Hey everyone, this is Abigail Horne founder of Authors & Co and you’re listening to the Once Upon A Wine podcast, the show that adds both insight and humour to this little thing called life for people who love nothing more than real talk over a glass or three of vino.
Today, I am very disappointingly drinking a slimfast, just don't even ask, don't ask, about the fad I'm now about to go on. And just an FYI, I've already quit Karate! - That's pretty much that! So this week, I am in launch with a new publishing offer. I thought it would be really nice to tie in this weeks podcast with questions that I am being asked on a daily basis. So I thought it would be really useful for you all if I shared with you the 6 most frequently asked self publishing fears and questions which you can relate to "insert any task or thing you want to achieve here". Grab yourself a tipple, and listen in to the 6 fears as I share them one by one. I hope you find this useful today, because these are fears, that will massively stop you from moving forward with your publishing journey, moving forward in growing your business, moving forward in attracting a lot more clients and moving forward in making alot more money. I'd love to know if you have ever found yourself asking any of these questions and assuming answers which have prevented you from making a start? For tonights show, I have opened a bottle of coffee flavoured 19 Crimes red wine. I highly recomend it. I've popped a link below. (I am not affiliated) I was missing in action last week, I've had major issues with my bush, I kept getting wet and it needed a massive trim, so apologies it was never my intention to miss a week. I was also busy flashing. I've become addticed to flashing, I want to flash more often, the money I've made doing it has more than covered my bush trimming antics. I've got a couple of lovely assets I'm waiting to flash too so watch this space. I don't want to say anymore than that, grab yourself a tipple, let me know what you think of 19 Crimes and of course this weeks episode. UNEDITED INTERVIEW - Complete transparency, I'm not in the Horne & Trumpet this week. I'm in our home office, with a juice after drinking way too much wine on Mothers Day, way to much wine! I'm wearing my son's pokemon headphones and there's a digger in the front garden so I can't record in the garden, I've had issues with my bush (more on that another time). Very exciting though, a drum roll please and an exceptionally warm welcome for my very first two guests. Today 31st March, is 'Transgender day of Visibility', and I wanted to bring on two incredible humans who I know, Theo and his mum Heidi. And today we are going to be discussing what they are going through as a family as Theo transitions from assigned female at birth to now being male. We wanted to have a really open and honest conversation, of what this looks like for him, what this looks like for his mum, some myth busting and what life looks like as a young trans person. I'm joining you today with a prosecco in hand from inside the Horne & Trumpet. I've had a moment of realisation, that this is my podcast and I can talk to you about what ever I want to. So this week's episode is going to be about bravery and alignment. The reason I want to talk about those two things this week is because my week has been filled with them both and it feels amazing! I'll be sharing with you what has happened since my nan's book "Pauline" launched last week, not only that, the incredibly humbling response and virility of "War Teddies" the poem I wrote for my daughter Polly and how it helped me to personally process what was happening in the Ukraine. When you are in alignment, when you get out of your own way and stop worrying about what people may think, incredible things happen as I'm about to share. Grab you tipple, get comfy and listen in, this one is sincerly from the bottom of my heart. The atmosphere in the Horne & Trumpet couldn't be any more glorious tonight. I have a mug of hot chocolate made lovingly by my eldest Ted, fairy lights twinkling with low and relaxed lighting and a Moments candle lit the room smells devine. All the chill vibes are going on. Tonight I'm going to be talking about how as a family we are dealing with Alzheimers, it's a painful one with a happy twist, grab your tipple, snuggle down and come on a journey with me. I'll take you back to 2009, a very sad and significant time in my life. One which saw me losing my best friend, my Grandad Ted to Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. An event which was to trigger the creation of Authors and Co, because the book we were meant to write together still has blank pages. Just prior to lockdown in 2020 my nana P, Pauline, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. There was no way I was not going to fill the pages for a second time. We never finished your book Grand, and yet here you are in the pages of the book we've written with nan. Its not been easy, I will cherish it forever! I'm in awe of my nan, my mum and myself for completing this book. I love you all imeasurably and always xxx Alzehiemers now has nothing left to take - The Hand Family 1 - Alzheimers 0 I raise my glass to you nanny P long may your shenanigans continue! We have a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape open in the Horne and Trumpet for today's episode where I give a lifetime fan's view of the new season of SATC. I have been a SATC fan my whole life, not just adult life, it was part of my school years too. I had majorly high expectations for both the movies and for this new series. I think they completely and utterly delivered. However I am in what seems to be the minority, which is such a shame. So as the wine glass is emptying, I would love to share my thoughts and feelings with you on how the characters and the actresses have delivered on this for me in such an authentic representation of life. We will also have a little rewind moment you wont want to miss "insert aubergine emoji"! did anyone else see it? Grab your tipple, kick back, relax and join the debate, did it deliver for you? Can you believe the critics comments and how women are openly responding in such a venomous way to showing up authentically? WTAF! I'd love to hear your views. Today in the Horne & Trumpet, Abigail shares with you her experience of working from home over the last 8 years and the challenges that has presented. As a mother, daughter and friend to many, Abigail juggles not just the stresses of running a growing organisation, but the needs of her family too. The work from home “Dream” is more of a work from home “Nightmare” at times, and office workers appear to have the better option… That said, Abigail reflects on the good, and the bad in this episode. My heart and thoughts are with the Ukraine, but it's not enough. We can always do more, speak up more, share more and impact more. Today I speak up for change, for becoming the 51%. This isn't an easy listen, nor was it it easy to record, but we cannot turn away. All the wine is needed for todays instalment of Once Upon a Wine, where Abigail hilariously shares with us her disastrous attempt at going green - all the Pine, all the Plastic and all the Trees! Today Abigail shares with us her first attempt at giving back to the planet. It didn't quite go to plan! Toothbrush sticks, charcoal toothpaste, bamboo pants, bleeding legs and a near severed finger. All this from watching the Netflix movie "Don't Look Up". WOW! A must listen, go grab a tipple folks, you'll need a drink for this one. Be warned however if you spit if everywhere laughing Abigail will not be held liable. Today in the Horne & Trumpet, Abigail shares with you her experience of feeling too sensitive to grow her business any further, and like she's not the right person to have major success. As a highly sensitive, easily upset person, how she is really proud of those traits now. After online bullies and internet trolls led her to a complete breakdown and to retreat from the online space for a whole year leaving her business in ruins did she discover the power of STOPPING. She stopped visiting the sites, she stopped reading the comments, she disarmed the trolls and took back control. They may still be writing it, she doesn't see it anymore. Raw honest insight to lived experience with a touch of "F%ck You" to the trolls. Sensitivity is your superpower! ** Disclaimer ** I am not suggesting in any way shape or form that if somebody is less sensitive, that automatically they must be an arsehole. Or, these really confident people that you see must be not as nice as people. That isn't what I'm getting at all. In fact some of the most confident people, high flying people that I know are covertly very sensitive they are just better at hiding it. This podcast is brought to you by your host, the incredibly honest, funny and inspiring Abigail Horne, owner of Authors and Co, best selling author of Your Story Starts Here, Podcaster, Wife and Mum to three young children - two boys and a wildling 3-year-old daughter Polly. Abigail hosts from her garden pub the Horne & Trumpet with a glass of red, a G&T or even a Peroni or two. After her two best friends "buggered off" and moved overseas in the summer of 2018, Abigail was left with two empty seats at the conversational pub table. Now missing those all-important chats & debates you would usually share with friends over a glass or three of wine, Abigail has left those thoughts unspoken until now. Once Upon A Wine will bring you topics usually spoken amongst friends, not often found online. It will be open, honest, frank; there might be differences of opinion, tears, laughter, and certainly a bit of bad language. Whether you agree or disagree - there is no judgement, just conversation and indeed no hate. Most importantly, Abigail isn't just going to talk about business; she talks about 'all of the things' about her personal life and everything that is topical right now. Thirsty Thursday's are being revamped! Go grab a drink of your choice and let's chat! If you want to be in the live audience and participate, drop me a message to join in the conversation.
