EPISODE 214 A traumatic event is defined as “a distressing experience that causes significant emotional, psychological, or physical harm.” Examples of traumatic events include such things as a car accident, a death of a loved one, a breakup, a loss of a job, or an ongoing series of events, like a chronic health problem, continuous physical, emotional or sexual abuse.  These traumatic events typically trigger a range of intense feelings and emotions, including fear, helplessness, and a sense of being overwhelmed.  Post-traumatic growth (PTG) is defined as “positive psychological changes that emerge as a result of struggling with adversity and trauma.” PTG includes the idea that individuals can not only recover from a trauma but also experience significant personal development and personal transformation from it. PTG involves changes in understanding oneself, others, and the world, and can include increased personal strength, appreciation for life, and a significant shift in priorities.  How can you use PTG to overcome any traumas you have experienced in your own life? Traumas are life's hardest moments, but can be the very thing when viewed as just a temporary setback that propels you into a new stronger version of yourself and create a significant positive impact in your life.   Out There on the Edge of Everything®… Stephen Lesavich, PhD Copyright © 2025 by Stephen Lesavich, PhD.  All rights reserved. Ash's work serves those actively dying as well as those wishing to feel more connected to their own spirit in everyday life. Ash also supports you in connecting with loved ones with mediumship readings, guiding you in transforming your grief into even deeper wells of meaning and aliveness. This work of walking with grief and death found Ash after being diagnosed and hospitalized with a chronic illness called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. It was in their most challenging days and scariest moments where death was close---that Ash realized what it was they would offer to this world. "It was when I began to face my own death from my long term chronic illness that I was initiated in the astral plane by my grandmother Ida Canty, who was in spirit. She told me I would be supporting others in the physical world, lessening their fear of death and being a bridge of communication from the spirit realm to this physical realm." Certified as a death care provider through Alua Arthur's Going With Grace program, Ash's hope and prayer is to bring about healing from the other side and a profound peace regarding life after death. https://www.thesovereignspiritmedium.com/

In today's episode, we delve into the essence of successful small businesses. Our guest sheds light on a key factor that sets them apart: passion. Small business owners who start a company because they truly love what they do and consider it their life's purpose are the ones who make a remarkable impact. We discuss the importance of understanding that acquiring an 8(a) certification is just the beginning. Rather than expecting customers to come knocking, it's crucial for 8(a) companies to proactively engage with potential clients. Through meaningful conversations and a genuine understanding of customer needs, these businesses can demonstrate how they can provide valuable solutions. We debunk the misconception that government agencies are obligated to use 8(a) companies solely due to small disadvantaged goals. Instead, the focus should be on showcasing expertise, superior quality, competitive pricing, or unique capabilities that make them the preferred choice.

In part two of The Journey Beyond Death begins a powerful three-part arc on Mental Health Resiliency. In this deeply honest and emotionally raw episode, we explore how the grieving mind struggles to stay grounded after the loss of someone irreplaceable — and what survivors can do to regain emotional equilibrium. Certified grief educator and thanatologist Elreacy Dock joins us to offer expert insight on the early stages of grief and the emotional turbulence that can last for years. Elreacy shares why year two is often more emotionally taxing than year one, and how avoiding emotions too long can trigger delayed grief and breakdowns. We also discuss the dangers of using substances to suppress grief, and instead offer healthier rituals that restore stability and self-expression. Joining Elreacy are Carole Brody Fleet, Joyce Hocker, and Mark Henick — all of whom bring unique expertise and lived experience. From suicide prevention and emotional sobriety to reclaiming identity after widowhood, this episode offers guidance that is fiercely compassionate and unapologetically real. Mental health isn't about “getting over” death. It's about learning how to live beside the wound. --------------------------------------- Featuring in order of appearance: 01:00 – Certified Grief Educator Elreacy Dock 09:54 – Carole Brody Fleet 27:18 – Psychologist Dr. Joyce Hocker 38.52 - Mark Henick --------------------------------------- Elreacy Dock Elreacy Dock is a certified grief educator, thanatologist, behavioral health consultant, and death educator. In this powerful episode, host Alan Briggs sits down with Dave Garrison—former multinational CEO and author of The Buy-In Advantage—to unpack one of the workplace's biggest hidden threats: employee disengagement. Drawing from decades of experience and real-world data, Dave shares why disengagement is accelerating, what's really behind it, and how today's leaders can reverse the trend and re-engage their teams. About Dave Dave has over 25 years of experience as a CEO and independent board member of public and private companies both in the U.S. and internationally. Dave has spent his career rebuilding and exponentially growing organizations in a strategic and sustainable way. His success throughout his career organically led him to his encore work in supporting other CEOs in experiencing the same success he did. Dave holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and is Certified as a DISC and Emotional Quotient consultant for individuals and teams. Additionally, he is a certified facilitator in a system based on Verne Harnishes' Rockefeller Habits and the book Traction. He's an avid sailor, accomplished pilot and fierce yet mediocre golfer!     Key Takeaways: Disengagement is a systems issue, not a people issue. Gen Z and younger managers are demanding purpose—not just paychecks. Culture beats compensation: engaged employees rarely leave for small raises. Better alignment on purpose and priorities can slash turnover and boost performance. Meetings should be a catalyst for engagement—not a drain on energy. Notable Quotes: “Disengagement is the enthusiasm we leave in the parking lot Monday morning.” – Dave Garrison “All of us are smarter than any of us. Leaders must learn to draw out that collective genius.” – Dave Garrison “People don't burn out when they care deeply about what they're doing.” – Dave Garrison Learn More: Grab your copy of The Buy-In Advantage and explore tools, assessments, and resources mentioned in the episode at buyinbook.com.

Larry Burkett often said that capitalism must be tempered by Christian love, compassion, and stewardship.Proponents of capitalism and free markets don't often express that concern, just as believers in social welfare rarely count the cost. Jim Jones joins us today to talk about a new way of looking at those ideas.Jim Jones is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) and Certified Kingdom Advisor® (CKA®). He is also the author of Utopia Reimagined: An Allegory of Capital and Conscience.A Unique Approach to Biblical EconomicsUnlike typical finance books, Utopia Reimagined is a novel—a work of fiction designed to explore serious biblical and economic themes through story. Why fiction? Jesus often used storytelling to challenge people's assumptions and invite deeper reflection. From the Good Samaritan to the Prodigal Son, stories have the power to stick with us in ways data and arguments often can't. As G.K. Chesterton once quipped, “Novels are more true than science textbooks. Life is sometimes like a science textbook, but life is always a story.”The Journey of Alexander and PaulineThe novel follows two siblings—Alexander and Pauline—on a journey through contrasting societies, each representing different economic and political ideologies.Alexander, a gifted but oppressed peasant in 18th-century France, escapes a feudal system to explore new societal models. His journey takes him through a magical cave into Santosa—a society with socialist tendencies—and eventually to New York City, the heart of free-market capitalism. Along the way, Alexander wrestles with the tension between opportunity, freedom, and justice.Pauline's journey is more focused on the moral and cultural fabric of each society. Her lens offers readers a parallel exploration of what's right, just, and good—not only economically, but relationally and spiritually.Through these characters, readers are invited to explore how faith shapes our perspectives on power, wealth, justice, and human dignity. Some characters see everything through the lens of faith, while others struggle to integrate it or reject it altogether. The beauty of storytelling is that it doesn't just show you what people believe, but why they believe it. That builds compassion and opens the door to real understanding. What Does a Biblical Utopia Look Like?In the final chapters of the novel, Alexander and Pauline discover a society that reflects the fullness of God's Kingdom—a glimpse of the new heavens and the new earth. It's a world where work, community, economics, and leadership are all governed by Christ's nature: sacrificial love, justice, and peace. But how do we pursue this kind of utopia now?Real change begins not at a national or global level, but in our local Christian communities. Reflecting God's image means practicing agape love—self-sacrificing care for one another—in how we use our time, money, influence, and power. We do that in community, not alone.Bringing the Vision to LifeMore than just a novel, Utopia Reimagined is a tool for discipleship and transformation. It's a call to rethink how we live, give, work, and govern in light of God's design. Through this engaging allegory, Jim Jones invites believers to dream again—anchored in Scripture and empowered by the Spirit—to reflect the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. That's why he has developed a discussion guide for churches, small groups, and communities who want to go deeper. It's available at utopiareimagined.com, where readers can also purchase the book or join a virtual conversation with Jim himself. And for a limited time, the Kindle edition is available for just $1.99.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm a landlord with a duplex and want to sell it in a year. Fluorescent lights. Constant noise. Rigid schedules. For a lot of kids with special needs, school was less a place to learn and more a daily test of endurance. In this episode, Jenny Kendall—a national leader in special education—joins Kevin to talk about what happens when you take students out of a system that was never designed for them and build something better. Virtual learning isn't a compromise. For many, it's a relief. They get into how online education strips away environmental distractions, how real success hinges on teamwork between families and educators, and why AI and assistive tech might be the biggest breakthroughs in special education—if outdated policy doesn't slow it all down. How do you build an education system that actually fits the student—not the other way around? And what happens when technology moves faster than the rules meant to govern it? This might be what you want to know.   What You'll Learn 03:12 – Why the Classroom Was the Barrier 06:05 – Success = Commitment + Customization 08:30 – Online vs. In-Person: Who Does It Better? 11:35 – How a Virtual School Day Actually Looks 14:10 – Fixing the Special Ed Teacher Shortage (Hint: Go Remote) 16:20 – Autism, Anxiety & The Safety of Learning at Home 19:00 – AI Knows Your Kid Is Struggling Before You Do 21:15 – Outdated Laws vs. Next-Gen Learning Go Deeper with Jenny Kendall
