Sean Monahan receiving the Masterton Trophy from Johnny Gaudreau's wife and Football analyst Duke Ellingson on the Redblacks season opening loss and the Pacers with another improbable playoff comeback.
The Oilers crushed the Dallas Stars 6-1 in Game 3, with Connor McDavid's late second-period goal shifting momentum after a strong Dallas frame. Coach Pete DeBoer admitted that moment deflated the Stars, who have allowed too many prime chances and seen several key forwards go quiet. Stuart Skinner has outplayed Jake Oettinger so far, especially in Game 3, and looks composed and confident. A missed puck-over-glass call on Brett Kulak turned into a pivotal non-penalty, while Petrovic's crushing hit sidelined Connor Brown. DeBoer gave a lukewarm endorsement of Oettinger’s play, as the series enters Edmonton’s window of dominance under Kris Knoblauch in Games 4–7 (16–2 over the last two seasons). Out East, Carolina is down 3–0 to Florida, and with their stars underperforming, hope is fading. Ray highlights Florida’s depth and how players like Forsling and Mikkola—once overlooked—are thriving. Dan and Shawn are joined by Blue Jackets forward Sean Kuraly (20:18) and talked about playing at Ohio State, where he has seen many a college football game as a Buckeyes fan growing up in Dublin, Ohio. He discussed the importance of the game to the fans in Columbus, how it's an opportunity for them to showcase their passion for the game and the Blue Jackets, who will be playing in their first NHL outdoor game. Finally, Kuraly appeared to get emotional discussing the lasting impact Johnny Gaudreau has on the Blue Jackets. Prior to the interview with Kuraly, Rosen and Roarke talked about Alex Ovechkin's chase for Wayne Gretzky's goal record and the lasting impact of the 4 Nations Face-Off. They wrapped up the episode talking about the Trade Deadline and what teams such as the Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes, Vancouver Canucks and more could do come next week.
How has your transition to the Blue Jackets been different than your time with the Pittsburgh Penguins? Talk about the current roster. Who has been a big surprise for the team? WHo has failed to live up to expectations? What does this team need to do to qualify for the playoffs? Players response to this coaching staff seems better than what it has been why? Emotional Highs and Lows related to Johnny Gaudreau. Trade deadline needs. Buyers or Sellers this year Injuries can derail a team, with Kirill Marchenko broken jaw, how will he be replaced since he is questionably the teams best forward? Adding to all the injuries that they have dealt with Boone Jenner, Sean Monahan and Erik Gundbranson to name a few if the Jackets lose Zack Werenski for any period of time how will they replace his resurgent season. Is he playing at a Norris Trophy level and why? Look into your crystal ball and predict not only this seasons future for the 24-25 season but what can we expect say 5 years from now (a long range plan if you would). On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett and Jim Moore, discuss the challenges of moving, the stress it brings, and the humorous moments that arise from it. They also touch on technical difficulties during a live show, the antics of dogs in a park, and delve into the dynamics of college football and NIL money. Puck and Moore talk about the role of sports media, including the dynamics between sports figures and media, and the challenges of maintaining journalistic integrity while being partnered with sports teams. They delve into the implications of Jerry Jones' threats to media hosts, the ethics of sports reporting. Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftBlog.com, on the poor performance of the Seahawks OL. How culpable is John Schneider? Are the Seahawks even a playoff team at this point? We agree that Geno Smith is a good quarterback , but not good enough to win you a Super Bowl and the team right now has a serious lack of veteran leadership and that's a major red flag for Mike Macdonald. Puck and Rob discuss the evolving landscape of college football and its impact on NFL preparation , particularly for offensive linemen. They analyze the current state of the Seahawks, focusing on team dynamics, leadership issues, and coaching challenges. The discussion also highlights the importance of accountability within the team and reaction to what Tyler Lockett said about the team not being prepared. Ryan Divish, Seattle Times, joins for his weekly offseason Mariners talk and they focus on the future of catcher Cal Raleigh. Does Cal want to be here full-time? What would it cost the organization to keep him around if they offer a contract extension? Would Cal consider dropping Scott Boras as his agent? If they eventually part ways with Cal, how ready is Harry Ford?Puck and Divish touch on the dynamics between players and management, emphasizing the need for clear communication and the number one goal for Cal is to win a championship and is that something he can do in Seattle? Finally, “Hey, What the Puck?” Jerry Jones situation in Dallas with the sports radio host highlights an issue in modern day sports broadcasting. Too many media outlets are now partners with sports teams, thus it prevents the personalities from really being critical of the team because you don't want to damage the relationship. For the teams, it's perfect. You have a nice, safe, comfortable space to talk. Also, emotional scene last night in Columbus as the Blue Jackets honored the late Johnny Gaudreau. Rundown00:00 Jim has moved and he's doing the show from a park with kids lighting off bottle rockets….Jim and Puck cover the Jerry Jones situation and how we would have handled a owner of a team telling us they he could take our jobs. Jim recalls his story with Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto, when he told Jerry in an interview that his kids 15 year old baseball team could field better than the M's. 30:27 Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftBlog..com, on the poor performance of the Seahawks OL. SERIES 3 EPISODE 44: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: We are now at the eugenics stage of Trump morphing into Hitler. We are now at the they-murder-white-people-because-it's-in-their-genes stage. I'm not exaggerating and I am just barely paraphrasing. Trump has now moved one step closer to eugenics, to classifying entire races and nationalities as genetically criminal, to fully embracing the nightmare insanity of Adolf Hitler, to ethnic cleansing and persecution of immigrants because he thinks they WILL commit murder. As Politico described it, a “blood libel,” in an interview with the conservative bobble-head doll of commentators, Hugh Hewitt. Trump quoted his fabricated number of 13,000 murderers migrating across the border, insisting murder is in "the genes" and "we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now.” Later with Laura Ingraham Trump didn't get quite as literal about eugenics but he did say quote “I will keep you safe. I'm not going to allow prisoners to come out from Venezuela… the Congo… the Middle East… Yemen. I'm going to keep you safe. I'm not going to let them help you.” I don't know how much more he has to tell this country before even the coalition of the stupid and the hateful realize that sooner rather than later, a Trump returned to power will attempt to STAY in power beyond his expiration date, by killing somebody they LIKE. Even a tech bro. Or an Aryan with not enough Aryan blood. Or Nick Fuentes because, oops, Fuentes is the same name as some of them immigrants. Or JD Vance because Trump has a really bad loyalty record with Vice Presidents. ALSO: If Republicans keep insisting Democrats are controlling the weather doesn't that imply that Trump was unable to? Musk is now bribing people $47 to sign up for his Trump PAC. He's going to campaign for Trump in Pennsylvania (his favorability is worse than Vance's). And an explanation from Nate Silver as to what kind of Popular Vote victory translates into what kind of Electoral College victory. B-Block (26:30) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Anybody remember the JD Vance/Trump/GOP lie about Haitian immigrants killing and eating geese and pets in Springfield, Ohio? They've convicted the geese guy. His name is Brian and he ain't from Haiti. Jake Tapper opens himself up to fact-checking, or the lack thereof. And the hockey writer who dilutes the Johnny Gaudreau tragedy for a cute line in a season preview. C-Block (34:30) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Howard Stern interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris? I wonder if they'll bring up what they were both doing half a century ago today. Because the odds are pretty good that half a century ago today, Howard was...meeting me. And if the anniversary isn't today, it's dang soon.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

RUNDOWN The Seattle Seahawks' performance in their season opener was not a huge confidence booster. But their throwback uniforms a huge success. Mitch shares thoughts on the upcoming Apple Cup, which will be played earlier than usual in September at Lumen Field, questioning Washington's chances against Washington State. The Mariners' slim playoff hopes, are they still in it? The Seahawks' first game of the season ended with a 26-20 victory over the Denver Broncos, a performance characterized by a strong defense but struggles on the offensive line. Seahawks' No-Table discuss key moments, including a crucial third-down conversion by Tyler Lockett and standout defensive plays, like Tariq Woolen's interception. Concerns were raised about the offensive line, exacerbated by injuries, including the loss of George Fant. Mitch and CBS college football analyst Rick Neuheisel discuss college football highlights, Neuheisel's predictions, and recent games. Neuheisel celebrates his correct prediction of Texas's strong performance, while admitting Notre Dame still has work to do despite his playoff hopes for them. He highlights elite teams like Georgia, Texas, and Ole Miss, and points to Alabama and Tennessee as potential contenders despite issues. Neuheisel criticizes Deion Sanders' media behavior and questions Colorado's long-term future under his leadership. He praises teams like Nebraska for improvement, and notes Alabama's penalties may have obscured their offensive capabilities. Neuheisel predicts LSU will cover the spread against South Carolina, maintaining his winning streak on Mitch Unfiltered. The Seattle Mariners have won four of their last six games, staying competitive in both the AL West and the wild card race. Mariners' No-Table discuss the team's improved performance, highlighted by better offensive stats, including 38 runs over five games. Despite this, they remain five or six games behind Houston and face challenges with tough schedules ahead. It's Casual Friday! Emma speaks with Jeet Heer, national affairs correspondent for The Nation, to round up the week in news. Emma runs through updates on the Harris/Walz CNN interview, Israel's continuing war crimes, presidential debate protocol, swing state polling, mortgage rates, Trump's absurd IVF pivot, RFK's candidacy, Florida's death penalty, and the death of Johnny Gaudreau. Jeet Heer then joins, as he and Emma parse through some high(and low)lights from Dana Bash's interview of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, walking through her representation of her commitment to a progressive domestic agenda – including a better defense of ‘Bidenomics' than the Biden team has ever offered – while still presenting herself as something “new,” and parsing through her steadfast rhetoric toward continuing support for Israel and their genocide. Expanding on this latter point, Heer unpacks Biden's approach to the genocide in the wake of dropping out of the 2024 election, from his continued commitment to the Abraham Accords to some inklings of sandbagging a future withdrawal of support, before touching on the role Iran is playing in the region and the future of US Foreign Policy. Next, Jeet and Emma look at another VP trying to clean up their President's mess, watching JD Vance perfectly show why he's been called (by Jeet, in this very interview) “the worst VP pick since Aaron Burr” in his response to Trump's recent comments criticizing Florida's abortion ban. And in the Fun Half: Emma watches IUPAT uplift support for a ceasefire and Mehdi Hasan's devastating conversation with UNRWA chief Felipe Lazarini. The MR Team unpacks some unhinged IMs, Trump explores who's really the WOAT president, and JD Vance responds to Trump's Arlington Cemetery fiasco by… further degrading military personnel. An Andrew Callaghan interview absolutely nails pain and insecurity in the US, plus, your calls and IMs!
