As we journey through our healing a lot of us find ourselves uncovering that a lot of our behaviors, responses, and negative patterns are survival or coping mechanisms we created from a place of trauma in our childhood age. We find ourselves still reacting, responding, and engaging in childlike behaviors spurned out of childhood trauma manifesting in our adult relationships with ourselves and others today. We've played out these behaviors so often they metastasize into every aspect of our lives that it becomes our identity. No longer able to recognize yourself as who you were prior to the trauma or what you may have become had the trauma never existed, you operate from a place of pain. And as we know too well, “hurt people, hurt people.” Without healing and nourishing your inner child you may find your individual growth and life journey stunted by repeat negative cycles and patterns. You're unable to break free to unlock your full potential. Childhood traumas have the ability of shaping a person's belief about themselves and the world, affecting their ability to form healthy relationships, regulate their emotions, and manage stress. At whatever age the trauma occurred, if you haven't taken the time to confront it you are still moving through the world at the age and place of your pain. Sometimes we must journey into our pasts to recognize and acknowledge a thing to be true, to understand it, and to validate the feelings associated with it. Once we have, we can begin to craft a change for our future. We have permission to envision something greater. You couldn't control where you came from or what happened to you. You can control who you become. In Mark chapter 4, the disciples find themselves afraid for their lives as they are caught in a storm they are unable to handle. Hearing their desperate cries, Jesus silences the storm and turns His attention to His fearful followers. "Then He asked them, 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?'" (Mark 4:40).Jesus' decision to enter into this storm with His disciples was not an accident, but instead a brilliant opportunity to help them see that their fear was rooted in not yet understanding who He really was and how much He loved them.  So, why are you so afraid? Just like with His disciples, God continues to intentionally orchestrate the circumstances and storms of your life to cause you to come face to face with your need to really know and experience Him. The storms you are facing are of immeasurable worth because they allow all fears and false beliefs to be revealed, so that God can remove them and replace them with a deeper understanding of His great love and power. Dudders catches up with former ScareHouse Director of Operations, Crystal Wright, at Transworld in St. Louis. Into the Dark production company combines the theatrical and technical talents of David and Joshua. Terror Vault is Into the Dark's first production and located in the old San Francisco mint. Joshua's love of haunted houses began with the Morbid Manor in Ocean City. Crystal tells us what it's like being away from haunted houses for a year and discovering Terror Vault in her new neighborhood. Returning haunt actors are very important. They can help teach new actors about how to pace themselves. Newbies often underestimate how exhausting haunt acting is. Preparing for a haunt season is a yearround job. "Normal" employers don't always appreciate all of work you do at haunted houses. Why it's a great idea to add a behind the scenes tour to your haunted attraction. Joshua and David worked to put everything they loved into the show. The cool thing about having a haunted attraction in an old building. Talking "yinzer". Some of the differences between east coast and west coast haunted attractions. Using unique characteristics of your location in your show. Even haunters get scared sometimes. Crystal and Dudders have cleaned up their share of customer tinkle. Kids and haunted houses. "Wearing many wigs" is a much better saying than "wearing many hats". Adjusting your show for groups that may have unique needs. Crystal's experience of working in The Basement at ScareHouse. Terror Vault is a predominately queer haunted attraction. Go through the finish line and have fun-Crystal Wright What do barrel racing and big mountain skiing have in common-in this week's episode I ask Wyoming native Crystal Wright what the commonalities between horses and big mountain ski lines. Crystal shares her thoughts about her athletic careers as well as what it's like to start your own business, a non-profit, and running women's ski camps. Thanks for listening!   Bio: I was born in Jackson Hole Wyoming in 1982, my parents had moved to Jackson to be ski bums in the 70’s and have resided there ever since. I remember skiing on wooden skis down my driveway when I was 2 years old. When I was five years old my family took a managing position at Big Sandy Ranch in Pinedale, WY right at the base of the Wind River Mountain range. The ranch was 2 hours from Jackson, 50 miles from the closest town and had no electricity. So I would spend my summers on a ranch and my winters in Jackson, I felt very lucky to live in two such beautiful places. I started showing horses, barrel racing and roping when I was nine years old, that is how I would spend my summers. Having the Wind River and Teton mountain ranges in my back yard has also opened me up to the world of rock climbing and mountain biking which I love almost as much as skiing. I started ski racing with the Jackson Hole Ski Club when I was nine and worked my way up the ranks of ski racing. I became a member of the Western Region Elite Ski Team when I was 15 and later traveled with U.S. Ski Team through Europe and South America until I was 20 years old. In 2002 I was chosen to forerun the Women’s Olympic downhill in Snowbasin Utah and was the first person to ski the course. It was one of the best experiences of my life being able to compete with the best women skiers in the world. I also had many top 5 results in various downhill Nor-Ams and raced Europa Cup downhills. I then went on to college where I had to transfer my talent to the technical events and raced NCAA skiing at Montana State University. I also was a member of the Rodeo team as well, so I traveled much during the fall and winter months of college. During my racing career I never lost my love for freeskiing and skiing  the Jackson Hole backcountry. I couldn’t wait until my racing career was over and I would be able to compete and ski on the big mountain circuit. Through all my years of racing the one thing that kept me competing at such a high level for so long was being able to go ski powder and steeps with my friends and family. After spending 9 years competing on the Freeskiing and Freeride World Tours I have now retired from following the tour. I won the Freeskiing World  tour in 2009 and 2012 and was on the podium 22 times. I am still pushing myself in the skiing through skiing more in the mountains and doing a competition or two every season. I own my own gym Wright Training www.jhwrighttraining.com that works with bringing people back from injury and getting people to perform at their best in the mountains. I cofounded the Jackson Hole Babe Force www.jhbabeforce.com in 2012 which brings ladies together to share their passions in the mountains and push themselves out of their comfort zones. I am also starting to coach women’s camps in Jackson Hole and had my first annual women’s camp in Chamonix, France last year 2015! Who is Setting the Value Standard for Black Life in America?

The Verdict is in...Not Guilty.    According to a newsletter by the Children's Defense Fund, Black children and teens were 17 times more likely to die from a gun homicide than White children and teens in 2010. Since 1963, 59,265 Black children and teens have been killed by guns -- more than 17 times the recorded lynchings of Black people of all ages in America between 1882 and 1968.   An article by Crystal Wright in The Guardian states, "Startling statistics reveal that between 1980-2008, African-Americans were six times more likely than whites to be victims of gun violence and seven times more likely to kill with guns than whites, according to the Justice Department. African-Americans represent a mere 13% of the US population yet more than 50% of federal prisoners are black. You can claim racial bias in the judicial system, but that doesn't explain all of it.   Why aren't so-called black leaders outraged and marching over therecent shooting rampage in Chicago. During the 4 July holiday weekend, including the Wednesday leading up to it, 62 people were wounded by gun violence in Chicago and 12 others killed. The holiday shooting spree raised Chicago's homicide tally to 200 for the year. Last year about 500 people were killed, and most of those killing and being killed in Chicago are black. According to the Chicago Tribune, "blacks make up about 33% of the city's population, they accounted for nearly 78% of the homicide victims through the first six months of 2012".   Who is setting the value standard for Black Life in America?
