"Send Ben a text"When your teen says, “I'll do it later,” it can feel like they are ignoring you, avoiding responsibility, or trying to start a fight. But “later” does not have to turn into a power struggle. In this episode, I'll show you one simple question to ask when your teen says “later”:“What time later?”This question helps your teen move from vague promises to a real plan. It gives them a voice without giving them control of the house. And it helps you stay calm, clear, and in charge without nagging, yelling, or giving in.You'll learn why “later” triggers parents so much, why clamping down often makes things worse, and how to help your teen take more ownership. If chores, screens, homework, curfew, or bedtime keep turning into the same fight over and over, this episode will help you handle that moment in a better way.Are You Caught in the Parent Trap?Discover the hidden patterns that are keeping you stuck—and how to break free.Take this quick (and eye-opening) quiz to uncover which common parenting trap you're falling into with your teen. Get a personalized roadmap to help you parent with more clarity, confidence, and connection—starting today.https://benpughcoaching.com/parenttrapquiz

Tread Perilously's fantasy month continues with a trip to Fantasy Island called "Voodoo/Parent Trap." Much to Tattoo's dismay, Mr. Roarke accepts $51 from two children who desperately want to see their parents back together. Under the guise of inspecting the children's survival weekend, the mother and father -- and their respective fiances -- end up stuck in a rustic cabin. Meanwhile, Roarke aids an amnesiac to discover whether or not she is the heiress to a rubber plantation. He also employs the help of the voodoo adherents who lived on the estate. But is there more to this fantasy than meets the eye? Justin makes his first visit to Fantasy Island and immediately learns to love Ricardo Montalban's Mr. Roarke. Erik reveals the "Parent Trap" segment's other name. The pair discuss the reasons why this is one of the lowest rated episodes of the series on IMDb. The presence of Hervé Villechaize as Tattoo leads to a discussion of lesser Bond movies. The true nature of Roarke is also debated. The "Voodoo" segment, meanwhile, gets raked across the coals for obvious old-timey racism. But a surprise special guest proves good in their role. Erik admits to enjoying both film versions of The Parent Trap and a bear in one of the segments calls the spirit of a certain filmmaker to pronounce his judgement on the proceedings.

In this follow-up Parenting Is a Joke episode, Ophira Eisenberg and comedian Ahri Findling zero in on the strange overlap between parenting, comedy, and creative identity, starting with Findling's Instagram bits that splice mundane parenting tasks—like folding laundry—with explosive movie quotes that suddenly feel accurate once you have kids. Their conversation moves through watching childhood films with a new lens, as Ophira revisits E.T. and can only see the overwhelmed single mom feeding her kids junk and leaving a four-year-old home alone, while Findling reinterprets The Parent Trap as a borderline criminal act of separating twins. From there, Findling articulates his comedic approach—mining the small, uncomfortable truths of marriage and parenting, like imagining himself at his wife's casket both professing love and quietly panicking about not knowing where anything is—and connects it to a broader philosophy that nothing in family life is unique, which becomes oddly comforting for parents juggling creative careers. They get specific about the logistics of stand-up life with young kids, including missing bedtimes, reframing gigs as “work” (a tip from Chris Gethard), and the guilt of being physically absent but creatively dependent on those experiences, alongside moments like Findling's daughter hiding his shoes to stop him from leaving for a show. The episode also captures the granular negotiations of parenting style—whether to allow swearing at home, how to handle kids absorbing language from Brooklyn streets or Mormon neighbors upstairs, and the constant resetting required when a child abruptly rejects their favorite food or rewrites the rules overnight. Throughout, both comics return to the idea that parenting is improvisational and deeply humbling, whether you're observing your kid from afar at the park realizing they're becoming their own person or trying to stay consistent in a job that requires leaving the house at bedtime, all while remembering Findling's rule that some days the best strategy is simply to think like a goldfish when your kid suddenly insists they've never liked chicken nuggets in their life. Have you ever found yourself trying so hard to be a “perfect parent”… only to feel like it's not quite working the way you expected? In this episode of It's a Mindset, I'm joined by Lisa Taylor - family therapist, relationships consultant, speaker and founder of Strengthening Families Australia. With over 25 years of experience supporting families, schools and organisations, Lisa brings a deeply heart-centred approach to helping us understand the patterns that shape how we connect. Together, we explore what Lisa calls the “Perfect Parent Trap” - the pressure to get it right, to say the right thing, to respond perfectly - and how that can actually move us further away from the connection we're really seeking. Instead, Lisa invites us to shift from control to connection, and to become more aware of the emotional imprints from our own upbringing - what she calls our heartprints - and how they influence the way we show up as parents today. This conversation really resonated with me on a personal level. Lisa and I are at a similar stage of parenting, and as fellow authors in the Expert Author Community, there was such a natural connection and shared understanding between us. I absolutely love the work she's doing to support families, and the insights she shared - particularly around our own heartprints - were incredibly powerful. This is one of those episodes that gently invites you to pause, reflect and consider how you're showing up in your closest relationships - not from a place of judgment, but from a place of curiosity and growth. Key Episode Takeaways: What the “Perfect Parent Trap” is and why trying to get it right can backfire How your own childhood “heartprints” shape the way you parent Why shifting from control to connection can transform your relationships The importance of presence - being where your body is - in creating deeper connection About the Guest: Lisa Taylor is a family therapist, relationships consultant, speaker and founder of Strengthening Families Australia with over twenty-five years of experience walking alongside thousands of families, schools and organisations across Australia. Her heart-centred approach helps parents, educators and leaders strengthen relationships, heal generational patterns and transform how they connect with one another. “BESS FLOWERS & FRANKLYN FARNUM: QUEEN & KING OF THE EXTRAS” - 4/13/2026 (135) Actors BESS FLOWERS and FRANKLYN FARNUM were absolute legends of the “blink and you'll miss them” world. They weren't headliners — in fact, they often were not credited or even noticed, but honestly, that's what makes them so fascinating—their careers quietly stitched together the fabric of classic cinema. They were Extras. Without them and other extras like them, all those iconic movie moments would feel a lot less alive. Their careers spanned decades and thousands of films. They became, in their own way, silent witnesses to the evolution of Hollywood from the silent era through the golden age and into the modern period. So this week, we're going to explore the lives and careers of BESS FLOWERS and FRANKLYN FARNUM, examining not only their astonishing productivity but also their unique roles within the Hollywood system. By looking closely at the films in which they can best be seen, we gain a deeper appreciation for their contributions and the overlooked artistry of background performers. We are recapping the week of March 30 through April 3, 2026. Nathan left breakfast with James and Felicia and went to Wyndemere, where Sidwell confirmed he was not speaking to Nathan West — he was speaking to Cassius Faison. We have a lot of questions about where this twin fits into the Faison family history and the show has not answered them yet. Before Marco's service, Carly tried and failed to talk Sonny and Ric out of going, asking Sonny what he would have done if Julian had shown up to Morgan's funeral. Laura had already come by earlier in the week and disclosed to Ric for the first time that she was also being blackmailed by Sidwell. The service happened off camera, which we were not thrilled about, Sidwell told Sonny he would be sorry, and Lucas turned down Carly's offer of a room at the Metro Court. He is staying at Wyndemere and he knows exactly what he is doing. We are also sitting on a theory we hope we are wrong about. Ric may be working for Sidwell. He came back to Port Charles shortly after Lucky escaped Sidwell's compound, is now Sonny's closest advisor, knows everything including Laura's involvement, and this week drew a deliberate single tear down his cheek to get information out of Liz at GH. Lucas, meanwhile, pieced together with Britt that Cullum killed Marco by reading texts on Marco's phone, then realized he had saved the life of his boyfriend's killer. He had a panic attack. His move into Wyndemere is not grief. It is strategy, and proving Cullum is a double agent could mean justice for Marco and a path to freeing Jason. Elsewhere Rocco is barely holding it together, Willow overheard Trina tell Kai they both know she shot Drew, Michael noticed Drew blinking, Wiley asked a foster care social worker what a hooker was, Cody won a raffle trip and Molly came out of surgery telling him no more long sleeves.
