Self-Discovery is Self-Care with Kristin Hood Ricondo

Self-Discovery was arguably one of the hardest parts of my healing journey because I was living through an identity that wasn't wholly my own. When I began my journey it required me to radically choose myself and in doing so I had to relinquish the parts of me I thought I knew and unlearn, rebirth, and rediscover who I was authentically. The process of self-discovery was for me a love letter to myself and a daily practice of self-care and self-nourishment. Through this practice I was able to restore the power that dwelled within me and develop a stronger sense of self. On this episode of the podcast I'm joined in conversation with Kristin Ricondo whose journey of self-discovery holds within it such powerful messages that deserve to be shared.  Kristin and I have known one another since middle school and have each watched each other's transformation over the years. In sharing our stories with one another we found some similarities but also learned some new jewels. We both share a passion for leaning into purpose and so we came together in hopes that women may find themselves in our journeys and choose to walk in purpose as well! As we journey through our healing a lot of us find ourselves uncovering that a lot of our behaviors, responses, and negative patterns are survival or coping mechanisms we created from a place of trauma in our childhood age. We find ourselves still reacting, responding, and engaging in childlike behaviors spurned out of childhood trauma manifesting in our adult relationships with ourselves and others today. We've played out these behaviors so often they metastasize into every aspect of our lives that it becomes our identity. No longer able to recognize yourself as who you were prior to the trauma or what you may have become had the trauma never existed, you operate from a place of pain. And as we know too well, “hurt people, hurt people.” Without healing and nourishing your inner child you may find your individual growth and life journey stunted by repeat negative cycles and patterns. You're unable to break free to unlock your full potential. Childhood traumas have the ability of shaping a person's belief about themselves and the world, affecting their ability to form healthy relationships, regulate their emotions, and manage stress. At whatever age the trauma occurred, if you haven't taken the time to confront it you are still moving through the world at the age and place of your pain. Sometimes we must journey into our pasts to recognize and acknowledge a thing to be true, to understand it, and to validate the feelings associated with it. Once we have, we can begin to craft a change for our future. We have permission to envision something greater. You couldn't control where you came from or what happened to you. You can control who you become. This is an essential step to unlocking your potential, stepping into your power, and liberating yourself to acquire the joy you are so deserving of! Join me in conversation with my sister friend and author Crystal Wright Adams in this week's episode 5, Healing from Within, wherever you listen to your podcasts. To obtain Crystal's book Perversion of Love visit the following address: Perversion of LoveHer upcoming book The Parent Trap is set to have a tentative release date this upcoming May 2023. Let's not miss a chance to connect as women and let it be beautiful! Social Media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/visionaryjewelsllc/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/visionaryjewelsllc Subscribe with your email to be alerted when a new episode is released. Website: http://visionaryjewelsllc.com Email: podcast@visionaryjewelsllc.com Make sure to Follow, Like, and Subscribe on your podcast platform of choice. Please take the time to rate and review Visionary Jewels Podcast wherever you listen in! Who Told You You Weren't Worthy with Kim Seody

As women we often find ourselves in a silent battle over ideas of self-worth. Often operating in spaces in both our personal and professional lives where we feel as though we are imposter. Unworthy of taking up space in a particular landscape? Why is that? There are a multitude of reasons ranging from patriarchal societal norms bred out of historical traditions, roles, customs that have yet to be reformed to invite women into the experience that is life. We've known that narrative to be true but what they don't tell you or what we as women don't tell ourselves enough is that this is by design. Now that we know it exists how do we dispel the narrative and live in our power and in our truth anyways? There's no easy, linear, straightforward solution to this because the thoughts are as diverse as the women we are and reside in us. What I can say is that through healing, affirmation, believing to what you know about yourself to be true and harnessing that power to live authentically, uniquely, and as wonderfully as you are is everything you need to start in on the path of tearing down the anxiety of imposter syndrome.  Don't misunderstand me, this is not a plea telling women to alter themselves or propose that you are the issue. Absolutely not, I suggest that we not wait for the culture to change for us. Let's change it for ourselves and for those women that follow. Let's collectively dismiss the notion that imposter syndrome is only designated for women and come to understand that the anxiety you may feel as you begin a new job, position, role, make new friends, and any number of life events is just that anxiety. Those feelings are valid and it is not prescribed to any one gender. I invite you to take up space and let's make this year and every year your year of yes!Join me in conversation with my good friend Kim Seoudy in this week's episode 4 Who Told You You Weren't Worthy, wherever you listen to your podcasts.Let's not miss a chance to connect as women and let it be beautiful! Related Resources: Stop Telling Women They Have Imposter Syndrome by Ruchika Tuishyan and Jodi-Ann Burey; Published by Harvard Business Review. Social Media: Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/visionaryjewelsllc/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/visionaryjewelsllc Subscribe with your email to be alerted when a new episode is released. Website: http://visionaryjewelsllc.com Email:  podcast@visionaryjewelsllc.comMake sure to Follow, Like, and Subscribe on your podcast platform of choice. Please take the time to rate and review Visionary Jewels Podcast wherever you listen in! In the spirit of love and relationships, I'm bringing you a self-reflective, intriguing, and introspective set of conversations on relationships. How we heal from past truths/traumas from previous relationships and how we come whole in our present ones. Whether that's moving forward in the greatest relationship that is with yourself or how you come whole in a brand new one. From both conversations and perspectives you will find that the healing journey is unique for everyone and that the common theme is that we must heal, discover ourselves, and repair the relationship with ourselves so that we can attract what we desire.Hopefully you are able to receive the messages that were being relayed from the two conversations regarding the perspective of relationships. Acknowledging the healing journey is required to reveal some past or hard truths that are still presenting and functioning as traumas in your present relationships both romantic and platonic. In some cases the relationships weren't necessarily bad or good but they were at a level of intimacy that had the power to reveal some truths about yourself. A major theme in both conversations was the need to radically choose oneself to begin the healing and usher in the joy. My hope for you is that no matter where you find yourself, whether that is in a relationship or out of one. I hope you will create time and space to explore what needs healing so that you can usher in the joy you so deserve! Don't be afraid of practicing silence and solitude to reveal truth to yourself and don't be afraid to say no to others so that you can say yes to yourself! In all things celebrate how uniquely wonderful you are! Let your dreams become visions and your visions reality. Reframe Your Healing

Welcome back, Happy first week of a new month. Happy Black History Month! On today's episode of the podcast I had, and still have every intention to discuss the topic of healing. Specifically, today we were going to discuss reframing our mindset around the topic of healing. I still to intend to talk about that but I'll be going about it in a way that was unexpected and not quite what I planned. Hopefully the what I provide today paints a vivid picture on the necessity of healing and changing our mind around what it means to heal. Healing is usually associated with dark and heavy emotions. Or even traumas from the past into the present that we aren't yet ready to face. I'm actually not going to argue that fact. It is that and healing is also so much more than that. When I think of healing, I talk about my experience with healing providing freedom, providing unbridled joy, providing the answers you've been seeking, providing the warmth and the comfort you've been needing, the opportunity to walk through life unaffected by the guise of others. When I think of freedom and joy being implications to healing my soul radiates with joy! Healing is meant to assist you in coming home to yourself and help you on your journey of self-discovery. The reward of gratitude you have for living after facing all that you have gone through. The power that you have in yourself in understanding all that you have accomplished, all that you have overcome despite. That's the joy in healing. Sometimes the heaviest part of healing is reckoning with hard truths and traversing past traumas that you uncover within your history. It's maybe the biggest part of your healing journey. In understanding who you are with the context of history you stand to harness your greatest power in through healing and self discovery. Imani Perry the author of the book South to America stated that, “History is an instruction and what you neglect to tend to in the past you will surely ignore in the present.” It should instruct our future as a way to progress toward better virtues and much like ourselves seek truth and transformation. Lately, my history, Black history is facing an attack. Erasure, something we are all too familiar with as a people. I was afraid to speak my truth today on this episode but what better place than here and there is no greater time then now!Let's not miss a chance to connect as women and let it be beautiful! Social Media:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/visionaryjewelsllc/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/visionaryjewelsllcSubscribe with your email to be alerted when a new episode is released.Website: http://visionaryjewelsllc.comEmail: podcast@visionaryjewelsllc.com Make sure to Follow, Like, and Subscribe on your podcast platform of choice.  Please take the time to rate and review Visionary Jewels Podcast wherever you listen in! Hello Ladies and welcome back! Happy New Year! That's right it's still the New Year and we're in a New Month! Tell me what is the first thing that comes to mind for you as we arrive at the New Year. If your anything like me and well the rest of the world, as a society we tend to look to the New Year as a clean slate. New opportunities and a chance to make some dreams reality. I'm no stranger to this! It was in the New Year that Visionary Jewels became a vision that was gifted and then manifested into what it is today. How many of you have a tradition of creating vision boards, journaling, affirming, and setting intentions. I started a new tradition about 3 years ago at the start of the 2021 New Year of taking the time to myself during New Years Eve to journal into the New Year crafting my visions and setting intentions. I'd start in a celebration of gratitude and self-reflection, fix me a nice charcuterie board and some wine. Put on some nice music, light my candles, set the mood, create a vibe, and I sit down and I'd be intentional in drafting the life I envisioned for myself. My vision for myself others cannot see. It's mine, it's sacred, and it's holy and I know that that vision, or any vision,  once it's discovered, aligned with purpose, and driven with passion then and only then will others be able to see it as clearly as I when I first received it. What does this mean? It means that there is a reason that you receive the vision alone and the process to make it come to fruition is a lonely one. There is work to be done in healing and self-discovery while the vision is being manifested because to harness the vision you've envision it asks for a level of self-awareness, confidence, and wholeness to come to the table. No one can do this work for you. It is yours! If you haven't already created a journal to assist you in writing the vision down and manifesting it for yourself. Logging your healing, habits, and thoughts. It's not too late and now's the time! I created an intentional Visionary Gratitude Planner to assist you in monthly and daily gratitude prompts, as well as tracking your daily priorities, to do lists, and hourly schedule. I have also included some affirmation offerings to you at the start of each quarter to hone in on your self-reflection while in alignment with the Visionary Pillars which are healing, self-discovery, purpose, and passion. Hey There, It's been awhile since we last spoke and I'm compelled to ask… How are you all doing? How are you feeling? I ask because this time of year can bring on a multitude of complex emotions. As we know in life we flow through extreme high's and sometimes very low low's and some of us are fighting silent battles.  Can I be honest. My life has been pretty hectic.  I thought I'd come on here and share because I feel it is so relevant and so important for my listeners to understand. To have a dream is one thing, but to be consistent is another. I'm struggling with consistency not because I don't love what I do. No not that at all!! It's more of understanding the demands and commitment that is “solopreneurship.” We are in the season of fourth quarter productivity and end of the year/new year. Are ya'll familiar with the season? It's a season that signals to you to hurry up. The end of the year is coming! It asks, what can you get done within this quarter and what haven't you done? What goals can you complete or accomplish before the end of the year, and have you planned your quarter 1? Is anyone feeling the choking anxiety as I ask these questions?  Yea, that's the point! This type of productivity is riddled with the capitalistic/over-productive mindset that asks you to sacrifice self in exchange for burnout. For weeks, now months I've remained in this field of fog unable to find my way out of it. The break has turned into a hiatus. My intended purpose for the break or from what I was taking a break from is no longer as clear. In times of uncertainty, I take a moment to work backwards to the root cause. I identify the main problem. This requires me to really sit in the un-comfortability and vulnerability of those feelings. When I sat with those emotions, I wanted to revisit the main character of this story. My trauma response. Perfectionism. This is the Final Episode of the Pilot Season!!!And ladies on that note. I'm going to take a moment to celebrate myself! I started an entire business in this year and launched a podcast on my own!!! I have started my 3rd year of doctoral school finally deciding on my research question, writing my first two chapters completing the literature review chapter which consisted of reviewing 72 pieces of literature within 2 weeks. The impossible seems impossible sometimes but I'm here to tell you it is very possible.  This year was one hell of a challenging year for me I lost my grandmother, my first and only dog, and have been riddled with serious health problems that came unexpected and look at what was accomplished. It's beautiful.  I'm so happy to be doing it with ya'll and I want to give my listeners now and the listeners to come a special thank you. Thank you for taking a chance on me. I know that there are plenty of people you could follow or listen to but you have chosen me and it does not go unnoticed, overlooked, or without gratitude. Solace In Solitude Reveals Truth

In the first episode, I talked about a vision I received recently that is the vision that is Visionary Jewels. In this episode, I want to talk about the preparation I had to go through to be able to receive that vision. That preparation didn't come overnight. It wasn't all sunshine and roses, it took years, sometimes it was painful, and in the end magnificent. It was necessary and at times remains a practice of mine to continue on the path of clarity. What am I saying when I say spiritual solitude? For me it is the act of one going into a state of isolation where they are challenged in this time to look at themselves and within themselves to ask important questions like. Who are you? Do you like who you are and where you are at? Are you hurting? Are you happy? You are essentially assessing yourself in your present state and asking yourself if this was your intent for your life or do you wish to change it? How it is spiritual is in its timing. It's being divinely directed to you through experiencing a previous set of shifts that naturally guide you into this state of isolation. There's Levels to This: Intersectionality

We as women all face unique experiences in our lives that cause us to go through many challenging and sometimes traumatic ebb's and flows. Unfortunately, without we as a society doing the important work of healing and reckoning with the systemically ingrained transgressions and traumas that plague us we as a society fail to heal. We disparage the chance for women to craft and curate their own identities unbeholden to societal expectations and norms. I want to continue the conversation on the topic identity as we did last time on episode 2. On today's episode I will approach the topic from a personal perspective that is near and dear to my heart which is the many levels of Intersectionality as it relates to the dark skinned black woman. Attorney and Scholar, Kimberle Crenshaw coined the term intersectionality. She discovered in researching through her many legal cases that a specific phenomenon occurs. She states, – The intersection of racism and sexism creates a different experience for the black woman, and at the intersection there are certain stereotypes, tropes, and difficulties, that black women uniquely faceThis episode I am joined by a very special guest, my best friend Ciera Young of Mamasbrew coffee. Whose Identity is it Anyways?

On this episode I'm going to give it to ya'll straight, no chaser! We are going to dive into the topic of identity as it's defined by normative societal patriarchal gender norms. The main thesis being, that I feel women inherently come into their womanhood lost because our views and our worth are shaped by societal and patriarchal norms from the very start. Our identity is warped before it can even begin to mature into its authenticity. Our value is determined by whether we attain the roles the patriarchal society would like us to accept.  This conditioning goes beyond the personal relationships we're in. It can be found regenerating within our communities and throughout generations. Whether you are single, a wife, and/or a mother I challenge us to reflect on what our identities are beyond these roles and not have the limiting belief that these roles are all that we are meant to achieve. I challenge us to reflect on what happens when you dare to dream and seek limitless possibilities? What does that look like for you? Who are you beyond the normative societal patriarchal gender roles? Who are you beyond the period at the end of the sentence? Who do you wish to create and show up as in this world? Without the dictations of what the world expects of you what do you expect of you?I'm here to propose that self-invention is possible even amongst normative gender constructs. Instagram: @visionaryjewelsllcEmail: podcast@visionaryjewelsllc.comWebsite: https://visionaryjewelspodcast.buzzsprout.com
