recent news from JHS where they announced the re-vamped Ross pedals line is to be no more and the guys attempt to do the subject justice via the medium of mountain dew. Opinions are given. Stupidity occurs. Blake has been posting on threads and appears to break Richard's brain. Didn't take much if truth be told.Richard has a problem with a certain guitar company's branding and cannot keep it to himself. This somehow leads into a conversation about Brian's physical properties and it gets very weird for a hot minute. Richard treats us to some switch based ASMR thanks to our friend Sean from Gunstreet wiring and frustrates Brian with his silly accent. The recent passing of Vic Flick has got the guys looking into fuzz schematics and Brian looks a bit onto the design of the Tone bender and the Maestro FZ-1 which somehow involves Terry and Debra. Meanwhile Matthews Effects have released an awesome looking pedal that Blake has desires on and Brian loves the LED rings. The guys then talk about one of the smallest pedals ever. Brian talks us through his modification and talks a little bit about this classic boost circuit and this turns into a little bit of a primer for guitar effects in general. Blake has been roleplaying and it takes the guys buy surprise so they go off on a tangent into the world of robots before Brian tells us of his gaming tactics. Richard insults him before they discuss a documentary about 1980s hair metal that involves ridiculous meat based antics. He also met one of his heroes and saw some live music which wasn't related to Pink Floyd and asks the question - who is the greatest Female Telecaster player of all time? SNL made a sketch about Oasis and it did not go down well. Meanwhile the guys have been lusting over the Greg Koch "Koch Ness Monster" pedalboard and Brian finds inspiration from Robert Keeley. This flows smoothly into a conversation about compressor pedals, feed-forward designs, and the EGO 76. Meanwhile Richard has been blown away by an early pioneer of delay effects.
