The New Orleans rock band Zebra has always existed out of time. Despite having one of the fastest selling debuts in Atlantic Records' history, Zebra never really fit in with the glammed up ‘80s metal bands they were being lumped in with on the pages and airwaves of Hit Parader and MTV. But that apparent inability to fit in may be exactly what endeared them to hordes of avid listeners who would wear out their bare bones cassette of ZEBRA and eventually go to Kmart and stealthily rip open a vinyl copy of the record to steal the lyric sheet so he could figure out what Randy Jackson was singing. Okay. We may be talking about Scott here. ANYWAY — this week we're thrilled to welcome Mr. Jackson to the podcast to talk about the 50th anniversary of Zebra, recording with Jack Douglas, being a rock band in New Orleans, being a rock band in Long Island, befriending Twisted Sister, touring with Cheap Trick, seeing The Beatles live, being forced to talk about Bon Jovi, and the lyrical prowess of the Moody Blues. And more black beans.

Filiberto Amati, Founder of AmatiAssociates and Head of Partnerships at MAFFEO DRINKS, is a veteran of major spirits companies, including Campari and Di Saronno. He dissects the post-COVID reality facing the spirits industry, revealing how the pandemic created a temporary "shock" that artificially inflated off-trade volumes while disrupting traditional brand-building pathways.Drawing from his deep beverage industry expertise, Filiberto explains how consumption patterns are realigning to pre-pandemic trends—exposing brands that gained artificial traction during lockdowns without building genuine on-trade education or loyalty. The conversation explores how consumers increasingly practice "zebra-striping"—switching between categories within the same occasion—why cultural movements drive successful brand rituals from Aperol's orange visual cue to Corona's lime mythology, and how route-to-market consolidation is reshaping competitive dynamics across the fragmented spirits landscape.Timestamps:00:00 Introduction and COVID Impact Context03:45 Post-Pandemic Volume Normalization09:20 On-Trade Education Crisis Analysis16:15 Off-Trade vs On-Trade Dynamics23:30 Category Blurification and Zebra Striping Occasions28:45 Route-to-Market Consolidation Trends

Wild Zebra, a Seattle-based startup, developed an AI-powered tutor that uses a Socratic approach to guide students through lessons tailored to their interests and learning styles. The platform has been piloted in four schools, serving over 6,000 students, and focuses on math and reading comprehension. Wild Zebra employs multiple large language models for accuracy and privacy, partners with the Educational Records Bureau for anonymized data, and provides teachers with dashboards for tracking student progress. The company raised $2 million to expand its reach, plans to introduce an implementation fee for schools in fall 2025, and intends to launch a direct-to-consumer version.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. There's a career skill no one taught you in school. It's not on your resume. It's rarely on a job description. But it's the difference between being heard and being trusted. Between managing and truly leading. Empathy. And here's the kicker… Most people think they have it. But very few understand what it actually is or how to build it. Today's lesson is one of my most personal. I'll walk you through the three types of empathy (yes, there are three), show you how to practice them, and share a story that changed how I live and love (this WILL bring a smile to your face). If you want to deepen your relationships, earn trust faster, and elevate your career, this one's for you. This week's a special one. I'm going back to one of the most important lessons I've ever taught. Self-awareness. Not the generic, “journal your feelings” kind. I'm talking about a powerful, real-world framework that shows you where your life is out of alignment. Most people define self-awareness as “knowing yourself.”But there are actually two types: Internal self-awareness: How well do you know who you are? External self-awareness: Do you understand how others perceive you? Both matter. A lot. And most people aren't nearly as accurate as they think. That misalignment causes stress. Bad decisions. Unfulfilling jobs. Relationships that drain instead of energize. In today's lesson, I walk you through the six pillars of self-awareness. It's THE practical way to measure whether your life, work, thoughts, goals, and habits are aligned with the person you say you want to be. This isn't theory. It's a diagnostic. And it's going to help you course-correct in a powerful way. If your inner and outer life feel even a little out of sync… this one's for you. This week on the show I talk with Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame inductee, singer/guitarist/songwriter and Zebra frontman - Randy Jackson An absolutely legendary figure on the American Rock scene, Randy and his band 'Zebra' shot to mainstream success in the early 1980's with hit songs like, 'Who's Behind The Door' and 'Tell Me What You Want' - and are still going strong. Randy talks to me about how the band had been grinding in Louisiana from around 1975, before they eventually made the bold decision to relocate out to Long Island, where over the course of the next few years they played alongside bands like Journey, ZZ Top and Aerosmith. We also discuss the use of A.I in modern music, eating habits while on tour and his stint touring with Jefferson Airplane. As only our second ever 'official Youtube - please make sure you check our video conversation out (and subscribe) here - https://www.youtube.com/@musicians-mentorFor more on Randy Jackson or Zebra please visit www.thedoor.com and also ensure that you follow the band and Randy across all socials. For more on Travis Marc or the Musicians Mentor, please visit - www.musicians-mentor.comFor our partnership with our friends over at Soundbrenner, please visit - https://www.soundbrenner.com/pages/affiliate-travis-marc
In the fast-paced world of technological innovation, government contractors find themselves at the forefront of a digital transformation imperative. As these organizations strive to meet strict audit requirements and manage vast inventories of government property, modern RFID technology emerges as a beacon of efficiency and accuracy. Recently, I had the privilege of discussing this transformative impact alongside Therese Van Ryne, Senior Director of External Communications at Zebra, and Pete Collins, President and CEO of A2B Tracking Solutions, on the Zebra podcast. Here's how RFID is reshaping the landscape for government contractors.

And I'm not talking about downloading some shiny productivity app. I'm talking about something deeper and more effective…

Want to think like a high achiever? I've coached thousands of professionals and one pattern is unmistakable. High achievers think differently. It's not about having more time, money, or luck. It's about how they frame challenges, filter distractions, and focus their energy. That's what today's podcast is all about.
In this episode, we're exploring the fascinating world of oscillating chemical reactions — those rare reactions that don't just proceed in one direction, but actually cycle, changing colours as they go.Our guest is mathematical chemistry PhD candidate Heath Dimsey, who helps us unpack how these mesmerizing reactions work, why they defy what we think we know about chemical processes, and how they even help explain the patterns on animal coats — like the stripes of a zebra or the spots of a leopard. On February 20, 1974, while recovering from the effects of sodium pentothal administered for the extraction of an impacted wisdom tooth, Dick received a home delivery of Darvon from a young woman. When he opened the door, he was struck by the dark-haired girl's beauty, and was especially drawn to her golden necklace. He asked her about its curious fish-shaped design. As she was leaving, she replied: "This is a sign used by the early Christians." Dick called the symbol the "vesicle pisces". This name seems to have been based on his conflation of two related symbols, the Christian ichthys symbol (two intersecting arcs delineating a fish in profile), which the woman was wearing, and the vesica piscis.[39] Dick recounted that as the sun glinted off the gold pendant, the reflection caused the generation of a "pink beam" of light that mesmerized him. He came to believe the beam imparted wisdom and clairvoyance, and also believed it to be intelligent. On one occasion, he was startled by a separate recurrence of the pink beam, which imparted the information that his infant son was ill. The Dicks rushed the child to the hospital, where the illness was confirmed by professional diagnosis.[40][verification needed] After the woman's departure, Dick began experiencing strange hallucinations. Although initially attributing them to side effects from medication, he considered this explanation implausible after weeks of continued hallucination. He told Charles Platt: "I experienced an invasion of my mind by a transcendentally rational mind, as if I had been insane all my life and suddenly I had become sane."[41] Throughout February and March 1974, Dick experienced a series of hallucinations which he referred to as "2-3-74",[26][42] shorthand for February–March 1974. Aside from the "pink beam", he described the initial hallucinations as geometric patterns, and, occasionally, brief pictures of Jesus and ancient Rome. As the hallucinations increased in duration and frequency, Dick claimed he began to live two parallel lives—one as himself, "Philip K. Dick", and one as "Thomas",[43] a Christian persecuted by Romans in the first century AD. He referred to the "transcendentally rational mind" as "Zebra", "God" and "VALIS" (an acronym for Vast Active Living Intelligence System). He wrote about the experiences, first in the semi-autobiographical novel Radio Free Albemuth, then in VALIS, The Divine Invasion, The Transmigration of Timothy Archer and the unfinished The Owl in Daylight (the VALIS trilogy).[citation needed] In 1974, Dick wrote a letter to the FBI, accusing various people, including University of California, San Diego professor Fredric Jameson, of being foreign agents of Warsaw Pact powers.[44] He also wrote that Stanisław Lem was probably a false name used by a composite committee operating on orders of the Communist party to gain control over public opinion.[45] At one point, Dick felt he had been taken over by the spirit of the prophet Elijah. He believed that an episode in his novel Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said was a detailed retelling of a biblical story from the Book of Acts, which he had never read.[46] He documented and discussed his experiences and faith in a private journal he called his "exegesis", portions of which were later published as The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick. The last novel he wrote was The Transmigration of Timothy Archer; it was published shortly after his death in 1982.[47]https://amzn.to/3ITbWCTBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

They break down the harmful ingredients often found in everyday wellness products like deodorant and toothpaste, and why the term 'natural' is frequently misused. Jenn believes her children were victims of dirty products and a system that is designed to trick consumers. Her son Jack's diagnosis of a brain tumor made her even more vigilant at researching every single ingredient in the products her family was using. She realized that products are really not always as natural as they seem. She decided if she wanted something truly safe, and high performance she was going to have to create it herself. This is how ZEBRA was born. Jenn's faith and love of country is woven into ZEBRA, not only are the ingredients in the products “black and white,” but she lives by the idea of the constitution and the Bible being black and white as well. ZEBRA is a non-toxic, freedom loving brand who answers to no one but the Creator himself. “As parents dedicated to getting a treatment for our children in their lifetimes, we have turned the rare disease drug development landscape upside down and created a new model,” says Nicole Johnson, co-founder and executive director of the FOXG1 Research Foundation. That's not an exaggeration, as the foundation is on track to make history as it begins patient clinical trials on a gene replacement therapy next year. The former TV news producer and media executive unexpectedly entered the world of patient advocacy and drug research after her daughter, Josie, was born with FOXG1, a genetic disorder which causes severe seizures and impedes normal movement, speech, and sleep among other problems. Johnson is also making an impact in another important dimension of the rare disease space in her efforts to educate parents, teachers, and students about disability inclusion through her Joyfully Josie book series and “Live Joyfully” education programs. Tune-in to this fascinating Year of the Zebra conversation with host Lindsey Smith to find out how the foundation is aiming to bring a drug to market in less than half the time and at a fraction of the cost than the industry standard, and how this model might impact research on other rare disorders. Kevin and Mike dig deeper into the lives of the first three Doodler victims, and a clear pattern begins to emerge around the method and location of these deaths: brutal stabbings in remote hookup spots. When Nathan Winters led a supply chain team earlier in his career, he noticed something that would shape his leadership style: “The credibility you get by the operating leaders when they see you out in the field… is incredibly important.” Whether visiting customers, walking a manufacturing floor, or sitting in on operating meetings, Winters found that physical presence fostered trust—and that trust gave finance a real seat at the table.Today, as CFO of Zebra Technologies, Winters continues to emphasize business partnership grounded in proximity to operations. In the four years since he stepped into the CFO seat, Zebra has weathered post-COVID surges, global supply chain disruptions, and enterprise restructuring. The company's product footprint—often “hidden in plain sight,” from grocery checkout scanners to hospital wristbands—has expanded to include robotics and machine vision, Winters tells us.He's also broadened his own remit, taking on IT and cybersecurity leadership, including oversight of both the CIO and CISO. In that time, Zebra has reduced China-based production from 80% to 30% and introduced new AI capabilities like “Zebra Companion” to automate shelf management for retailers. Internally, Zebra launched a private LLM instance—“Z-GPT”—to streamline tasks from expense report queries to sales presentations.“Your job isn't to just close the books,” Winters tells us. “If you're not analyzing… finding new ways to think about things… you're getting passed up.” At Zebra, finance is not just a control function—it's a strategic force embedded in every operational stride.
Federal Tech Podcast: Listen and learn how successful companies get federal contracts
Connect to John Gilroy on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-gilroy/ Want to listen to other episodes? www.Federaltechpodcast.com Zebra Technologies is the best-kept secret in town. The reason is simple: Zebra Technology has been in business for 55 years and has achieved an impressive amount of success in the commercial world. Jan states that 80% of Fortune 500 companies rely on Zebra for asset tracking. Yet, if one were to walk through a federal technology trade show, one would never identify Zebra. In today's interview, we focused on how Zebra Technologies has had a relentless focus on replacing pen-and-paper systems with modern technology. One unexpected benefit of streamlining asset tracking is the reduction in time to prepare reports. Jan Ruderman states that audit preparation can be reduced from eight hours to twenty minutes. Federal technology leaders are drowning in data, much of which is generated by devices such as Operational Technology under the control of Information Technology. Logistics management is the only way to get control of a rapidly changing system. The real lesson is an application of commercial success to the needs of a federal government that is increasingly operating at the edge.

It was a wild weekend. Donald Trump presided over a military parade on his birthday while an estimated 5 million Americans protested around the country. Phil, Skye, and Kaitlyn discuss the optics of both events and ask, with America's divided politics and media silos, is protesting still effective? They also unpack a new article by Abby McCloskey in CT that argues evangelicalism's focus on a private, personalized faith undermines learning, curiosity, and exercising the mind. Then, theologian and Holy Post Pundit, Michael Bird, is back. He offers an outsider's perspective on Trump's military parade, the “No Kings” protests, and why he thinks more Christians should be concerned about the suspension of habeas corpus. Also this week: More '50s slang and an update on Ed the zebra. Protests in Los Angeles against the Trump administration's immigration policies have turned violent, but will the images of vandalism and attacks on police actually help the President? And Phil asks if there is any way to prevent necessary mass protests from becoming violent. One of the most respected Bible scholars of the last century has passed away. Old Testament professor Walter Bruggemann contrasted the world's vision of scarcity with God's kingdom of abundance, but Kaitlyn thinks his understanding of exile is over-applied today. Skye talks with his Holy Post Media colleague, Esau McCaulley, about his vocation as a priest, professor, and podcaster, and his desire to see Christianity applied to both the beauty and brokenness of the culture.
