Michele Rosenblum aka Melody Bird is a transgender advocate, guitarist, instructor, mother, and an open book. She has performed with bands and solo locally throughout Ventura and Ojai: The Deer Lodge, Jester, Bombay's, The Good Bar, Zoey's, Green Art People, Stone Works, The Rhumbline, and a residency at Fresco's. Her most recent performance was for the Free 2 Be Me Foundation event in Ventura. Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy, M.D., is an Adolescent Medicine physician specializing in the care of gender non-conforming children and transgender youth. She presented on the Panel and discusses with us best practices in the medical world on Transgender healthcare practices. Dr. Kennedy-Olson is the Medical Director of The Center for Trans Youth Health and Development at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, the largest transgender youth clinic in the United States
DJ Della Vina hosts with a live panel with members of PFLAG and local Interfaith community coming together to discuss the second Interfaith Pride Celebration. “LOVE PERIOD.” which seeks to stand up for the dignity of all people, and on this day particularly for the LGBTQ community. Jennifer Leitham is a career Jazz musician, who has been a professional musician for over 40 years. She has played with Mel Torme, Peggy Lee, George Shearing, Woody Herman, Benny Carter, Doc Severinsen, and K.D Lang. Jennifer is a transgender woman and transitioned in 2001 from being known as John Leitham. She is most proud of her career as a recording artist, but is also an accomplished bassist, vocalist, composer, arranger, lyricist, and producer. Her basslines have graced many movies and TV shows and over 125 albums. Her repertoire also includes 10 albums of her own, most notably her huge hit The Real Me and her new release Mood Swings. In 2012 she was the subject of an award winning documentary by director Andrea Meyerson. Welcome to Your True Gender Radio. What is the value of gender diversity in organizations, politics and society? Educating about Gender Diversity increases the awareness and understanding of the wide range of gender variations in children, adolescents, and adults spanning family support, building community, increasing societal awareness, and improving the well-being for people of all gender identities and expressions. Your True Gender is an organization dedicated to educating those in our community in order to make the world a more welcoming place for Trans* individuals, as well as anyone who has ever felt out of place. Your True Gender, a nonprofit organization which strives to provide resources to Trans* individuals on California’s Central Coast, as well as education for people all over the country. Our first program is with Max Rorty whom is an authority on best practices for health providers working with transgender and gender non-normative people. Max facilitates trainings for large and small groups of professionals eager to provide transgender sensitive care. Trainings include best practices for intake forms, demographic collection and infrastructure for trans clients. She is the author of Transgender Patients and Their Families, and co-author of Trans-Safe Employee Space.
