Old World Wine vs New World Wine In this episode Stephen discusses the differences between new world wines vs old world wines. The old world is Europe and the Middle east. The New World is elsewhere in the world e.g. the Americas, Australia, etc... Geography and differences in climate have a significant impact on the vineyards. Terroir places an emphasis on the land, vintner, earth and weather. The terroir of Europe differs vastly from the rest of the world. Why? Production regulations vary from nation to nation. Some places there are more, some less. Plus the temperatures are cooler in Europe. There is a lean quality to Old World wines vs fruit forward wines commonly found in the New World. Tasting contests between the New and Old World have been game changing. At the 1976 Paris Wine tasting, a California wine was chosen as the winner for the first time. The judges were French. Not surprisingly this was an earth shattering event for the wine industry. It was a wake up call to the world that the New World had arrived. Stephen admits his preference for New World younger wines and no longer ages wines. We all have our preferences. Production of Habanero Media
