In the fast-paced world of ministry - especially in places like New York City - it can be easy to drift into doing rather than being, managing rather than ministering. As small group leaders and disciple-makers, we're reminded that deep, lasting transformation often begins not with strategy, but with slowing down, embracing vulnerability, and learning to lead from a place of wholeness. In this thought-provoking episode host Brian Daniel welcomes Drew Hyun, author of Beautiful, Disappointing, Hopeful, to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities of ministry in New York City. Drew shares his personal journey from California to the East Coast, unpacking the spiritual dynamics of urban life - diversity, density, and the deep hunger for meaning. The conversation explores the need for prayerful dependence, the role of love in building community, and the powerful framework of Emotionally Healthy Discipleship. Drew dives into the emotional complexities leaders often overlook, urging a "slow-down spirituality" that helps us address the deeper layers of the human condition. He also reflects on suffering, the problem of evil, and how the Christian story offers enduring hope in the face of life's hardest questions. If you're looking to grow as a leader who not only disciples others but is also being discipled by grace, this episode will encourage you to embrace the beauty, disappointment, and hope found in following Jesus - right in the middle of real life.If this episode encouraged or challenged you, we'd love for you to rate and review the podcast, and don't forget to share it with a fellow leader walking the path of intentional, emotionally healthy discipleship.SHOW LINKS: Beautfiul, Disappointing, Hopeful CLICK HERE to read the report from Lifeway Research about the state of groups.

Catherine, David and Matt were joined by Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic to talk through Iga Swiatek becoming Wimbledon champion and her 6-0 6-0 win over Amanda Anisimova in the final. In part one we talk through what happened in a match that had the most one-sided of scorelines and the most brutal of defeats for a nervous and – in her own estimation – tired, Amanda Anisimova. We discuss how nerves played their part in limiting Anisimova's ability to hurt Swiatek and how much the semi-final against Sabalenka may have taken from her in emotional energy. Disappointing as it was from her point of view, however, we had plenty of space to talk about the brilliance of Iga Swiatek in grand slam finals, her ruthlessness and power today, her resilience in coming back after a number of disappointing results to take this title, and how her victory changes the narrative of women's tennis. Finally, it's a scoreline which once again got us talking about best of three vs best of five. In part two (44m04s) we discuss the other results from today, including a first victory in a very long time for an all British pair – Cash and Glasspool - in the men's doubles, of an intense and dramatic victory for De la Puente and Spaargaren over Hewett and Reid in the men's wheelchair doubles, and of a new star in Chinese wheelchair tennis as Wang Ziying denied Yui Kamiji her first Wimbledon victory and a career golden slam. In part three (50m18s) we give you a preview of the men's final tomorrow and look ahead to the final order of play at the Championships 2025. Life is both beautiful and disappointing, but the story of God has always been one of His pursuit of us. Drew Hyun, former New Life pastor and now the Founder and Lead Pastor of Hope Church NYC, guides us through a powerful message exploring how the Christian story can be summed up in three words: beautiful, disappointing, hopeful, and how God continues to see and notice us, even when we may not realize it. Scripture Referenced: Acts 17:22-28
