Episode 249 of the Big Shot Bob Podcast opens with Brandon Harper and Rob Jenners welcoming seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry back after a week off, including Rob’s trip to Universal’s Epic Universe in Orlando where he spotted Giannis Antetokounmpo visiting with his family right after All-Star weekend. The crew talks about how stars handle public attention, why it’s tough to approach athletes when they’re with family, and the realities of getting recognized in places like airports and theme parks.   They break down the NBA’s new All-Star Game format, praising the shorter, high-intensity setup and crediting the players—especially Victor Wembanyama and Anthony Edwards—for setting a competitive tone. They also criticize the World team’s lack of energy, debate whether a 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 tournament could work, and agree the dunk contest was the worst in memory, brainstorming fixes like having personalities such as Shaq and Kenny “draft” and scout dunkers nationwide since superstars won’t risk losing.   The episode shifts to Pat Riley’s statue unveiling at Crypto.com Arena and Riley’s push for coaches (and benches) to bring back suits and ties, followed by a harsh look at the Lakers after getting blown out by the Celtics on Riley night and James Worthy’s postgame “no heart” comments. They discuss Boston’s defensive approach, the Lakers’ struggles versus top teams, and criticize the team’s effort and urgency—singling out Luka Doncic’s perceived laziness on defense—while previewing the next matchup and noting the looming impact of the 65-game awards eligibility rule on stars like Embiid and others. They also touch on Lindsay Vonn’s severe leg injuries, Michael Jordan’s NASCAR team winning the Daytona 500 and the viral celebration clip that sparked online speculation, Charles “Ko” seeking to play again via the Alabama Supreme Court, and a Barkley “New York Dicks” Inside the NBA moment.   Standings updates include the Thunder and Spurs separating in the West, Detroit leading the East, and a rough stretch for the Kings and Bulls. Big Shot of the Week goes to Team USA hockey for winning Olympic gold in overtime and honoring the late Johnny Gaudreau by bringing his young children onto the ice for the team photo. The show closes with a mascot-themed game inspired by the Olympics’ mascots, running through real vs. fake team mascots across sports, and ending on Robert Horry’s favorite mascot (Denver’s Rocky) and the story of Rocky surviving a parachuting accident.   00:00 Podcast Return 00:56 Universal Trip 01:28 Giannis Spotted 05:17 Fame And Privacy 09:38 All Star Format 13:39 Dunk Contest Rant 15:29 Fixing The Dunk Contest 20:19 Pat Riley Statue 23:16 Suits On Sidelines 28:29 Lakers Get Smoked 29:29 Celtics Win Ugly 30:36 Boston Defense Breakdown 32:17 Lakers Exposed vs Good Teams 33:37 Calling Out Lakers Laziness 36:19 Playoff Plan for Luka 37:57 Rivalry Pride and Pat Riley Night 38:30 65 Game Rule Chaos 40:08 Is It Still Tatum Team 42:08 Tatum Return and Achilles Caution 43:18 Olympics Injuries and Jordan Viral Clip 47:56 College Hoops and Barkley Audio 49:27 Standings Check and USA Hockey Tribute 54:40 Mascot Trivia Game 01:01:45 Rocky Mascot Wild Story

In this Summer Coolers edition of NHL Wraparound, hosts Neil Smith and Vic Morren review the offseason, roster structure, and playoff hopes of the Columbus Blue Jackets—a team that came painfully close to breaking their five-year postseason drought in 2024–25.The Blue Jackets finished with 89 points, just two shy of the final wild card spot, and were eliminated by a regulation win tiebreaker after going winless against the St. Louis Blues in the season series. Despite the heartbreak, the Jackets were one of the NHL's surprise teams, boasting an offense that tied for 7th in the league (3.26 GPG) and scoring six or more goals in 16 games. This episode examines Columbus's offseason decisions, including the high-profile Charlie Coyle–Miles Wood trade with Colorado, the questionable seven-year, $8.5M deal for Ivan Provorov, and the tragic loss of Johnny Gaudreau, which emotionally galvanized the team early in the season. Can this team stay healthy and consistent for all 82 games? And does head coach Ken Evison have another motivational gear without the emotional backdrop of last year?IN THIS EPISODE:[00:00] Columbus recap: Falling short of the wild card[00:38] Offensive strides and surprising firepower[01:00] Coyle & Wood in, Brindley & picks out in trade with Colorado[01:45] Reviewing free agent signings: Hudson Fasching and re-signings[02:30] The shock of the Provorov deal: 7 years, $8.5M AAV[03:30] Tragic loss of Johnny Gaudreau and impact on locker room[04:00] Goalie update: Jet Greaves promoted behind Elvis Merzlikins[05:00] Deadline departures: Tarasov, Kuraly, JVR, Danforth, Harris[06:00] What might have been: injuries to Monahan and Jenner[06:30] Playoff odds: Can they push over the line this time?[07:00] Shoutout: Matthew Olivier's breakout year and fan favorite statusKEY TAKEAWAYS:Columbus made strides offensively last season but lacked late-season consistency, finishing the final stretch 4–11–1 before winning six straight. The Provorov contract surprised many: a long-term, high-AAV commitment for a player with declining impact.Injuries to Boone Jenner and Sean Monahan derailed what was shaping up to be a playoff-bound season.Players like Kent Johnson, Marchenko, Fantilli, and Sillinger will need to continue developing for the team to reach the next level.Matthew Olivier and Miles Wood are expected to form one of the toughest fourth lines in the NHL, offering a physical edge.In a crowded Metro Division, the Blue Jackets' playoff hopes are real—but so are the risks of another near miss.RESOURCE LINKS:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgBj1LV0-DMfBhcRPSJZLjAX (Twitter): https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@nhlwraparoundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555451139787#NHL #Hockey #Podcast #ColumbusBlueJackets #CharlieCoyle #MilesWood #GavinBrindley #HudsonFasching #IvanProvorov #DanteFabbro #OwenSillinger #DmitriVoronkov #DaemonHunt #JohnnyGaudreau #MatthewGaudreau #DeanEvason #SeanMonahan #KirillMarchenko #YegorChinakov #AdamFantilli #KentJohnson #BooneJenner #ZachWerenski #DaniilTarasov #ElvisMerzlikins #JetGreaves #SeanKuraly #JordanHarris #PatrikLaine #JustinDanforth #JamesvanRiemsdyk #MathieuOlivier

Installment 2 of the 2025 Summer Cooler Series as Vic and Neil examine the off-season moves in the Metropolitan Division.IN THIS EPISODE[03:29] - Washington Capitals - From barely making the post-season in 2024 to the top regular season team in the East, can many who had career seasons stage an encore?[12:23] - Carolina Hurricanes - Do two significant off-season acquisitions make the Hurricanes any more of a threat to escape the East?[24:20] - New Jersey Devils - With Jack Hughes and Dougie Hamilton returning healthy, the might be the club that sneaks up on Washington and Carolina for one of the top two spots in the division.[30:45] - Columbus Blue Jackets - A new identity was forged after the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau a year ago. The ability to sustain that identity over 82 games will be necessary in order to crack the playoff lineup next spring.[40:09] - New York Rangers - From Presidents' Trophy winners to fractured franchise, the Broadway Blueshirts start anew with Mike Sullivan taking over behind the bench.[50:03] - New York Islanders - A playoff team in 2024, the Isles missed out last season, switched GM's and have seen players move in and out of the organization during the summer. Though likely to be competitive, the future may be brighter than the present for this group.[1:00:58] - Pittsburgh Penguins - The good news is first time NHL head coach Dan Muse has the likes of Crosby, Malkin and Letang to work with. The downside: aside from a few that will support the trio, the future doesn't look favorable in the Steel City.[1:09:34] - Philadelphia Flyers - Former Flyer and a year removed from the Jack Adams Award, Rick Tocchet takes over behind the bench with some pieces which should be maturing into bona fide NHL talents. The Oilers crushed the Dallas Stars 6-1 in Game 3, with Connor McDavid's late second-period goal shifting momentum after a strong Dallas frame. Coach Pete DeBoer admitted that moment deflated the Stars, who have allowed too many prime chances and seen several key forwards go quiet. Stuart Skinner has outplayed Jake Oettinger so far, especially in Game 3, and looks composed and confident. A missed puck-over-glass call on Brett Kulak turned into a pivotal non-penalty, while Petrovic's crushing hit sidelined Connor Brown. DeBoer gave a lukewarm endorsement of Oettinger’s play, as the series enters Edmonton’s window of dominance under Kris Knoblauch in Games 4–7 (16–2 over the last two seasons). Out East, Carolina is down 3–0 to Florida, and with their stars underperforming, hope is fading. Ray highlights Florida’s depth and how players like Forsling and Mikkola—once overlooked—are thriving. SERIES 3 EPISODE 44: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: We are now at the eugenics stage of Trump morphing into Hitler. We are now at the they-murder-white-people-because-it's-in-their-genes stage. I'm not exaggerating and I am just barely paraphrasing. Trump has now moved one step closer to eugenics, to classifying entire races and nationalities as genetically criminal, to fully embracing the nightmare insanity of Adolf Hitler, to ethnic cleansing and persecution of immigrants because he thinks they WILL commit murder. As Politico described it, a “blood libel,” in an interview with the conservative bobble-head doll of commentators, Hugh Hewitt. Trump quoted his fabricated number of 13,000 murderers migrating across the border, insisting murder is in "the genes" and "we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now.” Later with Laura Ingraham Trump didn't get quite as literal about eugenics but he did say quote “I will keep you safe. I'm not going to allow prisoners to come out from Venezuela… the Congo… the Middle East… Yemen. I'm going to keep you safe. I'm not going to let them help you.” I don't know how much more he has to tell this country before even the coalition of the stupid and the hateful realize that sooner rather than later, a Trump returned to power will attempt to STAY in power beyond his expiration date, by killing somebody they LIKE. Even a tech bro. Or an Aryan with not enough Aryan blood. Or Nick Fuentes because, oops, Fuentes is the same name as some of them immigrants. Or JD Vance because Trump has a really bad loyalty record with Vice Presidents. ALSO: If Republicans keep insisting Democrats are controlling the weather doesn't that imply that Trump was unable to? Musk is now bribing people $47 to sign up for his Trump PAC. He's going to campaign for Trump in Pennsylvania (his favorability is worse than Vance's). And an explanation from Nate Silver as to what kind of Popular Vote victory translates into what kind of Electoral College victory. B-Block (26:30) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Anybody remember the JD Vance/Trump/GOP lie about Haitian immigrants killing and eating geese and pets in Springfield, Ohio? They've convicted the geese guy. His name is Brian and he ain't from Haiti. Jake Tapper opens himself up to fact-checking, or the lack thereof. And the hockey writer who dilutes the Johnny Gaudreau tragedy for a cute line in a season preview. C-Block (34:30) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Howard Stern interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris? I wonder if they'll bring up what they were both doing half a century ago today. Because the odds are pretty good that half a century ago today, Howard was...meeting me. And if the anniversary isn't today, it's dang soon.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

RUNDOWN   The Seattle Seahawks' performance in their season opener was not a huge confidence booster. But their throwback uniforms a huge success. Mitch shares thoughts on the upcoming Apple Cup, which will be played earlier than usual in September at Lumen Field, questioning Washington's chances against Washington State. The Mariners' slim playoff hopes, are they still in it? The Seahawks' first game of the season ended with a 26-20 victory over the Denver Broncos, a performance characterized by a strong defense but struggles on the offensive line. Seahawks' No-Table discuss key moments, including a crucial third-down conversion by Tyler Lockett and standout defensive plays, like Tariq Woolen's interception. Concerns were raised about the offensive line, exacerbated by injuries, including the loss of George Fant. Mitch and CBS college football analyst Rick Neuheisel discuss college football highlights, Neuheisel's predictions, and recent games. Neuheisel celebrates his correct prediction of Texas's strong performance, while admitting Notre Dame still has work to do despite his playoff hopes for them. He highlights elite teams like Georgia, Texas, and Ole Miss, and points to Alabama and Tennessee as potential contenders despite issues. Neuheisel criticizes Deion Sanders' media behavior and questions Colorado's long-term future under his leadership. He praises teams like Nebraska for improvement, and notes Alabama's penalties may have obscured their offensive capabilities. Neuheisel predicts LSU will cover the spread against South Carolina, maintaining his winning streak on Mitch Unfiltered. The Seattle Mariners have won four of their last six games, staying competitive in both the AL West and the wild card race. Mariners' No-Table discuss the team's improved performance, highlighted by better offensive stats, including 38 runs over five games. Despite this, they remain five or six games behind Houston and face challenges with tough schedules ahead. 2316 - Harris Sticks With Biden On Arming Israel, Trump Steps On Florida Abortion Ban w/ Jeet Heer

The Majority Report with Sam Seder

It's Casual Friday! Emma speaks with Jeet Heer, national affairs correspondent for The Nation, to round up the week in news. Emma runs through updates on the Harris/Walz CNN interview, Israel's continuing war crimes, presidential debate protocol, swing state polling, mortgage rates, Trump's absurd IVF pivot, RFK's candidacy, Florida's death penalty, and the death of Johnny Gaudreau. Jeet Heer then joins, as he and Emma parse through some high(and low)lights from Dana Bash's interview of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, walking through her representation of her commitment to a progressive domestic agenda – including a better defense of ‘Bidenomics' than the Biden team has ever offered – while still presenting herself as something “new,” and parsing through her steadfast rhetoric toward continuing support for Israel and their genocide. Expanding on this latter point, Heer unpacks Biden's approach to the genocide in the wake of dropping out of the 2024 election, from his continued commitment to the Abraham Accords to some inklings of sandbagging a future withdrawal of support, before touching on the role Iran is playing in the region and the future of US Foreign Policy. Next, Jeet and Emma look at another VP trying to clean up their President's mess, watching JD Vance perfectly show why he's been called (by Jeet, in this very interview) “the worst VP pick since Aaron Burr” in his response to Trump's recent comments criticizing Florida's abortion ban. And in the Fun Half: Emma watches IUPAT uplift support for a ceasefire and Mehdi Hasan's devastating conversation with UNRWA chief Felipe Lazarini. The MR Team unpacks some unhinged IMs, Trump explores who's really the WOAT president, and JD Vance responds to Trump's Arlington Cemetery fiasco by… further degrading military personnel. An Andrew Callaghan interview absolutely nails pain and insecurity in the US, plus, your calls and IMs!
