Bits of Gold w/ Wes Grant. You always have the time. We all have the same 24-hours in each and every day. It’s if you are willing to commit the time, you will see results. It’s the lack of commitment which is why most people fail. To achieve any goal, you must commit. Once you commit, you will find the time. As Wes said, you have to commit to a life-style, not a season. In fitness, a lot of people commit to a season. They commit to gettin fit for the Summer or a wedding, etc... But you will be more successful long-term if you commit to a lifestyle and not a season. Take care of your health. Wes was working on Wall St, and felt he was in shape. He was working all day and in the rat race. He would go to the gym, run on the treadmill, lift some weights. But was never really making progress in-terms of his health. One day, he bent down to tie his shoelace and was out of breath when he stood up. Diabetes was a part of his family history and he knew it was time to prioritize his health first.Find your Passion and relentlessly pursue it: He was living in the rat race working on Wall ST. It was more of a job than his passion. He worked on Wall St for 10-years and burnout was regular. What separates a job and a career is doing something that you are passionate about. He found fitness and he became so driven to grow and dive deep. Your biggest failures can catapult you to your biggest success. You have these experiences and you have to learn from them. Pursue your passion. If you are living and building your passion you’d be willing to do it for free, and get up in the morning and put the work in. It’s something you can keep putting your drive into. Your experiences should make you better. Pursue what will drive you to be a better human not for the sake of money, but to be the best version of yourself and to help other’s be their best selves. Education is the biggest thing to personal growth. Wes talks about it focused very much as it relates to being a great trainer, but I personally applied this to my own life. It’s so important to never stop learning, studying, and growing. To do that, you have to never stop learning whether that’s getting a mentor, coach, reading, going to events, seminars, etc… See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Welcome back to our self-proclaimed, Mental Health Megacast, a semi-regular round table discussion with 3 mental health advocates and survivors who are trying to find our way through recovery. There is some debate as to which episode we are actually on with this particular series, and we've covered that fiasco in previous episodes, so whether or not it's actually episode 82, or episode 9 in the series...well who knows! Anyways, just in case you aren’t familiar with the Megacasts, you can check out past episodes here, and also on cohorts platforms as well…. To that end, the Megacast is creation of the collaborative brain powers (more or less) of Wes from AudioRising.com and Mike from MikesOpenJournal.com, and myself. I encourage you to check out and follow them online and through your favorite podcasting platform. Each of these has a tremendous message to share and an inspiring and unique way in how they go about it. In this episode, we do a bit of catching up before diving into some more specific topics. As you’ll see, we have a lot of fun and regardless of the between shows, we’re able to pick up where we left off. That’s the beauty of this collaboration, not only is it a mutual respect and admiration for each others work asadvocates, but also the struggle and subsequent resiliency that comes with battling our own pasts. The topic of this episode is one that we've been wanting to cover for quite awhile now, and as luck would have it, and a bit of good timing, we were able to pull together a time to meet to dive into our views on faith and religion and how believing in God, or a higher power, can influence your mental health and specifically your area of struggle; be it addiction recovery, depression, self-harm, trauma survivor, etc. We each have somewhat differing views, but the great thing is, we chat and debate a bit in way that not only ends up being informative and a humorous, but also so that none of us ever feels like our view is less than the others. As Wes points out, we can chat and nobody feels like they have to win! To that end, we hope you enjoy this latest episode as we cover this difficult and controversial topic, and if you have suggestions for future shows, please contact us and let us know...but whatever you do, please don't mention the time! ;) Be sure and follow Wes on Twitter @WesA1966 and Mike @Mike_Douglas_ & Open_Journal_ …oh and don’t forget to follow and subscribe to all of our shows on your favorite podcasting app! -Matt Pappas, CLC, CPNLP All conversation and information exchanged during participation the Beyond Your Past Podcast, on BeyondYourPast.com, and BeyondYourPastRadio.com is intended for educational and informational purposes only. In today's pod we talk about how Wes has developed his Madrid (and now UK-based) food blog, Much Bites, over the past 4 years. We talk about creating engaging content, listening to your audience (who will be small to start with!) going from working solo to creating a team and why Wes does all of this! As Wes says, if you have a project you believe in and want to create- don't give up, keep going and look for supportive people to come along with you, as this makes all the difference. I hope you enjoy the pod and thanks for listening - if you'd like to subscribe on itunes or Spotify and even leave a review that would be lovely! As WES seeks to become a more intentionally anti-racist, multicultural community, what tools do we need to learn? How does it feel to be part of the majority culture at WES, and how does it feel to be part of the minority cultures also represented? Music from the WES Chorus.
Wes Heney was born female. That is, he had the anatomic composition or body of a person most people would see as female. As Wes reached puberty, he grew breasts that he detested. He dressed like a guy and wanted to be treated as such. He sensed a profound disconnect between his body (anatomic sex) and who he felt he was - his gender identity. In episode 4, Wes tells the unforgettable full story. I ask some basic questions about: What's it like taking testosterone? What kind of stigma did you encounter? What was your transition process?
