The Flames kick off their first American road trip with a 5-0 record. The Flames swept a road trip of five-plus games for the second time in franchise history. The Flames became the third team in NHL history to sweep a road trip of five-plus games while never trailing in each contest. A new season. A new beginning. A lot happened for the Calgary Flames during this offseason as they look to shake things up. After the departure of Captain Mark Giordano, the Flames look to pave a new identity and shape the team they want to be moving forward... starting with the 2021-22 season. We analyze the team's offseason, preseason and set you up for the upcoming regular season ahead.
After a disappointing 2020-21 NHL season, the Calgary Flames look to take the offseason as an opportunity to reflect, change and (hopefully) come back stronger than ever. The Flames fell four points short of a playoff spot, due to a weak start, a late season coaching change, and some 'frustration' in the locker room. Now, watching the electrifying Stanley Cup Playoff series taking place without them, it begs the question: What does Calgary need to do to play this caliber of hockey? A bona fide superstar? A change in attitude? More time under new bench boss Daryll Sutter? In this episode we discuss the disappointing season and reflect on its ups-and-downs, as we also look towards the future of the franchise.
The Calgary Flames have found themselves in an unfortunate situation in the 2020-21 season. They've had their ups and downs, a coaching change, a slew of poor player performance, and a recent trade deadline that saw the departure of David Rittich and Sam Bennett. But, as per usual, the Flames have found themselves getting back into it late in the season, but still, sit 6 points out of a playoff spot. We discuss the recent trade deadline, the Flames' recent success, where this season went wrong, and explored if they have a shot at saving this season, and what we can look forward to in the year ahead.
After a 7-3 win over the Ottawa Senators, the Calgary Flames announced they had not only relieved head coach Geoff Ward from his duties but that they had hired Darryl Sutter as the team's new bench boss. Sutter previously coached the Flames from 2002 to 2006, in which he left behind some "unfinished business" as the team went to the Stanley Cups Finals in 2004, but left empty-handed. Sutter later went on to win 2 Stanley Cups as head coach of the LA Kings in 2012 and 2014. His coaching career now extends to four different decades, beginning in the 1990s and continued through the 2000s and the 2010s, and he is now taking a stab at coaching in the 2020s. In this episode, we discuss Sutter's coaching style, the surprising news of his hire, and what it means for the Flames' season and beyond.
