Dr. Boros holds a Doctor of Medicine (M. D.) degree from the Albert Szent-Györgyi School of Medicine, Szeged, Hungary and is a retired Professor of Pediatrics, Endocrinology and Metabolism of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. Dr. Boros is the co-inventor of the stable isotope-based dynamic metabolic profiling (SIDMAP) technology, which is a functional biochemistry tool used for detailed biochemical and deutenomics related drug testing, library screening, lead optimization and in vitro and in vivo phenotype profiling. The core technology involves studying natural and disease/drug induced variations in stable non-radiating stable 13C (carbon) and 2H (deuterium) isotope distribution patterns and cross talk among metabolites in living systems. He also established mitochondrial quantum vacuum as the prime driving force of all life related energy producing biochemical events. These occur via the quantum destabilization of hydrogen ions, i. e. protons, in structured water of mitochondrial nano-confinements that are compromised by deuterium; hence the regulation of deuterium (deutenomics, human deutenome project) is a critical process to maintain health and longevity.Dr. Boros trained as a house staff in his medical school in gastroenterology after receiving a research training fellowship from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.  Dr. Boros was a visiting Scholar at the Essen School of Medicine in Germany and also worked as a Research Scientist at the Ohio State University, Department of Surgery.  Dr. Boros is the recipient of the C. Williams Hall Outstanding Publication Award from the Academy of Surgical Research of the United States (1997), the Richard E. Weitzman Memorial Research Award from the University of California (2001), the Excellence in Clinical Research Award from the General Clinical Research Center at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (2004) and Public Health Impact Investigator Award of the United States Food and Drug Administration (2011).  Dr. Boros serves as an associate editor for the journals Springer Nature- Scientific Reports, Medicine, Pancreas, Molecules and Metabolomics.SHOWNOTES:

The future can be a terrifying, anxiety-inducing destination for many people. Thoughts of robots running amok, out-of-control AI, and a speed of life that is beyond comprehension are often ways in which the future is described. That doesn't have to be the case. In fact, the future doesn't have to be something that happens to people. The future can be created. That's the position of Dr. Bertalan Meskó. He is a futurist who has focused his career studying healthcare and advances in the field of medicine. He is also the author of the book “Your Map to the Future.” In this interview, Dr. Meskó discusses why becoming a future-thinking leader can be beneficial to all of us and help our teams perform better. He goes on to discuss methods like “vision writing” and forecasting, how our “future selves” will be grateful for our current healthy investments, and how people can create their own “anticipatory consciousness.” Dr. Meskó is known as the “Medical Futurist.” He concludes the interview by talking about the medical breakthroughs that fill him with optimism, his vision for the future of aging, and the mistakes humans are making today that the people of 2075 will shake their heads at in disbelief.Dr. Bertalan Meskó, PhD, known as The Medical Futurist, is the Director of The Medical Futurist Institute. He specializes in analyzing the impact of science fiction technologies on global medicine and healthcare. The former site of the building was a Turkish fortification, the polygonal Aranybásya, which was largely destroyed when the castle was retaken in 1686, but its remains can still be found on the Bastion level. No written record survives, and it reappeared on the written page of history in 1872. The neoclassical palace designed by Ybl was commissioned by Count Menyhért Lónyay Menyhért, Minister of Finance and then Prime Minister of Nagylónya and Vásárosnamény, whose political career was notable for its great architectural merit and who was also President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences until his death. The villa was owned by Baron Ferenc Hatvany sometime between 1915 and 1923, and from then on became an emblematic point of Budapest's cultural life, home to many famous paintings and works of art. In 1944, a large part of the Hatvany collection was stolen, then hit by an incendiary bomb and destroyed. The Aranybástya in its modern form preserves the memories of centuries of art. Endre Sashalmi's book Russian Notions of Power and State in a European Perspective, 1462-1725: Assessing the Significance of Peter's Reign (Academic Studies Press, 2022) highlights the main features and trends of Russian “political” thought in an era when sovereignty, state, and politics, as understood in Western Christendom, were non-existent in Russia, or were only beginning to be articulated. It concentrates on enigmatic authors and sources that shaped official perception of rulership, or marked certain changes of importance of this perception. Special emphasis is given to those written and visual sources that point towards depersonalization and secularization of rulership in Russia. A comparison with Western Christendom frames the argument throughout the book, both in terms of ideas and the practical aspects of state-building, allowing the reader to ponder Russia's differentia specifica. Endre Sashalmi is a professor of history at the Department of Medieval and Early Modern History at the University of Pécs (Hungary), and is a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His main fields of academic interest and research are comparisons of Western and Russian political thought and political iconography from the 15th to the 18th century, as well as the issue of state formation in Russia and in early modern Europe. Steven Usitalo is a specialist in Russian and Soviet history, modern genocide studies, and the history of film. He is the recipient of several research grants. He co-edited an anthology on Russian history and published a monograph on the Russian polymath Mikhail Lomonosov. Dr. Usitalo is finishing a substantially revised Russian translation of his book on Mikhail Lomonosov. His research focuses on two areas: Russian/Soviet and Armenian film, and the history of the Roma in Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union. When time allows, he is at work on a study of the genocide of the Roma peoples on Soviet territory during World War II. Learn more about your ad choices. Politicians around the world use nationalism. They use it to win elections, and to stoke fear, and to gain and hold on to power. This nationalism is exclusive, based on ethnicity or race or religion. Is there another way? This series will look at nationalisms around the world, and whether they could be countered by a civic, liberal nationalism. In this second episode we look at nationalism in Hungary. First Zsuzsanna Szelényi, a former Fidesz member and author of Tainted Democracy: Viktor Orbán and the Subversion of Hungary, talks about Orbán's long history of using nationalism to trip up political opponents. Then Gergely Romsics, a senior research fellow at the research centre for the humanities, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, who teaches at the department of social science at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, takes a look at the precedents for civic nationalism in Hungarian history and why it is struggling now. The death of a detained young woman in Teheran who had been arrested for ‚bad hijab‘ has provoked demonstrations which started in Kurdistan – Mahsa Amini was Kurdish and Sunni – but evolved into nationwide protests of the Iranian civil society against the enforced rules by the Islamic Republic's regime and against the system in general. It is a particularly sensitive time for Iran because the end of Ali Khamenei's leadership era is foreseeable. A normalisation of relations with ‚the West‘ through a reactivation of the nuclear deal (JCPOA) has failed so far. Tensions are intensifying because of Iran's ‚alliance‘ with Russia. But is indigenous & local knowledge (ILK) being vetted, in a parallel to peer review's vetting of scientific knowledge? And how does ILK add to global biodiversity knowledge, if it is typically very localized? Zsolt Molnár helps me to explore these questions. He is the author of Kommunismus nach 1989 (Mandelbaum 2015), “On Post-Fascism” (2000, Boston Review) and “Telling the truth about class” (2006, Socialist Register), among many others, and writes regularly for numerous journals and newspapers. Lea Ypi is Professor in Political Theory at the London School of Economics. She is the author of Global Justice and Avant-Garde Political Agency (Oxford 2012), co-author of The Meaning of Partisanship (Oxford 2016) and co-editor of Kant and Colonialism (Oxford 2014) as well as Migration in Political Theory (Oxford 2016). She writes regularly for the New Statesman, Guardian, Independent, and more. The idea of citizenship has always maintained a delicate balance between its universalist aspirations and its restricted reality. The recent crisis of global capitalism and the rise of virulent nationalisms have put this balance to the test. Ethnic redefinitions in Eastern Europe (and recently, India) and projects of citizenship-for-sale for those who can afford it, further bruise the concept. To make sense of these dynamics requires rethinking the very framework in which citizenship exists: the nation-state. Ever since the 2008 outbreak of the crisis, the national question has forcefully reasserted itself, not only among the usual suspects of the right, but within the left as well. By framing the nation-state as a shield against global capital, significant parts of the left continue to base their political programs on the exclusion of a significant part of the working class: refugees, migrants, stateless. By doing so, they essentially abandon the class question itself. When the left speaks of the working class but it actually means the German, English or French or whatever national working class, then it is not talking about class at all: class and nation, that is maybe the lesson of the 20. Century, do not go together. In the context of the sharpening features of the capitalist crisis, of which the climate catastrophe is the most visible example, a discussion of the questions of citizenship, migration, nationalism and the state remains of utmost importance.

This talk explores the ways of imagining and planning of possible futures that emerged in the postwar period of Europe in 1918. Elites, intellectuals and large proportions of European societies believed that it was possible to anticipate the future and foresee decisive trends of socio-developments, therefore it was possible to plan for even large systematic changes. However, the multiplication of ideas about what form that future would take suggests much uncertainty about the “future” of Europe itself and brings to the fore the deep layers of individual identities present at the time.

Niche Radio — Deuterium depleted water, a magic elixir found in the fountain of youth. In this episode, I discuss it’s amazing properties and clinical success results. Gábor Somlyai [ https://preventa.org/ ] graduated as a biologist at József Attila University (now University of Szeged) in 1982. Between 1982 és 1990 he worked for the Department of Plant Pathology, Plant Protection Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. From 1983 to 1986 he had a scholarship from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as a postgraduate student for obtaining PhD. In 1988 he defended his thesis in molecular biology. In the same year dr. Somlyai spent 6 months at the Georg-August University in Göttingen with a DFG scholarship and from the end of 1988, he held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri (Columbia, Missouri, USA), where he worked in the field of genetic engineering and gene mapping. In the wake of the Hungarian Nobel-prize winning scientist Albert Szent-Györgyi - who said that the true cause of cancer should be looked for at the sub-molecular level - dr. Somlyai began his investigations in 1990 as a senior research fellow at the Hungarian Institute of Oncology, examining the biological importance of naturally occurring deuterium. In 1993 he established HYD Ltd. for Research and Development (now HYD LLC. for Cancer Research and Drug Development) to carry out anticancer research and drug development based on the proprietary procedure, deuterium depletion and to start drug registration. Between 1993 and 1997 he was the scientific director of HYD Ltd., from 1997 he became the CEO of the company. In 2012 he also began serving as the general director of HYD’s parent company, HYD Pharma Inc.

This year's Sabine Distinguished Lecture in Psychology is "Flow and the Quality of Life" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Ph.D., one of the world's leading authorities on the psychology of creativity. His life's work has been to study what makes people truly happy. Drawing upon years of systematic research, he developed the concept of "flow" as a metaphorical description of the rare mental state associated with feelings of optimal satisfaction and fulfillment. His analysis of the internal and external conditions giving rise to "flow" show that it is almost always linked to circumstances of high challenge when personal skills are used to the utmost. Csikszentmihalyi is a Fellow of several scientific societies, the National Academy of Education, and a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Serving on the editorial boards of numerous professional journals, he has been a consultant to business, government organizations, educational associations, and cultural institutions and has given invited lectures throughout the world. In addition to the hugely influential "Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience," he is the author of 13 other books translated into 23 different languages, and some 245 research articles on optimal development, creativity, and well-being. He is considered the co-founder of positive psychology.

2017.01.29 Is chaos the law of nature and order the dream of man, as Henry Adams once put it? Is "chance" just a name for our ignorance? This lecture demonstrates, through a few examples, why scientists and philosophers inevitably faced these questions, and what kind of answers they gave in the modern era. In order to decide whether certain curious coincidences that we experience are just the play of chance, or obey some hidden rules, one has to understand the basic laws of randomness. These laws are illustrated through a small number of mathematical examples. No mathematical prerequisites are necessary. Gábor Hofer-Szabó (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) gives a talk at the MCMP Colloquium (28 May, 2015) titled "On Einstein's Reality Criterion". Abstract: In the talk we characterize the different interpretations of QM in an operationalist-frequentist framework and show what entities the different interpretations posit. We define completeness and correctness of an interpretation in terms of how this posited ontology relates to the "real world ontology" posited by principles independent of the interpretations. We argue that the Reality Criterion is just such a principle. We also argue that the EPR argument, making use of the Reality Criterion, is devised to show that certain interpretations of QM are incomplete, whereas Einstein's latter arguments, making no use of the Reality Criterion, are devised to show that the Copenhagen interpretation is simply wrong. Next, investigating the nature of prediction, an essential part of the Reality Criterion, we formulate two hypothesis: (i) the Reality Criterion is a special case of Reichenbach's Common Cause Principle; (ii) it is a special case of Bell's Local Causality Principle.
