Black and white striped animals in the horse family

Oh boy, a talking animal movie counts as a racing movie? Of course it does! Racing Stripes stars Frankie Muniz as a Zebra who thinks he's a race horse. He finds a found family at a ranch after he was abandoned from a Circus. These wild group of characters include Hayden Panettiere, Dustin Hoffman, Whoopi Goldberg, Mandy Moore, Steve Harvey, David Spade, Snoop Dogg, Joe Pantoliano, Jeff Foxworthy, Michael Clarke Duncan and yeah I think that's enough. Hayden Panettiere is a person tho, not an animal. Anyway this episode went of the rails real quick when we started talking about horse breeding.Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Farmers' Almanacs have been around for hundreds of years, offering detailed advice about things like the best time to plant certain crops, and when to wean your calves. But do farmers actually use them? Host Flora Lichtman discusses their place in modern life with astronomer and Farmers' Almanac contributor Dean Regas, and Missouri farmer Liz Graznak. Plus, zebra finches build their nests with a keen eye for color. But is their style easily swayed by feathered peer pressure? Zebra finch expert Lauren Guillette fills us in. Guests: Dean Regas is an astronomer and former Farmers' Almanac contributor based in Cincinnati. Liz Graznak is an organic farmer and owner of Happy Hollow Farm based in Columbia, Missouri. Lauren Guillette is an Associate Professor of Cognitive Ecology at the University of Alberta. Transcripts for each episode are available within 1-3 days at sciencefriday.com. Shimmer: The Polka-Dot Zebra by Taraleigh SkywalkerRapha https://www.amazon.com/Shimmer-Polka-Dot-Zebra-Taraleigh-SkywalkerRapha-ebook/dp/B0F2VSS7SC Based on a true-life event, a polka-dot zebra was born in 2019 on the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Polka-dots being born into a world of stripes–an oddity that has never been seen before. Shimmer is about a zebra that doesn’t even know if she is a real zebra if she doesn’t have stripes like everyone else. She doesn’t fit in and is teased and bullied mercilessly until she eventually forgets her own name. One day a group of bullies push her off a cliff into a muddy bog, where she becomes stuck and comes face-to-face with Blamey, a gigantic crocodile. Blamey refuses to eat Shimmer because she “doesn’t have stripes,” which causes Shimmer to burst into tears that she is not even good enough to be eaten. Blamey, with the help of his flamingo and firefly friends, teaches Shimmer what she is really made of and what really counts. What was seemingly the worst day of Shimmer’s life transforms her. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU. You are a star plucked from the heavens and wrapped in a mud suit. Your inner spirit star was created perfectly. The real you is not mud. You are pure light. Shine.
Pushing Forward with Alycia introduces Lynsey Chediak, a disabled woman and rare disease advocate whose lived experience has shaped work spanning government, global health policy, and biotech. Lynsey shares growing up with arthrogryposis alongside an unaffected twin sister, realizing her difference at school, while also navigating chronic pain, limited medical answers, and systems not built for patients. Additionally, she speaks about how insurance barriers before the Affordable Care Act impacted access. Lynsey discusses rare disease priorities, which includes faster diagnosis, better treatment access, and policy change. Her role at BioMarin involves work to remove prior authorization in California and urging listeners to meet their local representatives. She also recounts ignoring neck pain that resulted in surgery, underscoring self-advocacy, and closes with her mantra that people are stronger than what doctors and medical charts suggest. Recorded live at the NRF Big Show in New York, this episode of The Voice of Retail features Matthew Guiste, Global Retail Technology Strategist at Zebra Technologies, for a strategic discussion on how AI, RFID, and frontline enablement are redefining modern retail. Zebra Technologies, a $5+ billion global enterprise and pioneer in barcode scanning, now powers retail operations through mobile computing, RFID, computer vision, and AI-driven solutions. Guiste explains how Zebra's evolution is centered on enabling frontline associates with embedded intelligence — delivering AI capabilities directly into handheld devices and wearable tools used in-store. A core theme of the conversation is what Guiste calls increasing “technology density” — ensuring more associates have access to connected devices, task engines, communication platforms, and real-time data capture tools. Retailers that invest in frontline enablement see measurable productivity gains and improved employee retention. According to Zebra's 18th Annual Global Shopper Study, nine out of ten associates feel more positive about employers who provide modern digital tools. The discussion explores major operational friction points, starting with inventory accuracy — one of retail's most persistent blind spots. With industry-wide accuracy rates often hovering between 60–70%, omnichannel promises like buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) become vulnerable. RFID adoption, fueled by lower tag costs and retailer mandates, is emerging as a transformative lever, enabling real-time inventory visibility and smarter checkout experiences. Self-checkout also comes under scrutiny. While consumer acceptance has grown significantly since 2019, execution gaps remain. Guiste outlines how the next phase will combine RFID and computer vision to reduce scanning errors, shrink loss, and move toward seamless self-checkout experiences. Returns management is another strategic priority. With return fraud estimated in the tens of billions annually, AI-powered computer vision tools can now assist associates in disposition decisions — determining whether items return to shelf, warehouse, or liquidation — all in real time. Looking ahead a decade, Guiste predicts fewer paper-based processes, disappearing physical receipts and credit cards, and wearable AI tools guiding associates dynamically through tasks — shifting retail from humans using machines to intelligent systems supporting human expertise. For retailers navigating AI adoption, omnichannel complexity, and workforce productivity challenges, this episode delivers clear, operationally grounded insight from one of retail technology's leading strategists. Michael LeBlanc is the president and founder of M.E. LeBlanc & Company Inc, a senior retail advisor, keynote speaker and now, media entrepreneur. We're marking Rare Disease Month 2026 by highlighting the powerful story of Shanthi Hegde, a young patient advocate working to transform how bleeding disorders are understood, treated, and supported. This work is fueled by her own arduous journey with two rare bleeding disorders and immune dysregulatory syndrome, and an extended diagnostic odyssey marked by dismissal, underdiagnosis, and structural bias. “I was told many times by many providers that these disorders are not common in Indians and that my bruises were there just because I'm brown.” Admirably, Shanthi pushed past this mistreatment, advocated for her medical needs, and devoted herself to tackling a range of issues confronting rare disease patients from mental health access to affordable drug pricing to research equity. In this remarkable Year of the Zebra conversation with host Lindsey Smith, you'll also learn about: Shanti's work with the Hemophilia Federation of America; How gaps extend beyond treatment to include insurance coverage, provider training, and substance use care; What clinicians can do to improve the work they do with rare disease patients. Join us for a conversation that connects patient voice to system change, and explores what real equity for rare disease communities will require. Introduction In this episode of the Insurtech Leadership Podcast, host Josh Hollander sits down with Gemma Ros, CTO at The Zebra, to unpack their 2026 State of Auto Insurance Report. They explore what's driving premium divergence across states, how affordability pressure is reshaping consumer behavior, and where regulation, loss costs, and distribution dynamics collide. Guest Bio Gemma Ros is CTO at The Zebra, one of the largest insurance comparison platforms in the United States. Born in Spain, Gemma built her career across engineering and data roles before joining The Zebra, where she leads the technology organization responsible for data infrastructure, product engineering, and AI capabilities. She brings a unique perspective as both a technologist and an insurance industry insider who sees real-time consumer shopping behavior at scale. Key Topics • State-by-state premium divergence — Auto insurance premiums are not stabilizing uniformly. Regulatory environments, loss cost trends, and competitive dynamics are creating vastly different realities depending on where you live. • Affordability pressure and coverage erosion — Consumers facing higher premiums are choosing higher deductibles, lower coverages, and state minimums — creating knock-on effects for uninsured/underinsured motorist exposure across the market. • Carrier growth signals in ad spending — When carriers increase advertising, it signals growth appetite and competitive pricing — a cue for consumers to reshop their policies. • Rate filing dynamics — New rates are being filed and going into effect daily, making the market a moving target for both consumers and distribution partners. • Telematics and ADAS impact on underwriting — Usage-based insurance and advanced driver assistance systems are beginning to reshape how risk is priced, though widespread impact is still unfolding. • Autonomous vehicles and insurance implications — The shift from driver liability to product/manufacturer liability as autonomy scales, and what that means for carriers. • Taking AI from fun to material impact — Gemma's 2026 engineering theme: moving AI adoption from experimental to scalable, repeatable, and operationalized across the entire engineering organization. Quotes • "It's never a bad idea to shop around. Educate yourself — you might be leaving money on the table." • "If you start seeing a lot more ads for insurance companies on TV or on podcasts, that's a good time to reshop — the carriers are signaling they want to grow." • "My main theme for 2026 is taking AI from fun to material impact." In support of the US peace plan for Gaza, President Trump proposed a “Board of Peace” as a transitional governmental authority to ensure Israeli military withdrawal from the territory. It was empowered by the UN Security Council to act on the organization's behalf as a presumably neutral body to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance, rebuild the region that has been physically devastated from war, and oversee security in the return of refugees who have fled the conflict. But as introduced by the American President at the World Economic Forum meetings in Davos in January, it has become a controversial body. Trump advanced a vision of the body, one which includes a payment of one billion dollars (to whom it is still unclear) that could challenge the UN. On today's show we start with an exploration of this new vision for the organization advanced by the US. [ dur: 28mins. ] Stefan Wolff is Professor of International Security at the University of Birmingham. His latest book is Ethnic Conflict: Critical Concepts in Political Science. His latest article in the Conversation Donald Trump's ‘board of peace' looks like a privatised UN with one shareholder: the US president. His latest include Europe must reject Trump's nonsense accusations of ‘civilizational erasure' – but it urgently needs a strategy of its own and Donald Trump's Board of Peace signed at Davos – key points I took away from my visit to the ski resort The Board of Peace was initially and ostensibly created to govern Gaza in light of a peace agreement with the intention of removing Israeli military forces in exchange for a neutral transitional government. This was endorsed by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2803 with very specific tasks outlined, including aiding in the creation of Palestinian governance, the physical and economic reconstruction of the war-torn territory, the delivery of public services and humanitarian assistance, and the return of refugees. In this segment, we examine the Board's ability to accomplish its defined set of goals. [ dur: 30mins. ] John B. Quigly is a Professor of Law Emeritus at Ohio State University. “I kept expecting to die. But I haven't died yet...there's still time left and it's navigating how and what space do you live in every day.” At 26, Rachel was living her dream life in Chicago. She'd moved from her small town Texas roots and was young, independent, and thriving in the city. But mysterious symptoms that began in college refused to go away. After being dismissed by doctor after doctor—told it was anxiety, IBS, or nothing at all—Rachel found herself in crisis. Unable to work, she packed a suitcase and flew home to Texas, putting her Chicago life on pause. What followed was a whirlwind of appointments that led to an unexpected discovery: stage 4 metastatic neuroendocrine cancer, a rare “old person's cancer” that had already spread throughout her body. The diagnosis was devastating but also, strangely, a relief—finally someone believed her. Now 28, Rachel has moved back to Texas permanently for her family's support, undergone major surgery, and is navigating what it means to live with a slow-growing but incurable cancer that gives her a prognosis of 15 to 20 years. In this episode, Rachael and Cody explore what it means to have a terminal diagnosis that still puts a lot of life ahead of you, how to live a full life with a chronic and fatal condition, even how to navigate dating and finding love (Rachael's story of how her girlfriend showed up for her on their third date is so…dang…sweet). Rachael also shares practical advice for supporting cancer patients without making them comfort you, discusses her complicated relationship with the evangelical Christianity of her youth, and explains why the zebra is the symbol for this rare disease. It's all a lovely reminder that you don't need to be dying to live intentionally, that advocating for yourself matters even when no one believes you, and that there's always a lot more life to live.

This week we're diving into Zebra 3 from U-He, exploring why it remains one of the most deep and flexible software synthesizers available today. Rather than a feature checklist, this episode is about discovery, approach and what it feels like to work inside a truly modular synth environment. We'll talk through Zebra 3's oscillators, spectral shaping, modulation system and sound design philosophy, focusing on how its design encourages intentional exploration rather than preset hopping. From subtle movement and organic textures to complex evolving sounds, Zebra 3 rewards time spent listening and experimenting.Along the way we reflect on what makes a synth feel inspiring in long term use, how depth can coexist with clarity, and why tools like Zebra 3 continue to resonate with sound designers and musicians years after their release. If you enjoy slower, more thoughtful discussions about synthesis and creative process, this one's for you. Thanks to our Patrons who support what we do:Audionauts: Abby, Bendu, David Svrjcek, Josh Wittman, Paul Ledbrook, Matt Donatelli and Stephen SetzepfandtLars Haur - Audionaut ProducerJonathan Goode - Audionaut ProducerJoin the conversation:

Send us a textA Starlink meltdown, two missing Terriliums, and the cleanest long-neck builds you've seen—this one is part comedy of errors, part masterclass in the art of putters. We sit down with David Trett of Jet Putters to trace his unlikely route from college basketball to Dallas golf, where resort events, caddie loops, and indoor fitting bays turned into a crash course on performance gear and player psychology. Along the way, he learned to restore and customize putters—and now he shares the process live, sanding down the secrecy that usually shrouds the craft. We get hands-on with the details golfers actually feel. David breaks down why long necks can neutralize torque, how shifting the neck axis toward center changes face rotation, and when deeper milling softens sound without muting feedback. He shows how compact heel-to-toe profiles can sharpen alignment, and he experiments with left-hand neck flips to chase true zero torque. It's shop-floor truth instead of brochure buzzwords—useful for anyone debating face-balanced vs toe-hang or wondering whether a different neck could steady their stroke. There's a candid look at the live selling boom too. As the golf category on Whatnot exploded, volume and “games” reshaped pricing overnight. David explains how he reframed shows as marketing and community—teaching in late-night garage streams, fielding custom orders, and accepting the gritty reality of packing, split shipments, and the rare nightmare of unscanned boxes. The nostalgia thread runs strong: Mizuno blades, Zebra putters, burner bubbles, and proof that smart targets matter more than model year. We trade architecture notes—from the fairness of Sawgrass to the optical mind games of Whistling Straits, the beauty and brutality of French Lick, and why Ross parkland designs reward conviction. At the center of it all is meaning. Heirloom restorations for families, a Blue Angels-inspired Phantom for a retiring Navy veteran—projects that tie craft to memory. If you love custom putters, Scotty Cameron Terrilium, long neck mods, zero torque setups, and real talk about gear, you'll feel at home here. Tap play, share it with a golf friend who tinkers, and leave a review to help more gear nerds find us.Support the showSpecial thank goes out to our show sponsors:
The holidays can be really stressful in schools. But the holidays are also a perfect time to spread smiles in schools. What is a small but significant want to surprise staff and students? Sometimes all you need is a little sugar and a little support. In this week's episode of the This Teacher Life podcast I dive into all the details of the “holiday” Little Debbie December, If you haven't heard of it before, it's because I made it up, but I promise by the end you will have a perfect plan on how to (Swiss) roll it out in the coming weeks. This idea takes the (Zebra) cake. When a family member rejects your disabled or medically complex child, whether through subtle distancing or outright exclusion, it creates a kind of hurt that's difficult to shake. In this episode, Madeline and Alyssa talk through the many ways that rejection shows up in families: minimizing your child's needs, ignoring their diagnosis, designing gatherings your family can't access, ghosting you because emotionally engaging is too hard, or outright excluding or belittling your child.Drawing from hundreds of community responses, we explore the emotional impact of these experiences—the isolation, the grief, the disappointment, and the shift in how we see these family bonds once these hurtful patterns emerge. We also touch on the clarity that can come from moments like this: boundaries that become necessary, expectations that change, and the people who rise to the occasion when others don't.If you've ever felt this kind of hurt from the people closest to you, we hope you feel seen and understood after this episode. And a big thanks to our sponsor for this episode, the makers of the incredible documentary, The Zebra & The Bear!Links:Watch The Zebra & The Bear (coming to streaming platforms the day after Thanksgiving!)Fill out our contact form to join upcoming discussion groups!Follow us on Instagram @the_rare_life!Donate to the podcast or Contact me about sponsoring an episode.Follow the Facebook page. When you have a child with a disability or other medical complexity, the holidays can feel like a minefield, as trauma triggers, anxiety, and grief for what we wish the holidays could have been for our families lurk around every corner. And on top of that, having to manage schedules, special diets, gift expectations, and uncomfortable commentary from friends and family can be emotionally and physically draining. The season often leaves parents of disabled children feeling left out, over-worked –and occasionally– like the celebrations might just be more trouble than they're worth. In today's episode, Amanda Griffith-Atkins and I discuss listener feedback and contributions about how complicated the holiday season feels for parents of disabled children, suggestions for how to make the holiday season feel just a little bit more manageable, and how adjusting our expectations has made a big difference for each of our families. And a big thanks to our sponsor for this episode, the makers of the incredible documentary, The Zebra & The Bear!Links:Watch The Zebra & The Bear (coming to streaming platforms the day after Thanksgiving!)Join Sticker Club!
