Celeste Tapia is our special guest this week on Mission CTRL in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.  Tapia immigrated from Argentina to South Florida and eventually to Connecticut the same year “Nemo” dumped over 2.5 feet of snow across the southern half of New England.  Celeste is the Business Relationship Coordinator for the CEDF (Community Economic Development Fund) and owner of Air Bounce Amusements.  Celeste's path into entrepreneurship and leadership wasn't linear, but she always had a passion for service, which was inspired by her mother who is a retired Social Worker.   In high school, Tapia was an ambitious and active student who studied English, French, dance, music and served as a Scout.  Upon arriving in South Florida, Celeste carved out a niche for herself as a retail manager leading teams despite not being fluent in English.  Tune in to hear how Tapia's entrepreneurial ambition and humility helped her navigate from a page in Wallingford Library to a Librarian, to being the owner of two businesses and to also helping entrepreneurs find funding and resources in her role as the Business Development Coordinator at the CEDF.  Before launching into the heart of the episode Ramon and the flight crew, lament yet another loss of the GMen but were able to take solace in the Cowboys getting smacked by the 49ers.  . . . Deciding to become a business-owner and entrepreneur is a big, and often intimidating step, especially when it comes to securing funding for your idea. While there are always traditional bank loans, Connecticut offers a number of other financing options for new businesses, including the Community Economic Development Fund.  In this special podcast, we sit down with members of the CEDF and Murtha Cullina employment consul Mike Harrington to discuss the topic of how to deal with troublesome employees. The first half of the cast is an interview with Mike, followed by a question-and-answer session where business owners ask Mike for answers regarding their own employment issues.  This cast is a must-listen for any Connecticut entrepreneurs looking to hire their first employees.
