If anyone is the poster girl for resilience then it has to be today's guest Carla.Carla went from studying a bachelor of tourism, hospitality and events management to teaching that exact course to other students as well as being the poster girl for the course. Carla's career has included 21 years in hospitality and 3 years in yachting which was driven by her shere passion for 7 star service. She always had working on a super yacht high on her bucket list and started her career in the industry at the age of 33. We chat openly about the advantages and a few challenges that can come with entering the industry later in life. Carla began her yachting journey as a kitchen hand, which involved having to google her way through peeling quail eggs. She also experienced being turned down for a job because of her allergies, suffering an injury and as a result not getting a dream stewardess position, returning to Australia to have surgery but not giving up and packing her bags to move overseas for the 3rd time. The fact that she didn't throw the towel in and allow a few setbacks to taint the industry altogether and she gave it yet another crack was a true testament to her resilience and it was truly inspiring to hear Carla's journey. She shares with us her experience of working onboard a superyacht when the pandemic began, how the industry is adapting to change and what it is like to work on a vessel where over half of the crew contracted COVID-19.If you haven't yet left a review please go ahead and scroll down past all the episodes and go to the section in apple podcasts that says ratings and reviews and just look for the purple box and text that says write a review. I am extremely grateful to be joined today by Vee from Pilates with Vee. The good news is, there was so much valuable content we had to create part 2 so make sure you stay tuned for part 2 coming soon. Before there was Pilates with Vee and traveling the world on Superyachts, there was a small town girl who hadn't gone much further than the east coast of Australia and who, believe it or not she didn't own a passport until she was 20. Vees journey started in 2008 with Virgin Australia as a flight attendant. This role opened her eyes to the opportunities a travelling job could have. In 2011 she took the transitional skills aviation gave her and landed her first job in the yachting industry. Vee fell in love with the job and lifestyle but wasn't drawn to the traditional career trajectory of moving up to a role as Chief Stewardess. This is when Pilates with Vee was created.' Vee now works as a freelance pilates instructor on Super Yachts all over the world. In todays episode we also discuss the true impact the pandemic has had on her career and how the yachting industry is well and truly still in operation, the surprising perks vee has experienced whilst travelling during a pandemic, how she accidently stumbled into the world of yachting and the boom she believes we can expect for superyachting in australia. If you haven't yet left a review please go ahead and scroll down past all the episodes and go to the section in apple podcasts that says ratings and reviews and just look for the purple box and text that says write a review.
