How does God enact change when the mainstream seems lost?  In this episode, we explore Chapter 3 of Richard Rohr's The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage, "A Critical Mass: The Secret of the Remnant." After our conversation with Richard about God's work from the edges, we're joined by Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis, pastor, author, and host of our sister podcast Love Period. Rev. Jaqui helps us explore what it means to embody the remnant today through fierce love, fierce freedom, and the call to un-empire Christianity. Additionally, this conversation helps us to recognize God's work in unexpected places, the prophetic call to anti-scapegoating, finding the "7,000" others, and how the small-but-mighty actions of the remnant can become a catalyst for transformation. It's the first word that characterizes the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Scripture says that God so loved, that if we live in love we live in him, and that love will last forever. As a child of God and a follower of his Son, it's not “Love, but…” It's never “Love, maybe…” or “Love, under certain conditions.” It's “Love, Period.” For more information on GCR, visit our website at www.gcrchurch.com or download our app.

She founded Groundswell Movement, Faithful Internet, and the Yale Visual Law Project to equip new generations of advocates. Valarie has been a regular TV commentator on MSNBC and contributor to CNN, NPR, PBS, the Hill, Huffington Post, and the Washington Post. A daughter of Sikh farmers in California's heartland, Valarie earned degrees at Stanford University, Harvard Divinity School, and Yale Law School. God is love. Period! Yet how often do we say, “God is love, but…” Is God really angry, pissed, and keeping score? We see God's love most clearly in the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Christ. Why? Because Jesus is the face of God. God is just like Jesus. God has always been like Jesus. We see in Jesus what is true of God; self-giving, radically forgiving, co-suffering love. If we could all love like Jesus the way he loved, we could heal the world. This is what the world needs! To heal our world, we must understand God's love for all of His creation. God is drawn not to where we have life altogether or where we feel like life is good. God is drawn to our brokenness, our sin, the places I have screwed up, not to punish us, but to heal us, to make us whole again. He has called us to love others the way Jesus loves us. We cannot dehumanize someone and love them at the same time. If we can follow Jesus in this kind of love, we can heal this world! What if God really is self-giving, radically forgiving, co-suffering love. How would that change you? #Godislove

Though the word trinity is not found in the scriptures, today’s assigned reading includes the apostolic greeting that begins the liturgy: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Today, Pastor Jules chose to go with 1 Cor. 13 where the emphasis is on what we are called to be and do, namely, to love one another. In the gospel Jesus sends his disciples forth to baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. More than a doctrine, the Trinity expresses the heart of our faith: we have experienced the God of creation made known in Jesus Christ and with us always through the Holy Spirit. We celebrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity in word and sacrament, as we profess the creed, and as we are sent into the world to bear witness to our faith.Scripture Readings: Matthew 28:16-20; 1 Corinthians 13; Psalm 8

Love Period LLC also is working with the Be Prepared Period organization that assists with making period products available to people, and those in need. Check out our page (which will be updating throughout the upcoming weeks), tinyurl.com/loveperiodproject Perky's experience with the yoni pearls was quite interesting. It was a 3 day cleanse, where you insert them into the vagina near the cervix and let them work. Then on day 3 pull them out and watch what comes out. Tips: Eat healthy during this time and drink plenty of water. Have panty liners and a tampon(for insertion if it is not provided), and be prepared for some uncomfortability when it is removed. Perky purchased them to detox but also to help naturally cure a yeast infection issue and BV issue. So far the BV has left and the yeast infection is almost gone. Perky will do another detox, and then continue to do one a month in combination with yoni steams. To Keep Up with the Conversation Use #Perkyspod. Also like, comment, rate, and share the podcast. Note to men and women, just because women experience yeast infections does not mean that men do not attribute to them. Be safe and do your research. Which is setting the tone for the whole book. I look forward to reading the rest of the book, because this paragraph already has me hooked.“The illusion of strength has been and continues to be of major significance to me as a black woman. The one myth that I have had to endure my entire life is that of my supposed birthright to strength. Black women are supposed to be strong—caretakers, nurtur- ers, healers of other people—any of the twelve dozen variations of Mammy. Emotional hardship is supposed to be built into the structure of our lives. It went along with the territory of being both black and female in a society that completely undervalues the lives of black people and regards all women as second-class citizens. It seemed that suffering, for a black woman, was part of the package. Or so I thought.”Black Fact of the Day: Eugene and Ashley According to the US Black Chamber of Commerce in 2018 there was nearly 2.6 million African American entrepreneurs. NYgal.com “Unfortunately, the subject of mental health hardly come to the forefront of the fashion industry. Products of the fashion industry, including clothing, accessories, magazines, campaigns, and more, are likely to reflect and radiate positively appealing sentiments because they’re all commodities that need to be sold to the consumer. What this means is that anything that is produced within the fashion industry is unlikely to show the real issues of mental health, such as depression or anxiety, no matter how many people experience these issues in the industry. Designers are not going to make clothes that make their consumers feel cheerless and the business professionals will not push low-selling strategies. Products of fashion are sold when consumers can agree, find values and feel content with what they see, not when the depressed state of mind is explicitly illustrated.”How you feel about this statement. For US Segment (1min) Black Fact of the Day: Book Stylin’ African American Expressive Culture By Shane White & Graham White Shane White and Graham White consider the deeper significance of the ways in which African Americans have dressed, walked, danced, arranged their hair, and communicated in silent gestures. So reach out through social media or through email at perkyperspectivespod@gmail.comTodays Topic: Mental HealthPutting energy into your mental health is really necessary and key to success and happiness. There are reasons why oppression prevails, and majority of this is based off of mental health. Think about it. If the powers that be didnt psychologically torment, isolate, trigger, and provoke the mental of those oppressed then the people would rise and unite. But if you destroy the mental and the will from within then you demobiize. Within households we must protect the brain power and pride and knowledge of self for our youth. Not only the youth but our families. We for one need to keep our elders close. There is no reason why we should be utilizing senior homes, unless the family has zero capacity to care for their elders. And even then there should be involvement from the family. How do we make sure our legacies are build if we keep breaking cycles. What I mean by that is that we feel our past generations reverberate through us as we connect to our elders. We can push the journey onward. How many times do you find out that you had a near relative that may be only two generations behind. And yet yall have the same passion possibly building cars, or boxing, or cooking. We waste precious time creating legacies by not communicating. Communication is amazing for the mental. -expression -energy, currency, into the atmosphere -release But it is also good because you will be better support to the people you love. Be able to help them when they are in need and provide protection. We have to have more of a partnership. EachMindMatters.org Has a resource centerIn fact, the Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health states that African Americans are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the general population. Studies show that with support and treatment, between 70% and 90% of all people with mental health challenges have said that they have reduced symptoms and improved quality of life.Blacktherapistsrock.com Have a therapist directoryFor US Segment (1min) Black Fact of the Day: blackpast.org George Washington Murray Birthday Sept 22, 1853 Sumter County, South Carolina A landowner, congressman, inventor, lecturer and writer. Born to parents that were wrongly enslaved George taught himself how to read and write. At 18 he decided to attend a nearby school, but shortly after he was promoted to the teacher. In 1874 George attended University of South Carolina while the reconstruction era was accepting Melanated people. He was awarded a state scholarship but wasn’t able to finish after beginning his sophomore year due to segregation. He spent the first 13 years of his life as a slave, but after the Emancipation Proclamation enrolled at South Carolina State University and later continued his education at the State Normal Institute. George Murray’s patentIn the next 20 years he served as a school teacher, the Chairman of the Sumter County Republican Committee and as a customs inspector for the Port of Charleston, a position was appointed to by the President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. In 1892 George Murray was elected as United States Congressman, representing the state of South Carolina. In this position he frequently spoke from the floor of the House, describing the plight of Black citizens and imploring his fellow Congressmen to protect those citizens rights. One topic that Murray spoke openly about was the plight of the Black inventor. In that day of age, most whites were completely unaware of the success that many Blacks had enjoyed in inventing useful devices which were benefiting ordinary citizens. Murray recounted these achievements and read them into the Congressional Record. While serving in his second term, Murray secured patents for eight inventions, including cultivating and fertilizing equipment and a cotton chopper. After serving two terms in Congress, Murray became a real estate speculator, eventually moving to Chicago, Illinois in 1905. Alberta is the second-largest producer of hemp but much of it goes unused, according to Nicole Sanchez, a fourth-year-student studying business, economics and law, and project manager of Hempact. “Hemp is normally used for its seed. The hemp stock is considered as waste,” she said. Hempact is taking that excess hemp material and creating a product that will be single-use and disposable; the menstrual pad would have hemp fiber in the middle sandwiched by a bioplastic that the students are developing. “One woman goes through menstruation for an average of 38 years,” Sanchez said. “That’s about 300 pounds of waste per one person. That could take about 800 to 1,000 years to biodegrade.” Sanchez said current menstrual products are 10 per cent cotton and 90 per cent plastic, which is why it takes so long for them to biodegrade. “If we release this product, it would take six months to biodegrade. That’s a big difference,” she said. The idea originated from a pitch competition in Drayton Valley that focused on what to do with the province’s agricultural waste. It has since become a 16-student operation at the university. “Women are able to use a product that they know is environmentally-friendly without needing to change up their routine of how they go about their menstrual hygiene habits,” said Anka Chan, Hempact’s research and development officer. Chan is also a fourth-year-student at the University of Alberta studying neuroscience. “We’re really trying to develop a product that is going to be as good or better than those in the market that women are using now.” Chan said there have been some challenges with the hemp, including working on techniques to soften the fibers for comfort, but the students are making strides towards a final prototype. The group hopes to help break down the stigma behind menstruation, but the environment and what is in store for future generations is front of mind for both women. “Essentially every woman menstruates you know. It’s not something we can avoid. If we have a product that is good for the environment, then why not?” Sanchez said. She said the group will eventually look at developing tampons and diapers from hemp waste. The students are looking to have a working prototype by the end of August, fine-tune it until the end of December and trial the product with university students in early 2020.Looking for a Black Owned Period Product to partner with for Love Period, if you are one or know of one please send me the details**213-270-1969= Golden Keys Debt Repayment The Debt Snowball Step 1: List your debts from smallest to largest regardless of interest rate. Her goal is to provide information to underrepresented demographics to get them involved in the digital currency arena. Shanah spent 10 years as a Restaurant manager, and got started investing in 2017. Motivated by acquiring enormous gains from her initial investment she began to educate herself even further and advising her circle of friends.
