Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you kick off your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the start of the NFL season, jersey purchases, Pink Pony Club origin, and delved into any other topics that arose. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life by discussing the best time of the year for sports, now that the NHL is underway, the Jays are chasing a division win, and the NFL season has begun. There are so many sports stories to be excited about, and the guys kicked off the podcast with a conversation about Shadeur Sanders' jersey being a top seller despite not even being the starting QB in Cleveland. Talking about jerseys led the boys to talk about which unis they would buy if they were in the market for a new one. Changing gears, the guys looked at the Connor McDavid contract situation and wondered whether or not these delays are tied to Kirill Kaprisov's stalemate in Minnesota. Yesterday, it was reported that the Wild star turned down a $16 million AAV over eight years, which led to a conversation about whether these two contracts are linked. If Kaprisov is turning down that much smoke, does that mean that Connor McDavid is waiting to see where he lands before signing his own extension? Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including Coldplay being set to pass Taylor Swift's tour gross earnings, Connor Brown spilling the Pink Pony Club details, the Real Life Fantasy Football League, and the new Charlie Sheen documentary that just got loaded to Netflix. The squad may have been shorthanded this week, but that didn't stop them from yammering on about anything and everything for an hour. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this Summer Coolers edition of NHL Wraparound, Neil Smith and Vic Morren head to the desert to break down the Vegas Golden Knights, a team still in win-now mode—and not afraid to prove itComing off a 110-point season and a second-round loss to Edmonton, Vegas pulled off the biggest move of the offseason, acquiring Mitch Marner from Toronto and signing him to an 8-year, $12M AAV deal. The message? The Golden Knights are all-in again. But with aging stars, injury concerns, and cap issues, is this the final swing of the sword before the dynasty window closes?
This week on 2 Guys & A Goalie, the crew dives into the wild rumour that Kirill Kaprizov apparently turned down a $16-million AAV deal. What does it say about his value, and could we ever see an NHL player push for that kind of money? Plus, with rookie camps underway across the NHL, we swap some of the best stories from past rookie camps — from standout performances to unforgettable moments that gave fans a first look at future stars. 2 Guys & a Goalie is presented by GS Construction!

Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open by recapping the Blue Jays' loss that evened the series with the Astros, spotlighting Jeff Hoffman's ninth-inning struggles and questioning why he still gets the call. They also hit on Jason Alexander (no, not Costanza) blanking the Jays over seven scoreless, the lineup's issues without Bo Bichette, and José Berríos grinding through another solid turn. After the first break, they dig into reports that Kirill Kaprizov declined a massive extension and what it signals for the Connor McDavid discourse ahead of his 2026 free agency. Later, they react to Adam Silver's comments on rising viewing costs and the backlash from fans paying for full-game access. Plus, they touch on kickoff returns in the NFL being up and if that's actually good for the game. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

It's another Wednesday in the middle of the NHL dead zone, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap another pre-season week in Edmonton. On today's podcast, I discussed the start of Oilers' rookie camp, the latest on Connor McDavid watch, Mattias Ekholm wanting to re-sign, and whatever else has happened over the last seven days. The Edmonton Oilers are on the ice for the captain's skates, rookie camp is set to launch, and we're inching our way closer to the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. The Oilers' rookies will take on the Flames' rookies this weekend at Rogers Place and then at the Saddledome, and that has me excited to see what our latest crop of kids has cooking. For the big club, we're still waiting for Connor McDavid contract news, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't starting to get nervous about how long this is taking. Sticking with the extension talk, I also went over Mattias Ekholm's desire to remain an Oiler and how I think that's both awesome and a tricky situation at the same time. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about my Internet before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive with nonsense again this week, and as always, the messages were as fun as they were all over the map. The voicemail is always a fun way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.
It's Battle of Alberta time — rookie edition! This week, the Edmonton Oilers rookies face off against the Calgary Flames rookies, and we're breaking down everything you need to know: Who are the top young players to watch? Which prospects could stand out and make a push for camp? What should fans expect from this year's rookie group? Plus, we keep the conversation rolling on the biggest topic in Oil Country: When will Connor McDavid re-sign with the Oilers? How long could the deal be, and what will it mean for Edmonton's future? Tommy also gives #10-6 on his Rankings of Importance, which opens up more Oilers discussion about what fans should expect in the 2025-26 season! The Oil Stream is presented by Boston Pizza!
Hockey season is creeping closer, and the buzz is building in Downtown Edmonton! This episode, Brenden Escott is joined by Oilers Inside the Game analyst Rob Brown to break down everything happening behind the scenes at the unofficial captain's skates. Who's showing up early, who's making noise, and what does it say about the mindset in the Oilers room? They also dig into the biggest question looming over Oil Country: What's the latest on Connor McDavid's contract extension talks? Rob and Brenden give their takes on where things stand, what it means for the franchise, and why fans should be watching closely. And – good news for fans of #18 – they discuss Zach Hyman's wrist injury recovery and what his return to full health could mean for Edmonton's top six heading into the season.
Brenden Escott welcomes Sportsnet 960's Logan Gordon for a deep dive into the big news out of Calgary: goalie Dustin Wolf has signed a new contract extension – and it's sending ripples through the Battle of Alberta. What does this move mean for the Flames' long-term goaltending picture? How does it shift the dynamic for their rebuild? And most importantly — what should Oilers fans make of a potentially rising star just down the QEII? From scouting reports to roster impacts, Brenden and Logan break it all down with insight, edge, and a little cross-province rivalry spice. Learn more about your ad choices. Needless to say, having the NFL back this weekend was a big moment for the boys on the podcast, marking the official start of the best time for sports in the calendar year. This Summer Cooler features one of the most fascinating—and fragile—franchises in the NHL: the Edmonton Oilers.Despite being two-time defending Western Conference champions, the Oilers have no Cup to show for it, and now they face the biggest storyline in the NHL heading into 2025–26:
In this episode of Summer Coolers, Neil Smith and Vic Morren dive into the offseason developments for the Los Angeles Kings after another frustrating playoff exit. For the fourth consecutive year, the Kings were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round—this time after holding multiple leads and letting key games slip away. With Rob Blake out and Ken Holland in as GM, the Kings are attempting to retool—but are they reloading or regressing? The hosts break down the impact of Holland's veteran-heavy signings—Corey Perry, Cody Ceci, Joel Armia, and Brian Dumoulin—all of whom push the Kings' roster deeper into “win-now” territory. But with an aging core that includes Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar, and a first-time head coach in Jim Hiller, there are real questions about whether this team can make it out of the first round, let alone compete for the Cup.They also revisit LA's playoff series against Edmonton, highlighting how close the Kings were to taking control—and how costly breakdowns and coaching decisions may have sealed their fate.IN THIS EPISODE:[00:00] A fourth straight playoff loss to the Oilers — what went wrong again?[01:00] Ken Holland takes over as GM — will he be the answer?[01:33] Offseason additions: Perry, Armia, Ceci, Dumoulin — average age over 34[02:40] Perry's Stanley Cup Final curse — five different teams, five losses[04:15] Game-by-game recap: blown leads, failed challenge, poor puck decisions[06:00] Byfield's development, Fiala's upside, and depth up front[07:15] Defensive drop-off: losing Gavrikov, aging Doughty, concerns with Ceci[08:10] Coaching hot seat: how long is the leash for Jim Hiller?[09:15] Could Peter DeBoer be an option if things go south early?KEY TAKEAWAYS:The Kings continue to stumble in the postseason, despite holding multiple leads over the Oilers in key games.Ken Holland's first offseason as GM focused on experience, but at the expense of speed and youth. The blue line took a hit with the loss of Vladislav Gavrikov, and the replacements (Ceci, Dumoulin) raise concerns.Jim Hiller is not Holland's hire, and with big expectations and a veteran group, a slow start could trigger changes.Quinton Byfield's second-half surge and the continued consistency of Kempe and Danault offer hope—but the pressure is building.RESOURCE LINKS:
