In this week's episode, we chat with Wesley about the enforcement of veils and lines, the virtues of stabbing birds, and the use of TTRPGs in therapy. (Wesley's an actual literal therapist!) This ended up being a thoughtful conversation about people's emotional needs when they're playing TTRPGs, even outside the therapy context. We make a few references to our episode with Kyros way back in Season 1. (Spoilers for Curse of Strahd in both this episode with Wesley and that episode with Kyros, incidentally.) If you want to hear more about paid GMing in non-therapy contexts, go listen to our interviews with RP and Dante. As promised to Wesley, we're going to plug touching grass and donating to your local LGBT centre. In the PNW, we'd suggest Qmunity in Vancouver or Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center (formerly Gay City). Thanks to Briar for providing this week's intro! This week I have a roundtable discussion with players from my D&D campaign, Blood of the Avatars, that recently ended. Brett, Craig, and Sam join me to discuss our experiences with D&D at high level, both as players and GM. If there's a sweet spot for D&D level-wise, what is it? We also talk a bit about what we'd really like to see from game companies INSTEAD of big hardback adventures/campaigns that go on for 10+ levels. Finally, we talk about the end of the campaign and the final battle. The players give their perceptions on how it all turned out. There are definitely things I could've done better, and we discuss that, so as I always say at the top of the show, you can learn from my mistakes, or at least things I could've done differently and/or better.Check out my sci-fi novel, Critical Balance.Have you read Critical Balance? "We're not addressing human behavior—we're just trying to show that we did something."In this impactful episode of The Fleet Success Show, host Steve Saltzgiver sits down with 2024 Fleet Hall of Fame inductee Matthew Betz. With more than five decades in the fleet world, Betz has seen it all—from selling fleet solutions at Wheels Inc. to building out Detroit's EV infrastructure at DTE Energy. But perhaps most compelling is his recent mission: transforming fleet safety by understanding human behavior. The conversation dives deep into Betz's career evolution, including his leadership roles at NAFA and AFLA, the surprising challenges in launching an electric fleet at DTE, and why traditional driver training is failing. Together with behavioral psychologists (including his daughter!), Betz now focuses on empowering supervisors to become safety coaches—an idea that could redefine fleet risk management.Fleet managers will walk away with real-world insights into EV adoption, stakeholder engagement, and a new lens on fleet safety that goes far beyond checklists and telematics dashboards. Key Takeaways:Behavior Drives Safety: Most safety training fails because it ignores root causes. Changing driver behavior starts with understanding why people drive the way they do. Train the Coach, Not the Driver: Betz advocates for supervisor-led coaching rather than automated training modules. EV Adoption Is Hard—but Worth It: Infrastructure, range anxiety, and cultural resistance are all major hurdles, but thoughtful planning and change management can overcome them. Data Overload is Real: Fleet managers are overwhelmed with telematics. Success lies in surfacing actionable insights—not just data. Fleet Needs a Seat at the Table: Top-performing fleets are integrated with organizational leadership and strategy. Speaker Bios:Matthew BetzMatthew Betz is a fleet industry legend, boasting a 50+ year career that spans fleet leasing, consulting, OEM partnerships, and utility fleet management. A former VP at Wheels Inc., Betz later spearheaded the electric fleet initiative at DTE Energy. He's a past president of AFLA, a longtime NAFA board member, and was inducted into the Fleet Hall of Fame in 2024. Today, he leads Orc Creek Fleet Consulting and works closely with behavioral science firm ABA Technologies to revolutionize fleet safety.Steve SaltzgiverSteve Saltzgiver is a veteran fleet executive, consultant, and host of The Fleet Success Show. With experience leading massive government and private fleets, Steve now brings his expertise to the mic, guiding fleet professionals toward operational excellence and sustainable success.

Matías and I talk to fans in person at ExcaliburCon in Duluth! This episode was recorded at our 11am panel on August 17th. We talk briefly about our backgrounds before we start posing the questions a person should ask when they're getting ready to move a tabletop game online! It was an absolute blast, and we're so thankful for the ExcaliburCon organizers for offering us a space to speak! --- LIVE SHOW DETAILS, at a NEW VENUE: Our next live show will be on Saturday, September 6th, 7:00pm, and it will be located at Studio Four, part of the St. Louis County Depot. The entrance is easy to find at the corner of 5th Avenue West and Michigan Street, and it's nestled between two public parking lots for easy access. The doors open at 6:30pm, the show starts at 7:00, and it is once again completely free! I know change is scary, but there will be concessions on-site, and you'll get to walk past a little culture on the way in from our hosts at the Minnesota Ballet, and our neighbors at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum! --- "Twin Portals" is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Fan Content Policy. This week I have a roundtable discussion with players from my D&D campaign, Blood of the Avatars, that recently ended. Brett, Craig, and Sam join me to discuss our experiences with D&D at high level, both as players and GM. We also talk about what it was like to bring a new player into a campaign toward the end, when the PCs are all high level. Finally, I talk a bit about my thoughts and strategies going into the final leg of the campaign, and how I prepared and planned for it.
